Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.

Re: Hearthstone:

Don't forget about arena mode.  It puts everybody on an even playing field (+- luck factor).  Yes, it costs gold to enter, but it's the best way to spend your gold, anyways.  And no one else has an advantage over you, regardless of how long they've been playing or how much they've paid.

With that being said, don't be surprised if you lose there, too.  There's a pretty significant amount of skill involved in paying the game itself, and it takes a lot of experience to know which cards to draft before that.

Learning how to pick your cards for Arena is a skill all in itself.  Personally, I suck at Drafting.  I always have.  You give me cards to work with though and I can create AWESOME structured decks that hit from multiple ways.  Drafting, cards I normally use are far less valuable.  Knew a guy named Geoff and he was the MASTER of Draft decks.  Even with sheot cards he'd win because of the way he chose'm.  Tried to explain it to me once and it didn't make sense (to me).

If any of you new iPad Hearthstoners are interested in some friendlys against other CAGs, I started a Hearthstone thread: www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/328197-hearthstone-cag-style

Like ltrain, I've been playing since Open Beta and am not spending any money (I paid $1.99 for one arena key simply to get a special card during the beta).  From my perspective, the game is extremely deep and is not pay to win.  Plenty of streamers have gotten to legendary with F2P decks to prove it's possible.

I'll try to drop some nuggets of what I've learned to hopefully lessen your learning curves.  Good luck with the addiction!

Make sure you get challenges that aren't based on win requirements, then you'll be able to progress even if you're losing.
One quick thing if you are trying to avoid spending real cash. You are allowed to "recycle" one of your daily quests every day. There is a red X in the upper right corner of each quest. You can get 40, 60, or 100 gold per quest, and since you only get one quest per day, it's best to shoot for the 100s. I recycle every 40 I get and sometimes recycle 60s if I don't feel like playing with those decks.

I dropped about $50 on Hearthstone in Beta.  I ended up with around 5-6 legendaries.  I had a screenshot I saved somewhere where I picked up 2 legendaries, a purple, and a blue in one pack.  Since then I've been playing for free and haven't regretted it either (even though I want some of the Dragon cards, they're not worth paying for NOR are they worth crafting (they're too damned expensive))

Ascendancy is free, go go go

http://appshopper.com/games/ascendancy

My favorite 4x game when I was younger. No clue why its free though

Also got to try to out the refund mechanism for apps. I bought agricola when it price blipped down to 3.99$ for 2 days, before it .99$. Pretty simple process, guess I have to wait a day for the refund to show up and then I can go rebuy it since its still in my account for now

Big Fish is having a sale on their entire adventure game/hidden object game line. Everything seems to be at least 33% off (though they claim some are fifty, I haven't found any yet). If you are as oddly addicted to these games as I am, it's not a bad deal!

It ends today though.

OK looking to finally upgrade from my G1 ipad and saw this on ebay:

128gb 4th gen, unlocked models for 599

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-128GB-iPad-4th-Gen-w-Retina-Wi-Fi-4G-AT-T-Black-or-White-SmartCover/351003525952?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item51b970c340

I know new models come out later this year, but this still seems really good.

So... what am I missing.

Appreciate any help & cool with me if you wanna answer thru PM so we don't clutter the thread

Oh and so it's not a total hijack, there are also $100 itune cards for 85

Foodfight is free today, down from their .99$ sale

http://appshopper.com/games/food-fight-ios

Been playing it the past few days, its been fun so far but not sure if Ill keep playing it in the long run.  Still its free, may as well give it a shot.

These quick price changes from playdeck are starting to get old, tired of having to ask for refunds and re-purchase

Not necessarily a deal in terms of a price drop, but Wayward Souls, the new game from Rocketcat Games (Hook games, Mage Gauntlet, Punch Quest) came out yesterday. They released it at $4.99, with plans to increase price by a dollar with each major content update. They're a quality developer who really try hard not to screw over early adopters.

http://appshopper.com/games/wayward-souls

Earlier this month was International Table Top Day where Wil Wheaton and friends gathered in L.A. to play a bunch of games with each other. Some of the games were played on a live stream for the whole world to see. One of the games played was Tanto Cuore, a deck building game most similar to Dominion, that once I realized Playdek made an iOS app version I instantly jumped on it. I was slightly worried that by jumping on it so close to Easter I might miss out on a potential Easter sale. Seems that happened but it didn't bother me so much. Now, unfortunately, maybe I can be bothered.

Tanto Cuore has gone free for the first time ever, http://appshopper.com/games/tanto-cuore

Feelings aside though this is a very well done adaptation and if you like Dominion then I think you'll like this. I mean I'd certainly recommend it!

Also on sale are Sonic The Hedgehog 1 (http://appshopper.com/games/sonic-the-hedgehog) and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (http://appshopper.com/games/sonic-the-hedgehog-2) for $.99.

It's looking like the playdek sale has all of the games with their prices marked down, with each of them taking a turn at being free for one day. I'm hoping the Penny-Arcade one goes free soon.

App zap just picked it up as free but it was a false call for .99 instead.

OK it's fun! Good controls (better than mage gauntlet) lots of variety etc. I still haven't found any hats though. :whistle2:(

I'm holding out hope that Playdek's D&D game is going to be one of the free ones. Even though I think the chances of that are pretty slim.
THIS makes two of us, but honestly, I'd even accept it if it went on sale for $.99 or possibly even a $1.99.

I watched Wil Wheaton and friends play this game on his Table Top web series and it did look fun and so I wouldn't mind getting my hands on the iOS app to see if it is as fun as he made it look.

First episode of Republique (you know, that game that raised half a million dollars on kickstarter and has David Hayter and Jennifer Hale) is down to $2.99, from $4.99

I own it on Xbox, Steam, and now iOS. Would still buy a refreshed "Anniversary" version if it ever came out.
Now that it's considered "Non-Canon" my guess is we'll never see updates of any of the old Star Wars games... though Disney may see the success that KotoR brought and make a similar game series set in that time period with similar gamestyle/play.

Once again? Was it offered as a promo somewhere? Your link doesn't show it as ever being free before.

That being said, I picked it up at 99 cents a while back, and it's a fun rogue crawler. I just wish they would include all the characters.
Strange. Yesterday it showed that it was free at the initial release.
