Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
~ (symbol beside the "1" on standard US keyboards) are iPhone 6/6+ optimized. Note that apps that are iPhone 6/6+ optimized are by default iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.

Is there a way to buy these games on the website or iTunes? I don't have an iPad at the moment but plan to get one in the future.
Apple decided with release of iOS 11 that we no longer needed this ability >_>

Now you can only purchase, download, and update apps through iOS devices. You may still be able to purchase on computer through older version (12.6.x) of iTunes.

Did Capcom skip their usual Easter sale this year? I kept checking back for various Ace Attorney titles all day, and none of the in-app purchases were discounted.

Anybody happen to know of any emulators that work on a non-jailbroken iPad/iPhone?

I used to use a mame emulator called Blood Bros and an NES emulator called Lawnmower, but like an idiot, I updated my OS version and now neither one works.

Any musicians (instrumentalist/composers)....what DAW or music production program do you use to record?

I use the apogee jam MetaRecorder for instruments and garage band for else

Anyone use other stuff?

interesting news that Steam is bringing their Link app to iOS and Android in a few weeks. Has the app on my Samsung TV and it worked pretty well for streaming games. But then got my TCL which doesn’t have it.

I have an Apple TV which I have a controller for but it will also work on phones and tablets with controller support.

https://9to5mac.com/...-soon-ios-tvos/

So does anyone know whether in-app purchases, when viewed in the app store instead of through the app itself, reflect temporary discounts?

*thread necro*

Rogue Legacy just released on iOS and is on sale for $0.99 until August 11.

Severed also on sale for $0.99.

I saw that Rogue Legacy was out and only $.99 and snagged it immediately. Was my first purchase all year. Might snag Severed too. $1 is my buy price. Really wish Appshopper still worked..

Dollar General is selling iTunes gift cards for 10% off in store until they close tonight (8/10/19).

The qualifying denominations were $25, $50, and the three packs of cards that were $30 went I was in the store yesterday.  The $15 ones won't ring up for the discount.

Hope this helps someone.

It’s not on sale yet, but it might be worth mentioning that Journey’s been ported to iOS.
Such a gorgeous game. It'll look pretty on a phone, but an iPad will look even more amazing. Hopefully there's unlockable wallpapers.

Then again, any screen shot from this game would make for a splendid backdrop.

NecroDancer Amplified is also on sale at $1.99. Includes the base game plus all pc dlc.

I learned that the opposite way a few months back... had physical apple store gift cards and wanted to buy stuff on the App Store. The apple store let me purchase iTunes gift cards with the store gift cards.

The Reigns franchise is on sale, 99¢ for the original and Her Majesty, and $1.99 for the Game of Thrones version.

Iesabel is also 99¢.

You still can, you just need to track down an older PC version of iTunes and keep declining the updates. I am currently using version 12.6.2.20 the last to support the app store I believe. I found it on Apple's web site in fact. This was a while ago mind you. Hopefully older versions are still available for download.

^ Good call. I'm still using that same old version of iTunes as well. Going to keep it until I am forced to upgrade above iOS 10 (still holding onto beautiful 32-bit apps).

Speaking of 32 vs 64 bit apps, Cave is updating four of its shmups for 64 bit compatibility. The updates are free if you already own the games, and they’ll supposedly be at discounted prices for a while after the update comes through. I don’t see a date for the updates, but the word is Soon™.

Titles:
Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi Blissful Death
DoDonPachi Maximum
DoDonPachi Resurrection HD

Great to hear Cave come back. I hope they update others like Bug Princess.

Neon Chrome is on sale for 99 cents.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/neon-chrome/id981035758

And I had a question - does anyone here own an Apple TV device and can speak about his or her experience with the Apple TV and Apple Arcade?  I'm considering buying a used one, but it appears that not all iOS games are Apple TV compatible.  And a lot of the best games (i.e. Neon Chrome, Rogue Legacy, Stardew Valley, etc.) are iPad only.  Thank you in advance for any responses.

I have an Apple TV 4K and Apple Arcade that I use an Xbox one controller with. The controller works fine and the games run just as well. But you’re right. Not all of the games are supported on the Apple TV. As far as I know all of the Apple Arcade games will work on Apple TV.

For games that don’t support Apple TV function you can sync a controller to your phone and mirror it to the Apple TV. I will warn you it doesn’t always work smoothly and the game probably won’t display in full screen. But it’s worth a shot if you have a game you really like.

Thank you for responding. I already own a Shield TV, and it appears that most of the games on Apple TV other than the Apple Arcade selections are already available on Shield TV (or at least the biggies such as Asphalt, Crossy Road, and the classic Sonic games). Still debating whether to buy a Switch this weekend instead, and that's probably the route that I'm going to go although I've been trying to talk myself out of it. So I'll pass on the Apple TV for now.

Although Dead Cells isn't on sale anymore, I still find it a tremendous steal at $7.99 with MFi support over the PS4 version at $25.

It's remarkable to lay in bed with my 12" iPad on my lap playing with a Dualshock and new Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro bluetooth earbuds.

I hope MFi comes to a lot more games. I especially love Dead Cell's immediate pick-up-from-where-you-left-off between iPad and iPhone, even if you quit the app.
