Apple news conference today...

As for the iPhone...don't get me started. I love my iPhone...but pissed at the drop. I'll give Apple a call tomorrow as many people are being offered Money back, gift cards, etc.
Same here I just got this in my in box

http://www.veronicabelmont.com/2007/09/want-your-200-back/

However I bought mine at an AT&T store I hope if anything I can get a credit on my bill. I know I shouldn't bitch about it but 1/3 of the price in less then 3 months come on.
Wow, looks like I am getting myself a new phone tomorrow. Now to figure out how I am going to unlock it. Shouldn't be to hard but I have never done it.
HAHAHA

I want to go to the moon, but I never biult a rocket, shouldn't be too hard.

meh iphone at 400 looks tempting but im with TMo  so im going with a BB Curve on the 24th......Video Nano seems a good upgrade....but what the hell do i do with my 1st Gen nano?

It's pretty comical how apple is able to brain wash everyone simply when calling stuff an ipod... at this point the ipod touch is basically a pda...

I have an iCar I'm willing to sell, it's last gen, but it has that "i" in it. :)

you could get a brain from Microsoft...but common sense will cost you 5000 MS points...

I'm sorta mad..but not really. I had a 2nd Gen iPod nano last year..and it eventually died :(

So for Christmas last year I wanted to try something different: I wanted AND got a Zune. Oh I do love the Zune, it IS neat!

THEN like 2 months later I realized..if I ever want to work out..or just even go for a walk w/ it it..the Zune is just too big for that! So I went out and bought myself one of the new ipod shuffles (in orange!)

Now the NEW iPod nano..it like.. combines my Zune AND My Shuffle! So I wonder if I should sell them...because I really do like that new nano...

Does anyone really love their new colors on the shuffle? EVen the blue and the green they have on the new nanos?! Beautiful!

Thank God my birthday is in exactly 2 weeks :)

16GB tops on the iPod Touch is lame. I was all set to get one but my old trash-picked 20GB is too small for all the MP3s I have. I need at least 30GB. The new standard iPods looks like Fisher Price toys now. Why can't they leave good enough alone?

Why does no one understand that the reason the touch has a max of 16gb is because high capacity flash hard drives are new tech and cost a lot? As well as that's probably the highest capacity atm. I'm so sure if it were a higher capacity you guys wouldn't be bitching about the high cost.

In 6 months they will lower the price and cme out with a new model with more space anyways.

yeah, a 30gb flash touch would be $600 right now...and I would bitch. But I would drop $300 for a 30gb model (and hopefully that'll happen next year some time)

Oh I think we all understand. We're just voicing that with 30GB or more of storage no matter what the price the product would be much more attractive. You could make it 1 cent and people would still say hell if its 1 cent why can't they give it out free?

Plus its a new product so Apple is going to milk all the early adopter cash they can. It will come down in price and come with more storage in a few months.

I was shocked by the 160gb Classic. I did not see that coming. I would have more expected a Touch with large hard drive than another Classic with such a big HD. In fact, it would make more sense on the touch, obviously, and the only reasoning I can see is that Apple is pushing the thinner is better mantra to the furthest extent, and trying to phase out all hard drives. Still, that's going to be extremely hard to do with flash still so expensive. I can't figure out there reasoning entirely on this except they think flash based players are better (they are) and that they cut down on the number of quality control issues (no moving parts). Whatever the case, it wouldn't surprise me in the next year or two to see them do away with hard drives entirely.

While I understand the coolness of being able to carry your entire music library around with you I personally don't see the point. I mean, how much music can any one person listen to at any given time? You can't really tell me that out of the thousands of songs you may have, that you listen to and love every single one so you have to have it with you at all times.

I'm just saying I could probably just carry around a thousand or two songs and probably be pretty happy with those selections.

Now if we are talking videos thats a whole other thing.

I have 245GBs of music.

Out of that, I'm sure I can knock it down to 160GBs of music I would love to have with me at all times without having to go "I feel like rap/techno/OST today, time to start deleting stuff to make room"

I might only have 72gbs of music, but I feel the same way as Sporadic. It's just the convenience as well as the fact that you can put on whatever you want whenever you want.

Atleast with 160 gigs, I can finally fit all of my essential music on that (I've got about 110 gigs that are important to me). And with the extra space, I can fit some of my other 220 some gigs (which really doesn't include my vinyl collection and most of my cd/tape collection).

Its nice to have everything at your fingertips, no need to worry about searching for something on it only to realize that it couldn't fit on it. And with the bigger HD, you can have better quality rips on it.

Agreed, FB. I have a 60gb now and always get annoyed when I'm at work and can't hear something I want.

Call me spoiled, but I paid for the motherfucking thing.
Holy Crap!
It isn't as crazy as you think.

It's only 244 artists and most of the MP3s are 320kbps so they take up alot of room.

Then again I do have 17+GBs of Nine Inch Nails and 11.5GBs of Jimi Hendrix alone.

It's not "coolness," it's convenience. I used to carry CD wallets and books everywhere and that shit sucked. It also isn't about how much you can listen to at one time. It's about being able to listen to what you want, when you want.

I usually keep my Ipod on random and listen to whatever pops up.

Which reminds me-- they better implement a way to make playlists on the go, real ones, not the crappy temp one. they also need to make it so you can go straight to an artist's albums if they come up on random play. I hate not being able to do these things on the current ipod. Also, menus should pop up instantly with no lag at all ever.

Makes sense

My question: once it's transferred to an Ipod and coming through headphones, can you really tell a diff from 128kbps?

with a good pair of headphones, yes

To all iPhone customers:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.
First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.
Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.
Third, even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these.
Therefore, we have decided to offer every iPhone customer who purchased an iPhone from either Apple or AT&T, and who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration, a $100 store credit towards the purchase of any product at an Apple Retail Store or the Apple Online Store. Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week. Stay tuned.
We want to do the right thing for our valued iPhone customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to live up to your high expectations of Apple.
Steve Jobs
Apple CEO
that would ease my pain a little bit.

posted in other thread too.
(do we really need two apple news threads?)

Wow, indeed. That is above and beyond the call of duty. I know the price drop angers some, but the truth is that it happens in electronics a lot (if not exactly two months later). This is quite the gesture of good will on Apple's part.

I read this comment on engadget

"I think it was genius. I'm no apple fan boy, but I know a good business man when I see one, he planned it all out from the start.

He charges about 300 more then it cost him to make.

Then he drops the 200 extra off to make it look cheap to all the non-early adopters, even though it is still over priced.

Now he gives back 100 to those who already purchased it, but in store credit, the day after he just released a whole new line of products that all cost over $100. And theres no point in them buying a shuffle, nano, or a touch, they have an friggen iphone, they're going to spend it on either profitable overpriced accessories, or on one of those new macs!

It's possibly the greatest act of business in the history of the world. Rock on Steve!"

Exactly, if you are an early adaptor, you will ALWAYS pay more than people down the line. I bought a dvd player for 350 a few months after it arrived. A year later they were 200, 100 the next... it always happens its the price one pays to get the newest gadget before anyone else. I want an iphone, and I know it will be harder to resist now with my wife picking one up last night, but I need more than 8gb

Well I went to pick up a 4gb Iphone today at the Apple store since my brother was buying a new macbook but sadly they sold out of them earlier in the day. But I am heading back their tonight to buy a 4gb used iphone off someone for $260 and its unlocked already.

Hmm... you have enough time to go though ALL 250+ gb of music in a day?

As for me yeah... I haven't even gotten half way on my 2gb nano.

Apple is smart.

$200 or $100 in cash is better than store credit.

You can't buy shit for $100 in store credit in Appleland, you'll have to get something expensive and Apple is just going to get paid anyway.

Smart.

Who said I would go through it all in a day? Shit that much music would take you 2 weeks straight to get through.

I do believe I said it would be nice to have just about everything on hand that way I don't go "oh man I don't have K-Os on here *fast forward 8 hours later* fuck I don't have room for K-Os I'll have to delete something" rinse wash repeat with whatever I feel like listening too at the moment.

I'm glad you are happy with your 2gb nano but not everybody has no music/encodes at shitty bitrates. 2GB wouldn't even hold all of my studio/EP Nine Inch Nails.
My question: once it's transferred to an Ipod and coming through headphones, can you really tell a diff from 128kbps?
Most definitely. 128 to 192 is night and day.
with a good pair of headphones, yes
Maybe it's just all the loud rave music I've listened to (quite possible  ) but I have always been one of the people who doesn't care about sound quality once it hits 128kbps.

Have you ever heard 24kbps - now that is crap!

Im not sure if i want to get a iPhone or get a big new Ipod classic. Im leaning towards the iPod classic.
