Apple WWDC 2008 - 3G iPhones - 8GB = $199 16GB = $299 (AKA iPhone Thread)
Aside from the lacking GPS, and one little bug with the business email syncing, it's a nice upgrade.

I wanted GPS the most though, so I can wait. The app store should make me happy for a while.
Same here. Well, some more space on the thing would be nice (at least 32gb).
iTunes 7.7 (and I'm assuming 2.0) are up now. :)
7.7 has been out the whole day. 2.0 isn't out yet.

A few hours ago, I tried checking for 7.7 through iTunes, and it said 7.6 was the current version. It didn't let me download 7.7 until right before I made that post, but yeah, now that it's installed, I see that 2.0 isn't out yet. :(

It's live on iTunes now.

It updated, but now I get a "We could not complete your iTunes Store request" message. That's what I get for being impatient, I suppose. Back to the BB Curve until I figure out how to fix this thing.

Apparently everyone on Engadget seems to be having the same problem.

So I might be getting an iPhone later today, and I have some music on my iPod that isn't on my iTunes anymore that I want on my iPhone. Anyone know of a free program for windows to copy music off of my iPod?

Mac or PC?

If it is a PC/widows you can do it without any software:

1. Connect the iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it.
2. In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
3. In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders."
4. Navigate to the Music folder. On my 2nd gen 'pod, the full path is
Portable Media Devices\GINA'S IPOD (F:)\iPod_Control\Music
5. Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.

Just called ATT and asked about my corp. discount...they say I can get 22% off the voice plan, but nothing on the data plan. That's still pretty good, I may just have to bite on this. I'm sick of shitty Verizon phones.

Any word on the U.S. supply for these things? My sister went to AT&T to grab a 3G at 8am, but they had fewer phones than the number of people in line. So she jetted off to Salt Lake to the Mac Store. She called them and they said they had only 100 people in line. By the time she arrived 30 minutes later, there were about 1000 people. And they were gurading the doors and only letting small groups in at a time so she couldn't ask how many phones they had.

Today is her husband's birthday and we figured that she wouldn't have to camp, given last year's surplus of phones after the first day. So he's headed off to work. Anyone know if Apple is planning on meeting demand? It would e nice for my sis to be able to head back up there this afternoon and grab one and show up to the office with one.
Ok, I picked up an EDGE iPhone off craigslist this morning for 120 bucks(!!). Now how do I jailbreak it and get it working on T-Mobile?
It's an easy program to use. Pretty much, you want all boxes checked.

What size iPhone is it? $120 is a fucking great deal for any iPhone, especially without contract.

8GB. It's got some dents, but the screen is pristine. I got a great fuckin' deal. :D
Saw an 8GB for $200 on CL yesterday, he wanted to sell it right after buying the 3G.
I'm sure it's long tone.
What would be the point if new 3G phones are the same price? Is it simply because it would no longer have a contract because his would transfer over to the new phone?

There's actually still a big market for the older iphones since they're not tied to a contract and they'll work anywhere in the world:

People dumping them on craigslist for less than 200 are either ignorant or don't want to hassle with stealbay.

haha, ya, there was like 4 ppl lined up yesterday, but I swing by before work (10am) and there's a huge line now. Probably more cuz of the activation issues. I'm happy I was able to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware yesterday, had a feeling the servers would take a dump just like last time.

2.0 firmware is pretty nice, although having to pay for apps that were free before is kind of annoying :whistle2:D.

I waited over two hours outside of my local store (and got a little sunburned doing so). Once the manager announced "There are no more 16GB phones left" a few people left. I was second to last in line and there were 3 8GB phones left in stock. Rather than pick up the 8GB though the manager said I could pay for the 16GB one and he'd give me a call in a few days when it comes in. I thought that was pretty cool. Despite not having it on day one, I'll still get it the first week it's out and won't have to pay any premium to get it...

Then again I could have walked out with an 8GB for $199 but I'm a real stickler for wanting the best model. Oh well ^_^ It was a fun experience. Some people got there around 5-6AM. I would have gone earlier but didn't realize they were opening the store earlier (8AM instead of 9AM). Oh well =P
No firmware update for me yet. It keeps saying my iPhone is up to date with 1.1.4. Blahhh.
Don't update. The activation servers are down. You'll be stuck with paper weight like me until they are back up.

Huh, didn't know that. Makes sense.
Apple really dropped the ball on this one

Sorry to hear that.

Anyone know if there's any truth to the "let the phone sit for 15-20 minutes" method of activation? I hear it works but would rather not even open the box if it wont work.
Posting from my unlocked phone at the cafe. This thing is awesome! Glad I didn't have to break my contract either. :D
T-Mobile users unite!

i would consider an original mint iphone if a good deal came around but im pretty confident that i wont see a deal around here.. heck they sell one with a "cracked" screen for 200.. wtf. It would be nice to not extend contract plus add additional plan.

then again if i stay with att i may as well drop $200 on a 3g and pay the extra $10 i think for data plan.

and ofcourse im sure next year we will see the 3rd gen iphone....

fuck YEAH!

Got my iPhone activated!

I heard about the "sit and wait" method, but I tried my own. I kept clicking on "music" in iTunes, back to "iPhone". Doing so made the iPhone try to access the activation servers.

After about 20 tries, it finally made it in and now my 2.0 iPhone is working.

Gratz! I might have to try this.

Ok, I'm not sure if I am doing this correctly. Is activation of the iPhone merely logging in with your .mac account? That's all I was prompted with when I connect my iPhone to iTunes.

My iPhone is pretty much useless now. When I plug it in, I get the AT&T activation screen. On the bright side, I just found out that I got selected to beta test a new 3G phone.

Whoever managed to get one of the new iPhones without having to activate it in store (due to the whole server being down thing) is quite lucky.

So does this new iPhone come with apps, or gives you access to free apps? I don't want to buy it and then find out I have to pay extra $$ per month to use GPS,...etc.

Go into the itunes store and click the App Store link. They have a handy link to all of the free apps that you can browse from there.
