Veering slightly off-topic, I'm not gothic and play DDR. One of the few, as I have yet to see a large group of non-gothic people playing.

My local newspaper actually recently interviewed *goth* kids playing DDR (because they hang out in HORDES), and then ran an article about this "new" DDR craze (I laughed at "new"), and how these "pasty" teens are dancing all over the dance pad as if they're in a, well basically stoned, daze. Stuff like that. I wish I could find the article. And they didn't even try to make the game itself look positive (which it is: a helluva lot of fun). They just concentrated on the "walking dead" kids. Talked about their clothes, their attitudes, quoted a few. It was really terrible. It made the game look bad because they were negatively describing the "strange" type of teens that played it.

*This is what the paper ran, I'm not trying to offend any gothic folk here.

And I know JSweeney already beat me to it, but it really struck a chord with me. No offense, this has to be the dumbest justification I've ever heard for smoking pot. I mean, you live in MA, not VT. I know personally there's plenty to do in MA (since I LIVE there!) He can't be so bored that all that's left is to smoke pot. I'm against drug-use anyway, but really...

I'm not trying to start up a flamefest with you, I just had to say that.
 
I agree moiety (k good I spelled it right). Where is the line where you become a stoner? If you define yourself just as 'casual' or every once in a while, then I say that is a stoner.

And to JSweeney, its not just 16 year old guys who fantasize about their dream video game girl. Girls do it too regardless. If they didn't then there would be no Sex in the City, no Beckham craze, no OC. Everyone wants what they can't have regardless of age. Its only when you get older that you start to realize maybe you won't get that dream job, car, spouse etc. Hence midlife crises. But its not like you just stop having that ideal image.
 
This is off topic.. but what in the hell does the "OC" stand for anyway? I dare not watch it just to find out. Television disturbs me.
 
I think girl gamers are almost more competitive than us guys. Last nite's Halo party for example, we had a girl gamer there (a first for our Halo parties thus far). Apparently every time I killed her with the sniper rifle that constituted a swift punch to my shoulder. Eventually, I quit using the rifle after my arm almost went numb. Geez, At least with guys its only verbal abuse.
 
Here's a funny story about girls and gaming. My girlfriend absolutely loathes gaming. I kept trying to get her into it, but no luck. So one day I get her to play Power Stone and she actually likes it! I was amazed! So every once in a while we would play against each other and all was good. Of course, due to way too much pracitce I could have just kicked her ass, but I didn't play my best so she wouldn't get frustrated. So stupid me one time let's slip that I was playing my best. Well that was not the right thing to say because she got quite pissed. From this day on she will never play a video game with me again.

Uhm my wife likes gaming, comics (well not really...manga she likes, but I can still show her some comics), anime (a lot of girls love anime) and sci-fi (well ok...not that one). She doesn't smell either, and isn't overweight, I mean you can see a picture of her in the gallery...only thing is she doesn't tan, she burns. So she's rather pale :lol:

Goth girls are hot, and I never see them around DDR, but I do agree, most females around DDR machines are smelly, but c'mon, they have been dancing straight for hours sometimes, so give them a break. You have to catch them before the rythym gets them.

As much as I like working recursively, (look, it's me, qouting them, qouting me, qouting them, qouting me!), I just wasn't in the mood to play cat and mouse...I felt qouting some of those messages would have takes away some of the power from the dramatic thrust that those 2 qoutes had.

Those are those ones I've told you about before, just like some of the ones I've placed on the walmart scam threads, where emotion takes over and logic and decorum take a back seat. edit: deadzone = stephen king. ever read before? no no jk. no offense taken. but i love stephen king, ESPECIALLY the dead zone. plus they had a series on the dead zone, and anthony michael hall was in it, one of my fave actors ever, playing johnny smith (hes from edward scissorhands.. perhaps you know him as winona's boyfriend.. but that was awhile ago..) anyways i used to be obsessed with anthony michael hall because he was so freeging hot but now i'm over it. (boyfriend.. helllo.. lol) but i still LOVE the series and especially love the book. so yeah, thats why my screen name is dead zone...where did you get dead of night from.

Considering the almost ridiculous state of the American public education system, and the great lenghts one has to actually go to to fail out of it (or need to be held back), that doesn't bode well for anyone's future.

When I read that, I thought of my aunt. She always told everybody, "Let me make my own mistakes," and has she ever made some whoppers. Maybe if she had taken the opportunity to learn from others, her life wouldn't be the screwed up mess that it is. I guess it's one of those cases where talking to a brick wall would be more effective.
 
Drugs and drinking filtering down to younger and younger people as time goes on is definitely interesting, from an intellectual POV. It's one of those things, that if drinking and smoking were legal, people wouldn't do it as much, and as irresponsibly as they do now.

Look at Europe. Kids drink wine and beer from the time they are 12 or 13 years of age, and binge drinking, drunk driving, etc... are all lower there. People want what they can't have, even if what they can't have isn't that great to begin with.

So anyway, hopefully this 15 year old kid will move out of it during an earlier part of his life, and not screw himself up when he hits college and beyond. I personally have seen people smoke themselves into oblivion (one actually had a psychotic episode and failed out with a 1.2 and a.75 in a year). A little bit of freedom can be taken to extremes when people are deprived of that freedom for a long time.

Kind of like those hot Catholic chicks from the all-girls school. But that's not really a BAD starvation of freedom... ;)

woah woah woah people. what is all the hostility about on this thread? while i dont use or condone drugs i really dont think anyone has the right to tell deadzone what to do with her life. besides the point that shes not even the one using drugs. and jsweeney, you just seem to be attacking her personally when she hasnt done anything even remotely close to warranting it. speak your mind about your views on drug usage, fine. but dont judge her because she doesnt share those views. now lets all smoke a peace pipe and be done with this topic.

I guess the topic should've been called are there any 'women' in existence. I think all hostility would be eliminated in that case.

And I don't think anyone's tellin anyone else how to live their life. Its not personal, I doubt anyone here knows any other CAGs in this thread in real life particularly well to make it personal
 
I for one, was not being hostile, I was merely pointing out a diversion to keep her boyfriend from getting bored that would help him out in the long run.
 
People post things in an OPEN FORUM and then are offended when they get criticized. If you can't take the heat, then stay out of the fire. Nobody twisted deadzone's arm, making her say that she has a stoner boyfriend. Might I remind everybody that ALTHOUGH this is an offtopic forum, it's a game related site. Nobody makes anybody post ANYTHING that isn't game-related, so it begs the question of why we keep getting people's life stories here (Yes, i know it's offtopic, but still). If you're not comfortable with people judging you, then don't post anything that people will judge. It IS our right to judge you, but you also have the right to ignore it (or flame, whatever). Personally, I'm with JSweeny.

Honestly, I don't think the criticism is gonna get deadzone or her bf anywhere. If anything, it'll estrange her from these forums, leaving her with a newfound pessimism for the part of the community or something. I do admit it was a bad idea to mention it in the first place, but the direction it went wasn't good either. I also agree that they DO have a right to judge her, BUT shouldn't.

i'm happy that SOME people aren't actually flaming me and standing up for me. jsweeney, you are simply a guy on a site. you can tell me what to do all that you like, but it makes no difference to me. calling my boyfriend a "loser" is not appreciated, AT ALL. you have NO right to judge him just based on one action that i said because you don't personally KNOW him. he's a good person, and perhaps i DO love him. its completely out of line for you to question his morality as a decent human being or not, and to question our love. in fact, with you doing so much flaming on ME, when I'm the one that doesn't even DO drugs (yes thank you very much, and no do NOT send emails to my parents or what not because yet again, you do not KNOW me, and do not assume things that are not true by things that might have led you on. also, just because you're obviously older then me doesn't mean so much wiser. i don't want him to exactly do the drugs, so lets just get off this topic, mkay? save the preaching for someone else because i'm not the one who even does them. exactly what that moeity i think said, just because you can judge someone on a forum doesn't mean you should, and you weren't being very nice let's just say, by personally bashing me. not to mention all the other people who assumed what you said was true and started to bash me as well. i made this forum to find out if there were any girls on this site, i didn't make this forum to find out how much an asshole Jsweeney was on preaching me on things he doesn't know about.
