As if 3 SKUs wasn't enough, the Xbox 360 Falcon.

Battery eating of the first GB.
No backlit screen on the GBA.
Dim backlit screen on first SP, SPs were also shitty to use with big hands.
Fat DS ugly and the screens scratched rediculously easy.
DSL hinges snap a lot.

Really? My kids use an old phat DS and it isn't scratched in the slightest. And I prefer they use that one because it seems more durable and hardy than the lite. I would say except for the brighter screens that the lite is a downgrade actually (and yes, I have one). There's nothing wrong with the original DS (sound is better on it too).

Agree about the lack of a new "product" for these new chips. In the long run I'm sure they will redesign the case and come up with a 360 slim, which will obviously have the new chips. But that is at least a year or more out. This Fall it will be hard to tell the difference between old and new stock - intentionally so, as others have pointed out.
I can honestly say I have never ever bought a piece of nintendo hardware in my life. And I have been gaming for 24 years.

The reason for that, is I have never much cared for the weak hardware abilities (compared to the competition at any given time) or the games on the systems. So from a certain point of view, all their hardware was "flawed" to me... simply because it was made by nintendo. :bouncy:
Your loss.
Flawed hardware? which nintendo hardware was flawed?!
Not flawed in terms of breaking, just in terms of design/usability.

Original GBA=useeable screen.
Original DS= screen still to dark, too big for a portable.
Virtual boy=just a terrible idea.
You'll be waiting a long time.

No way in hell is Microsoft dumb enough to create a 4th SKU. Why would they undercut the hundreds of thousands of consoles already in store stock by releasing what people are assuming is a "new more reliable version"? What the heck would the stores do with all their other Xbox's? Your talking about a loss of millions to create a 4th sku so everyone can ignore the other models.

I am still extremely skeptical about this "falcon" assuring higher reliability in the first place. The number one reason a company goes smaller die size with chips is cost. They will have a higher yield on the production lines, that's it. In theory they should also run cooler, but nobody has any firm numbers that overheating is the main problem in the first place, it's all assumption.
I agree it probably won't be a new sku, but probably just phased in. Hopefully their will be some indication on the box (think the PS2 changes had some kind of thing on the barcode, but not a new sku), and if not I'll just wait. I'm not dying for one as the game lineup is still a bit thin (not a big shooter, sports or racer fan) so I don't mind waiting until winter or even spring when some more games I'm interested in are out, and hopefully some of the older ones like Oblivon and Gears have gotten price drops.

As for reliability, time will tell. The smaller chips run cooler, that's just simple engineering, so hopefully it will alleviate the problem. If not, I'll just pass on the console for good, and wait for another price drop on the PS3 for my HD gaming needs.

I have a silly question: Why?

What exactly are you afraid of with a 3 year warranty? The idea that your system might break and you won't have it for a couple weeks makes you not want it at all? Even though you've somehow made it this long without getting a 360, the idea of it being sent in for repair for a couple weeks is just too horrific? I just don't get it. It's a little inconvenient but you aren't stuck with a useless hunk of plastic.

I couldn't live without live, and I couldn't live without a number of exclusive games Sony doesn't have just to have a different console that has less chance of being sent in for repair.

I just have a hard time understanding what you are afraid of.

Post of the year here, folks.

Your gamer tag is officially revoked, sir.
You cant imagine that someone might feel that a warranty doesnt excuse reliability problems? A lifetime warranty wouldnt excuse it in my eyes.
No I really can't. I honestly don't understand the mentality of studying and demanding a certain reliability ratio before purchasing an entertainment device with a phenomenal warranty.

Any piece of electronics can break. And if one is known to break a lot more often than others, I am not that stressed about it with a heavy duty warranty.

Then again, my launch 360 is still going strong, and my PS2 broke 5 years ago - which didn't make me swear off Sony (Sony did that on their own through their Blu-ray actions).

And for the record, I fully expect my 360 to eventually break for as much as I play it. I won't cry. If I was SOL and had no recourse for replacement, then I'd cry.

Hehe. Sorry. Nintendo exclusives have never fluffed my short and curly's. As a kid I was that annoying asshole you knew that went around telling everyone Nintendo sucked and Sega was better like a rabid prebucent fanboy. I'm not ashamed to admit it. And when I worked at Babbages I was proud of being singly responsible for our store selling more Genesis than SNES at Christmas.

I can understand the pain of hearing that if I posted it in the Nintendo forum, but I didn't.

1. It's just the principle of the matter. The 360 is too damn expensive already for me, since I don't game all that much. I'd never paid over $200 for a console before picking up the Wii for $250, and that was softened a bit by the inclusion of a game. So the $400 price tag, coupled with a high failure rate is just a double kick in the nuts for me and has kept me away.

2. As I said, there isn't all that much I really want on the console yet since I'm not a big shooter, racer or sports game fan. Several games I want to play through, but few "must buys" so that makes it easier for me to hold off.

3. The PS2 was my most played console last gen, so part of me is wanting to keep an eye and see if Sony can right the ship. Plus an included Blu-ray player that performs with the best standalone players (unlike the 360 HD-DVD add on which is pretty poor compared to good stand alone players) is a nice extra since I just bought an HDTV.

2.

With what they have now they should just improve the system with the cooler chips and lower the cost a little. Then maybe late next year come out with a new smaller sleeker system...ala the PS2 slim.
