Assassin's Creed - 7.5 IGN.com

So Assassin's Creed runs at 1080p?
Does the 360 version run at 1080p also? Probably a stupid question since it's most likely the easier to work with 360, but maybe the ps3 running at 1080p is the culprit behind the framerate issues. I actually never tried this before, but for games that support both 1080p and 720p, do they usually run smoother in 720p?
The intial load time is like 5 minutes (loading onto HDD). In the city there are no load times while running around, killing, etc.....I havent traveled to the other cities yet (just got my horse) so I dont know if there is a load time before each city or not but will update tonight as soon as I stop screwing around and actually travel.
Just got to the first city (Damascus) and the load time was about a minute. As soon as you stand on the cliff and see how large and detailed the city is, it is almost forgivable. That is the longest load time I've seen so far, its about 10 seconds after death, and sometimes 10-20 seconds between sequences (which is hard to explain without going into it).
How's the frame rate? It looks like Gamespot and IGN have totally opposite opinions on it.
It's nowhere near as spot on as Gamespot says, but nowhere near as broken as IGN says. Sometimes its crystal clear and sometimes its kind of choppy. The fighting is smooth as is the traversing through crowds, but sometimes when looking at the whole city from atop of a tower it gets kind of choppy. Strangely enough most of the outworld is smooth as butter. It hasnt detracted from anything I've done or seen in the game and honestly hasnt taken away from my experience.

No clue, I'm running 720p. Anyone else running 1080p?

Well I played about maybe an hour and a half to two hours and no framerate problems at all.

I'm sure that IGN & Gamespot didn't even know that it supports 1080p, so it wouldn't be the culprit for the bad framerate because for their CoD4 review, they stated that it only supported 720p. The reason why they thought that because with some games, you must uncheck 720p and 1080i in-order for the software to realize you want to play it in 1080p.

My God...did anyone else really read the Gamespot review? It reads like it was sent directly to Kevin Van Ord's Inbox from Ubisoft PR and cut-n-pasted for your consideration. (EDIT: Or at the very least, Van Ord was channeling a still-very-alive James Lipton!)

Of course, kids and those looking for validation will buy it unquestioningly.

Well, apparently AC on PS3 looks better than the 360 version. Supposedly both versions have frame rate issues.

It seems with COD4 and AC, PS3 got the better version by small tweaks (COD4 having 18 online mp & AC looking a bit better) if AC's thing is true.

I just played it for about an hour or so. Haven't even gotten to the first city yet. But so far it's a little dull. But then again I'm sure it needs a while to catch it's stride. So I'm not gonna judge yet :p But anyway no frame rate problems for me so far. The game does look really pretty. I was a little disappointed by this scifi element that they kept secret for so long. But oh well I'll see what happens when I play some more tomorrow. ^_^

I don't ever read gamespots reviews. There are to many games that they give poor reviews which deserve much better or vice versa. Plus after listening to there podcast for a while i lost all respect for them.

Thing is, they're generally tougher on a given game than any other 'major' sites, so when they skew significantly above 1up and IGN, it raises eyebrows that much more. Well, it should, anyway. And that review was 100% Hyperbole concentrate. The text made it sound like it was a 15.0!

I just got and played the 360 version of Assassin's Creed and I must say I agree with most of IGN and 1up's review except that I would give it an 8.5.

All the stuff they said that dragged on I agree with. I honestly did not like the "secret" part of the game at all and during the parts where you have to be "somewhere" else (trying to not spoil it here) gets really daunting and awful.

However, for the 360 I have found no real long load times and the frame rate has been fine for me. When I actually get to play the game, I find the investigating, combat and assassinating parts quite enjoyable. However, I can see what they mean by some of the investigating things you have to becomging repetitive repetitive.

For me this is a solid game with some great graphics and interesting inovations but it was not a "Greatest thing ever" experience for me. Hope this helps :)

IGN said that when you do the leap of faith it's not anything great because of the framerate. I've done the leap of faith a few times and nothing. I get the feeling IGN didn't want to like this game.

I've done the leap of faith more times than I can count and never got even a framerate stutter on this.

I wonder what they were smoking. I've gotten stutters on other things, but never on a leap of faith.

I get that feeling a lot when people review PS3 games... its like someone somewhere has a gripe with the PS3 version of games. I've never seen so much confusion in regards to review scores before. fuck em all.. I bought Assassin's Creed Limited Edition set for PS3!

Bought the game and playing it right now. Having fun punching guards and climbing and shoving them off the roof. Gameplay is very forgiving. Most of the time I think I fell, but I actually ended up hopping to another roof.

Did you preorder that or just happen to randomly come across it? I preordered one but apparantly they sold mine or never got it in. I had it with preordering crap, it always falls through.

I just saw it at CC... so I grabbed it.

Don't feel bad. When I was getting my regular copy at GS they asked me if I wanted the LE. They showed me the figure and I immediately passed on it.

I thought the figure would probably be worthless, but it's just the principle of the matter, it's a preorder for a reason, if you're not going hold your end of the agreement, than why should I trust you on anything else. Meh I'll just wait till my PS3 comes back and pick up the game than at closer store. I'm just pissed I drove all the way across town and they didn't have my preorder.

as simple as they are, I find myself to be enjoying stealth killing the guards in the areas I come across lol. I just got to Damascus, and I've been causin a ruckus killing guards, all the while taking care of the viewpoints and bein a good samaritan. I haven't even killed my first guy yet...

Just purchased my CE Assassin's Creed. Was a little bit ticked off that my GS ran out of the art book's that supposedly comes with the pre-order.

Picked up my new 22 inch BenQ Monitor as well. Coming from a SDTV, the visuals absolutely blew my mind away. Should have splurged on HD months ago...

You do know that CoD 4 on the 360 has 18 player MP online too, right? No? Didn't think so.

I am waiting to get this game for my birthday in January. I will probably get it for the 360 since I like the nerd points. This looks like a fun game.

PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be better than the 360 one by far for sure, so that's one coming out in the near future.

i've read that compatibilty problems exist with FW 2.00 and assassin's creed. i haven't opened mine yet. has anyone experienced freezin' in the game?

Yeah, a few times. Annoying, but not a game breaker. I played last night for two hours and didnt get one freeze but got two freezes yesterday, so its pretty random.

does anybody know how to do the jumping assassination kill from a rooftop? Like in the Monferat or whatever demo video from Ubisoft, they made him sit from a rooftop and target his enemy on ground level, then jumped all the way down and assassinated him. The best I can do is a running jump kill from the same level as the enemy.

come to think of it.. my first assination didn't go that well... wish it would have been more dramatic.

Yeah with my second assassination in Acre, I took my sweet time preparing a movie-like kill to the doctor but as soon as I crept up behind him, one of those retarded dudes pushed me into him and all hell broke lose. I still managed to kill him with 8 guards taking pot shots at me but all that preparation just went down the drain

Definitely going to replay some levels to try to get those cinematic assassinations.

haha my assassination of the doc didn't go too well either. I was creeping up behind him but he turned around and started staring at me. Then I busted a U and slowly walked away with the blend thing.....then he started comin after me. I thought he was just heading to his next patient so I stopped to let him pass, but then he got close up behind me and alerted everybody to my presence so I just killed everybody and ran him down lol.

I think my messiest was killing the fat guy during his party. He made it out of his palace and I ran him down (he sure can run fast for a fat guy). Eventually caught up and jumped on him for the kill right next to a group of guards lol

This game is pretty cool. I liked how it all started (effects n all) and the enviroment is oh so pretty :D

I wanna get Uncharted and compare how both run on the PS3 ;)

I'm guessing Uncharted is the better of the two? I still couldn't resist the LE though :/

I wasn't really a fan of the Uncharted demo. I really disliked how linear the level felt. Of course it still looks like a great game so I'll probably pick it up.

I was totally blown away by AC and while I wasn't very enthusiastic about the sci-fi plot in the beginning, i really got into it at the end. A shame since that's when it ended. Ubi could have made a much better ending with more closure while still leaving it open-ended. The cliffhanger ending was the only thing that REALLY irked me.

I was hoping they would've shifted the revealing plot point in the beginning to somewhere in the middle-to-end so that it would be a lot more effective.
Can someone tell me what do to if I can't find anything to investigate? I've been walking around for awhile and nothing.
Sounds like you're at the end of the game. Are you in the lab? Use triangle.

And I agree with you on that Shini. It would have been much more of an "Oh wow!" moment if it were shifted more towards the end.

Nah, not even close to the end. On my 5th assassination I think. I'm running around Acre but can't find any of the investigations. Very annoying.

Ah, well whenever I couldn't find any investigations I would just climb the nearest synchronization points and something would pop up eventually. Sometimes I would have to go through 5 points until I could get any investigations to pop up.

I was listening to the 1up podcast, they had N'Gai on their show. IT was pretty good this time. So anyway, they were talking about Metroid and how this game was similar, due to losing abilites and having to gain it back. I just thought this game is an excellent model for a for a 3d, 3rd person action adventure game. But so far, I'm enjoying it, just got doc. So far so good, freezes and framerate issues.

i'm enjoying the game quite a bit myself.

The way to find investigative spots is to climb the watch towers and synchronize. Since it's your 5th assassination and you are in Acre again, you need to head over to a new area of Acre and find a valid viewpoint. That will show where the other viewpoints are.

sometimes when you die and it's loading up again, the female voice says something about breaking legs. Does anybody know how to break legs?

so is this game really worth picking up on ps3? are the popups really noticable and framerate really sluggish? after all the glitches ive seen with it. and mixed reviews... ive really been looking forward to this game but now..

It's not smooth as butter but the framerate doesn't suffer much either. I was a bit skeptical going into the game, but I've gotten into it and I'll probably be playing it a lot during the holiday.

It's somewhat of an ancient "GTA" enviroment, but still stays unique and true to its purpose of submerging you into ancient cities.

Climbing is fun ^^b!!!

Btw, is there a way to assassinate dudes while your elevated from their position? I thought that would be kinda cool but have had no luck so far. After Heavenly Sword, I've been so used to hitting the right analog stick to evade that I do that on accident in this game only to have the camera move O_O

Ahhh great, I just ran into the freezing problem >.>

This is the second Ubisoft game to freeze up on my PS3 >.>

First GRAW 2 now this, and it's the same exact nuisance :/

the only time i've been able to assassinate (or at least got the option to...I messed up at go time...twice) from an elevated position was when doing the Monferat mission. If you drop down onto the shack behind him and lock on to him, you'll get the option to assassinate. Other than that I haven't been able to drop in on folks to say hello with my blade.

Well actually there was one time I dropped from a beam next to some soldier who were harassing a civilian and I was able to get off a regular stealth kill before everybody was alerted lol

Anybody know anything about that leg breaking I mentioned above?

Just press L1 while from an elevated position to lock on to the dude then hold R1 while running up to your target then press square with the short blade equipped. Altair should jump from his position and stealth kill as usual.

Doing what imascrub described is fun as well. I kill hiding Templars with that method all the time.

I also love counter killing the guards with the short blade and throwing knives. Really bad ass animations that look oh so painful.

About the leg breaking, I heard the announcer chick say that while the Animus loads up but I also have no clue how to do it.

Both the Longsword And Shortsword have the Leg Break, And it IS an Counter. Sometimes when you counter you don't stab him, and won't see any blood (blood turned on ofcourse), and the enemy will stand still for a second, That is the time when you have to press either, Square, for a Stab kill, Circle to grab him Or X to Break his legs.
