Audioscrobbler - Last FM

Mouse

CAGiversary!
I tried to get people interested in this a few weeks ago, but to no avail. It's a website/plugin combination that monitors your music listening preferences, reccomends new music, etc. It lets you see what your friend's favorite artists are, and shows you people with similar music tastes. Join up damnit. They've got plugins for all the major media players. You've just gotta configure the plugin with your account name and password before it starts giving out the info. If your little sister listens to crap music you don't want going to your profile, you can remove it. It's a great program.

Just sign up for an account, install the plugin, and get started. Then join up the CAG group. I've linked my account just so you can see what it looks like.

What the hey, I'm in. Not sure if it's poor timing or what, but their website seems to be moviing awfully slow.

also: does the audioscrobbler thing run visible, or not? I think I'm having some firewall trouble, it's saying 'Unreachable.'

I guess I'll reboot then restart it and let it run for a bit, see what happens.

The plugin runs through your media player. As long as you've got firewall permissions set for that, and have the plugin configured properly with your account, it should be working fine.

Mine works now, I guess it was related to the 'server maintenance' thing they were doing this afternoon.
Even if it were the RIAA, there's nothing inherently wrong or illegal with listening to MP3 or other digital format music. It just depends how you *got* them.

Yay. 6 more members and we can start seeing what the favorite bands of CAG are. Don't stop now people.

But yeah, the RIAA can't do anything. There's nothing wrong with listening to music in a digital format. They don't even know if it's digital. It sends information from cds you listen to also, as long as your media player automatically gets the cd tag info off online.

But what about music we aren't supposed to have ;)

Anyways, can you give me leader permission so I can setup the fourms (or you can do it) and what about giving us all journal permission.

I didn't really see the point of it since it's a music group based off of these forums. But if you want it, sure.

Whoa, I made a couple songs under my alter-ego name of "Brax0r"... and I searched for that artist name to be stupid, and I'm actually on there with three listens (of my song "More Than a Bitch"). ;o

Crazy.

Yeah, been using this for a little while, pretty cool... I like the new last.fm layout too (the hell's .fm anyways?). Anyhow, I applied wit da name f1ghtdub.
Pending membership...
Accepted.

Sorry for the ridiculous bump, but I'm having trouble with this. I don't how to get this thing to update what I listen to. So far, only one song worked, and now I can't get any other ones to work.

I'm using Winamp, I have an account set up, and I downloaded and set up the Last.fm program. What am I doing wrong?

I believe your songs have to have ID3 tags for it to work.

Check out Mp3tag: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html -- it's what I used to get all my songs tagged properly.

Well, that's partially the problem then since I mainly tried it with FLAC stuff, but I did use MP3s as well with no luck. The thing is, that one song that I says I listened to is a FLAC file!

I'm also wondering about these last.fm sigs. I looked at the link posted above and wasn't sure what that had to do with anything.

Basically, I'm a total noob at last.fm, can't get it to work, don't know how it works, but really want it to work.

Hmm, I don't know much about FLAC files, but don't they have ID3 tags as well?

And which Audioscrobbler plugin are you using? Are you using the Media Library one for Winamp? Or the new Last.Fm software dealy?

And, magically, I pick some random MP3 file and it appears to be working. So, maybe it wasn't a FLAC I used before. I'll have to check...

Yeah, I was wrong. It was an MP3. So, my problem was that this thing only recognizes MP3s.

But I stll don't know anything about those sigs, and the website seems to say nothing about them.

Ah, that sucks... you would think their software would support different song formats.

If you use Winamp, might I suggest installing this plugin: http://www.last.fm/tools/downloadplugin/?id=8 You'll probably have to uninstall the Last.FM software first. This plugin is specifically for Winamp, so all you have to leave running is, Winamp. I hate how their software pops up when trying to play music.

And about: http://customsigs.free.fr/index.php - I have no idea, I didn't use it when it was suggested to me. I just used Last.FM's signature codes: http://www.last.fm/tools/charts/

That plugin you linked seems to be working better. I'll try it out with non-MP3s later and see if they work.

And I figured out the sig chart thing, but I'm still wondering how some people like DJ K8E have really nice looking ones.
I went ahead and accepted all of you into the CAG group on Last.FM
Gracias. Yeah, things are working smoothly now.

Similar to Brak, I saw some songs (actually, a song) that I'd done on their. I'm going ahead and signing my "label" up and getting it all official and whatnot. I'm also gonna get my old band on there.

Alright, I figured it out.

Go to http://www.xfireplus.com

Register and use their interactive signature editor under CXS. All you have to do is add the Last.FM element, and put your Last.FM username in. It's pretty straight forward, and a lot easier than I thought!

I've had my account for a while. I used to get really good recommendations, but as my taste got more obscure it's having trouble findiing similar stuff that I don't already know.
