Just came back from Wal-Mart and got Avatar at midnight. They had a ton of Blu-Ray + DVD Combo pack marked on the shelf for $24.96, but rang up $19.96. Also came with a free 3D sticker, but I had to ask for it.

My friend also bought the movie at Best Buy and got a free full size poster with it at midnight.

As requested, this Blu-Ray + DVD Combo is also

$19.99 at Target
$19.99 at Toys R Us
$19.99 at Amazon
$22.99 at Best Buy

All prices good through Saturday night, at the minimum. If anything, Wal-Marts price will probably stay this price for longer than all the rest.
Glad to see people enjoy being double dipped. I'll wait thanks.
Argument is old, man. Try and understand some people just don't care about special features so there's no need to wait, and they aren't being double dipped.
April ends in 8 days. We're getting another release next week?

Who cares when the next release is? People will buy it now (those that want it) and people will wait for the inevitable re-hash (You). As long as they're satisfied with the purchase it shouldn't be your problem to worry about.
Yeah Cameron went "Well I'm telling people now there will be a special version that comes out in November with the 6 extra minutes. For those who don't want to wait that long they can buy this version and just see the movie as I made it."

We'll see. I suspect more people who don't know about the November release will be pissed when it comes out.

That's fine, i'm just trying to informed those that are misinformed.

Special Features don't bother me much, I rarely watch the Making of, unless I really wanted to know how they did stuff in the movie, but I rather have the Extended version of the film, then the regular. That's my buy point.

I'm sure the majority of us learn that mistake when New Line put out a bunch different versions of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy back years ago, when they finally release the clear cut definite edition with all the deleted footage added into it.

Same when Watchmen came out, and then they released the Ultimate Cut last summer.

Robocop's X-Rated cut on the Criterion Collection VS The theatrical cut. Criterion was better.

...and on Cameron, who can forget Terminator 2 :p Bunch of versions of it over the course of time on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD & Blu-Ray, but the Ultimate Edition on DVD and Skynet Edition on Blu-Ray are the clear cut best version.

Just saying, in these times and especially for all of us here on CAG trying to save money on everything, we be wise not to double dip when Fox is teasing us with the more definite version over our heads.
Its funny a movie that is supposed to promote earth day used a paper slip cover.
and is being sold at Wal-Mart... a company that does nothing for the local communities or the earth.

This happens all the time with big movies, people should expect it by now. At least Cameron tried to do right by people and tell them ahead of time. The people that don't know stuff like this happens, well chances are they aren't going to care about another release with 6 more minutes and bonus features.
I still haven't seen this movie.
+1 here and I would have gotten this for $20 if they had at least tried, but no extras=no purchase for me.

I've dealt with enough people in my lifetime in retail that got pissed when a better edition of a DVD/Blu/etc came out later after the initial release. Even with the heads up New Line/Peter Jackson gave with LOTR people still were pissed. I'm not saying everyone cares about bonus features but there's more than enough people out of the 1.5 million that bought Avatar on its first day of release who do care but aren't aware of the SE coming in November.

I'm thankful for Cameron at least being honest about the SE coming. That's why I will just wait it out. I can live until November and if I badly want to watch Avatar I can easily rent it off of Netflix. No big deal to wait for me and its not like as if I don't got a library of other films/TV shows I can watch anyways. Avatar is not the end all be all of entertainment as we know it.

Target is a French owned company, do you think they are better? In my opinion people are going to work at Wal-Mart and live in trailer parks regardless, because its easy.

Would it have killed Fox (and Cameron) to have included these more than likely 10-20 minutes total extras on the DVD/Blu release? I doubt it would have killed the bit rate needed for the film itself. Yeah these extras might of been paper thin in terms of actual content but its a slap in the face to people buying the DVD/Blu that this isn't included yet Vudu folks get it.

I don't really care how you guys spend your money. I think it is the height of arrogance telling people they are foolish for buying whatever version they are getting.

On a different note how will the 3D version work? Will you need a 3D tv and glasses?

Not only is this the first of a series of ever-increasingly more costly or "special" editions, this film's Blu-Ray and DVD releases are going to be so double-dip profit driven it will probably give George Lucas new ideas. I will wait.

Lucas is the original double dip master. A buddy of mine still has like five or six different VHS versions of the OT and three of Indiana Jones trilogy.

A friend of mine picked up the DVD version for 12 dollars from some grocery store I'm tempted to tell her to take it back and go to Wally World.

Am I missing an intended smily here, or did you actually mean that? I've heard foolish people say that before, so I assume that is the joking reference.
The Ultimate Edition in November will NOT be in 3D. The 3D edition comes out next year. So even if you wait until November, you're still getting jipped.

.
Good point. 3D home theater sets just got on the market. There is no way that 1.5 million 3D tv sets will be in homes this fall.
Commentary=Useless crap
Trailers=Useless crap
Bonus Materials=Usually useless crap
These are just opinions though, now with the facts.

Do a little research, a quick google search will find you a dozen stories from when it was announced the November release will not be in 3d.

Also although there has been no official word as far as I know, when the 3d version does eventually come out down the road, they are talking about it being for 3d TV's not the paper glasses 3d. So the 3d version will be essentially useless to the 95% of us who will not be buying a 3d tv anytime soon.
I agree...I use to be BIG on getting a dvd with lots of special features...but after watching some of them I realize most of it is fluff :( I am somewhat disappointed that movies that are effects heavy have maybe less than 10 minutes of behind the scenes making of the effects. Commentaries use to be informative, now they put me to sleep as well.

You're only being double dipped if you're buying 2 copies.
You guys sound like the people crying Gamestop sucks when you're the one letting them screw you.

Honestly, It really hurt me when I found out that there were no official coupons to use for this movie on Blu-ray. I was so used to using coupons on previous Blu-rays such as the Disney ones... Anyway, I spent 20 bucks on it plus tax... Although it's a bare bones edition, I'm sure that when the special edition of Avatar on Blu-ray comes out, I can most likely sell this bare bone edition on Craigslist for $15. It's no biggie!

Yep. And even with good extras, I'd still rather watch another movie than spending time watching extra features 99% of the time.

I used to watch some extras back in college etc. But once getting much busier with grad school, and now having a career etc. I seldom watch them. It's hard enough to find time to watch movies, much less extra features.

Just bought this version from Walmart for the $19.96 + tax. For about $10 each meaning blu-ray & DVD its not all that bad.

I'm GLAD there aren't any special features, cuz that means i can have Avatar for only $20 and not spend a penny more on crap that i never watch :)

Dang it. I just missed out on this. My Wal-Mart still had this marked at 24.96 for the combo and I price checked and it was still same 24.96. This must be ymmv. My wife was about to bite on this for my bday then she backed out when it was the 24.96. Darn it.

Bought it a few days back, thinking I would be paying $25. Was surprised at the register, then sold the DVD, without the case for $10 to my girlfriend's boss. Mmm.......$10 Blu
