I actually knew Las Luchas in 2001 when they were still backyarding and they were amazing even then. I haven't talked to either in years but I remember Will was into metal so we would talk about that. When I read they were on ECW I was pissed that I missed it but I'm sure it will be up on ECW.com or I can just torrent it later. Awesome that they got on.
I worked with Will and his cousin Junior (who's actually playing guitar in Set Your Goals now) at Smartpunk. As soon as he found out I was a wrestling fan, we'd end up talking about wrestling all day long and getting no work done. You might know Danny too, he used to backyard with them too. Small world. :)
CM Punk has been pissing me off more and more ever since he joined WWE. At first, I was real happy to see an ROH guy make it to the big leagues... Reminded me of how all the ECW guys scattered around 2000 or so... but then all they do is talk about "muay thai and jiu-jitsu background" which I doubt he even has.. and his game plan is the same every match. This might sound strange, but WWE-CM Punk embodies everything I hate about ROH more than ROH-CM Punk ever did. All he does is imitate a Japanese puro style match... hey buddy, if I want to watch puro, I will. What's next Punk? You gonna use the burning hammer too? Maybe have Umaga or Monty Brown kick out of it? Just for the lulz?
I get what you mean about Punk, as his matches have become very predictable. I don't know if that's more on him or on the WWE style he's semi-forced to wrestle. The whole "muay-thai" background is almost as laughable as Kevin Thorn being "a follower of vampirism". For Punk and his current gimmick, I still think the modified Go2Sleep works well as a finisher. The majority of US fans haven't seen it stateside, and the ones that have are the smarky ones who follow everything and anything wrestling.

Personally, I think Punk's character feels outright neutered unless he's being the "I'm better than you" straightedge wrestler. He's always worked better as a heel, simply because the gimmick is a natural heel. If they want him to work the martial arts gimmick, use it as emphasis, not his entire gimmick. Let him come out and outwrestle people instead of being an RVD clone. Punk's roundhouse kicks don't look that impressive anymore once we saw Van Dam do 15 of them in the match before. If they turn Punk heel, let him be (no disrespect intended) Mr. Perfect - cocky and arrogant, but not in an Orton kind of way, in a "I can pin you 100 different ways, but I only need 1" sorta way.

Still way excited to see Punk at Wrestlemania. It's a much better chance for him to show what he can do instead of having to drag himself through matches with Matt Striker. Doubt he'll win, but Punk with weapons will be very fun to watch.

Seeing as how WWE feels the need to remind us, each and every week, precisely what it means to be straight edge, I somehow don't think they believe we are sophisticated enough to grasp the character complexity of an arrogant sxe kid.

I think that they need to push him back to where he was as a face, get people to cheer for him, and then turn on Sandman, squash him in a monthlong feud, and then move onto the champion.

I'd have to agree completely. Sandman's a perfect target for a CM Punk heel turn.

Then again, this is the same ECW that introduced La Resistance a month after releasing half of both of their only tag teams.

I was hoping he would do a Pedigree last night.... but no... unfortunately the WWE doesn't let Mr. RVD/KENTA clone anywhere near Hunter's moveset. :applause:

Nope. It just doesn't work on my Firefox and on IE - it's just a small red X.

Wow SD actually looks good this week. I'm happy to see Kane vs Booker T in a MITB qualifying match, one of those two definitely deserves to be in the match.

Especially Booker, who could use the MITB win to FINALLY get his one-on-one rematch with Batista. I doubt he'd want to face 'Taker, as he might need to find more evil-thwarting dirt, and royalty shouldn't have to do that.

To keep the Mike Awesomeness of this thread going, here's his FMW theme, "He is Awesome!" - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NHTA46O4

According to the Wrestling Observer newsletter, K-1 is looking to book a date in Las Vegas on May 19th with a MMA-main event bout between former NCAA two-time amateur wrestling champion and WWE superstar Brock Lesnar against K-1 star Choi-Hong-Man. That's pretty much it for now, but with the Lesnar/MMA subject being a big question mark for such a long time, this seems to at least breathe some life to the topic. We'll see.

May 19th? I wonder if we'll get another round of Kane craziness around then...

Anyways, Choi-Hong-Man
k-one.jpg

Choi, Hong-man (Korean: 최홍만, Hanja: 崔洪万, born on October 30, 1980)) is a Korean kickboxer and former Ssirum wrestler. He currently competes in K-1. He stands 2.18 meters (7'2") tall and has a 9-2 record in K-1 since debuting at the World GP 2005 event in Seoul in March, 2005. In the World Grand Prix Final 2005, he lost to Remy Bonjasky by decision.
Choi Hong Man has only lost once to Remy by decision. He has never been knocked down once. He got his nickname "techno goliath" when he was a ssirum player, or ssirum wrestler in South Korea, before he became a K1 fighter. Ssirum is a Korean traditional wrestling art, similar to Japanese sumo wrestling. When Choi won a Ssirum competition, he would dance to techno music. His dancing excited the crowd and they often joined in the dancing. This made his victories very enjoyable and made him quite popular. He is actually a very good dancer for such a huge man. The nickname "Techno Goliath" was a result of his victory dances and his large size.

That news about Brock is a few issues old, but is the latest info about their fight.

Here's some Observer site news for today -
--This will probably change several times over the next six days because of the gigantic political implications of this decision, but Mistico, against the wishes of CMLL, is scheduled to appear on Tuesday night in San Jose at the WWE tapings. (thanks to Steve "Dr. Lucha" Sims)

--The funeral for Mike "Awesome" Alfonso will be 10 a.m. Friday morning at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, FL. A viewing takes place 6-8 p.m. on Thursday night at the same place.

--I've mentioned this on several occasions, but once again would like to praise the work of Anthony DeBlasi and Georgiann Makropolous, who have raised $11,000 in donations for Konnan's kidney transplant. There are nine new auctions up at www.wrestlingfigs.com with all proceeds added to the fund.

--Takeshi Morishima & Nigel McGuiness as Team NOAH vs. Samoa Joe & Homicide as Team ROH headline Saturday night's ROH show in Chicago, plus Colt Cabana vs. Jimmy Jacobs in a death match, Christopher Daniels & Matt Sydal vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe for the tag titles, Sara Del Rey & Allison Danger vs. MsChif & Serena Deeb (OVW), Brent Albright vs. Claudio Castagnoli, B.J. Whitmer vs. Jimmy Rave, Roderick Strong & Davey Richards vs. Austin Aries & ? and Shingo vs. Matt Cross vs. Trik Davis vs.C.J. Otis

--TV Guide mistake in listings for Raw on 2/26 has: A 20-man battle royal determines Chris Benoit's `Bad Blood' challenger. Scheduled to appear: Maven, Ric Flair and Chris Jericho. Actually it's Shawn Michaels & John Cena vs. Edge & Randy Orton (thanks to Jeff Cohen)

--There is an article at www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/02/21/the-dangers-of-ultimate-fighting-stocks / regarding the IFL stock. It really says nothing other than it is risky to buy, acts like IFL is far more popular than it is, claims WWE's market cap is 377 million (it's actually well over 1 billion) and says that IFL could be the next WWE and wrote, "If it is, it is worth less than Mr. Market apparently thinks it's worth now." Actually, if IFL becomes the next WWE, which has zero chance of happening, the stock would be through the roof compared to now.
--Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 was the No. 3 best selling game on PS2 this past month behind Guitar Hero 2 and Madden NFL 07. There are going to be a lot of happy people when some of those royalty checks come in.

--The line-up for this coming Tuesday night's WSX show will be Matt Sydal vs. Scorpio Sky and El Hombre Blanco Enmascarado vs. Human Tornado
The update on Mistico kind of troubles me, although it does appear that he's just trying to live a dream by going to WWE, so good for him. The Konnan update is heartwarming, and I'm glad to see the newest SD game do so well, even though I'm not a big fan of it, I'm happy to see it give the low-end guys royalties.

Unless Brock has been crosstraining I bet the chink dude will crush him. K-1 is kick boxing... wrestlers don't succeed.

Also, I've never even heard of IFL. wtfz0r?

The IFL is the team-based MMA group, the International Fight League. They've got a TV deal with MyNetworkTV, and their show will be airing on Monday nights, with an hour running into Raw's airtime... ouch.

I've accidentally watched the Detatched from Reality Hogan Vanity Half-Hour on Vh1 a couple of times, and I gotta point out how hysterical it is that he blatantly (yet obliviously) robs other wrestlers of their material (whaddup, Billy Graham?).

I say that because I heard him say jabroni, like, 37 times in five minutes.

Hogan Knows Best is just a worked show, and it's a glorious one. Here's some great stuff about Backlund -
Bob Backlund, 58, walks to and from the hotel to the Impact Zone - and it's a long walk - 30 to 60 minutes. He attributes his current good health to all the walking he does and estimates he finds an average of 50 cents a day in change while walking. He also starts his day with a glass of carrot juice and garlic. He says the concoction is the closest thing in nature to "human blood."

My wife's cousin is on the Pitbulls in IFL (Erik Owings). I've seen him lose and win one fight on tv, but don't really follow them otherwise.

Wasn't trying to be a "shit-ass". I TAKE HUGE OFFENSE TO THAT COMMENT BY THE WAY. :D Just callin em like I see em.. I think I've already explained to you that I've always been one step away from a racist.

Nah. All I know about you is that you're a frequent drug user who wants to go to graduate school for a psychological degree you can use to study "drug abuse."

Don't ever discover the research method "ethnography," by the way.

Look, you can be mister bad-ass pseudo racist if you feel you have something to prove. Just don't bring that Hank Hill bullshit around.

"Are you Chinese or Japanese?"
"We are Laotian, from Laos!"
"So, are you Chinese or Japanese?"

G I thought you remembered my rant about why racist jokes can be funny? Guess not. Anyway, I don't see why you're taking this personally... (I've noticed you seem to get upset/confrontational in other threads as well) You should take a chill pill, I have plenty for sale  And I'm not trying to be Mr. Bad-Ass psuedo racist... that's just who I am, how I was raised and all. I don't see a problem with what I do or say. I'm a good person, I don't make inferences about people based on their race. If you're bothered by my words, that's your thing. But whatever. If my comment bothered anyone, I apologize...

Oh and your references to ethnography and my educational goals, I only recently (last year) decided what I wanted to do for a career. I could have chosen a computer science based major (IS or CS) and probably done well, but that stuff bores the hell out of me. Psychology interests me, and the whole reason I got into it was to learn more about myself. Why I do the things I do, and if I could self medicate. Another thing, around here you grow up seeing a lot of junkies. Eventually, a lot of your friends become junkies. From speaking to them I've noticed a disdain they have for counselors and shrinks. Many of them feel that simply knowing the field and the science behind it isn't enough to understand addiction, and that the only real way is first hand experience. I'm sacrificing myself for my fellow man :)

2 more MITB competitors were revealed. Toy maker JAKKS is preparing to release a “Money in the Bank” toy set. Here's the competitors so far in the match:

Assuming this is accurate, these are five of the six participants for the MITB match:

Edge
CM Punk
Booker T *beats Kane this week on SD*
Jeff Hardy
Mr. Kennedy

That leaves one spot left, my money is on
Randy Orton
getting in there.

I made my prediction a spoiler as by not mentioning someone, may be a spoiler as to who the two new competitors are.

I have a feeling
Kennedy
will win the Money in the Bank.

I thought that at first too, but once Edge beat RVD, I kinda figured 6-0.

I really hope Edge doesn't win though. I still don't know why WWE decided not to have an Edge vs Orton match at WM, and put Nitro into the MITB match.
Unless of course Edge or Orton is going to win.
Lance Storm has put some quite funny stories about Mike Awesome up on his website. It's a good read.
I always have enjoyed Lance's commentary. Thanks for the heads up.

Rene Dupree wrestled at last night's OVW taping in a tag match with Sylvan against Harry Smith and Kofi Kingston, and well, he had a "wardrobe malfunction" during the match. The show's reporter said, "An oblivious Rene Dupree didn't realize that his testicle had come out during the match and he pranced around the ring after the match with it hanging out."

LOL

Uh oh... hopefully he injures some combination of Vince McMahon, Umaga & Batista (again) upon his return.

Mark Henry returned to the ring at last night's OVW television taping after being out of action for over seven months due to a patella injury. At the 7/15 SMNE special, Henry completely tore his patella tendon off the bone and split his patella completely in two. He dominated Daniel Rodimer in his return match.

Oh, where is my head at, obviously he needs to injure Hardcore Holly too.

There you are. Dan Rodimer with his "hurrr" look on his face. It will keep him from becoming a "superstar," I assure you.
Wow. I have to agree with you now...poor guy.

The previous page reminded me of the awkward and hilarious Big Show/Kai En Tai "$$$$s/goofs" controversy, so for that I salute everyone.

(edit - what the fuck kind of filter is that? change it to some hilarious graphic please)

If I had my way,
Kane vs. Khali
at Wrestlemania would end with
Kane annihilating him with a fireball (even if it's after the match)
in anticipation for one last big heel run before he calls it quits. But I doubt it, they'll probably just squash him while stupidly pushing
Khali
as a
unstoppable monster
when they SHOULD be pushing him as
a "when all else fails, call him" loveably foreign babyface
.

HURRRRRRRRRRR

I think they should push
Khali as an unstoppable monster. He has the size, he speaks no english, outside of fuck you, and he has no move set whatsoever. WWE still has guys like Rob Conway and Val Venis for a reason, to job to Khali! I hate to see Kane do it though, a feud between these two is illogical on several levels, does this mean Khali is back on SD?
Either way the WM card at the moment looks a little better:

1. Cena vs HBK

2. Batista vs Undertaker

3. MITB 3: Edge vs CM Punk vs
Booker T
vs
Jeff Hardy
vs
Mr. Kennedy
vs ???
Orton probably

4.
Lashley
/Trump vs Umaga/McMahon with
Austin as the referee

5.
Kane vs Khali

Then I'd project:

6. Ashley vs Melina

7. Benoit vs MVP? maybe a cluster match w/Finlay & Boogeyman

8. Has to be some sort of tag team matches, possibly for the tag titles

9. Flair vs Carlito, either this or they'll be teaming up again setting up their match at Backlash

10. ECW originals (RVD, Sabu, Sandman, Dreamer) vs New Breed (Elijah, Cor Von, Striker & Thorn)

11. Chavo vs Rey? Is Rey ready to come back yet? Only time will tell us

No Hogan makes me a sad panda though. It's a lot more fun seeing him in person than do his crazy old Hogan routine on TV.

I'm going to openly discuss your last spoilers, because they're just predictions.

I think you're right on by guessing that there's gonna be some 6-minute fatal four-way w/ Benoit, Finlay, Boogeyman, and MVP. The WWE really wants to give its workers a WM payday, and in the end, we get a bunch of matches with guys smooshed into matches like old high-school kids and phone booths. This is probably spot-on, although I don't think the WWE has discovered this match out. WM is 6 weeks away, so they'll figure it out in 4 or 5.

Truthfully, (and contrary to the payday notion mentioned above), I don't see any of the tag team champs defending at WM, even though it's assured that Cena/HBK will drop them beforehand, treating the tag titles as an afterthought, and a meaningless prop to reinforce the feud b/w the two. My prediction? Cade and Murdoch or WGTT. You sure won't see them at WM (though Shelton can steal the show at times).

I could see Flair vs Carlito, with Carlito turning on him beforehand.

ECW? That'll be on the pre-show and the DVD, but won't happen between 7-11PM on Wrestlemania night. Otherwise, a solid prediction.

I am 80% sure Rey won't be ready until after WM, but if there is a Cruiserweight title defense, expect a clusterfuck like they had at no way out (guys getting pinned after 45 seconds of wrestling). Cripes allmighty, that'll happen indeed.

I'd say we'll probably get a Greasers/Londrick tag match. Then again, they'll probably give it away for free on Smackdown instead. That ECW 8 man tag should happen at Wrestlemania, at the very least to open the show. I give it maybe ten minutes at most, but I think it happens on the show.

Whatever happened to Kenny? Seems like he up and disappeared.

MY GOD! That guy looks like he's fighting a feaking ten-year-old!

My money's on Brock
to get the ever-living shit kicked of him.

Sad thing to hear that not only is Mike Awesome gone, but he did himself in. Up until his death I really thought TNA could have used him. He would make an awesome (no pun intended) opponent for just about any of the ME players.

It also looks like the IC title will once again not be defended at WM. The very last time the IC title was defended at WM was at WM18, almost five years ago.
I'm going to openly discuss your last spoilers, because they're just predictions.
How about Benoit vs Finlay vs Regal vs Boogeyman. That'd be classic, Boogeyman would look so bad it'd be comical... or would he? Maybe the combined efforts of those three individuals could make the Boogeyman look decent in the ring. I'm not counting on it though.

My WM card is missing Johnny Nitro, that would be sad.

Part of me believes Cena & HBK may hold the titles through WM, since A. The Tag Titles are meaningless now anyway, and B. There's never been a tag champ vs tag champ for the World Title at WM match before.

In all honesty the belts may serve the storylines better being kept around Cena/HBK than being dumped on another tag team until Vince thinks of someone else to hot-shot the titles off to, probably the team of Umaga & Mark Henry!
funny dupree story... why they took him off ecw?

They didn't take Dupree off ECW. He teamed with Sylvan on Tuesday.

To anyone interested in the Heroes of World Class, here's "Of Birth and Blood", another fan-made documentary on the company and the Von Erichs. I've got the original files saved to a disc somewhere, so I'll search for them, but until there, here it is on youtube.
Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwbFjyGy61E

This covers some of the same ground as HoWC, but also touches on topics that were missing from it, like Fritz' heart attack angle to try and get ratings back up. This is also a very metaphorical documentary, and like HoWC, has some incredible music videos set to World Class footage.

As for why WWE is holding off the Orton-Edge match, it's probably due to them wanting Rated RKO to be a strong team when HHH comes back - they've got an instant, big-money program waiting in the wings when HHH returns, and it makes sense to have them stay together until the RKO-DX feud finishes.

That could take awhile... oh well, anything for the H's I guess. He should come back as the bionic son-in-law. It'd be like Austin's gimmick, only more bionic.

Why WWE never really re-visited the HHH/McMahon feud is beyond me, those two had some good chemistry going, and HHH was just getting warmed up at the main event level.

Well, the difference between a great wrestler and a legendary wrestler is the ability to make *anyone* look good. Even the Boogeyman. If they can't do it, then they shouldn't be as highly regarded as they are.

And I don't think you'll see Regal or Taylor at WM. Shame, really, as their style is so enjoyable to watch.
