Batman: The Dark Knight - Movie Thread - $158.3 Million First Weekend
It's not just to keep Harvey's ideals alive, but to keep the work he did in the courtroom untainted by his actions. It would make it easier for all the mobsters he had put away to get a walk if it was revealed the DA was mentally unstable. Doesn't matter if he was that way because of what happened to him, the lawyers would use it to call everything he did as DA into question and likely get a lot, if not all of those mobsters a walk.

I also think that there may be some hope that if Harvey remains untainted, that his apparent death could rally the city to save itself in a way that, at least according to Ra's Al Ghul, the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents had.
oh I see now. I do recall someone said if someone asks for Dent, tell them he's still missing... I can now see how people can lead to believe that Joker killed Harvey when he blew up the hospital.

Batman can be made to look like he went after the other people because he can be what no one else in Gotham can be.

Did anyone pay attention to Gordon's family? He DOES have a daughter. Is her name is Barbara after her mother? We do not know but it would have been nice for Jim to call out his daughters name that would eventually hint at a future batgirl.

Anyways I really got to see this movie again in IMAX next week.
Spoiler that, Jake.

And I don't think that he thinks that way. He is Batman, not Wayne. He still wavered a bit at some points, but by the end of the movie, that fact has solidified forever.
Rachel was his only hope to becoming normal again. Sure he is Batman, but he had hoped that one day he could be Bruce Wayne again. Which is why I believe he wanted to save Rachel and not Dent.

I just got back from seeing it - excellent all around! As far the debate about whether Joker tricked Batman when giving the two addresses, I'm 99% sure Batman said he was going to save Rachel when asked by Gordon where he's going. Also, Batman didn't really lose it in the interrogation room until Joker revealed he had Rachel captured, in addition to Dent. It seems Batman was worried about Dent for sure, but his concern for Rachel was at a whole other level.
I saw it last night at a midnight showing. No Watchmen trailer at my theater though
Strange, mine aired it right after the Terminator Salvation trailer. Looks like a good movie, but one that I'm still unsure about.

As for the Dark Knight, pretty good movie, but the ending left too many loose ends.
What happened to Two-face & the Joker? What exactly did Fox do after the sonar equipment was destroyed?
I do think that they could've found a better replacement for Rachel than Maggie Gyllenhaal. Her acting was okay at best and made it look like the character pulled a complete 180 with her personality. That was the only flaw I had with the movie.

Also, I guess we'll be seeing a new Batmobile in next movie(if there is one). Hopefully Wayne Manor will be completely rebuilt by the next movie.

Besides the fact that she looks like a sad cartoon turtle and every other chick in the movie was 100 times hotter than she was...
Well he said he was going for Rachel. Can't really say he looked shocked due to the mask however just the way they made the sceen made me think he was expecting Rachel.

Also did they show anything after the credits? I tried to stay but had everyone in the row I was in get up and walk out in front of me and I was on the end.

Also I have to say the Terminator preview was not as bad as i thought it would be. However I still dont like the fact that batman plays connor.
nothing after the credits.

Phenomenal, phenomenal movie.

I was amazed that it exceeded my expectations.

The only thing I didn't care for was Bale's voice as Batman - a little lispy and a little corny, if you ask me.

Otherwise, holy cow - I can't wait to see it again.
Regarding the ending,
It has left me a bit depressed at the end knowing that I've seen the last of that Joker performance. It was brilliant the way he carried the character, with the ticks and the posture and whatnot. I'm really curious as to what they'll do about it in the future.
I think that the mold he cast for future performances of the joker will be well, and easily, mimiced by an actor of a lesser caliber. Ledger's passing is sad, but the standard he's set for this particular villain is phenomenal, and the next person to play Joker will be more Ledger, I hope, than himself.

Also, kudos to Maggie Gyllenhall for making me totally forget that she was not the original Rachel. Impressive indeed.

Agreed and Maggie is ugly as sin.

3:30 AM Imax showing was packed. A simple Harry Potter teaser (no footage) for the 6th book came up and people started cheering like hell. Then, when the Watchmen trailer came up, only a few people were clapping, myself included. Come on people, it's Watchmen!

Overall, the movie was amazing. I almost knew everything about the movie, since I've been reading spoilers for more than a year (I know, shame on me :whistle2:#), but that movie still had me on the edge of my seat.

It was great to have a fantastic audience too. It just makes the movie experience all the better. We cheered and we laughed at the right moments.

When Oldman came up and took Ledger by surprise with the shotgun, we started clapping and cheering up a storm. One guy even said, "Don't fuck with Gary Oldman!"

I'll probably see the movie again tomorrow or on Sunday.
Agreed and Maggie is ugly as sin.
No way. She was cute as hell in "Stranger Than Fiction." She was very good in her role, IMO.
did they hack the internets in the movie.
hack the internets? no... not exactly, but they did hack something else that is used everyday people and turned into something quite unexpected. It was a cool effect. It also brought up and ethical question of weither or not it is right to use such technology in that way.

Didn't think she looked bad in "Stranger Then Fiction" however in TDK I don't think she looked all that great. Looked almost like Rachle had aged 10 years and everyone else stayed the same.

also someone said something about batgirl. I dont see that happening unless it is a nother move of its own. I read that in an interview Bail said that if roben shows up he is gone. I would think the same would be the same with batgirl.

This is a joke, right? You don't really think that's possible, do you?

No one else will be the Joker. There's dozens of Villans in the DC universe that could be used.

Riddler, Madd Hatter, Killer Croc, Bane, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn (as an obsessed fan maybe), Clayface, Catwoman, Black Mask, Deathstroke (DC's Deadpool :) ), Mr. Freeze, The Penguin, Hugo Strange, Monarch of Menace, Pix, The Clock King, Phantasm, Toymaker, Radiation Roy.

I say go off the beaten path with Hugo Strange as the hidden threat and Toymaker as the immediate one.
This is a joke, right? You don't really think that's possible, do you?
wait what?

you are talking about the cell phone sonar thingy right and how Batman hacked all the cell phones and linked them to so that he could try to use it to locate the Joker?

And yes I was joking with the hack the internets guy.

Out of all of those, I can only really see them using Riddler, Bane, Catwoman, or Penguin (I think Nolan already ruled Penguin out though) in this line of movies. Everyone else is either too out there or too much of a minor-leaguer.

So...
Is Lucius still a part of Wayne Ent.? They left this one so open. He said as long as it wasn't there, he wouldn't be, but it was destroyed.
I think he's leading for an Acting Oscar with the Joker.

No, I was asking about the phone thing. You don't think they could do that, do you?

When did DC have deadpool? I always thought he was Marvel. Anyway with this movie line only ones I can think of that would be good are catwoman maybe, riddler and bane. I would like them to bring the joker back but dont know how they could do it and if people would accept the new one or not. They would have to explane a new look or something due to him being different.
The only thing I didn't care for was Bale's voice as Batman - a little lispy and a little corny, if you ask me.
My friends always have the same complaint, but honestly, I've never had a problem with it.

I asked my friend that same question because I thought there was a clue when
he look off his jacket and was un buttoning his shirt and walking away from the device. He is convinced that Batman assured him that this is a one time deal and after that the machine would be destroyed. So yea he still works for Wayne Ent.
When did DC have deadpool? I always thought he was Marvel.
Deadpool is Marvel.

Deathstroke is essentially DC's Deadpool.
My friends always have the same complaint, but honestly, I've never had a problem with it.
Same here. It makes sense, since he is supposed to be menacing, intimidating, and hiding his identity at the same time.
You know what really bothers me in these Batman movies though?
Christian Bail's voice when he's Batman. :|
I was talking about that with a friend when we got out of the movie last night. It's so corny. And his jaw sticks out when he does it too, makin' him look like:

The difference being that the Joker isn't some throwaway villain, he's Batman's arch nemesis.

I'd like to see the Riddler get re-imagined for the dark theme of the movies for the third one.

LOL

Honestly I don't like the cowl. I know he wants to minimize his chances of being ID'ed by the cops but come on now. Wonder what he looks like when he eats a fig newton?

And the voice. He screams and talks like he is growling. I am sorry but nearly 20 years of hearing Conroy as the voice of batman just puts the standard on how he should act and sound. I can't get use to Bale's voice.
Deadpool is Marvel.

Deathstroke is essentially DC's Deadpool.
What? no.

Deathstroke is a serious Badass. Deadpool is the complete opposite ( A serious Whackjob). Only reason theyre lumped together's because of either the name Wade/slade wilson and the costume.

Great movie, i was pissed when i thought
they'd actually killed Gordon, I knew something was up though, no way they'd kill such an important character.

I don't understand why people say all these villains won't fit into Nolan's movies? I mean Begins had Scarecrow! I would love to see Clayface, Scarface (That's a lot of faces), or the Riddler. Nolan's brother has said that it won't be Cat Women or Penguin. I would love (kinda half joking) to see Rainn Wilson play the Riddler.
Ok, if you clapped during any point during or before this movie, you are a moron. You are clapping at a screen.
I can't stand when people clap in the theater for this very reason. Who are you applauding???

OMFG OMFG WOW. Just saw it and it was fucking unbelievable amazing.
I can't stand when people clap in the theater for this very reason. Who are you applauding???
people clapped the
first time joker reveals himself
and when the credits said heath , and when
batman got him arrested first time
it didn't detract from me it was still amazing. The sound and picture quality was perfect i couldn't care if they clapped.

I don't think i want another batman this was so good i would be perfectly satisfied at leaving it here. But for our other villain
two face I would have like to see it end at him losing his coin toss and shoot himself so batman would have been free from the police.
They peaked with The Joker then.

None of those other villains can match his charisma and screen captivation.
This

Just got back, I don't see this movie being topped at all in the franchise, Joker was so batshit insane but funny at the same time that anything else would just seem boring.

You guys should have heard the person in my crowd who laughed like the joker during the funny scenes. I was like dude chill out it's not that funny.

Anyways what did you think of the music? I read a long while back that the first movie didn't have a theme music and that they were going to make sure that the second one had one.
