Battle of the Donuts: Krispy Kreme VS. Dunkin Donuts

Krispy Kreme. I only had a year with them before they died out in Rhode Island, but I'm loath to return to DD after tasting KK's stuff. I'll miss watching for the free donut light while driving.
I am afraid to inform you that DD has just as much sugar and fat as a KK doughnut does.
Even if they did, that was not my point. Krispy's donuts taste sugary and fatty, Dunkin's taste baked and fluffy.

Only donuts worth eating are Kingpin in Berkeley. None other taste good enough to offset how bad they are for you. Therefore Kingpin is quite dangerous....I try to stay away from there. Krispy Kreme?? That shit is flat out NASTY.

That's because the entire doughnut is air. Seriously, bite into one. You get a millimeter of dough, air, millimeter of dough.

Not true at all. Krispy Kreme donuts are the ones full of air, they should be called candy circles with extra air. :puke:

All I know is this, all the KK I've ever been to make their donuts on site, DD gets them shipped in from central baking facilities, now I dunno about the rest of you but I'd rather have one made that day in-house than one that's been on a truck and shipped in.

Oh shit, that one in Warwick/Cranston is gone?

Bullshit. I could park my car in the airholes in a DD doughnut.

I like Dunkin Donuts coffee best, as for the donuts, it depends on my mood; but my local bakery wins out over both of them...GO IMPALLARIA'S footlong sugar twist....
Japan's Mr. Donut beats both competitors by leaps and bounds. Mmm, strawberry ring...
I've had Mr. Donut. Pretty Good. I have a mug from Mr. Donut.:D

And I like both KK and DD.

Dunkin Donuts. Krispy Kreme is a ripoff at 75 cents for a glazed, 85 cents for everything else. I actually prefer my local supermarket though. They are $0.49 and are huge especially the chocolate cream donuts and they get marked down to $0.30 later in the day

KK vs. DD vs. Local Bakeries

If Fresh = Local Bakeries, hands down.
If Price = Local Supermarket Bakeries, hands down. DD comes close second.
If Texture (Yeast) = Tie between Bakeries/DD, ~maybe~ KK if unglazed & fresh.
If Texture (Cake) = Bakeries definitely, DD close second only if fresh.

I just lament that outside of home it seems the independent bakeries disappear in favor for those in supermarkets. Problem is that the ones around here, while tasty, are nowhere near as robust or as...interesting.

Dunkin Donuts. Now let me think when was the last time I even had a donut of any shape or form.............3 years???....idk.....Dunkin Donuts is my vote.
NONE OF THE TWO WIN..

TIM HORTONS FTW!!!!
Agreed. Only drawback is that, since I don't live in Canada, the closest one is about an hour away.

I honestly don't eat dohnuts (saw this video years ago on the creation process...not a huge fan) but I will say the muffins and cookies from Dunkin are fantastic.

I heard about a place called Doughnut Plant. I think they have a few locations around Tokyo. Have you tried it, and is it any good?

I can't believe this is a close poll. Have the people voting for DD never had a Krispy Kreme?

In my experience the stuff at DD has always been sitting out for a while. They aren't awful, just not worth the calories.

K Lemon - There was (maybe still is?) a Mr. Donut chain in america. Same company? Ah, wiki knows all:
"Mister Donut is a large doughnut franchise. Once an American icon, the franchise now operates mainly in Japan and other Asian markets."
"After the acquisition of Mister Donut by Allied-Lyons, all Mister Donut locations within North America were offered the chance to change their name to Dunkin' Donuts. Now only a scattered few locations still hold the name Mister Donut."

I have a really old coffee mug from there.

DD is more cake donuts and KK are basically all yeast. Poll might simply be coming down to which of those types people prefer. Although I guess you can get both types at DD.

I voted for Dunkin', but neither Dunkin' nor Krispy Kreme is around Berkeley. I go to Dream Fluff, Kingpin, or Donut World.

Heh, the results after I just voted were 63-62, looks like I put DD ahead for now. I have a 24 hour one 3 mins down the road and it's nice to get a bagel sandwich and a coffee at 2 in the morning.

DD for me, the Krispy Kreme around me closed for no reason. I did get tired of KK due to the lack of selection, and now that DD is trans fat free thats icing on the donut.

I used to work at DD, and you couldn't pay me to eat that nasty ass shit.

Their donuts are shipped in, and are at the very least, 24 hours old by the time they get to the store.

KK by a fucking mile. Even if the only donut they had was the glazed, they'd still win.

Krispy Kreme wins, hands down.

I got a thing in the mail today about their "pumpkin spice cake" donuts and I really want to try one. Sounds good.

Wow. This is closer than I thought it would be.

I voted Dunkin. The donuts are more filling, and their coffee rocks my world. Either way, if I eat more than 2 donuts from either place, I'm shitting myself for the next 4 hours.
I haven't had Dnukin' Donuts, so I had to go with Krispy Kreme.
Votes like this shouldn't count.
Bullshit. I could park my car in the airholes in a DD doughnut.
Whatever. At least all the KK are closing haha! Can rely on the better Dunkin Donuts and also get better coffee there and their delicious bacon egg n cheese bagel sandwiches!

Crap, crap, and the worst crap of all. They shouldn't be allowed to call what they serve 'egg'.

Our KKs will never close, and thus I will always be happy.
Theres a reason why you can't throw a rock without hitting a closed down Krispy Kreme in the Boston area. Dunkin Donuts completely murdered them, and is now moving into the midwest.

The donuts are not the main item for any of these chains. Its the coffee. Dunkin had the superior coffee, KK's sucked. Game over.

The ones that make their donuts on site are better, and the ones that get theirs trucked in several times a day, are good. The ones that either get low volume or are far away are the ones that get one delivery in the morning, and the same stale donuts at night. These are usually the hole in the wall locations at train stations, in gas stations, etc.
Replace Dunkin with Tim Horton's and that entire statement covers my response. Only had Dunkins in Montréal and got ill afterwards. As for KK, our company was handling the web presence for Krispy Kreme in Canada and they would drop off trays of donuts every Friday. The reactions went:

Friday - Week 1: "Woohoo! Free donuts! I'm hoarding as many as I can get!"
Friday - Week 2: "Hooray! Free donuts for all!"
Friday - Week 3: "Guys! The donuts are here!"
Friday - Week 4: "I think there's donuts up the front if you want some."
Friday - Week 5: Walks past the stacks of donut boxes *shudder*.

What's funny is, while everyone else is talking about all the KKs that have closed, the opposite is true here, especially in Atlanta. There are a bunch of DD/BR/some ice cream locations that have been closed forever.

Guess the NE likes DD, and the SE likes KK.
long gone:-({|=
Yeah, I used to go there every Sunday morning to pick up a fresh glazed donut :)

After awhile, I just got sick of them though. That being said, Dunkin' Donut's will never get old for me. :D

KK is disgusting, and now that is all we have left around here. How I long for our DD to return.

But since my only options around here are KK, I stopped eating doughnuts.

I would rather buy a box of Hostess doughnuts then bite into a KK.

KK is very strong in the SE. i dont even know if we have a DD locally. KK is growing in the west coast though they were popping up all over oregon and people were going ape shit over them.

I even saw a Krispy Kreme when I was in Australia 2 years ago. My dad had never eaten a donut from there, so we had to stop and get one after dinner.

I love my area, because there are 2 Dunkin Donuts within a 3-minute drive from my house.
