Battlefield 3 (Beta Talk)

beta, demo, either way it made me cancell my preorder. it sucked hard on xbox. Im just glad I played it first. and isnt this game supposed to look awesome? Homefront looks better than this. WTF?
Thanks to threads like these, we'll likely see less open betas in the future - from anyone.

Far too many people think betas are demos.
Or at least we will see less open Betas using Alpha code.

thank you to all the complainers who don't understand much of anything for reaffirming my absolute lack of faith in humanity. May you all die before breeding.

Good lord, chill dude. We have the right to complain. If this is a legitimate beta they did it to make the game better, we are presenting the problems for them to fix. If this is really just a demo them we have the right to complain because the game is crappy. Also, saying you hope we all die before breeding, because of a video game. Grow up.

I would also be interested in knowing what we don't "understand much of anything" about.

I will still be buying the game day one, but this "beta" has really saddened me,

I still have no fear that this game will be the AAA title we all expected it to be. Yes it is an awful beta, yes it was probably not the best marketing to release it three weeks before release, no the final product will (obviously) not be this glitched.

Still a day 1 buy for me, and still very excited!

Why because we disagree with the logic of releasing a build that's advertised as beta when the alpha looked and played the same if not slightly better?
If they didn't want the public to bitch about old Beta code, then they shouldn't have used old Beta code to publically test their servers. It's understandable that it is a Beta and that there will be glitches, but they should've realized that releasing an old, bug filled Beta, regardless of the condition the game is in now, to the public 3 weeks prior to release might taint the image of the final product.

The end of the map is designed like shit and spawns the defenders in an area where if the attackers take over the hotels put them right in line to spawn kill like crazy. The map cut out the uses of some items and makes at least one class less important, not to mention some of the class redesign and unlock system changes I personally don't care for. That's not going to change. I didn't have a problem with the darkness.

I've been a part of the last two BC Betas (and a bunch of others) and I didn't think this one was enjoyable at all, it certainly doesn't show off a sophisticated destruction based engine (I've seen some boxes and trees destroyed), and I will not speak of textures or mapping because as a Beta not all the effects are in place.

It's a Beta, but it also shows that there are some extreme issues with even just this one map (falling through the world geometry) that raise valid concerns, and regardless of bugs the general direction of the game in terms of map design and class kits aren't going to change much between now and the release.

Sure, it's a Beta. They should also realize that putting out old, glitchy code to the public near release is not a good way to sell the game, no matter if the intent is just to stress test. Hopefully they will put out a demo closer to release with a more stable code.
I agree whole heartedly with your post, regardless of what build this actually is and what build they are claiming it is, they made a mistake putting it out then retroactively trying to explain why it's in the condition it is.

Your welcome.

I've been playing on PS3 haven't had any noticeable lag. I have no problems spotting people but have seen a lot of complaints. At level 14 I think it was I unlocked an infrared scope which helps in the subway. Before that I looker for muzzle flashes, lasers, and flashlights. This isn't a game you can run around and shoot and get lucky. Game takes teamwork. I'm keeping my preorder I loved BC2 Im not worried that this game will suck.

I finally installed this and love it. Excited about purchasing a new graphic card just for this game. Sure it has a few glitches, but what game doesn't?

Dark Rider:
The beta was for server testing, not for the game. A demo will be a showcase of the product to entice people to purchase. There will likely be a demo at some point in the near future. Betas and Demos are different creatures.
Maybe you understand it but the majority is very confused.

Hustletron:
See above. Server test, not game test.

My welcome what? Jesus fucking christ it's you're! Again, thank you for reaffirming my utter lack of faith in humanity.

Their, their, you'll get over it.
at least you got the you will correct.
You forgot to capitalize the A in at, which completely invalidates your point.

The beta was dire. If I was interested in the multiplayer in BF3 I would definitely have cancelled my preorder. I'm only buying the game for campaign though, then I'll trade in or sell it, and I have faith that the campaign won't suffer from these issues and will be on the same level of quality as Bad Company 1 and 2.
So did the PC beta blow as hard as it did on console?
Absolutely not, and it was claimed as "Alpha".

Prety sure you've said that a few times now, whether that's true or not remains to be seen, you're claiming like you know the reasoning behind why they released this demo/beta/alpha/test version to the public as well as the actual version and age of it like you know for a fact and as if you were in on the decision making process.

Yeah people can post the "Dev Journals" as if that were fact too, the point is:

1. There are way better, more efficient, more effective, ways to test servers that can give better feedback than opening the flood gates to the masses.
2. These people have lied to us before about their games, what is keeping them from doing that now?
3. Does it really matter what everyone else thinks if you and whoever else are going to buy it anyway?
4. We will see who is right and who is wrong when the game finally releases..........maybe..........and that's a big maybe.

Marketing 101 is to always make your item game look better in the public's eye. You shouldn't release a bad gameplay beta to test connections in the same way you don't release a cake made of dog crap to test the icing.

Just to let you know, I am hoping you are right. As I have said, I will be buying the game no matter (pending the apocalypse). But this beta make the game look bad.
