It's EA. Nothing is limited for them anymore. You are naive if you think they are really going to have a limited run of some sort of collector's edition. Definitely a good idea keeping that $48 in your wallet.[/QUOTE]
The Limited Edition copies will eventually sell out. 1 week, 1 month, 1 year, 2 years,,, no one knows. EA/DICE said that the Limited Edition will give you the extra multiplayer maps at no additional charge. It's up to you to see if you can score the game for less than $48 bucks before the Limited Editions are no longer obtainable. If you wait, you might get the game for $39.99 a year from now, will it be limited edition? Will you pay an additional $10 at that time for the multiplayer maps?
If EA has some smarts about making money, which I'm sure they do, they would be better off limiting the limited edition severely, so they can start making $$$ by selling the 4 extra maps sooner than later. If they flood the market with Limited Editions, enough to last years, they'll never make money off the 4 extra maps.
Bottom line, you're not buying the Limited Edition for a collectors sake, hell, you can't even re-sell the game once you register the key under your email address. Considering they're going to implement BattleLog into the console versions in some way, you will probably receive a CD Key even with the console versions, which will reduce your chance of selling the game after you're done with it. You're buying it for the 4 free multiplayer maps, period.
$48 bucks for this game, will basically be the best deal you'll probably find before release date. If you want to wait, you'll probably be able to pick it up during Black Friday sales for less.
One other thing to keep in mind, if this does not go to STEAM, you can forget picking it up for $10 during a Christmas sale, you'll have to constantly watch Origin and EA's website to get it on some kind of sale, or you'll have to find it on the Target clearance rack. By that time, it wont be the limited edition copy you'll be buying.
