Battlefield 3- Premium announced; 4 new expansions
Ugh I've spent the last two days trying the get the "Butterfly" achievement. Had perfect run throughs on each difficulty but no dice.
Once you get the missile at that jeep, lock on to the jet and WAIT until the gunfire is almost on top of you to fire then immediately duck after firing. Then just wait. The jet will fly around a bit and eventually eat the rocket after about 35 seconds or so.

sniping long distance is much harder in this game compared to bc2.

plus the low draw distance doesn't help.

if you play as defender on operation firestorm, chances are you'll see enemy snipers camping on the hill. most of the time, your bullet falls right on them but they don't die. but then when you get killed, you'll see that the snipers are covered completely by the ground. its just that from the distance, it seems like they're out in the open because the textures of the ground thats protecting them wont load, so they seem completely exposed when they're really not.

holy shit, give me a harrier jet that handles like a chopper and I will start destroying things like Oppenheimer or some shit like this...

Hell yeah! I can't really fly the jets too well. I love playing this game though. It was what I needed to give me that shot in the arm from playing the past few years of COD games.

Anyone got any chopper flying tips? I used to be fairly decent in BC2 and Vietnam, but find myself overturning helis left and right in BF3. I've tried switching to the "Legacy" control scheme and it feels a bit better, but I'm still not tearing it up like I used to. Maybe I just need to join some non-ranked servers and camp out the helipad spawn :)

Easy on the roll with the pitch stick. You really only need to turn with the left stick - yaw - (standard control setup) and pitch forward and backward as needed for speed. The roll (tilting the entire chopper) always manages to get everyone in trouble.

Until you the hang of it try only turning with the left stick and only making strafing runs on your target, then turn around rinse and repeat. Then start adding some roll as needed to make tighter turns. Just remember, if you are rolling left, you'll need to roll back right and stop when you get level.

Thank goodness the circle strafing days of BC2 are over.

Hate to say it, but this game REALLY suffers from being only 24 players on quite few maps (for Conquest mode anyways).

Operation Firestorm, Caspian Border, and Kharg Island are just way too big. Rarely will you see anyone break 10 kills in those maps.

Tehran Highway and Canals are slightly too big, but a bit better.

Operation Metro and Grand Bazaar are nicely sized, but suffer from bottle necking (In Bazaar, you can swing around the outskirts, but by the time you run all the way around and cap a flag, flag on the other side is already taken by the other team, and in Metro, there's the train cars, the outside area by A, but all the fighting usually gravitates between the A and B flags).

Seine Crossing is perfectly sized.

Damavand Peak is way too linear.

I was afraid at first of the 24 player limit being to small however after playing it as much as I have, I love only having 24 players. Sometimes the extra 8 players per team made it a big cluster fuck and makes me feel as if there's just way too many people.

As far as the bottle necking issues you're spot on. Bazaar and the map were you start out on the aircraft carrier (I can't think of the name) are the two maps I have the biggest issues with. Don't get me wrong though, I haven't had a MP game since Counter-Strike in which I like every single map but they definetley need some work.

The only other complaint I have is how strong the choppers and C4 are. I'l sink 3-4 stingers on a chopper it and it barely goes down. I've even hit it with two tank rounds point blank and it not even catch on fire. Then the C4 seems too powerful. I'll get absolutely destroyed while in a tank when someone throws one or two packs of C4 on me.

Side note, here's a link to a new video of Gulf of Oman's new vehicles.

In my opinion its not that the maps are too big, its that players are too disorganized to raise to the challenge. I have played this game a lot since I have had it and there are many times in which a team will successfully take those check points and you can see what they intended. Its just very few and far between.

Whenever you get to one of the bigger maps it usually just causes half the people to snipe on top of rocks with no forward progression at all. Thats why nothing happens in those maps.
Very excited about Karkand!

Does anyone know if you can still find games in the Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion?
I tried just before and just after BF3's release and could only find servers with one or two dudes walking around, even at prime time. Maybe once the glamour of BF3 wears off some die-hard Vietnam players will go back, but because they'll be leveling their BC2 soldier it doesn't seem likely. Pretty sad... man would it be awesome if they could easily create a BF3 version of the expansion.

unlocked everything for the scout chopper!

the guided missile is nice! takes care of those pesky AA whores in Noshahr Canals in rush. i always go after them when i see one now.

If anyone still needs Dr.pepper codes hit me up with a PM.

Edit: that's all I've got for now, thanks for helping me clear my computer desk.

Glad to see those fixes, I've encountered a majority of those. Still hoping that limited flares gets patched in one day.

One thing I wish I'd be able to do is have the ability to link squads together before joining a server. For example, right now I have 5 people including myself that all want to play together. I wish I could separate it into 3 people on one squad, 2 in the other, but still be in a party, per se, you know? Then we could all pop into the same game together. Having more than 4 people want to play at the same time is a pain in the ass. Anyone know of a remedy for it?

No need for flares once you unlock extinguisher. They need to limit the tank mines in some way. Hopefully with the ability to spot explosives this won't be quite as annoying

I have that problem sometimes the only thing is to join a friends game. Try to pick a server that is partially empty.

That's really a shame as I enjoyed the Vietnam expansion. After playing the same BC2 maps for months and months I actually enjoyed it more than the main game. I tried it last a few weeks before BF3 even came out and the best we could do was 7-8 players per side on one map. I'd love them to integrate at least Vietnam into BF3, similar to what Zen did with the original Pinball FX.

Also, I'm very interested in the changes done to mines. Has anyone seen what it is like exactly to spot them now? Would the proximity upgrade automatically spot them? Do they still look the same on the ground until you press the spot button? If so, that's still going to make them tough to find and I bet a lot of people won't even know you can do it now. Additionally, how would the indicator work once spotted? The entire spotting mechanic was changed so much in this game where you have to keep looking at what's spotted to get it to stay lit up, which I still don't really like. Would that work for mines, too? If so, there's no way anyone will pay attention to it.

Just played a round of Rush on Metro, defending, and they took out both M-COMs with 0 tickets left. I was irritated but persevered...and then they took out the second set of M-COMs with 0 tickets left again. That's really the first time I've ever rage quit in a game before.

Is the Javelin the only rocket launcher that can lock onto both ground and air vehicles? I hate that I can't lock onto ground vehicles at the moment.

In case anyone else is a slow reader like myself and hadn't noticed what the Karkland maps will consist of, they are all remastered maps from previous Battlefield games:

1. Strike at Karkland
2. Wake Island
3. Gulf of Oman
4. Sharqi Peninsula

I personally didn't start playing Battlefield until 1943 on xbla, but Wake Island is ridiculously good. Can't wait to play this with the Abrams.

The Javelin doesn't lock onto aircraft? Crap, I guess I just can't win with that, bleh.

I've played every Battlefield game to date so far, looking forward to Wake Island in the pack the most. Glad to see. :)

Wait till you play Gulf of Oman, that map is fucking amazing. One of my top 5 multiplayer maps of all time.

did the G363C (or whatever it's called) get a damage increase or something? I was getting slaughtered by one of those the other night. It's the engineer gun after the Scar which seems to do less damage now.
They ruined Wake Island. BF1943 has 5 flags but this one has 3? What the fuck?
Wow, just noticed that. That really sucks.

The other vids seem to be from the PC since they were uploaded by EA themselves, and there are LOTS of flags on those maps.

Kinda going back to what I said earlier in the thread, I think this game suffers from too little of a player count. Karkand was too small for 64 players, but too big for 32 on PC...cant imagine how the entire map won't turn into a merry go round with 24, unless they reduce the map size like in BF2.

I've come to hate Tehran Highway now, I'm not sure if it's a glitch or what but everyone just picks Recon and is somehow able to get on top of the actual highway above the normal map. There's an invisible wall where they stand, so you can't shoot them but they can shoot you. Absolute bullshit.

Sounds like what people used to do in de_dust on Counter-Strike. Fortunately I haven't seen it on BF3...yet. However I'm sure in the next week or so more people will catch on.

I would assume that they put a spawn beacon around that area and parachute in on the bridge?

Don't know if it still works, but you can ride a Recon's MAV up to the bridge, I'm assuming it still works if people are still running into it.

Hey question for you guys. May seem really noob but I've played Damavand Peak quite a few times but never came across the base jumping spot I've seen in all the videos. I assume it was just on the pc versions seeing as they handle larger sizes but thought I'd ask.

Pretty sure it's only when playing that map on Rush.

Yup. Don't really like playing Rush mode due to 90% of people sniping but unfortunately this is the only mode that offers the base jumping. Insanely epic though when you do it for the first time. Can't believe it hasn't been in a game before.

Is it true that if you get a dogtag 5 times that you don't have via a knife kill, you actually get that dogtag? Not sure if that's fact or just a rumor that I saw. The only dogtag that i've gotten 5 times from a knife kill was a dogtag I already have. :(

Speaking of that, I absolutely love knifing people. Feels good. :)

 I love the knife animation/s..

You should check out the Aliens vs Predator game :)

Not sure about the 5x dog tag thing.

**Rage post incoming**

For the love of all that is holy. If they don't patch this fucking bullshit when you and you're squad spawn on a different teamS I'm going to go apeshit. I have no idea how a developer would go "Oh hey, here's two people who obviously want to play together...let's go ahead and put them on separate teams". Happened to me 3 times before the game finally got it right.

Just seems to be a matter of which server you join, having 2 people and joining pretty much any 22/24 server is going to put you on different teams. Very, very annoying. Try using Quick Match to find your matches when in a group, I haven't had any problems with that so far.

This.

Or find a game with about 15-18 people in it. You are guaranteed to get on the same team.

Most of the people that gripe about this ... the problem is simple: user error.

just got my copy in from GameStop, got it on sale for $40 (wasnt gonna get at first but getting LOTR + FEAR 2 + tshirt for $20 ...essentially getting all for $60 was too good to pass up). and i was surprised to find out its actually the LE edition with free dlc. gonna start playing soon

I don't know why I have to go through more hoops just because I have a friend with me. The games matchmaking should find an appropriate match for me. Call of Duty, Halo, Crysis 2, TFC, etc all had party options yet I've never been put on different teams like in BF3. I'm not saying it's game breaking or anything, however it is an inconvenient oversight by the developers that is effecting a decent amount of people playing online.

"user error" psh....

Definitely inconvenient, don't understand why they couldn't put this in either.

I also find that games I join from the server browser tend to never fill up.
