BB Reward Zone for Gamers: Any game $20

kev

CAGiversary!
I just got a CD thing yesterday from Best Buy saying they are offering a new "expansion pak" to their Reward Zone program. It's still $9.99 but you can add this on to get:

-Some random newsletter with reviews/cheat/etc.
-$50 in coupons
-Any game for $19.99 during the month of your birthday

I've never been interested in the RZ but shoot, now I am. I just wish I had a November birthday... October is plenty fine but you lucky November dudes get all the love. You have to sign up for it in-store and then go to www.myrewardzone.com to add the expansion pak (which seems to cost nothing...)

The CD also has coupons for $10 off Half-life 2, Doom 3 and a couple other big PC titles.

FYI, I couldn't decide where it was most appropriate to post this... It's a game deal to me so I put it here...
yeah-yeah: Where are you located? Are you in CA, where it appears they test a lot of their programs?
And even if you're not [this part goes to everybody], it's possible BB only 'allows' certain RZ members to try it out, as part of a nationwide pilot before full rollout. Hence why most of us can't see it.
Virginia. I was also part of the pilot for the reward zone and one of the bastards responsible for BB changing the reward zone rewards from 4.5% to 4%. Sorry about that.

Wwwwise fwom youw gwaaave!
I am just a little pissed that I just signed up for an RZ card about a month ago. Anyone have any solid details on how to get this? By that I mean has anyone who wasn't solicited for it gotten it yet?

Okay, sounds like you're in a pilot area. I'll keep an eye out for it, hoping.

How and why are you 'responsible' for their changing the rewards? When I got that notice that they were changing the point value required to get a cert, and they phrased it like "Due to customer feedback we are increasing the points required", I was like, "Who in the HELL would say, "Yes, make me pay for a membership, and I thought you were giving me too many gift certificates, please raise the amount I need to spend before ever seeing any return."?"

How did they ask that? I'm assuming it was a loaded question, something like, "Would you rather we cancel the RZ program, or raise the points required?"

The game has to be *released* during your birth month? Or will it work for any game (like Paper Mario 2)?

I can see this as a good way to build up a collection very, very fast.

I was making a joke. I think I got something like 130 dollars in RZ certs that first year. I got something in the mail saying that all the RZ participants had combined for some absurd amount (one BEEEEEELYON dollars) in reward zone certs the first year, so it wasn't a surprise when they reduced the reward percentage. I was just one of many that helped them make that decision.

Oh.
Yeah.
Of course, one billion dollars in certs, at what, 4.5-5% of total purchase price not counting bonus point offers, still equates to "a whole lotta revenue." It was just "Wow, we never expected this program to be this successful" which of course is the wrong way to go about it [a better way would be to start it at 3%, then kick it up as a 'bonus'.]

Christ, you are stupid.
just received one of the pamphlets today from some guy in the games department at best buy
Did you ask about them or did they offer the pamphlets to you? See any around that you could just take?

Could someone clarify again, do you actually pay for this add-on and how much?

My RZ card expires this month. They've been spamming my mailbox and asking me to renew whenever I buy something at their B&M store since May. I'm not gonna renew since all this harrassment is just not worth the money I'm supposedly saving.

I'd rather shop at a non-Devil store like Fry's instead. :p

Ok, here's the deal. I was in BB today to pick up Reno 911 s2 and Dead Like Me s2. I was looking for SW Battlefront (ps2) without any luck. I asked a guy there if he knew if they had any in the back. He checked on the computer and said they were all sold out. As I was getting ready to walk away, he asked if I heard of the "Expanded Reward Zone for Games." To which I said, "no." He then gave me a pamphlet while telling me the benefits of it. It's a blue tri-fold pamphlet that was just sitting near one of the employee computers.

So... either it's a great deal, or there is absolutely no deal at all.

All in all, it's free if you have a RZ membership. They send you coupons and other gaming shit. On top of that, you get a free GH/PC/PH game on your birthday.

I still can't find where to sign up for it on the RZ website. I e-mailed them about it and should receive a response within 24 hours.

Thanks for the details, doesn't look like it's started in my area yet at least I'll know what to look out for. :)

fuck, man.

Saw the title of thread and was about to go apeshit. Bday next month and w/no price breaks on Killer 7 anywhere since release, the thought of it being $19.99 would be pretty damn cool.

So I guess you receive a coupon for any GH/PC/PH to be $19.99. ... Nice.

OK, with the way it was written, it sounded like we got the golden opportunity to buy a GH/PH (19.99) game for the grand savings of...$0.

So it's 'Get a PH/GH for free' deal? Not bad. Not great, but it's a free game. Just wish I could get some info on it in my area.

Or they could apply $19.99 savings towards an item. Same difference.

Wonder if you bought a game they have one of and then returned it and since they'd have no copies left, they would have to give you $20 store credit. I dunno...

Definitely a location-specific beta. If you've got it, don't take too much advantage of it, we want it to roll out to everyone.
A free GH game doesnt' sound bad to me, if you already have a RZ membership. If you don't have one, it's like getting a GH for ten bucks, and everything else is gravy.

saetia: Doubtful. They probably treat it like the free dvd players or whatnot they give away when you buy a tv, if you return that, it's a 'promo' and you don't get full credit for it.

I need to look into this one more since my RZ just started recently... although I still don't see the "gamers expansion pak" anywhere on the website.

My RZ membership ends a month before my birthday so that kind of blows.

BB is testing a new gaming initiative. They are trying to compete w/ EB games and Gamestop by offering BB gift certificates for used games. I don’t know how competitive their trade-in values are but the used video game prices seemed to be in line with GS and EB. One of the two or three stores that are testing this initiative is the Riverside, CA store off of Tyler. At these stores they have a slightly larger video game selection, and quite a few gaming stations. The gaming area has several lazy-boy type chairs in front of large TVs; several stand up console stations and several PC stations as well. There was also a sign offering a ‘test drive’ of any game before you buy. From what I’ve gathered, the offer to upgrade your current Reward Zone membership will only appear online if you started your membership in one of the flagship stores like Riverside. The details of the gamer’s upgrade were posted in Dropout’s post. If you can make it into one of the flagship stores, you can start a new reward zone membership and add the gamer’s upgrade to the account. The coupons you receive are good at any BB from what I’ve been told and you also get a spiffy sticker to put on your card. The sicker is simply a platinum circle with a triangle pointing to the right in the center. Hope this post makes sense; I’m half asleep right now. Good luck and good night.

Oh, and I don’t remember which stores are the other flagships. This info took me over a month to put together, but I won't bore you w/ the details.
