BB - Upgrade & Save part 2

Awesome. I have a ton of DVDs that I'd be lucky to make a buck on selling on eBay. I plan on taking advantage of this big time.

I'd definitely be in for the Friday the 13th films as well as the Die Hard movies, but only if I could get them at the sale price they're at right now. I have a feeling once the B&S starts the prices might go up a little bit. Then again there was a decent selection of $5 films last time.

Ooh, a number of good titles on that list. I wish we knew whether these prices are going to hold into the sale -- I'd cancel my Amazon pre-order of Pulp Fiction if I was sure that it was going to be $11.99 after coupon here.

Is there a limit to the number of coupons you can get at one time? Is there a limit to the number of coupons you can use at one time? Do the trade-in DVDs have to have a case and cover art or can they be disc only?

Sorry for all the questions. I never participated in the first sale. Is there a link to the thread to the first sale still available? I might be able to find some answers there.

This is the link for the last one but it will explain it all

In essence, yes it has to have case and artwork, and you can only use one coupon per blu-ray that you buy. Each coupon is good for 5 dollars off of ONE blu-ray and cannot be combined on the same one.

Ohh, nice. It looks like if you have 4 dvd's to bring in you can get the whole Die hard collection for 20 bucks, same price as the now dead Walmart deal, only in their own cases which I prefer honestly.

Last time, you could get and use as many as five coupons (one per blu-ray being purchased) at a time. They were pretty liberal about it (at least here), though -- "at a time" meant that you could do five, go out to your car, and come back in with five more and they really didn't care. That will probably vary based on the particular employees that you deal with. Regardless, you can trade in as many titles as you want, you just might have to do it over multiple trips.

I believe that they did require that DVDs have a case and cover art, though I didn't actually try to trade in anything without them, so I can't say for sure.

Of course, that's what they did last time, and they could well make some changes this time based on their experiences from that...

The 1st sale had a limit of 5 dvd trade in per transaction. But no way to track, so you could just bring in 5 more another time.

If prices hold, I count 10 :br: I'd get. Definitely looking better that the 4 I got last time. I'll be looking forward to this!

Ok, but is the 4th movie the unrated version?

A heads up warning: Rental cases won't work. They check the inside left cover, and Blockbuster has a faint stamp there.

It's the retail version so I don't know if it's unrated. I didn't think they ever released an unrated one with the motherfucker put back in.

Some pretty high $ titles on that list. Plus they have "Zookeeper" and "Bad Teacher"? They're not even out yet!

Lets see.......I'd be interested in:

Friday the 13th part 2
Friday the 13th part 3
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
BoonDock Saints
Top Gun

Possibly:

Speed
Twister
Tropic Thunder
Grindhouse

Wish I hadnt bought the Die Hard collection now. Would prefer them individually. Ah well.

I might have to take advantage of this again, since the last time they offered it, I wasn't able to hit a BB to take advantage of it.

To refresh my memory, are the upgrade coupons you get for $5 usable on any title, or just the titles listed at the link in the OP?

It's just a specific list of titles. I would hesitate to say just the ones linked in the OP since the sale isn't even active yet and the titles could change. Since there are some titles on there that aren't even out yet (like Bad Teacher), I would imagine either the list is going to change or the sale won't start until after those movies get released.

Problem I have with that list is that most of those titles have been cheaper without the $5 off coupon, either at BB, Amazon or elsewhere.

Rental cases? Last time I was able to trade in some movies from my friend who got them from Blockbuster's previously viewed selection. They were in standard rental cases but with the cover artwork.

Keep in mind that the prices listed are before the coupon. That being said, yeah, for the more expensive titles, there are better deals to be had. The real deals of this sale are the titles that will be between $5 and $10 after the coupon.

So Law Abiding Citizen is on sale for $9.99, will I be able to use the $5.00 coupon and get it for $4.99?? I too never participated in the first sale so I'm clueless.

Also, can I trade in any DVD and get any Blu-ray movie from that list or do I have have to trade the DVD copy of a movie and upgrade to the Blu-ray version of that movie that I traded in the DVD for??

Sorry if I sound confusing...

Yup, that's correct. Keep in mind, though, that this is assuming that the prices don't change between now and then. Last time, prices on some items changed even while the sale was going on.

Yup, you can trade in any DVD, and you'll get a coupon that can be used toward any blu-ray on the list. One of the times that I did a trade-in last time, I got a customer service rep who didn't know how to handle the offer, so she called over a manager to assist her. The manager told her that they were to take "any DVDs except porn." So if you're thinking of trading in your porn collection you should look elsewhere, but otherwise you should be good. ;)

Thanks to everyone who answered all my questions. I'll have to work on rounding up the dvds I'm going to trade in.

Thats false advertising man. I was planning to trade in my copy of "Brazilian Bubble Butts 14" to get Law Abiding Citizen for $4.99. ;)

I never watched parts 1 through 13, so I could never follow the plot. Even after watching it 532 times, I still don't know what's happening in that film. ;)

I hear Michael Bay did all the CGI in it.

So wait, do you get the value of the DVD and a coupon to use? If that's the case, I'll just use some of the lowest trading DVDs I would have sent to Amazon instead. Seems odd to call it an upgrade program if you're not getting the same thing, ha.

No bud, you bring in dvd in it's case with the cover art and then they give you a $5 off coupon to use on blu's/dvd's. You don't get the value of the DVD like you do at Amazon.

DVD does not have to have a UPC code, correct?

I recall last time the only thing that was scanned was the actual coupon. They just made sure the dvd had a case.
So we don't know when this starts then? I keep getting bad request clicking the banner.
According to blu-ray.com it starts 10/9.

Considering that most of the DVDs that I looked up on Amazon had a trade-in value of between 25 cents and a dollar, this is definitely a better deal. If, that is, you want any of the blu-rays on the list, of course.

That's what I kind of figured, but the wording left it open a bit. Works for me since I have a few I can dump for coupons that aren't on Amazon.
Rental cases? Last time I was able to trade in some movies from my friend who got them from Blockbuster's previously viewed selection. They were in standard rental cases but with the cover artwork.
Going off personal experience here. I brought in 5 of my old DVDs, and the lady wouldn't take the Blockbuster one, because it had the Blockbuster logo in the inside of the case. It had original cover art intact and all. You wouldn't know it was a "previously viewed" by looking at it.

My 5th pick was Donnie Darko, so lucky I found it $5 elsewhere w/o having to trade in a DVD.

Well since Best Buy has those numbers in the search on the link it looks like they will start the sale on Sunday 10/2/2011? {arcane93 is a mathematician and figured it out ;) }(YEAR/MONTH/DATE). Which is interesting since it was not in this weeks ad...

This deal is in the ad next week (10/9) . I was looking at it yesterday.

20111002 is October 2, 2011 (2011/10/02). ;) Presumably that number must just be when the info was posted to the site, since the sale hasn't started yet.

Heh. I don't think it's live yet -- I was in two stores here yesterday and didn't see anything about it in either. I'd assume it goes live on Sunday.

I like this program, got a few today, might get a few more later. Picked up

Office Space - $5
True Grit - $5
Boondock Saints - $5
The Town - $10
First Class - $15

It's worth noting that Boondock Saints is cheaper than printed in their ad.

This deal was killer the first time around when you could get a lot of the movies for $5-10 after coupon that had Movie Cash on them! I usually never go, but if I can pay basically the same price (or less) than a regular ticket, and get a blu-ray movie, then why not??

Had a really good experience at my BB, surprisingly so. Found everything I wanted except for one movie, the system said they had three in stock, but they couldn't find it. Went to CS and asked if there was a way to have one sent to the store so I could buy it with one of the trade-in coupons.

The girl placed an order for $12.50 ($2.50 shipping), added it to my purchase of Ferris Bueller, The Last Starfighter, and Terminator Salvation. She then removed the shipping charge and since it was considered an in store purchase I was able to use the $5 coupon on it (making it $5).

So when it comes in to my store in the next week or so I am possibly going to pick up Robocop if it's still there, if not not a huge deal since it wasn't a big movie for me to get.

It's funny that you say that cause last time I personally switched all the DVD cases on the ones I was trading in to the Blockbuster cases, one of which even said rental on the front cover-art that I had bought used, and they took them no problem. Might be a YMMV situation, cause are they reselling these or recycling or what I never really knew.

Same with Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's advertised at $14.99 before coupon and $9.99 after coupon but its actually $9.99 before coupon so with coupon its only $4.99.
