BB - Upgrade & Save part 2

Are there any BD+DVD items on that list or the full one other than The Book of Eli, ones that don't explicitly state that they're BD+DVD? I rarely buy Blurays by themselves, preferring the combo packs that also have the DVD version.
is this the new or old true grit
New one.

So is this working on the full list in the link or just the ones people have listed from the ad?

The full list in the link.

Did this today. There's a big (at the location i was at anyway) stand with all the upgrade and save blu's right by the blu-rays so you don't have to search for them. No one there knew how the program worked so don't go if you're in a hurry.

Got:
Grindhouse $10
Scott Pilgrum Vs The World $10
True Grit $5
Dawn of the Dead $5

Not a bad deal. Will probably go back and grab some more, as I have many more DVDs in a box I don't need to keep around anymore.

I used to work at the BBY that I hit up today, and they didn't know the promotion was back on (and they did not receive any coupons). Anyway...guy was nice enough to simply make me 5 photocopies of the coupon which scanned no problem. So, yeah....

I went for:

True Grit (2010)..............$4.99
Straw Dogs....................$4.99
Friday the 13th Part 3.....$4.99

Really wanted to get some of those Miramax titiles, but I assume I'll be able to get those at 9.99 down the road anyway.

I was all over this yesterday! Something I noticed was the DVDs I traded did not have to be the same as what I was buying. Example is I traded ferris Bueller but didn't buy the blu ray version. Ymmv on this but I wish I would have known.

This is pretty well documented. It's anything with a UPC. They're just recycling the DVD's.

I traded in former Blockbuster rentals (changed the cases, though, just in case) of Mr. Deeds and Dawn of the Dead (I had two copies...love this movie, though) and picked up X-Men First Class for $14.99 and the Punisher: War Zone 2-Disc Edition for $4.99. I hope this deal lasts a couple of weeks and they add Captain America to the list of Blus you can get.

So you can use multiple coupons per blu-ray? I know you're limited to 5 coupons per visit, but I didn't know you could use 2 or 3 on a single blu-ray movie. That's the only way to get True Grit for $5, right?

You can not use multiple coupons on the single bluray. True Grift is on sale for $9.99 and with using the coupon, the price is down to $5.

The price on True Grit went back up to $19.99 actually. If you can find a sign still up in your store you can get them to adjust it but that will kick off the $5 upgrade coupon so basically you'll have to get them to manually adjust it down to $4.99. I can tell you it wasn't easy at the store I went to but I did eventually get it for $4.99.

My BB had a sign up at customer service, and a full display of eligible titles all set up. But the customer service took almost 40 minutes to complete the transaction. Got 5 $5 :br:, but now debating going back for Die Hard movies.

Fan of this deal, great way to get rid of DVDs w/o feeling ripped off.
friday the 13th 3 was 14.99 at mine.
Yeah I ran into this same problem today as well. If you had the copy that comes with Paranormal Activity movie cash that is the one that is ringing up for $14.99, because it has a different SkU number on it. The one without the movie cash still rings up at $9.99.

Watch out for the Best Buy trade-in promo being honored, everybody, as the employees are dangerously clueless. I got what I wanted after a thirty minute fandango.

They refused to give me the coupons at first, because they knew nothing about the promo and were trying to screw me over with the wording. First, it was select DVDs only for trade, I pointed to the ad with the word, "any". They were even gonna try to imply that I had adult titles. They didn't even have the stand with the Blu-ray selection up. Best Buy is gonna go under one of these days.

My store was totally prepared the first time. They had a display, all the eligible Blu-rays had stickers on them, the whole works. This time they had nothing anywhere stating anything about it. But fortunately their employees did know what it was, even if it took them a while to read up on it. The horror stories I've read are amazing.

The BB I went to this weekend was clueless. They had a sign by the Customer Service area that I had to point to and I told them I wanted to trade in 5 DVDs. I asked them if I were to get 5 coupons. The girl behind the customer service desk said no, that I had to pick 5 Blu-rays now and they had to have the yellow upgrade stickers on them. I looked around the store and saw only 1 Blu-ray with a sticker on them and had to show them via their website that many titles were eligible. I selected 5 blu-rays and the girl kept saying she couldn't get $5 to take off on any of the titles. When she called over the manager, the manager was equally clueless saying since they were on sale, the $5 wouldn't come off. I asked him why anyone would trade anything in then if the sale price would always be less than the msrp price - the $5 trade-in. He just said "I guess they wouldn't.". Left the store empty-handed, wasting over an hour at their store. Probably will try another store, hopefully with employees who are not equally clueless but I'm not getting my hopes up.

It's a wonder with all the promotions BB is running to attract customers, that their employees are so ill-prepared for them or even have an idea what they are from week to week.

I called ahead to make sure everything was good for the sale before I went. When I arrived and went in there were four people at customer service, I showed them my DVDs and told them what I wanted to do. Not one of them had any idea what the promotion was and called a manager who luckily knew and taught them how to do everything. The stand was set up with all the titles, but I didn't see any stickers on any of them. The cashier didn't know how it worked either and just let me walk her through the transaction.

Not too bad of an experience compared to the one above but seriously best buy needs to make sure their stores are ready for big promotions like this!

Wow, I can't believe how smooth the process was. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE WITH MY BB? Found tons of movies in stock and stickered, took my single DVD up, they scanned the coupon, and they didn't even check to see if anything was inside lol. Got Jarhead for $5. Incredible deal, I'll have to price compare on some other stuff I was somewhat interested in.

If anyone is interested, a ton of HBO titles suddenly appeared on the Upgrade & Save list online today -- The Sopranos, Hung, John Adams, Generation Kill, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, True Blood, Rome, Entourage, etc.

Just got back from my local BB, having never done this before and seeing on here that some stores are unprepared, I was surprised how smoothly it all went. The employee at the front stickered my trade-ins and sent me to customer service, had my coupons in 2 minutes. Picked up Ft13th 1-3, Halloween, and Straw Dogs for $25. Really great deal, better than taking the crap I had to Movie Stop for $.50. :)

Had better luck at the 2nd BB I visited. After first being directed by Customer Service to the videogame area to try to trade in my DVDs only to have the videogame guy come back with me to the Customer Service desk to tell them they're the ones handling it, a manager came out that had the Upgrade coupons. Once again, they did have me pick out my 5 Blu-rays first and, with the exception of not being able to get True Grit for $9.99 anymore (jeez, I really wanted that one), was able to get everything else I wanted.

Brought in 5 DVDs this afternoon. Had Marvel Fantastic 4 Digital comic as one of them. No UPC on that, but they didn't care.
Had issue with True Grit and Forrest Gump though. True Grit was ringing up $19.99 as expected, but the $10 tags were still up. They honored that. Then FG rang up $14.99 as tagged, but the movie itself had a $10 sticker on it...so they honored that. But then the $5 upgrade coupon didn't work. They tried to explain it away by saying they weren't on the list, then by saying it was on sale(I said pretty much every movie is on sale from this promo and the other 3 movies worked).
No one was knowledgeable enough to just say its because they had their price overridden already. I still bought them, though. Quick call to RZ Premiere support got me 750 pts, so worked for me.

Wound up with the TG, FG, Friday 13th, Straw Dogs and Ferris B.
Might have to go back for Office Space, Tropic Thunder, and maybe Halloween.

It looks like there was a few other titles added as well. I noticed Big and Terminator (1) as well as a few more Disney titles I don't think were on the list before.

I took in some crappy DVDs that I had grabbed out of a four-for-a-dollar bin at Suncoast years ago because it amused me. These titles were proof that even 25 cents is too much to pay for some DVDs. The guy at customer service didn't have any idea what was going on with the trade-in offer, but fortunately he was able to get a manager to help him (man, from all the problems people have been having, you'd think they hadn't just done this a few months ago...). For some reason she had him check to see that the DVDs weren't scratched (first I'd seen them do that), but then told him to put them in the bin for "recycling". I hope they plan on recycling them, because they're going to have a hard time doing much else with those steaming piles of crap!

Grabbed Trainspotting, Mimic, The Last Starfighter, and Straw Dogs. Will probably go back for more at some point.

Big and Terminator were definitely on the list from the beginning--I only know because I bought them the first day of the offer. The only additions are the Disney titles and the TV titles.

Bought 5 today (wish I could have done more).

Halloween
Straw Dogs
Friday the 13th part 2
Friday the 13th part 3
Ferris Bueller's Day off.

A word of advice when buying any of the three Friday the 13th blu rays... Buy the ones that DO NOT have the Paranormal Activity 2 Movie Cash sticker. The ones with the Movie Tickets ring up as $14.99 and are a different SKU than the $9.99 versions. You could probably get the customer service person to price match the $9.99 website prices, but save the hassle if you can. I didn't know about this until I read it on the highdefdigest forums.

That's funny. The DVDs that I traded in I bought years ago at Gamestop when they had their Buy 2, Get 4 DVDs promotion. The ones I bought were $1.99, so I guess it was 6 DVDs for $3.98. In addition I had the "EDGE" card discount on top of that. I'm happy to get rid of them. I had them sitting in a grocery store bag in my spare bedroom. I had to find new DVD cases because I got rid of the old gamestop cases they were in. The Gamestop cases were disgusting, sticky, slimy with grime, and covered with stickers upon stickers.

I'll have to go back for Mimic. I didn't know that it was a Guerrimo Del Toro film. The Last Starfighter is also on my list if I go back and get rid of some more of these crap Gamestop DVDs I have.

has anyone had a problem trading in a dvd that has those old cardboard cases with the plastic lock on the side? (hope someone knows what im saying)

You're talking about the Warner Bros. snapper cases, right? No problem whatsoever. I traded in 3 of those on Sunday.

yeah, just making sure. someone on bluray's forum had issues apparently. then again there were a ton of issues early this week. hopefully by saturday it is an easier process.
No one was knowledgeable enough to just say its because they had their price overridden already. My favorite was when some bitch was refusing a MFR coupon saying it doesn't work on sale items. I told her that everything in the store was on sale to which she quipped not everything. I told her I found that VERY hard to believe and laughed my way to CS where they took it no problem.

traded in 5. they were so busy at CS, one girl was braiding anothers hair lol. the girl that waited on me didnt know about the tradein but coworker did, she checked my dvds for scratches (i always keep them perfect) and they asked if i was gonna buy something that day. i said I wasnt sure so got coupons. I did get 5 blurays w the coupons. Straw dogs, Blues Bro, Animal House, Old School, Conan. My friend traded in 6 wo problems

Love the KISS figures in your pics. Maybe I should post my haul with my KISS figures, too ;). Now when will they release the KISSology series on bluray? I'd be all over that.

So I made my second all yesterday. Traded in four more crappy DVDs and picked up Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Live Free or Die Hard. Yeah, I think I like the Die Hard movies. Added to my haul from a couple days ago (Punisher War Zone and X-Men First Class), and I am a happy camper. $40 for six blurays.
Was Donnie Darko still $10? With this promo and the MFR coupon, you could get this for $2! o_O
It was still $10 last night when I was there. I think tomorrow I will pick up Donnie Darko with my last crap DVD trade-in if the MFR coupon will work. I know it should, since it's a MFR coupon, but we all know how Best Buy is.

Got everything i want that's currently $9.99 before coupon. Hopefully in the 2 weeks left of sale, more will drop to that range.

I hope the BBs in my area stickered the Donnie Darko anniversary release. IIRC, the single disc was supposed to be the one available for this special.
I thought True Grit was $10? Now its $20. It was $10 like 2 days ago! What gives? Price error?
If your store still has the $9.99 price label out, you can get them to honor the price. Regardless, it's no longer eligible as one of the Upgrade2Save titles. I had it in my hands the first day of the promotion but had to miss out on it because a clueless cs rep and manager just couldn't get the deal to go through.

Does it matter what dvd you trade in? Like does it have to be a specific movie or can be any old dvd say random anime dvds you have laying around :O

Any DVD that has original packaging/barcode and is not porn should be good to go! Some people reported DVDs in rental cases, even if they have the full artwork, are not accepted.

It all depends who is taking the movies - I had luck with them accepting a Fantastic 4 digital comic DVD that had no UPC(originally came with figure BBY sold themselves)

Went to my closest BB and tried to get the Anniversary edition of Donnie Darko with a $5 coupon but got turned down. Guess I'll have to try another store and maybe get lucky they mislabel it.

Picked up 11 movies via 3 different transactions at 2 different locations. Thing I found interesting is the two stores handled the trade-in differently. The first store scanned each DVD to get the coupons to print-out a receipt. The second store put in some generic UPC and didn't touch the DVDs at all. Regardless, both stores took some DVDs I had imported from China/Korea/Japan, so they either didn't notice or didn't care which was nice since I was prepared to argue the definition of ANY DVD.

Overall both stores got the job done without many complaints although the second store (Harrison St in SF) was a little on the slow side since only one person apparently knew how to do it).
