BB - Upgrade & Save part 2
Does it matter what dvd you trade in? Like does it have to be a specific movie or can be any old dvd say random anime dvds you have laying around :O
YMMV, but you can basically get away with trading in anything, besides it's not as if you're ripping them off - you're getting a freaking $5 off certain Blus coupon and helping Best Buy move inventory.

The first time around, I had a bunch of old "Best Buy Exclusive" "The Making of" 300 and other promo discs that I got for free or a penny. They wouldn't take them since most were in paper/cardboard sleeves (although these were commercial DVDs and with their original artwork), so I just grabbed any old/broken/crap DVD cases, printed or copied the original artwork inserts for the actual movies the promo discs were for, and then they took them no problem.

Over the course of the initial run of the program, I think I traded in something like a half dozen "Best Buy Exclusive The Making Of 300" DVDs in cases with reprints of the 300 DVD case insert, also some free crap discs for the making of Man on Fire, Stealth, Sky Captain, Minority Report, Tomb Raider, and some Bond promo VCDs.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they take bootleg VCDs/DVDs from Asia or street swap meets, with reprints of the actual DVD case insert artwork

Brought in 2 dvds I found laying around and got both Avatar The Extended Collectors Edition and X-Men First Class for $14.99 each after trade-on.

Though I'm not happy with Best Buy and all the stickers on them. Got the easier ones off but the price stickers are hard to get off without leaving marks =(

God, my experience at Best Buy today was awful. No one in the store knew what they were doing. They brought in like 10 people for my transaction. I guess I was the only person doing the upgrade deal this whole week, yet they were low on a lot of the titles, so maybe I wasn't..........? But I dont see how they could have been so clueless when they ran the program before. I even told them that. They ran the $5 off sku for each bluray I brought up. Had 6 blurays and 6 dvds...I know you are only supposed to do 5, but this wasn't the problem. They couldn't get it to show the $5 off the first title they rang up. They then tried telling me none of the titles I brought up were part of the trade in deal since none of them had the Trade and Save stickers on them. I basically told them half their inventory didnt have the stickers yet they are part of the deal. So they printed off a list of the eligible titles and looked them up one by one. After seeing they were all eligible, the cashier called various people. Apparantly this store's systems weren't updated for the Trade and Save so they had to manually deduct $5 off each title. This whole process took well over an hour, but in the end I got 6 titles I wanted, well 5 I wanted and one kinda wanted. Wanted Boondock Saints but couldn't find it, so I got Mrs. Doubtfire. Anyways, got these 6 titles, along with the last steelbook of Green Lantern. :)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Friday the 13th Part 2
Friday the 13th Part 3
Grindhouse
Straw Dogs
Mrs. Doubtfire

I bought another 5 movies today:

The Last starfighter
Mrs. Doubtfire
Cast Away
Rob Roy
Planet of the Apes

I also watched Straw Dogs last night. Holy hell that was a good movie. It was very disturbing and even pretty violent by todays standards. I really liked it and I already feel like it was worth the $5 I spent.

This was a successful Best Buy experience today because the customer service person knew exactly how to do the promotion and I managed to get the God of War and Ico/Shadow of Collosus collections for $14.99. My rewardzone $5 off coupon helped too. I also found some of those .99 cent 3 packs of videogame cases. I added it up and I used $50 worth of coupons and everything I bought was on sale. :)

Thanks OP and thanks CAG in general. :p

Sorry this doesn't help you at this point, but Blockbuster has the Avatar Extended Collector's edition for $9.99 now. It used to be $12.99 but was marked down to $9.99.

So anyone thinking of buying the Avatar Extended Edition might want to try Blockbuster first if you still have one in the area.

Thinking about Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Usual Suspects; I'll need to double check that these are the versions I want in case there are multiples.

went to best buy traded in 5 dvds. bought the following... Boondock saints 1 and 2, rambo 4, inglorious bastards, pulp fiction for $42.XX after the trade in coupons.

then went across the way to target and picked up 310 to yuma and T2 skynet edition for $5 each - blu rays.

my blu ray player will be hard at work the following month.
Was Donnie Darko still $10? With this promo and the MFR coupon, you could get this for $2! o_O
I went back today for Donnie Darko. The regular edition is included in the sale, not the anniversary edition so the coupon would not work. The rep at Best Buy honored the anniversary edition for me since it was also on sale for $9.99, so after trade-in coupon, and the $3 MFR coupon, I got it for $2!

Also, I brought my Dad since he just bought a bluray player, and he picked up The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, which should be $14.99 before coupon. But it seems to be on sale for $9.99, and the coupon wouldn't work. But since it is in the advertised list, they honored that as well and he picked it up for $4.99.
I bought Cast Away and it had no disc. I called and they told me they'd gladly exchange it. Beware.
It's not Best Buy's fault if a warehouse accidentally or purposely for that matter doesnt put a disc in its case. theres really no way Best Buy can check if it had its disc as I'm sure it was still in its shrinkwrap. But sucks for you anyways.

Traded in two DVDs today and the process couldn't have been simpler. They even took the Madagascar Penguins Christmas Special that has no barcode. I'm not even sure where I bought that or if I bought it all.

I picked up Grindhouse for $10 and I saved the other coupon hoping for some more sales between now and the end of the promo.

So far I've traded 11 in. I have more DVDs I can trade, but unless they add some more eligible titles I think I'm done:

Black Hawk Down
Book of Eli
Boondock Saints Truth & Justice Edition
Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
Good Will Hunting
Grindhouse 2 Pack
Punisher War Zone
Terminator
Terminator Salvation
Twister
X-Men First Class

I was simply trying to warn others to check their disc (or lack thereof) so they wouldn't let the same sucky thing happen. I don't know how that incites such a response.
The coupon wouldn't work for the Avatar CE evidently the SKU is for the regular version, but they did an override since the sticker was on the CE.
By the time my Best Buy got the Avatar: CE back in stock, the website had switched the online list to the regular version so no go for me.

traded in 2 hd dvd's yesterday. picked up Die Hard 1 and 3 to finish out my set.

no problems with the handling of this promo at my store. my only problem is getting to the CS desk to do the damn deal. don't know about you guys(and gals) store, but the CS at my local store is slow as fuck. between that and the cavity checks going out the door, it's a real turn off shopping there.
cavity checks going out the door, it's a real turn off
Oh, come on. You don't like cavity checks??? :bouncy:

That will be Best Buy's next step when doing returns.

OMG this was a painful process.
So I go to one store and confirm with two employees that this promo was going on at that store. Take 5 dvd's in to the CSR. The guy first has no clue about the promo, then says "that promo ended awhile ago...", then he says we don't take it in store it's online only(when the web site says IN STORE ONLY), then he goes and prints out that OTHER trade in program that bb does which was different. I asked him to get a manger and a few seconds later the manager says the promo starts tomorrow.

I have the ad infront of me and he tells me it's tomorrow's ad not this week's ad (when there is like 50 copies of this weeks ad in front of the store), I check the date in the ad and sure enough it's this week. I asked him what's the date, and he says the 15th, pointed the ad dates to him and he realized he fucked up and apologized. He then tells the employee to take the discs and give me a gift card (I was like YES!), then realizes he needs to give out the coupons which was right behind the first idiot CSR and acts like just give him 5 of these...

I asked if there was suppose to be some sort of paper work or receipt of the transaction and he was like no.... There was no scanning or anything of the barcodes...

Got Social Network and the Town Combo pack for 10 bucks a pop!

Not shabby....

oh, and they let me keep the coupons! :D
I don't understand why the "Bad Teacher" blu-ray is eligible but not the Blu-ray combo pack. Stupid!
I had the same problem with The Tourist BR/DVD Combo pack. Stupid online had the picture of the combo back but the deal was for the single pack only and they wouldn't match it :(

I traded in 4 DVD's- The Tomb, Big Fat Liar, Hung Season 1 disc 2, and Wicker Man process was a little of a hassle though. Cashier had no idea what I was talking about and had to talk to a manager. Manger comes up didn't know anything either and I explained it to her then she studied the coupon for 10 minutes. She then said will make an exception and give me 4 coupons. She said really I am only eligable to get one for every five movies. Man how come BB employrees are always so clueless?

the coupon explains in detailed maximum 5 coupons can be traded in per transaction thus 5 dvds per transaction, i had to read the fine print to the best buy employee in order for them to understand the promotion more clearly, they have a specific display up for the trade in promotion as well, i hope they expand the selection of blu rays :)

Looks like there were some price increases as expected. These following titles went from $9.99 to $14.99. I'm sure there are more that I missed.

Boondock saints (2disc)
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th part 2
Friday the 13th part 3
Ferris Bueller
Die Hard
Die Hard 2
Die Hard 3
Die Hard 4

I already bought 10 titles. I was going to go back for more, but fuck it now. I'll hold onto my money for Amazon black friday blu-ray deals.

glad I just bought 3 of those. Still wanted to get Boondock Saints though...meh.

Any price drops?

I am happy to say that I have NEVER had a problem with either Best Buy location near me. What I don't understand is why if people are having such problems with the stores they are visiting on continuos, or just once, why are they not getting the employees/managers names and the store number, and calling their corporate offices on these problems. I mean if they are having these problems a lot call on them, there is obviously training and communication issues, and heck you could get something out of it for your troubles. I know I would be calling.

I was thinking about going back for the Die Hard movies, but not anymore.

Hopefully they will add some more blu-rays to the selection before the sale is over.

oh I am calling Monday about my issue....... Wasted so much time because of their stupidity. "oh it starts tomorrow...no that's tomorrow's ad (when it's actually this weeks ad), we don't do it in store.. oh here is the coupon (right behind the guy)".
If your store still has the $9.99 price label out, you can get them to honor the price. Regardless, it's no longer eligible as one of the Upgrade2Save titles. I had it in my hands the first day of the promotion but had to miss out on it because a clueless cs rep and manager just couldn't get the deal to go through.
I've had that happen before and they will argue with you til you call HQ and then they will back down.

Got Forrest Gump for $5 after coupon. My local BB have copies Forrest Gump sticker price is $9.99 and it rang up $14.99. Also, few copies sticker price $22.99 and the MOD have no problem adjust down $5 plus taxes after $5 off trade-in coupon ;)

Thanks, but I wonder if they would even call HQ. That's the level of cluelessness there was at this store. Anyway, with even more prices being jacked up this week for this deal, looks like I have even less motivation now to trade in any more. Maybe next time they run another promotion for trade-ins.

just checked out the website some of prices have gone up, if your gonna take advantage of the promo now would be the time

Hot Tub Time Machine and Valkyrie went up too. I got 4 movies yesterday but store I went didn't have these titles. Forget it now $10 isn't really a deal for em now.

The Best Buy stores near me used to have terrible service, so I did what you advised: call corporate and report them. I must have called about 15 times over the years. The stores have improved dramatically in the past year, but it still took them a good decade to get it right. I don't even think I had anything to do with it, but I guess it'd be nice to think so.
so wait do i have to bring in the DVD version of the blu ray i want to buy. or can i just bring in a random DVD.
Random DVD, assuming it's not porn.

You guys might want to check out walmart or 5 below or other places that sells dvd's. If they are taking in ANY DVD's without barcode scanning them, then it's time to hit up all the cheap shitty dvd's like the one you find in the crap bin's.

youd spend $5 on a dvd to get a $5 coupon? That logic fails.

Yep, they (well my local walmart) has a shit load of fitness dvd's clearance down to 2-3 dollars. I am really surprised they aren't barcode scanning the items. Can you imagine walking in with a pot belly and 5 fitness dvd's to turn in and when asked why you are doing this, your response is that they didn't do shit for me :p

Went last week to get Avatar Extended edition and Halloween. It was pretty stupid that they sent me to the games trade in center first, then they told me there that they don't even think they do dvd trade ins and that he didn't know how. So I went to my favorite place in the store, the Customer Service desk, where they were having trouble using the coupon and it took a while for them to actually get it working. I also saw that there was the DVD Blu Ray version of Avatar available for the trade in coupon but it was $29.99 and so the extended edition is much cheaper than that, but the Extended Edition wasn't stickered or by where the other blus for the promotion were.

I have to say it worked without a hitch. I went in thinking that my best buy would not know what was going on or harass me. I went in first to ask before i embarrassed myself dragged in my shitty dvd's. They girl said she knew about the promotion and i went back in with them. The kid that checked me out was a little hesitant but finally came around. So all in all not too bad. Its sad that most of the time i fee like best buy will throw me about before they honor their own promotions.

hmm what's wrong with this picture?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchp...p=&qp=&list=n&iht=y&usc=All+Categories&ks=960

Ok I called HQ. They pretty much read over the stuff that is shown on the web site regarding this promo..but they did mention that I had to buy at that very moment the movies I wanted while trading in the dvd discs. hmmm... There was no information regarding scanning or paper work...

About the Tourist...which one is this promo qualifying for? they seem to be both BR/DVD combos for 14.99/19.99.

Wasn't able to get Die Hard with a Vengence cuz it was OOS. Then the price jumps up $5. It makes sense because the tag on those titles listed above did say "On Sale". Guess the sale ended on Saturday. I have gotten 10 Blus with this promotion, on 2 separate days of 5 each.

X-Men First Class is among their list but its on sale. When I talked to a sales rep on the phone they told me that the coupon/discount it wouldn't work on sale prices.

Anyone able to prove this wrong? Really want First Class for $14.99.

More than a few times, the single-disc version is shown with the same image as the combo pack, and the lesser priced version is always the cheaper price.

Whoever told you that is an idiot. Nowhere does it say it doesn't work on sales prices, which would be idiotic anyway because throughout the promotion half the titles on the list go on sale at one point or another. Hell, the ads show titles with their sales price and how much you'd pay after the $5 off.

The coupon will work on all of the titles listed.

I got it for $14.99. Coupon came right off in their system. Almost all of the Upgrade and Save titles were or are on sale. You should be good. Speak to a manager if you have any problems. Direct them to the website.
