BB - Upgrade & Save part 2
X-Men First Class is among their list but its on sale. When I talked to a sales rep on the phone they told me that the coupon/discount it wouldn't work on sale prices.

Anyone able to prove this wrong? Really want First Class for $14.99.
I picked up First Class for $14.99 last Friday without any problems.

Man im looking at my local weekly ad and it says, "markdown taken from original price". Anyone else confirm their weekly ad says the same?

I just traded in four DVDs yesterday and confirmed that the $5 trade-in discount comes off of the sale price of the blu-rays, not the original price. I picked up Halloween, The Usual Suspects, Napoleon Dynamite and Terminator for $5 each after discount.

I was unable to get the $5 trade-in discount to work on two blu-rays not listed on the BB website for this promotion - Contact and the Donnie Darko Anniversary Edition. The computer wouldn't accept the coupon on those.

All ads probably say the same thing.

Regardless of whatever the ad says, the $5 has been taken off the sales price for almost all of them. Think about it, almost every single title included in the promotion is on sale. Many people were getting those $9.99 "on sale" titles for $4.99. If they were marking EVERYTHING back up to $19.99 and then taking $5 off it wouldn't have been a deal at all!

However there are definitely a few issues. Some titles that were $9.99 during the 1st week of the promotion, got raised to $14.99 or even $19.99 after the 1st week. (True Grit I think was raised on the 1st DAY, I'm so glad I got that one for $4.99). Also when I went to get Avatar CE for $19.99-$5.00, for whatever reason my store only had the $29.99 MSRP regular version as part of trade-and save. The $19.99 one wouldn't scan with the coupon. When I tried to argue that it was the CE version that was on the list, they told me I couldn't have it because it was on sale. I couldn't get it for the "trade and save" price, only for the $19.99 sale price. I guess the fact that I had just bought about 10 other blu-rays that were "on sale" was lost on them. The only difference was Avatar wasn't scanning in the computer at that store. Most of the titles should scan just fine though and take $5 off, as long as you make sure you have the correct version.

I think "regular price" in their terms is whatever is programmed in their registers. They just won't combine it with any discounts beyond that (i.e., if they have a 10% off coupon or whatever, you won't be able to use it along with the $5 coupon).

It would be completely stupid for them to take the markdown off of the full price, as the sale price on many of those is already more than $5 off of that. Why would you trade-in DVDs to pay more?

But really, seriously, enough people have told you now that it's not an issue that you should stop worrying about it. :)

I just looked at the new list for the trade and save promotion and Three Kings is on there, which is on sale for $7.99. Can I really get it for $2.99? :O

Well I took a chance and brought in some DVDs for the midnight release for Arkham City and you guys were right. Got the discount on the sale price.

I managed to get:

Training Day 4.99
X-Men First Class 14.99
The Dark Knight 7.99

Too bad they didnt have Avatar though. Will probably try another one BB store.

Thanks for the responses guys.
Best Buy notoriously screws up when picking images for movies on their website.

More than a few times, the single-disc version is shown with the same image as the combo pack, and the lesser priced version is always the cheaper price.
Yea... sometimes the combo pack was cheaper than the single disc lol.
has anyone had the balls to try to use the coupon on a movie that's not on the list just to see if it will work?
I have tried but you need a manager override since it wont take $5 off. The manager at my store didn't override so I couldn't get one but you may get lucky.

I tried get Manager override Forrest Gump (Sticker Price is $9.99) with $5 off Trade-in coupon knock down $4.99 plus taxes
Blockbuster has avatar collector's 3 disc set for 10 bucks new.
The 3 disc is still labeled as $12.99 at the Blockbuster near me. They did have a different edition for 10 bucks which include 1 blu-ray/1 DVD which isn't the collector's set.

My store also had the collector's set marked $9.99 new (down from $12.99). I didn't have it scanned.

BTW when the fuck is muthafuckin best buy going to add some more titles? It's bad enough deese muthafuckas raised the damn prices.:whistle2:s Royal with cheese. :whistle2:s

I should not be allowed to watch Pulp Fiction, even for $10 after coupon. ;)

I think price changes etc occur only on Sunday and since next week is the last week of the sale, it's the last time BB can add titles to this sale.

Picked up pulp fiction, donnie darko, and office space. For anyone that doesnt know if the movie you want is not on the upgrade and save shelve just go to a-z and their should be a stack their :p. Still have two coupons left. however my wallet is already yelling at me.

Has anyone had any luck picking up Blu Rays NOT on the list with ignorant employees just overriding? Like upgrading The Crow next week for instance? I was thinking of trying being my BB let me exchange around 15 movies in one go - just made them separate transactions. Anyone else?

Definitely not gonna happen here in SoCal. I've been to 3 BB stores around LA and the employees all knew exactly what they were doing. Still, never hurts to try/ask...

Have you been to the Best Buy in West Hollywood yet? This store redefines idiocy. I could fill a book with these guys' antics. I'm a fan of Best Buy, but this store is headache inducing.

You would have to find a manager who was really stupid because practically everything for the promotion says "on select titles" or whatever. I think there was a 12" x 12" poster right there at the customer service desk on the counter that said it.

I've been getting rid of a lot of old movies from when I used to get lots of stuff from the $5 bins at Walmart. Some were ones that I was actually upgrading though (Twister, Boondock Saints).
Are you guys just trading in some shitty titles you already have or are you picking up cheap movies at MovieStop or something to flip for coupons???
I've heard people buy dvd's from a dollar store since you can get like a DVD for a quarter. I actually got rid of some movies 99c movies I got from Blockbuster like Namesake, synechdoche New york, milk.

Stupid or lazy... But it's immaterial as they're one in the same at the WeHo branch. That's why I asked if anyone had any luck. I'm going to press mine when I swing in there next week and see what happens.

I keep checking every now and then. I hope we see some nice additions or drops on Sunday, but I won't hold my breath.
Nothing new it seems and most of the titles I want went up in price last week. Might just toss my 2 remaining coupons. :(
Yeah, I was thinking of upgrading my copies of Old School and Tropic Thunder to BR but they went up $5 :(

Disappointed no new titles or discounts, also have 2 coupons left. Though thought i had Castaway already and i don't so will get that and maybe Jarhead.

Yeah, this sucks. Sorry man.

i got 5 blus during the first week of the promotion... now im just thinking i might as well wait and save my money until Black friday deals.

apparently the problem with Dawn of the Dead is that i got the Combo pack and only the single blu was part of the deal. Mine had the upgrade sticker on it and was on the display so wasn't hard to get the $5 off.

I hope they do this program again soon. I just wish they would allow more options for blu-rays. I have a ton of DVDs left to get rid of.

Heads up guys, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction are $12 starting Sunday so $7 each after trade-in. Last time they ran this until the end of the first week of the following month, so I'm assuming this deal will still be going on for one final fling.
Coupon said 10/29 i believe, so unless they don't follow that date, its ending on saturday.
Aww, really? Well shit.

Oh crappy. I just forgot I went to a BB yesterday, and brought 2 DVD in. She printed out the receipt for me.

However, I cannot make it back to that store until tomorrow. Can I use that $10 credit at a different BB? Or is the coupon only good at the store I got it at?

The coupon is good for any store.. You got a receipt?!??!?! Can you scan and post it? I got nothing, they just took it and it was like "huh?"...

Made my final trip with the U&S promo. Screw Best Buy and their wonderful Midnight sale! I picked up "Donnie Darko" with a mint slip for $4.99 and the original "Halloween" for $4.99.

Got :br: Life As We Know It and :br: Dawn of the Dead - both combo packs today for $5 each... Funny thing is Life as We Know It single blu was 19.99, while the combo pack was 9.99. Go figure. They had to override coupon on DotD, but they did it with no hassle at all.

This promo was a mess... Even with the qualifying titles, it just gave problems.. I kept on hearing excuses like "oh this store isn't honoring that coupon.."(yet it's the same store I did the trade in for!) or It must have the U&S sticker on it (yet it's listed on the web site!).

How long til the next one?

Great JOB! I picked up Life as we know combo pack a week ago w/o override. Only Dawn of the Dead combo pack and Forrest Gump is overrided

I went back for one final score. I'm really really happy about getting The Crow and Mimic for $7 a piece. Here's what I got this time:

Mimic - $7 - ($15 minus $5 upgrade and save coupon minus $3 manufacturers coupon from coupon.com)
The Blues Bros. - $9.99 (after $5 upgrade and save coupon)
Twister - $4.99 - (after $5 upgrade and save coupon)
The Crow - $7 - ($19.99 minus $10 Walmart price match minus $3 manufacturers coupon from coupon.com)

What's even better is a flipped a bunch of videogames (Saw II amazon.com deal), so I didn't have to spend any cash.
CAG, you have taught me well. :whistle2:D

All in all I traded in 13 dvds during this promotion and I also bought The Crow. I would have bought more if they didn't raise so many of the prices on the upgrade and save blu-rays. I guess those Blu-rays can sit on the shelf until black friday when they inevitably go on sale again :p Amazon will price match and I won't even have to leave my home :p

Thanks again to everyone who contributed to this deal and thanks to those on the CAG coupon forum who let me know about the Mimic/Crow manufacturers coupon on coupons.com.
