Best Buy $2 Clearance: CAG State of the Sale

My Best Buy (West 23rd St in NYC) = total wipeout!

I went right after class and they had nothing left on the list. Lol, there were over a dozen ppl from what I saw searching for whatever they could find with their lists out. We were all the late comers though. I saw one person with a couple of games, another had about five. I found GTA: SA and Nightmare Before Christmas for PS2, but I already have GTA: SA and I put Nightmare back. I really wanted MGS3: Sub.

I overheard a customer and an employee talking and the employee said ppl were lined up outside before the doors opened. They rushed in and bought crap loads of games, like 10+ each. Damn >_<

I wish I would've known about this sale sooner. Oh well...
Funny you should say that.

Guess who purchased a copy of Killer 7 for the PS2 today?
Damn You!!! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!

Not really.....as I have it for GameCube...and have the PS2 version on HDD :) WHEEE!!!

I was able to snag:

Lunar: Dragon Song [I know, but for $2.00...] (NDS)
Drill Dozer: (GBA)

I stopped by on my way to work for my 11am start time today (pretty convenient, eh?) and I walked in right at about 10am. Like some yuppy douchebag, I exported the list to my iPod's notes folder since I didn't want my laptop up to hook up to a printer last night. Soon after arriving, I had the two games above in my posession. I was surprised to see I was the only one there looking for games at first, but within five minutes, I was in competition with the smelliest basement dweller I had ever seen. He STUNK! As though 10am was the break of dawn or something like that, this guy looked like he was in pyjamas with his ratty-ass t-shirt and stained gray sweat pants from which he produced his scrawled notes. He asked if I had the last copy of Lunar, and when I said yes, I think he actually farted. The stale stench of B.O. took a different form and I was actually repelled away.

He walked over to the GameCube display and threw his arms out to the side in a display of utter dismay to see there was little to choose from. I hate to judge, because were it not for my job, own home, fiancee and self-respect, I'm probably just nine missed showers away from being like that, myself. I also know there's a difference between a good deal and enabling some weird addiction. Again I hate to judge, but man, I can't help but laugh at some of these dudes.

Anyone else receive an extra 20% off their games? I checked my receipt and noticed that half the games (Advance Wars Dual Strikes/Psychonauts/Marvel Nemesis) I bought received the discount.
Shrike, do you know if anyone has had any luck at the Brentwood store? I was thinking about checking there on my way home...
Not that I've heard. Just what I know from the SoCo store (as it's in my backyard) and what thabizzle told me about Bridgeton (which is close to my work). I may swing by Fenton or Crestwood on the way home, though I don't expect anything. Mid Rivers Mall and Chesterfield are outside my normal patterns of places to go these days, though they usually have heavy traffic for sales like this. Fairview Heights, no clue at all.

There was nothing at the BB in Roseville. I forgot my print out list at home so I end up calling my brother to help me look some up and nothing. All cleared. I would have gone when BB started to open, but class.... if only it was Tuesday or a Thursday..

Will anyone trade MOTO GP 06 for XBOX 360 for OBLIVION on Xbox 360? If so PM me ASAP! Thanks

The emplloyees got most of the games (Saw two witha couple stacks) but I managed to grab Riddick, Sonic Gems,Timesplitters, and 4 Swords. I coulda got Harvest Moon DS and Magical Melody, but I porbably won't play them. I might get DS on principle though. All I realy wanted was DKC 3 and Psychonauts

What i got from Best Buy:
Astonisha Story(psp)
Brothers in arms: earned in blood(ps2)
The legend of heroes II: prophecy of the moonlight witch(psp)
and
Romancing Saga(ps2)
Did I do good? :O
I also could have had some others like the godfather and one piece but there was some kind of error with the sku numbers and computers.

I was able to get
Sigma Star Saga (5)
Espn NFL 2k5 (2)
Winning eleven 8 (10)

And out of the glitchy $10 BOGO movies

Magnolia
Shawshank Redemption
Heat
Enter the Dragon
Amadeus
True Romance

All 2 disc, for a total of about under $50

My friend on the other hand got

Me and my katakary PSP
Pokemon dash DS
Sprung DS
The Warriors PS2
Shaman King GBA

Went to Irvine (Lake Forest) BB. They had PS2 DBZ Budokai 3 and that's it. I saw two people with lists and one with some mobile electronics device that probably had a list on its screen. One of the list guys eventually asked an employee if they had any clearance games, since there was nothing outside DBZ. He pointed to an encap with PSP Pinball and one other thing. This was 10am, at store opening.

Then went to Tustin Marketplace BB. They have a lot of specially marked games there, but nothing special. There were 2 people with lists, and some others milling around. The two with lists had a few games, but nothing special -- Poker, some GBA games. There was PS2 Poker for 1.99 and DS Sprung for 1.99, but that was it.

I didn't find a single game at BB today. However, I did really well. I got:
Batman, Batman Returns, Million Dollar Baby, and Magnolia at BB for $20
PSP Bloodhounds for $11.21 at Circuit City
Wii Elebits for $32 (used) at GS, after coupon and Edge
DS Monopoly/Yahtzee/Boggle/Battleship for $20 used at GS
and PSP Medieval Resurrection for $9.98 at Target.

nothing, and when i say nothing, I mean i saw not one game marked down between PS2, DS nor GCube. Didnt bother with XBox section.

Did see any empty slot for FFCC though.

I made it to the Anchorage, AK store about 11 am this morning. They were still stocking the shelves, believe it or not. Very little there anyway. None of the GBA games. The gamecube section only had maybe 10 titles total, nothing released earlier than 2005. It wasnt that things were picked over, they just didnt have any of the 'older' titles anymore.
And when I asked about the clearence games they had one for DS, Ridge Racer, and that was it.

The only thing I did pick up was a Greatest Hits copy of Prince of Persia 3, which rang up for $4.99.

I love it when I asked the guy if this would ring up at a 'clearance' price, he said "If you think $4.99 is a clearance".

None of the spiderman games, no jak games, no mario games, no crash tag team racing, zilch. Had a drag racing ps2 game for $1.99
Pretty disapointing but I'm glad I even knew about it.

Thanks CAG!

my best buy didn't get the memo i think. they had gta san andreas (ps2), ghost recon (ps2) and splinter cell (ps2), but when i asked the girl to check the prices, they came up regular prices ($19.99 and up). they were all supposed to be $1.99...

Our BB had this sale, and although they didn't have everything I wanted, I got 6 games for $30:

Harvest Moon: Magical Melody $10 (GC)
Sonic Heroes $2 (GC)
Sonic Mega Collection $2 (GC)
Jak II 5$ (PS2)
Star Ocean: Til The End Of Time $5 (PS2)
Shadow The Hedgehog $5 (PS2)

I got the LAST copy of Harvest Moon :D

I went at 3:30 to my BB. They had Fifa Street 2 and Madden 05... that was it... and I wasn't wasting my money, so I didn't get either

yeah, I picked up some of the 1.99 and 4.99 stuff for us to put in our redemption center at my arcade, but half of the stuff on that list was NOT marked down. Karaoke revolution, GTA vice city, etc. were all ringing up as 19.99. glad I didn't take a day off work to check this out. oh well.

I had a few games like that myself, it was quite odd.

Nothing for me at the Liberty Missouri store. The shelves were more bare than I have ever seen them for a BB store.

How did everyone do that "preordered" the clearance games? Were you able to price adjust ok?

Wow, what a difference there can be for different parts of a metro area. I went out to 3 of the 4 Best Buys in my area yesterday and got several things - a few at each (and stupidly passed up things like VP Lenneth). I was able to price adjust those today, no problem. I went out again today around 11-12 and went to 2 of the stores. Many of the same things I saw yesterday were still there, plus some things I passed up before but snagged now since I didn't have to deal with price adjusting. At one store (near the Portland airport) I overheard some guy talking about CAG - wonder if it was a regular? If so, you just beat me to the games and had several in a basket and there was another guy you were talking to that had a bunch (this was around 11:30 probably).

Then I decided to hit the 4th store (Beaverton, OR) - where I didn't go yesterday. I got there around 12:30 and an employee spotted my list right away. He said they had nothing left and when they opened in the morning there were 50 people in line and they were all pretty pissed that they had very few clearance titles anyway. Man, what a difference from that store to the others though. Like I said, the other 2 look like they had barely been touched (the VP Lenneth was missing, as well as some games the 2 guys snagged but much of what I saw early Sunday was still there). I know to avoid that area in the future as there must be a high per capita SD and FW population

Anyway, managed to snag the following:

:ds:
Madagascar
Open Season
Shrek Super Slam

:gc:
Shrek Super Slam

:360:
Full Auto
NHL 2K6
College Hoops 2K6
Moto GP 06

:ps2:
Top Spin
Sega Classics Collection
Madden 07 HoF edition
Prince of Persia Two Thrones

:psp:
Gradius Collection
Daxter
Popolocrois
Mega Man Maverick Hunter X
Mercury
Gripshift
2006 FIFA World Cup

Only Shrek Super Slam for GC and Full Auto were amongst my top priorities. Besides Oblivion CE I was really hoping for King Kong, RR6, Xbox Republic Commando and several of the other GC and DS games.

I hope everyone remembered to bring the $5 off Gamepro coupons with them today ;).

Although there were a few games that I wanted on the list, all they really had were PS2 games (Severe lack of XBOX and 360 games, along with not that many quality DS games), and I made out with this:

:ps2:
Godfather: Limited Edition (1.99)
Def Jam: FFNY (1.99)
Marc Ecko's Getting Up (4.99)

Both DJ and ME were on my list (Didn't get ME for XBOX, although they had it and it was at the 1.99 pricepoint, because it isn't backward compatible with 360) and I was so shocked to see Godfather Limited Edition for 2 bucks, that I just said fuck it and got it.

Didn't have much money to spend either, but I really feel like I made out fantastically.

this seriously just ticked me off.

i got to my bb today (with cabbage8921), and we find multiple things.

Here is what we FOUND:

The Urbz DS x3
Sega Casino DS
Sprung DS x 2
Soul Caliber 2 xbx
NHL 2k6 360 x 2
Nanobreaker ps2 x 4
GTA SA ps2
and a bunch of crappy gba games for 1.99 (supposedly)

so when we go to the register to ring these items up, they all rang up at full price execpt for the 2 NHL 2k6s for 360. WTF. this on top of me finding out that madden 07 psp wasnt on the list. i felt so stupid having all those games in my basket and the lady rang up all of them and i only ended up buyin 2. everyone behind me was sure giving me a stupid look.

bright side, i only spent 5 bucks and got a 360 game.

EDIT: Can someone give a logical reason why the games rang up at full price?

Snagged:
PS2
Ultimate Spiderman
Godfather Limited Edition
Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal

did i actually want these games... no. i bought them out of spite.

Well, I went to my local BB (Portland, ME) and it was pretty disappointing. There weren't a lot of games that were left.

I picked up:
Duel Masters (GBA) - $1.99
ESPN 2K5 (XBOX) - $1.99
Enthusia (PS2) - $1.99

I got

Marc Ecko 1.99
One Piece Grand Battle 4.99
The Warriors 4.99
Rugby 06 1.99 [I don't even know what this game is, but it's pretty new and I'd rather have this than McDonalds.]

I'm quite happy with my haul as well. Went at about 5:30 pm and was able to get a few good games that I was interested in playing.
Still a bunch of ps2 games left with multiple copies and probably more on the list that I wasnt interested in. ( I only looked for the games I wanted to play and my list of games to look for was fairly small. Although xbox/360/GC was cleaned out.)

Digimon Rumble Arena 2 ps2
Urban Reign ps2
Virtua fighter 4 EVO ps2
Full spectrum warrior :10 hammers ps2
Dead to Rights 2 Xbox

After couple RCs I only had to shell out a couple bucks in the end. I have to say I got more of a thrill out of reading about other people's adventures then getting cheap games. Thanks for the fun BK!

I went to the Orland Park, IL store, and there was nothing marked on sale. I noticed two games that were on the list, but I didnt want them so I didnt check to see if they would ring up at the reduced price.

Here's my final loot:

:gba:
Dr Mario x Puzzle League
Final Fantasy IV: Advance
Mario Party Advance

:ps2:
Jak 3
Metal Gear Solid 3: SubsistenceRatchet & ClankRomancing SagaSly Cooper

:psp:
Ape Escape
Ape Escape Academy
Go! Sudoku
MegaMan Maverick Hunter X
Midway Arcade Treasures
Monster Hunter Freedom
Popolocrois
Tiger Woods 2006
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
Worms

:xbox:
Brothers in Arms
True Crime: New York City

:360:
NHL 2K6
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland

Total came out to $143.77. I had to price-adjust 6 of those cause I had bought them earlier (3 intentionally, 3 unintentionally), but I didn't get any grief from the CS rep. She even checked games on the receipts that I wasn't pointing out.

One note about the Go! Sudoku: There were a billion left in the register area. However, those aren't going to ring up as $1.99 because the stores put special $9.99 UPC's on there. Somebody brave can try taking them off or asking the cashier to do so.

I guess Austin isn't too heavy in CAG/FW/SD/etc people cause it was pretty easy to find stuff. Even about an hour ago, you could still find the odd $1.99 game here and there. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the four games that I really wanted (Oblivion, FFXI, Daxter, UG&G), so I might end up trying to trade some of what I got.

This is obviously not for every Best Buy, I went to my local best buy earlier and they didnt have any games on sale.

Did you actually check the shelves and get price checks?

Several of the BB's around me didn't pull the games and sometimes didn't bother updating the stickers.

Most of the games were snatched up for resale by retards from fatwallet. The rest were camped out for by neckbeards. Can't ever get a good deal these days.

Out of the seven games in my list...I only found one...the game was supposed to be 4.99 but it came up to 19.99...has this been a problem to anyone else?!?...

yes. carried the stack of games to a register and scanned every one. then, at checkout, had them scanned again. many came up normal price, including the ones i mentioned earlier...

pay attention and read the thread before asking redundant questions...

Some price problems. I was going to get nanobreaker (no idea what the hell this game is, but it was supposed to be cheap) Rang up as $9.99 even though was supposed to be $1.99 (4.99?) on the list. Also, all the GBA games that were in the $9.99 bins were supposed to be $1.99 didnt ring up at the cheap price. $9.99. :(

After reading about some of the BBs that refuse to sell the clearance games, I wonder if some of them have manually changed the prices for the sale games themselves.
I can't think of any other reason tha t they aren't ringing up the same as everyone else's stores.
Have you guys tried buying them at their full price and then getting an adjustment at another BB? Maybe it's just 1 store out of the district that is not going along with the sale.
I overheard some guy talking about CAG - wonder if it was a regular?
Wasn't me. I was too busy most of the day and figured by the time I'd be able to get to one, there wouldn't be much left.

Same here. Didn't have time to run by my local stores to check them out as the drives are at least 25 minutes. By the time I got off work, I figured all the good stuff was snatched. I wanted a few DS games. Oh well.

Yes, most copies of these games were restickered with different UPC codes because they were a new set of "cheap" games they bought before Christmas and (mostly) put into displays by the registers. Us Kmart clearance veterans are very familiar with this as the same problem occurs there. Look carefully at the back of the game - if it has a stickered UPC then it will probably not ring up on clearance. These are different stock than the clearance games which have been sitting around for much longer (thus why they are more scarce).

As 3QGojo reports above, if you remove the UPC stickers to reveal the true UPC they will ring up on sale. Of course, this is very YMMV and is not something you should do on your own. If the employees tell you to or offer to do it, then by all means go for it. I'm guessing that all these games "not ringing up right" or from stores "not participating in the sale" or where the stores have "changed prices themselves back to MSRP" are all really the same small set of games that you were MORE LIKELY to find as they had these stickers and thus weren't bought by anyone else. I saw a stack of these by the register at one store where everyone had brought them up and then declined to buy them when they didn't ring up as expected.

One wierd thing happened to me - one BB had nearly everything marked. However, the Sega Classics Collection tag still said $9.99. They had about 8. I noticed that 6 were restickered and 2 were the original UPC. I bought those two and they rang up $1.99 as expected.

The one exception there is GTA:SA which rings up $19.99 without any UPC change. People are reporting in the other thread that the wrong SKU was entered into Best Buy's (central) computer and the game is *supposed* to be $1.99 but rings up wrong as a result (it is on the original list). I bought 2 to price match and of course it didn't work. I was going to return them but maybe I'll wait a few days anyway - they might clear that up.

Same issue as above for both of you, too, most likely (especially as Nanobreaker is one of those games).

I have a few that I found.

DS
Castlevania- Dawn of Sorrow X 4
Open Season
Harvest Moon

PS2
Starwars Episode III\
Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex
Crash: Twinsanity

Xbox
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Open Season
Midnight Club 3
Star Wars Republic Commando

I need to go back for gamecube titles.

I was able to find the following:

PS2:
- Jak 3 (1.99)
- Capcom Classics, Vol 1(4.99)
- Taito Classics (9.99)
- Sonic Heroes (1.99)
- Gauntlet (the newest one) (1.99)
- Star Ocean (4.99)

There were several other PS2 titles, but nothing that interested me.

Well I only found a handful of 1.99 games but I did manage to pick up games that I knew I was going to play:

1.99
PSP - Go! Sudoku
PS2 - Cabela's Deer Hunt
PS2 - World Poker Championship
XBox - Forza Motor Sport
XBox - Dreamfall
GC - Zelda: Windwaker

4.99
PSP - Me & My Katamari
XBox - Spider Man 2
XBox - Star Wars Episode III

9.99
PSP - Major League Baseball 2k6
PSP - NBA Live 06

for me, the gta san andreas, ghost recon and splinter cell all came up normal price, and none of them had a special upc attached. they were all the original upcs. that was the 1st thing i checked...

At most stores, the games with different UPC codes in a different locations (e.g., up by the register) are usually on consignment from a different vendor (often returns or overstocks put out by a closeout company who got them cheap), and are usually not part of any store sales.
