It's absurd how many ways I've heard of this Upgrade and Save being handled by Best Buy.

Here are some ways I've seen it handled:

1.) You trade in a DVD and get a coupon
2.) You trade in a DVD and get a coupon and a receipt
3.) You trade in a DVD and you get a receipt
4.) You don't get a coupon or receipt, and must do the trade and buy at the same time

I've experienced 1, 2, & 4 during this current promotion. It is crazy how there is no set procedure for this.

Talked to someone last night who said "Yes, manufacturer coupons work with U&S. Call back before you go in and we'll make sure that you get it."

I called back before I went in today and they said "There's no note of that, I'll make sure and email you in fifteen minutes."

No email, so I called back three hours later and they said "There's no note of either of those. Let me check. No, you can't use it, but those things are decided on the store level, so if a manager accepts them, then yes."

Got 5 more today with the sale (And Forgetting Sarah Marshall with movie cash). I think I got something like 25+ movies during the sale. Good times.

I'm going in for one more round tomorrow. I have a question though. I know the trade-ins are limited to 5 per day, but can you use more than 5 coupons in a day? Assuming you have coupons from previous trade-ins.

I'm making a list of potential movies I wanna get. Anyone wanna throw in some good $9.99 (before coupon) suggestions? Or what movies work with what coupons?

For my trips in to trade in discs for U&S, I always get this:
2) You trade in a DVD and get a coupon and a receipt

Only variant has been:
5) You trade in a DVD and get a single coupon with (x5) on it and a receipt, for x5 uses.

That was when the store was low on the thick paper coupons and hadn't reverted to the photocopies.

Also could use some good $9.99 recommendations as well, since the old Conan movies are back to $14.99 each.

There's no reason why you couldn't use a U&S coupon and a manufacturer coupon on the same item. I know I've done it multiple times in the past on the past sales with U&S.

I'm actually kind of glad this promo is ending tomorrow as I've spent way more than I ever intended. I went today to get Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and ended up spending $80. :hot:

Today's haul:

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol ($14.99)
Mr & Mrs Smith ($4.99)
Fringe Season 1 ($16.99)
Fringe Season 2 ($16.99)
Fringe Season 3 ($16.99)

I'd like to say I'm done with this promotion but there is one day left... :applause:

I went in and traded an old Ocean's 11 copy for The Descendants. The only thing is that they gave back the Ocean's 11 with the coupon and receipt.

LOL, well chalk that up as scenario #5 from this promo.

I made my third and I think final trip for this sale. This is the second store that I've been turned down trying to use The Descendents coupon. I think the employees don't want to type in the $5 coupon manually because the blu-ray has a $29.99 price sticker and I would be getting it for $1.99. Anyway, my haul for tonight:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (bluray/DVD/digital copy combo)- $1.99 ($3 universal coupon)
This Upgrade and Save promotion was a nightmare leading to the worst shopping experience in my life.

Yesterday, I went in to Best Buy with my DBZ DVD with the intent on using the $5 off on the Wrestlemania 28 Blu Ray. I went to customer service and they accepted the DVD. I went to get the WM Blu Ray and there was one copy left. Unfortunately, it was in another guy's hands. I go back to customer service and had the lady check the backroom for more. Nothing. I asked her if she could call another store. She attempts to call and the phone rings and rings with no answer. I decided to go to another store and look for the Blu Ray myself even though it's been raining all day.

Store #2:

I find out that the store could no be reached by phone because they were without power for an hour due to the storm. I look for the Blu Ray and they have an entire display of Wrestlemania 28 DVD's and Blu Ray's (as opposed to the one space at Store #1). I pick one and get to the checkout to find out they can't give me the discount and I am sent to customer service. The woman there tells me it's because I was given the receipt without the $5 off coupon. Ok, this is my first time doing this and figured this was a little mistake so ...

Back to Store #1:

I pick up the coupon. She didn't understand why I needed one but I get it, anyone could bring in a receipt and keep getting $5 coupons. Anyway ...

Back to Store #2 (90 minutes have passed):

Customer service is holding the Blu Ray so I go there with receipt and coupon in hand ready to check out with the same person I talked to before.
Best Buy lady: "Where is your DVD"?
Me: "I traded it at the store I just came from."
Best Buy lady: "You can't get the discount unless you have the original DVD in your possession"
Me: "It's already been processed. It's on the receipt".
And she goes on to tell me that they can do an override using some computer code (which I had her write on my receipt) and how they have to protect themselves against scammers which means ...

Back to Store #1 ( 2 hours have passed):

It's still raining so I'm trying to keep the receipt and coupon dry under my shirt (by this point, the other employees are like "he's still here?") Customer service has another guy there who knows about the code ( I think it's OMS) and goes through the return process.

IT DOESN'T WORK due to this being promotional.

I attempt to call the other store as I was sick of this "he said, she said" ridiculousness (over a $5 coupon of all things) and he's trying to give me other options like buying a Blu Ray at the same price and returning it to Store #2 to exchange it with WM28. No way! I call on my phone and get a busy signal. The guy then tells me to call the Geek Squad side (which seemed to be the only people at customer service thinking about it) and they would pick up faster and I finally get to someone. I hand the phone to the guy and he explains what's going on. Finally, I get the name of the manager at Store #2 who will help me out. I ask him over and over if he's sure and he is positive that everything will work out.

Back to Store #2 ( 3 hours passed, still raining, and it's getting dark)

I talk to the security guy and asked for the manager who happened to walk by at the same time. The manager takes me to customer service next to the woman who gave me the hard time.

This leads to an argument between the manager AND the customer service woman where she is accusing me of scamming them. The manager said all I needed was the receipt and coupon and I would be fine. The manager apologized (the other person did not) and I FINALLY bought the Blu Ray. The manager offered to let me use the $5 coupon again but I was so exhausted and drained that I just wanted to go home.

On the way home, I'm thinking "Oh great, what happens if the discs don't work?" so I play them as soon as I get home. No problems at all.

Horrible, horrible experience that could have been avoided if:

1. I received the coupon the first time.
2. Store #1 had the Blu Ray in stock. In addition, I should have made sure they had it before I proceeded to do the trade (even though the coupon doesn't say "trades and purchases only at same store")
3. I ignored CS at Store #2, grabbed another WM28 blu ray, and went to the registers with the coupon and receipt in hand.
4. Used the $5 at Store #1 and trade in another DVD at Store #2.
5. Best Buy could have trained people who work customer service on how to honor something that's advertised in their own ad.

This whole thing has me scarred to the point where I don't feel comfortable walking into a Best Buy and buying anything. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but going to Wrestlemania and wanting to buy it on release day was a big deal to me.
This is why I always do number 2. Hehe poop joke.

I don't even go up to turn in my DVDs unless I have the blus in my possession. Get it all done at once. And it seems my stores just scan a barcode or something to subtract the $5 off each blu. No coupons printed out. I know people stock up on tge coupons but I think this is the smarter thing for Best Buy to do anyways. Saves them and you time and saves them paper.

Got The Descendants for 2 Dollars along with Apollo 13 and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
People at my store hid the descendants but 2 workers helped me find it. Also my Fast Times didnt come with the movie ticket but for 2 dollars whatever.

Damn I don't suppose I would be able to get descendants price adjusted. I bought it for ten with u&s plus coupon last week

In celebration of the last day of the U&S promo I picked up

54 ($4.99)
Cape Fear ($4.99)
10 Things I Hate About You ($4.99)
Apollo 13 ($4.99)
The Descendents ($6.99)

I look forward to the return of this promo at a future date. :)
Anyone know if you can use your $5 reward zone coupons with this deal?
I don't see why not...the system should knock off 5 off + 5 with the RZC...If you have a 9.99 movie then it should come out to a few cents tax that you will walk out paying.

The RZC complicates the $5 U&S deal. Say you purchase a 9.99 bluray, the RZC will reduce the bluray to 4.99 first and the U&S will not work on it. It works as long as its 14.99 or above.

Just give them the U&S coupon first and then give them the RZ coupon, problem solved.

Ding ding ding.. RZ certs should always be used last

Burned out on this sale... Need time to recover from the huge stack of about 40 titles I picked up.

Add to that the haul of nearly 100 blockbuster titles and about ten more from trade ins... I'm gonna be very busy watching movies for a while...
Yup, I really went nuts this time around.
Nice to increase my collection, but wow, what a hit to the funds.
Same here, I picked up close to 35 movies. I have one more coupon left but I didn't have to swing around there today and I would be just going to burn money. I'll try and use it next time the U&S comes around if I can.

I bought We bought a zoo and Ghost (because my wife loves it lol) $11.99 and $9.99. Used 2 $5 upgrade coupons and my $5 RZ coupon. Customer service also said they extended this deal until May 15th. Not sure if I believe it or not, but I'm sure someone will give it a shot.

yep, since they had such a quick expiration date I only ever traded in enough movies to get exactly what I wanted per trip. Did my last run on saturday to pick up some stragglers (Demolition Man and $2 Apollo 13) and picked up Memento on a whim not noticing that it had been on sale that week and thus not eligible.

So I took one of the 3 DVDs back and they said "you can go ahead and trade it in and I'll give you a coupon" to which I replied "...uhh...this promotion expires today you realize? so it would be useless.

Great selection on movies.

Looks like BB trying to pass a fast one. I would have been mad if after trading, they say, sorry coupons expired.
Wish they train employees better.
Anyone know if you can use your $5 reward zone coupons with this deal?
Yes you can! Last week I bought Captain America Blu/DVD Combo Pack for $10 (on sale for $20 - 5 for trade coupon - 5 for RZ cert).
