CAGiversary!

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

It was a crap shoot at the Buena Park store in Ca. Got there at 10 o'clock and there were 5 guys with the list but strange part was they barely had any thing in their hands. I'm pretty sure the employees hit that shiet first. Oh well better luck next time.

ok guys, i just got up, and there have been 500 posts since i went to sleep...

can you please tell me what the following games are actully ringing up?

Astro boy (gba)
mr driller (ds)
zookeeper (ds)
LOTR: 3rd age (gc)
Y's (ps2)
catwoman (xbox)
Starfighter (xbox)
future tactics (ps2)

when i go into best buy, i just want a good sense of what ill be returning and what ill be price matching....thanks ^^

Went to the novi MI store around 12 and when I got in there a crew of like 8 guys walked in and started asking the employees about the clearance sale. The employee told a tale that went like this: when the store opened some lady (probably fat and stupid) walked in with a list and bought every game they had. Well she bought almost every game, she left one copy of mtx mototrax so I got that and left. Then I went to the southfield store and managed to pick up otogi 2 and legacy of kain defiance (two games I wanted). A couple other guys were walking around grabbing games also. Overall this sale was pretty "meh" and is nothing compared to the legendary circuit city clearance (I scored like 11 games at that sale).
Beyond Good & Evil $9.99 ($5 off coupon used)
Astro Boy (GBA) $9.99 (was listed as $4.99)
Final Fantasy 1&2 (GBA) $9.99
Second Sight $9.99 (listed as $4.99)
Catwoman (XBOX) 99 cents

I also ran into a fellow CAG (didn't get his name). He bought almost everything on sale. I talked to him some since it is not everyday you meet a fellow CAG. He said he was getting most of them for trade-in fodder. The dude along with his girlfriend (I'm guessing) worked fast and by the time I looked at the GCN section for 5 seconds she had like 5 Xbox games in her hands. He said he was heading to FYE to trde them in for an Xbox 360. Sucks to live in my area if you're a CAG because he cleaned out that store (even got a cart, he had so many games).
I'm sorry but a fucking HOARDER is not A CAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

West Dundee, IL was cleaned out.

I got the last FF 1+2 Dawn of Souls. Nothing else on the list left for any platform.

I did get Rebelstar for $15 as they had the new GCC :)

I just got back from a BB in Vegas (Maryland Pkwy). There were no games I could find. I was the only guy there at 10:05. I figured that I shouldn't even bother checking any other Best Buys since I remember hiccupleftovers mentioning that he had someone check the area for any of these games.

Ah well, at least I scored most of what I wanted online last night. All I was looking for in-store was Otogi 2.

I have to say to worst experience I've ever had through news and deals with CAG is last years Circuit City 4.99 fest... I went in to my local CC and these two massive fat guys. Lovers, friends, brothers ? I don't know, but neither had showered for a week. Both had carts and were FILLED with games the one dude was mumbling to himself and shifting his eyes back and forth, while the other kinda grunted to himself. They had pretty much cleaned out the store. Fatwallet's indeed, those two fatties completely ruined what should have been a magnificent day.

These were both $10 in Fort Wayne.
mr driller (ds)
zookeeper (ds)

The only thing I got was Otogi 2 for $10. I tried CC, but they didn't have them. The guy there said they would only price match BB if the item was still in stock. I also tried Sears. No Ys or Growlancer there. GS only price matches if it's in an ad.
I'm sorry but a fucking HOARDER is not A CAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed... there are some in this area that use this site to hoard and trade/Ebay sling. I mean, as far as I know, Argyle and I are the only two active posters on here. I post deals when I see em.. if you're going to be a douche bag about the deals, at least contribute to the site when you see something (I post Target finds and whatnot when I come across them). As for the hoarding.. I know first come first serve and all, but buying up 10 copies of Catwoman is just ridiculous.

The BB at the pavilions is a bust for the most part. There is 1 copy left of Y's. Bunch of Rocky's and other fillers. Any other Phoenix area stores that are worth going to? Wanted Silent Hill 4 maybe papermario.

Well.. Hit the store.. In DFW area... They had some items on the list. All the stuff rung up at 9.99 though.. dunno if I keep or return. So this is what I grabbed.

2x GC -Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes.
1x PS2 - Mission Impossible 2: Operation ??
1x PS2 - Crash N Burn
1x GC - Goldenete: Rogue Agent
1xGBA - Kim Possible 2: Draken
1xGC - SC: Pandora Tomorrow
1xXB - SPyro: Hero's Tail
1xXB - Scaler
1xPS2- SRS
1xGC: Lord of RIngs : Two Towers
2xXB: Crash: Twinsanity.

All for about $146 . Only MI2: Operation ? was 4.99 .. Everything else is 9.99.

I left quite a few stuff back for other people.

Hit the Federal Way Best Buy right after it opened. The site said it had pretty much all the games I was looking for (Astroboy, MMXCM, Metal Gear Twin Snakes). There was a table that said 9.99 games with a ton of Starsky and Hutch, some GBA and PS2 games, and I think one XBox game. I think the employees got to the good stuff. Absolutely nothing there. Can't say I'm surprised, though this time I did have my hopes that it wouldn't be a total bust...
ok the only one left is lotr:3rd age (gc) how much is that rinigng up?

and thanks for being so helpful guys ^^
4.99 at my store

Anybody going to Riverdale Ut store better hurry. Hoarders hit before I got there at 11:00. Whats left? I saw
Rocky
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
Mr. Driller

I picked up
Mr Driller
Astro Boy
Metal Gear Twin Snakes
Mega Man X Command Mission GC

Also met Traken, nice guy. He picked up the last Growlanser.

Went to the BB in Towson, MD on my lunchbreak...there was nothin. Talked to the clerk and he said they didn't have much to begin with, but the employee's bought up all the .99 titles. I told him to have fun with Catwoman Xbox.

Oh well.

Pretty much the prices online were the same in store. I only saw a handful, but the prices were the same. Ys was $9.99 and Catwoman was $.99.

Ehhhh waste of time, I got Xbox Dukes of Hazzard for $10 and Ford Mustang for $5, just for the sake of buying something, really. I did have a $0.99 Catwoman in my hand at one point, but I had a "Life's too short" moment and put it back.
I'm sorry but a fucking HOARDER is not A CAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not true.

I've seen many a hoarder with their list printed from CAG grabbing carts full of games. I think there ARE a great deal of hoarders here but most don't admit it because it's not a popular thing to do.

Whether you are grabbing carts full of games for trade fodder or Ebay, hoarding is hoarding.

Hit the Macedonia, OH BB at lunch (12 PM), but someone beat me there. No copies of any of the $0.99 games or the high value $9.99's (Y's, Paper Mario, etc.). There weren't any $4.99 games (all the ones that were supposed to be $4.99 were $9.99).

I'd like to get a Y's, Growlanser or Mr. Driller, if anybody's offering any extras up.

i was one of the first few in the store this morning at my local best buy, nothing that was on my list was there. what a disappointment, i did see a few copies of bloodrayne 2 for the xbox and silent hill 4 which were the only games i remembered from the full list that weren't on my small list. didn't bother with it though so i just decided to go down the street to my walmart to get an DS with their free mario 64 and advance wars DS, but they were sold out of DS's! they even had mario 64 there too. what a depressing gaming day...

I also hit the Southfield, MI store a few hours ago on my lunch break checking out the PS2 stuff. It was pretty cleaned out (Silent Hill 4 was in the front of the shelf and was very empty). I price-checked a few things that they did have in stock, like SSX Tricky (which was a GH title), and it came up at $9.99 and not $4.99. I'm not sure how many Rocky titles there are, but the only one the store had was still $19.99 (again, it might have been a different title).

One interesting thing was there was a Southfield police office standing at the door with security; he was just standing there watching...something. And when I went over to the games with the title list I printed, employees kept checking in with me and finally a security came over and started browsing the strat guides near me. Probably unrelated, but I found it amusing nonetheless.

I was going to check the Novi store, so thanks SevDustFlyer for the heads-up. I'm not even going to check the Westland store because, while they seem to have the best employees, their stock always seems to be the worst. Oh well...better luck next time, I guess...
I went to the Best Buy in Beavercreek, OH. All they had were a bunch of Max Payne 2's up front for $5. Nothing on the shelves. I asked for Paper Mario 2 and was told they arent going to carry it anymore.
Thanks for the report. Are you the same Dingleberry from Dayton Lan Fest?

Went to the Lawrence, KS one at 11am for some games as I was running some other errands but they were out of the five I looked for, even checking the computer with one of the guys working there.

Games I looked for were:
FF: Dawn of Souls
Lttp (GBA)
Paper Mario 2
MGS: Twin Snakes
LotR: Third Age

I was talking to the guy there and he was surprised at the number of people who knew about the deal and how they found out about it. Some other guy told him a bunch of his friends knew about it so it seems like we have a few more bargain hunters around town than I originally thought. Unfortunately, the guy I talked to also said a couple of guys grabbed most of the games so we also have some hoarders. Getting posted on FW probably didn't help. Most CAG deals that never make FW are usually still available in town but once they hit FW, there goes the neighborhood.

I still never understand these sales. I know they need shelf space, but why drop, for instance, Paper Mario from $40 to $10 at once. Why not drop it to $20, make an extra $10 cash, and not have hoarders go nuts. Same with Dawn of Souls- nothing like going from $30 to $10 when a lot of people would have bought it for $20, especially since the coupons would still work.

SI

I was wondering if anyone here has checked any of the NYC Best Buys and whether it was worth taking a trip after work. Unfortunately, couldn't go to BB early because of work, but don't want to take a trip out there after work for no reason.

Thanks!

Holy sheet, you got owned. You overpaid on almost all of those.. especially Crash 'N' Burn! Holy crap..

Waste of time, Any games listed at $4.99 THAT THEY DID HAVE was either $9.99 or higher. I was there less than an hour after openining.

Hmm... I just called over there an hour ago, and chick said Star Wars Starfighter and Rocky Legends are stocked. Not really sure I want to drive down after work now, but I might as well. Thats the problem with mentioning store names before you can get down there yourself...

Hit the BB in Orange, CT and was welcomed by an unfriendly sales staff who knew nothing about the deal and games with the old price stickers still on 'em. I wasn't able to find anything worth picking up. Oh well...
Holy sheet, you got owned. You overpaid on almost all of those.. especially Crash 'N' Burn! Holy crap..
That is why I still have my receipt, I can still return what I don't want .. Maybe I can use it as trade in.. Gotta do more research what is worth and not worth it.

Amen!!!

Anyone score an extra Silent Hill 4?
I have Metal Gear Twin Snakes for trade or money too.
I also have minor wants in :
Excitebike
Thug GBA
Zoo Keeper
Namco Museum
Midnight Club 2 Xbox

stopped by my local one this 10 am all they had was;

SC Pandora T
NBA street
MOH rising
BLood rayne
True Crimes

I only managed to get True Crimes and SC.

This comes up every time there's a huge sale like this, but could those of you who say "My store had this and that and I left plenty behind for other CAGs" either make sure you have your location listed in your profile or somewhere in your post?

kthxbi.
As for the hoarding.. I know first come first serve and all, but buying up 10 copies of Catwoman is just ridiculous.
Let the punishment fit the crime. Having 1 copy of Catwoman is punishment enough. 10? He must be in Hell.

Had 11 or 12 different titles that I ordered Saturday available for in store pick-up. Got to the store today to pick up my order and was not too pleased to find out nothing from my order was available for pickup . I thought the actual store staff have to confirm stuff is in stock before they email you back saying "Your Order is Ready for Pick-Up"? They said my beef is with BB.com and that the computer was screwed up. I'll see if I can get a GC out of them...

Good thing I ordered those 11 or 12 games Sunday to ship as a backup (before the price drops happened).

Went to the store in Milpitas, CA (ran into 3 other CAGers that were there before opening) - they had almost nothing. Got Yager for $1 but that was it. Ended up coming back to work and buying 5 games online (prices were sometimes higher, and had to pay shipping, but at least I got some games I wanted)

I got:
Ty2 (xbox)- $5
HP: POA (xbox) - $5
MechAssault2:LE (xbox) - $10
Tron 2 (xbox) - $5
Crash Twinsanity (xbox) - $10

$45 including tax and shipping - decent, not great, not horrible.

If you are in the area, don't bother to go to the Milpitas, CA - it had nothing at 10am.

Picked up a few things from the Best Buy in Mankato, MN. They had Mechassault 2, which was the main one I wanted (though for $10), and had one extra copy left when I was there. They had a bin of the $10 and under clearance games in the front area of the store. Off the top of my head, here's what the store had left as of noon, if anyone around there is interested (can't remember the system for most of them):

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, a few copies left for $5 each
Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, several copies for $10
Digimon Rumble Arena 2, several copies for $10
Godzilla: Save the Earth, several copies for $10
Mechassault 2 LE, one copy at $10
Had 11 or 12 different titles that I ordered Saturday available for in store pick-up.

When you get the email about "Your Order is Ready for Pick-Up", the items are supposed to have been pulled by a BB rep, set aside in the in-store pickup area inside of the customer service area, and acknowledged that all items have been pulled and verified to what's been ordered.

If you arrived after that email's been sent out, and within 8 days of the email being sent, all of your stuff is supposed to be waiting for you. If some of it is missing, or all of it is missing, someone screwed up big time.
