I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

I took a trip this afternoon to see if there really were any of those games at the store...and to my surprise there was ONE , YES, JUST ONE of all listed games at the store. So, even if the sale is real, the reality is that unless they're pulling these games from the shelves today or already pulled them, you will likely find NOTHING, when you show up on Monday. Oh, well...

i know it was early cause all the good ones were sold out by 1pm central

They MUST be pulling games. Chessmaster, Y's, Texas Hold'em, and High Roller Casino are all missing from 7 best buy's in my area. Umm, no way they're all sold out. Just a week ago I was in the store, and I've alway's seen these games there. I'm sure they didn't sell that many Texas Hold'em GBA games in a month. I'll be going tomorrow to see what the deal is.

There isn't much on the list that's exciting me except for a few games I actually want to play like MegamanX Command Mission and Silent Hill 4. I also wouldn't mind having Excitebike on the GBA or Final Fantasy 1&2 GBA. I'll try to get to my local Best Buys during my lunch break or after work--but I won't cry if all the hoarders buy the games out before I get the chance...

9-12 does not mean 9am to 12 pm...it means that it starts 9/12, which is tomorrow...


anyways...does anyone know if BB pulled most of the games to the back until the sale tomorrow? i definitely dont think that some of the games on that list sold out by now....i really want astro boy and when i went today, there werent any :(

i think they pulled them cause i know for a fact at least 10 of those games where there friday and now they are not... ALso i noticed alot of Carts holding games what i didnt look at (They got pissed the last time i messed with games on a cart)

Ya, im with you on this one, they have to be pulling them. I went to my local bestbuy and saw absolutely nothing when i know for a fact that they had a whole bunch of yagers last time i went for penny guides on monday. I dont think someone bought them all, because at least the game tags would still be there, which they're not.

I'm expecting maybe a big table with all the clearence games tommorow morning.
 
Went to 2 BBs in NYC today and they were goldmines. Picked up Paper Mario, Ys, Growlanser, FF1+2, Incredibles, etc. If anyone in the city is reading this, the BB on 86th and Lex had TONS of Growlanser left and the one in Noho had a few Ys.
 
I just got back from checking out two best buys and I found a whopping four titles at both stores combined.

NGC - Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
NDS - Mr. Driller
NDS - Zoo Keeper
XBX - Blood Rayne 2

I found this peculiar, considering I specifically remember seeing multiple copies of some of these titles fairly recently, some of them being relatively niche(stuff like sega superstars, growlanser generations, yager), making it even more odd. I really hope they're holding stuff back but I'm not really anticipating it too much. Oh well, I'm going tomorrow anyways to pick up mr. driller, maybe I'll get a surprise.

BTW, for anyone in the san antonio area, these are the ones by ingram park mall(NW L410) and the one by san pedro, by the airport(NE L410/~281). Didn't check out the Best Buy by Live Oak.

i take that back... THey may be pulling them and resending them to the wherehouses. most of these games are discountinued (hell they didnt even paper mario 2 in their data base anymore) So they might just be pulling them all to resend.... Im very tempted to buy 2 more games right now online and do a price adjust tomorrow

i also noticed that no results came up on the BB website when you searched for paper mario. same thing for astro boy. i wonder what the deal with that is?

how many Ys did you get/see from the 86th store? i was there last thurs and they had about 5 and went today at 2pm and had none, was disappointed. Forgot to look for Paper Mario, damn.

i just had a similar experience. My local best buy had many of these titles less than a week ago.. i went today to make sure they still had them and to plan out where to go first in the morning and every single one of them had been pulled.. no empty spots or tags on the shelves, nothing.

I'm hoping they just pulled them to the back in preparation for tomorrow... my worst fear is that the employees found about about this and are all holding games for themselves in back.

Hopefully this is online as well.

I went to that same Best buy and they didnt have anything worth mentioning the only games I found for XBOX were

high roller poker
midway arcade

I think they might have pulled the games pff the shelfs until tommorrow

PS There was no Paper mario in the Bestbuy I looked for it

Wouldn't be surprised if they pulled them. That store has gotten more organized as Ive noticed theyve gotten a new staff in the Videogame dept.

They actually pulled the latest round of penny guides for once, much to my dismay.
and they actually put the 1 cent stickers on all the old guides that are too old to send back. That has never happened before

Just got back from the Montgomery BB... somebody came in and bought an assload of stuff today. I mean, they had 10 Catwoman's last week. Eyetoys are gone, Growlanser gone, only one of Bard's Tale, didn't see Jedi Knight Academy, no Mortal Kombat Dec., etc etc... I know that they had the Eyetoy last week as well as Growlanser and a slew of Catwoman. The Montgomery Hoarder has struck again

Well, I'll probably snag Chessmaster to play with a friend of mine online. If I can find a PS2 game to get with the coupon, maybe that too. If only I could get away to Auburn tomorrow...

That's what happened in my neck of the woods when they had their $5 clearance over a year ago. An employee told me point blank that he was more or less "tackled" by other employees as he went to place the $5 tags behind the games to officially start the sale. He said within about five minutes all the employees of the store had cleared out all of the good games for themeselves saving him the trouble of actually putting out the tags. :cry:

did you see they buy these... Like i said before i think most best buys are sending them back to the main company since 90% of this are discountined UPC codes.

Wouldn't they just be doing the equivalent of "pennying them out" rather than giving them clearance prices then? If they're sending back some of them, they would be sending back all of them.

Yes but good luck finding it as they are gone. I went to 2 bestbuys and both didnt have it then I walked next door to circuit city and long and behold like 20 copies of paper mario.
 
i work at bestbuy in fun and games and there is no way we would pull games and then put them back out monday we want to get rid of them and all the people wondering if employees know about it yes we do it was posted on our toolkit acouple of days ago
 
I concur, it sounds like they're sending them back as opposed to someone clearing them out or employees pulling them temporarily until the sale starts since best buy's clearance sales are mostly passive, in my experience. I might be wrong though.

I don't think they pulled anything - I just bought quite a lot :) Did you guys buy any of the Growlansers? I bought 2 but they had at least 6 when I left. I bought 2 copies of Ys. The Noho one, like I said before, still had one copy of Ys but that was as of 2:00. It's probably gone now.
