CAGiversary!

Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

I picked up the following combined from two stores(Northridge & Fox Point stores in WI): Dragonball Z: Buu's Fury GBA, Rainbox Six 3 Xbox, Rocky PS2, Ty2 GBA, MTX Mototrax PS2, all for the stated list prices. Most of these games looked like they were sold out before the clearance was announced, as I haven't seen half of that list in best Buy in months.

If anyone would like to trade, I have Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life and I want Paper Mario 2 (preferred) or Midway Arcade Treasures 1

Meh, both Ys and Growlanser went back order status for me. I'm cancelling it next Monday if the status doesn't change. (The e-mail said that more might come in stock 9/17/05, but I'm not holding my breath.)

the bestbuy in brooklyn, ny pratically has nothing (at least nothing in the GC/GBA section, and virtually nothing for the ps2) but i did manage to pick up my second taiko drum master for $15 after GGC :D

If anyone has Final Fantasy Anthology, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Y's, or Paper Mario 2, I'll gladly trade them a Castlevania non-GH, complete, in good condition, for any combination of two games from that list. Maybe one if we can work something out.

Sounds like more people are disappointed than happy with the deal today. i for one am happy...Tron 2.0 (XB), Spyro (XB) and LOTR: TTA (GBA) are on the way...SH4 (XB), MK:D se (XB) and MGS:TS (GC) are backordered with an expectant ship date of 9/17 (not holding my breath). I was a little disappointed that I could not get a copy of Dawn of Souls...that was until I was at the mall and stopped in FYE and there on the shelf was an unoppened copy of Final Fantasy Origins (PSX) for 14.99 less: 50% off. So for $7.98 I essentially got Dawn of Souls...and long load times.

I went to BB today, there was nothing on the shelf that was on the list. I went to one of the workers, and they had 'the list', which consisted of 6 crappy games. All of their PSX games vanished, I'm not sure when they got rid of them all. Wasted my time and gas money, but it was a nice thought anyway.

LOOKING FOR: ASTRO BOY (gba)

HAVE: STREET RACING SYNDICATE (ps2) & ROCKY (ps2)

PM me if you want to trade or if you are requesting something else for astro boy (gba)

Harvest Moon rang up as $29.99; Narc was $9.99; Conflict Vietnam was $9.99 ... So I guess not all stores are partaking in the clearance. I did find a copy of Ys for $9.99 though.

im happy with the deal...im just greedy...im to the point where i always have over half of the games that go on clearance on any sale...which makes it harder to become happy off of these sales...

You are very lucky getting a copy of Y's. Maybe the Harvest Moon you found was Another Wonderful Life? Wonderful Life was on sell and it is normally $19.99.
Pretty crappy sale. I got 2 copies of Paper Mario and thats it.
Hi, I was looking for Paper Mario but didn't find it. Is there anything from the Best Buy sale you didnt' find that you'd trade for Paper Mario? Thanks!

I picked up

PS2 Growlanser Generations
GC Medal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes Players Choice
GC Megaman X Command Mission

Wanted to get Y's and Final Fantasy 1/2 but no luck after checking three BB's.

Did find a PS1 for 25 bucks at Sears though.

While I agree that "drive slow" is a decent song, I still think addiction is the best song on the record.
Now thats a fuckEN HOARDER that should be shot for having NO LIFE.
buying $300 worth of games isn't necessarily being a hoarder...depending on what your defintion of a hoarder is...if he/she is hoarding just for themself, to either play or give out as gifts, then i see nothing wrong with it...but if he/she is hoarding every game just to resell, then that can be frowned upon, though i dont really care because theres no use in crying over something that will always happen....all of that said...he/she could've easily had bought $300 worth of games of all different titles, which could've been for him/herself to build up his/her collection...which i see no harm in...

they're still people to be hated though ;)

The first Best Buy I hit had PS2 Sega Superstars and XBOX Incredibles, both at $9.99. Not as good as the list, but still pretty good prices. They also had a smattering of games I wasn't interested in, but not a whole lot.

The second Best Buy had nothing except XBOX Yager. Lots of 'em. Some of them had yellow price tags for $4.95. I took one to a cashier. The dialogue alone was worth the trip.

Me: Could you tell me how much this is?
Him: Sure. (stares at screen) What? It's 99 cents!
Me: Okay. I'll take it and these gift cards.
Him: (to next cashier) Hey, have you ever heard of a 99 cent XBOX game?
Her: (bored) Yeah. I sold like five of them earlier today.
Which ones? Im about to hit plano, frisco in a bit
I found FF1+2 in Plano and Ys at Walnut Hill and Growlancer at Midway. Yeah, did a lot of driving. And picked up some $5 fodder too.

I just got back from the BB far away from my house, and got lucky. I got Y's: Ark of Napishtim for $5. fuck yeah.

Still didn't manage to get Silent Hill 4 on the Xbox or Paper Mario though...

Would anyone reccomend Driver 3 as a good game? My BB has a couple in stock, and I liked the first one.

When I went today before they opened there was already a dozen people waiting. Half of them with a list, ranging from 15 yrs. old to senior citizen. This is what I found at the Pasadena,ca store:
GBA: Tarzan, texas hold up, world champ
PS2: Narc(buncha copies), eyetoy(2 copies), scaler,ssx tricky
XBOX: rocky legends and silent hill4 (5copies)
Silent hill was the only game I wanted, I guess I should have gotten a few for people here who wanted it. sorry guys and girls:cry:

I agree with that as well. $300 worth of games doesn't mean you're hording, since I know I bought more than that in the CC sale, 95% of it went to other CAGs. High dollar amount doesn't mean they're hoarding.

If they're turning around to resell on eBay, then yes, death's too good for them. Using this opportunity to boost their collection or some gifts, that's OK in my book. Straight to resell them, if that's the case, then stone them to death with broken Xboxes.

it's nothing super, but for $5, it's more than worth it for the car physics alone... the insane jumps and insane cops just make everything better.... play survival... :)

Went in one store on lunch today, picked up the GBA Tarzan game and took it to some guy to price check it. He said, "it's 9.99, that was an online special only." I hadn't even asked about a sale or anything. Anyway, I looked and there was a UPC sticker over the UPC on the box (like they did with Harvest Moon: AWL). Looked around, nothing else there. Damn.

....If it wasnt for mcgavinletter, i'd buy alot of ps2 games with the $5 off coupon, then lug them over to FYE.........but they dont sell games anymore where I live.........screw you mcgavinletter
Gone are the days of expecting only a few to know of sales such as this. With the exponential growth of the community, people inflated with the greed of get-rich quick schemes (this mainly coming from Fat Wallet), and such information becoming much more available.. the good ole days of expecting to conveniently be able to snag Cheapass good games are now a thing of the past.

I waltzed into the CC sale in 2004 in the evening and got one of everything I wanted. The good ole days are long gone (as much as I hate to say it).. we've gone from a bit of a secret to waging war with fat women from Fat Wallet over copies of Catwoman (maybe she wanted some Wal Mart lingerie or something, and the Ebay funds are her plan of attack).

Well... who knows.. maybe one side effect of this is that Gamestop has more "display" games to claim as new, but that's a totally different thread in itself...
The lid was blown wide open on this sale because Gamespot advertised the sale along with numerous other sites.

My BB does good game volume year round so i didnt expect much. They didnt have ANYTHING marked though. The few game I wanted from this deal they didnt have in a long time.

Did get Zookeeper for my fiance and the last Taiko Drum Master for $20 though.

Just something I noticed....stopped at EB on the way home and looked at some of these games used prices at EB.With an Edge discount there is only a $1-3 difference in price.

went to Best Buy in west windsor, NJ, today, met a fellow cag there, to our surprise, nothing was on the sale price at all but we did find some of the games on the list :(...?? bust for us i guess....

Anyone cag folks been to either of the BB in wichita,ks and if so what does the stock of gba and xbox games look like. I live an hour away and do not want to waste gas if it is not worth it

Went to my local Best Buy at 10am this morning. Several people were waiting for the sale. There were several of the mediocre Xbox games from the list (didn't check other systems). I picked up a few for my 5 yr old (Incredibles, Lemony Snicket, Midway Arcade) but they rang up $9.99 at the register. :( Good price, but we have plenty of mediocre games already, I didn't want to spend $30 for some more. I was tempted to drive to the next Best Buy, but I couldn't justify spending $20 on gas. :p

They had these blue stickers on all of the games, but they were on some games not on the list. So I thought I might as well try, but no luck.

Plus, the douche manager said MGS and Second Sight were 9.99, even though it says 4.99 here. So...yeah, I got screwed.

Anyone else find games that weren't being sold for the price listed here?

I went to two Best Buys before work today. All I found was Paper Mario and Astro Boy (but for $9.99, not $4.99). I was surprised because there were still about 3 or 4 Paper Marios left after the one I picked up and there was guy there who was clearly hoarding clearance games. He was at the register when I got in line and I was there with another guy who had picked out about 10 games. The guy in line made a disparaging comment about the first guy just getting games to sell them.

Anyway, the Astro Boy is for trade. I was hoping for Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls, Sega Superstars, Silent Hill 4, or Ys. If anyone has an extra, I'll hapilly trade/buy it from you.

This is why I like online websites like ebgames.com, who actually KNOW what they have in stock for the most part unlike Best Buy who seems to be back-ordering a lot of games. The only game I have on backorder right now is Wolfenstein. Growlanser, AstroBoy, and the few other Xbox titles I ordered are still "being processed" which probably means they haven't gotten around to my order yet, and will probably end up back ordering them eventually.

I knew my Best Buy here had dick, but I did pick up 1080 Snowboarding for $10 and Namco Museum GBA for $5. Namco Museum rang up at $15, so I pointed out the price difference on their website and they price matched it for me. So, if any of you guys are saying these games aren't on sale at your B&M store, point out the sale at bestbuy.com of the games you want on one of their online kiosks in-store, and hopefully they'll price match it like mine did. My BB also had Godzilla Xbox and TMNT 2 GCN, but passed on both of them for now at $10. Might go pick them up later if any of my orders online go on back-order.

All the titles were pulled at my store. Only ones that werent were Midway Classics and Astro Boy - both of which were regular priced.
