My girlfriend has a 3ds so I'm trying to build up her game library a little bit for her.
Shortly after the Chrismas holiday season. All of the nintendo dog titles, steel driver, pilot wings, and maybe something else don't remember, most likely another crappy nintendo launch title.

Steel Diver and Pilotwings are not "crappy" at all. The problem was the price. But the games are very good.

And Nintendogs... not my (our) cup of tea, but the game is not bad. It is a very well done game.

I wasn't too impressed with Steel Diver, and Pilotwings was fun... but the allure of high trade in at Gamestop made me trade these in rather quickly...
They also had Madden, the Sims 3, and the Bubble blast game (can't remember exact name).
Bust-a-Move Universe... I'm still playing it from when I bought it.

Now, those are crappy games (well... Bust a Move is good, but it should have been an eShop game).

Thank you my previous crappy launch title statement is validated.

Pilotwings was fun but not worth the original price since the game was so short, if you didn't care about the free flight mode or retrying the missions for better medals, it could be completed in a few hours.

Madden I played once and traded in

They also had Clash of Giants: Dinosaurs for $5 around the same time. I picked up a ton of 3DS games for super cheap that month, which was awesome as I had just gotten my 3DS (and with the deal I got it was almost like they gave me one). I loved Best Buy for a couple of months there, than they broke up with me (i.e. banned me from trading in) and now they only call every now and then when they are lonely and desperate (have a increasingly rare, can't pass up sale).

Hmm...wish I would got those 3DS games for $5...my daughter would love the 3 nintendogs games...wouldn't have minded steel diver and madden for myself for $5.

Picked up Sin & Punishment today (ordered last night with in-store pickup). Haven't played my Wii in ages, but couldn't resist this. Time to dust it off!

i was one of those damn flippers picking up 3 of each 3 nintendogs/steeldiver/whatever $5 game and flipping it back in the next morning. damn i miss those days. i am why we can't have nice things.

You're in for a treat. It is an awesome deal for $5. I picked it up when it was new and traded it while the value is high. But I'll be picking up my $5 copy when I go to get Max Payne next week.

I would have certainly gotten her Steel Diver and Pilot Wings and maybe Bust-A-Move.

Shame I missed those though she only got it for Christmas.

So far she has: Zelda, Mario, one of the nintendo games (came with system), dream trigger, and the hollywood crimes game.

that hollywood crimes game was painful. A bad version of Professor Layton.

Bust A Move can be had relatively cheap on amazon and at target clearance. They completely screwed it up with no head to head online play but it's still worth $10.

I hate when people use this excuse for Pilotwings. The whole point of the game is to retry the missions for better medals. It's the same thing with Star Fox 64. It's not worth $40 because you can "beat it" in 1 hour? It's an arcade rail shooter. You can get a TON of hours of gameplay out of it by going for gold medals between N64 and 3DS versions of Story and Score Attack mode.

This current gen of gamers have been molded by FPS mediocrity to have the mentality of "I saw the credits roll; therefore I am done with the game since there is no online multiplayer."

amen, i'm a gamer from yesteryear, being a kid i would perfect megaman stages and time everything well enough to make it through with almost all my health (huge feat for being in elementary school). Later, it would become an obsession to beat the emerald weapon and ruby weapon in FF7. And its only evolved since then. Good games always have a way to keep your interest long after you "beat" the game, i hardly consider people who only play FPS as true gamers, its almost like saying someone who watches MTV is a music connoisseur

I agree.

I keep and play my old games just because they are great games and even at my age I still imagine I am stepping into that characters shoes and going at it once more against .

Achievements be damned.

Yup. My favorite is people who complained about the "campaign" in Left 4 Dead being too short because there are only four levels. Talk about missing the point.

I think there are many people here who don't understand the difference between gold medals in Pilotwings/Star Fox and trophies/achievements on PS3/360 (though both still serve as a great way to extend the life of a game).

The gold medals aren't visible to any other player but yourself. They serve more as a way to keep track of which levels you actually put effort into instead of skimming by on "very easy casual mode" with bronze.

I understand that many modern gamers enjoy putting as little effort as possible into everything they do in life, but some of us older gamers used to play games for more than a credits roll and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing an improvement in skill.

Uh, this is my exact point. Gold medals in said games are rewarded for higher point totals. They are score attack games in the same sense as Pac-Man.

Out of curiosity, is English not your primary language?

My bad. You're just so randomly aggressive and off-topic in your other posts around the site across various threads so it is hard to tell what the tone of your intended message is.

I mean, to be fair, this whole tangent started by you saying "A true gamer doesn't care about a damn trophy." when we weren't talking about trophies at all.

I love trophies... I am also pretty close to hitting level 14 on psn and I get like 4-5 hours a week if I am lucky to play games lol
Lmao. They're either a tween or a follower.
This is rich coming from someone who tries his/her hardest to sound like a teenage girl with all the internet memes and abbreviations.

I'm not a trophy/achievement whore but I understand why they're there. I mean, just cause old school gamers didn't get a trophy for a speed run didn't mean we didn't do it over and over.

But to the original point: judging a game by how long it lasts is pretty dumb. I'd rather have 6 hours of great gameplay than 60 hours of bullshit hit A button over and over.

the whole trophy thing is a big letdown. i remember when they were going on about psn home and how you could see your trophies in your space i always imagined youd have a room with trophies on cases all over but no you dont get shit aside from some games that gave you mini statues or a giant useless treasure chest.

When Mr. Harrison made those predictions for home, I'm sure no one in Sony knew what they were doing with home at that time.

I had to laugh at the 'true gamers' don't care about trophies comment. I've won (not anything major) fighting game tournaments, cracked Gamepro, EGM2, and Nintendo Power high score charts, and 1cc shit like Ghosts'n'Goblins and several Contra games but since I like trophies, I'm not a true gamer.

Also, I'm waiting for Best Buy to put some awesome deal up.

I think BB has already done there daily update today since the other DOTD page was updated a few minutes ago.

1st week of May - BF3 and Just Dance 3
2nd week of May - SIN and the Black Ops controllers

Looks like they are doing about 2 video games DOTD per week... :whistle2:k At least we have Sunday to look forward to.

:dunce:

If I was going to try to define what a "true gamer" was, I'd probably start by saying it's someone who understands that the whole damn point of gaming is to have fun, regardless of what you are playing, or how you're playing it, and does just that.

But if the whole elitist thing, and telling gamers what they should and shouldn't be doing in their games based on your own personal preferences works better for you, that's fine too.

Tweens or followers. Since I can 'tell' you what to do, I guess you know, at least, 1 list you're on.

lol. yeah chunli barbie is the authority on gaming. you are only a true gamer if you game the same way they do. i enjoy trophies so im not a real gamer. lol. that being said, i just got 100 plats. Woot!

I bet that list of yours is written in crayon.

I suppose the thrill of finally beating Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine as a kid is invalidated by the fact that I also have a trophy AND achievement showing this, huh?

Guys, consider getting ignored by ChunLiBarbie as an achievement in life. He is ridiculously useless and probably the least "gamer" of us all.

What we need is a DOTD, dammit.

I used to play that game!!!!! Got fast as hell!!!!!:hot: However, I don't remember trophies/achievements on that. :nottalking:

Maybe you're a tween who just started playing it on the newer Sega disc or something...#-o

I just looked at EBay to see what happened with Sin and Punishment, people are selling for as little as $10 shipped. With EBay fees and Paypal fees and shipping they are losing money (I got $10.05 when I added everything up). Why buy something to resell to make no money on it?

Well said, well said.

I am not as extreme as ChunLi. I could give a crap as to why you play games. If you have fun, great, your a true gamer! Congrats. What I guess I agree with her/him about is that many reviews/reviewers give higher scores and whatnot to games that have trophies and achievements. I am sorry but THAT I think any 'gamer' would not give a crap about in the end if they believe that the game is good.

For example, Uncharted 2. I loved that game and could care less if it had trophies or not. The fact that it does doesn't make a difference to me and I wouldn't like it any more or less based on that one fact.

Now if your telling me that if it did not have any achievements you'd pass on such a great experience based on that alone, then in my OPINION I don't believe that you care as deeply about games as much as someone as myself who plays games to play great experiences.

I am all for the higher score deal. How could I not be? I loved the Arcades back in the 80's. But again, I can't say that if they didn't have the high score list in the arcade machines I would've stopped going to my favorite arcade and wasting quarters like a madman. The score deal was a bonus, not a deal breaker. The games wouldn't of suddenly had less value and to hell with them. I am sure that millions never got their names on the lists of Mrs. Pacman or Galaga. However that didn't stop them from wasting their time and money on them.

You are all free to disagree with me of course.

Back on topic.... BB had great deals, then goes on a PC gaming deal thing...then seemed to die out...then comes back for a little while with decent deals again....and now is once again on hiatus. I dont get it....do they not want people to keep going to the stores everyday or are they still trying to figure out what they have a million extra copies of and want to unload?
