Are you suggesting that people who believe in supporting game developers can't be interested in Best Buy's daily deals?

Sure, I write about games for a living and yet I don't know about the gaming business - if you say so. Yes, obviously the publisher was paid for the games when they sent them to the retailer. New sales still contribute to the likelihood of the retailer ordering more games from the publisher in the future. Not really interested in debating it beyond that though.

what you don't realize is that studios (especially large ones like EA) pay their employees discretionary incentive bonuses when games sell well/exceed expectations at launch/receive high ratings from industry media/etc. so put simply, if more consumers buy a new game (ie at launch), studios will give their employees more money- usually as an incentive to work even harder on their current project and keep them from looking for work else where.

unfortunately since im a freelance/contract artist, i don't receive these perks but my peers who work in house at different studios have all received some sort of financial compensation when their titles sell well (esp. at launch). u wouldn't believe the bonus activision gave to treyarch employees when black ops came out

What cocojames doesn't know is that if you have product sitting on the shelves, you can demand concessions from publishers, especially if you're the size of best buy.

So yes, even though they bought the game to begin with, it doesn't mean EA has already made their money.

But I guess he's one of those people who he accused of getting into slap fights who dont know anything about the business just to do it.

That's the thing though. I've been interested in some games that ended up super glitchy. Some of them are fun to mess with(GTA games), while some are just frickin' annoying(Dead Islands' online co-op which completely freezes your PS3 about every 2 hours).

While they may not be 100% perfect games, I have bought quite a few at launch or very close and for full retail tyvm. The short list include: GTA IV(Special Edition no less for $90), GTA IV Episodes, Just Cause 2, Lord Of The Rings: War In The North, Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, Catherine, Saint's Row 3, both Little Big Planet games and their subsequent GOTY editions, Red Dead Redemption/Undead Nightmare and then it's GOTY edition and Darksiders.

There's actually many, many more to add to that list. But that's the ones I remember off the top of my head.

That's due to your shitty connection, not the game. There may be problems connecting to people, but it doesn't normally freeze people's PS3s.

Luckily, GF discs don't come with random stains and hairs.

And I'm not saying they are the same thing, so I don't know why you took issue with what I said. But they are comparable. They are the same game. I'm not going to pretend that a used copy of a game in good condition, along with a brand new condition case, manual, and online pass from GF isn't more or less the same TO ME as a new copy just because of the technical definition.

There was actually a pretty well known issue with freezing when trying to play online Co-op (at least on ps3). I believe that got patched a few months after release.

I've gotten nothing but garbage from GF and one had some nice clamp (?) grooves on 4 sides of the disc, couldn't even trade it in. Unless it is out of print, new or nothing for me.

Actually everybody I've played with has had freezing issues and I know one of them is a fellow CAG and has a much better connection that I do.

Yeah after reading quite a few post-patch comments, I see many others still having the same issues as you. As you mentioned, definitely not a connection problem.

I tend to have patience for very few racing games. But in the past few years the 2 (Or 3, if we're counting Mario Kart 7 as one) racing games I've really enjoyed we're NFS Hot Pursuit and Split Second. Split Second is a very underrated game.

My friend and I just finished Dead Island and I agree there are either lag or freezing issues when playing the game. We played for about 40 hours and had around 4 freezes, and 8 reboots because it didn't allow me to join my friends game. Still enjoyed playing but would had been better without the glitches or freezing.

Freezing issues aside, the game is painfully short. I work at a video store and took it home one night. You can beat it in one sit-down (6 hours, if you have the day off), which makes it really hard to justify the purchase. Even at $15 (or $10) you'd be better off just renting it. The controls are also very "floaty."

Note: Yes, Hot Pursuit > The Run.

That's not necessarily true, the reason why they don't mind buying used is to save money. With gamestop, that's hardly ever the case.

For me, if the difference between new and used is within $5, I'd rather buy new, especially if there is online pass involved. I don't even play online :lol:
