That's the same thing people said about Circuit City, Montgomery Ward, Borders etc..
Those stores were painfully obvious though. I see Sears/Kmart going before BB.

I should add Montgomery Ward wasn't really due to operation as much as being bought out by Mobil or whatever oil company bought them.

And I miss Borders :( Why do good stores have to die
And I miss Borders :( Why do good stores have to die
Because customers abuse the crap out of them until they collapse. I can't tell you how many times I walked into a packed Borders where people were sitting and drinking coffee they purchased from whatever vendor paid a pittance of rent to operate inside their store and then proceeded to treat the store like a library and private magazine rack. You can't make money when people treat your store as a showroom for Amazon. It's scary how much Best Buy parallels Borders in that respect.

Kmart/Sears are constantly shopped upon by the elderly, poverty, rednecks and while it used to be embarrassing to go inside, that is what is keeping them afloat. They still use the same 1980's computer systems and fail to renovate any stores I have ever seen.

Best Buy's troubles are clearly documented, straight up to their CEO ripping them off for millions. I never would have though Circuit City was going to go bankrupt, but I see Best Buy following in its footsteps. I personally don't think they will make it until the end of 2013. I hope I am very wrong.

I like reading manga. And fantasy books. As well as historical books and fine literature. If I were to buy 1/4 of the books I read in a bookstore, I'd have to sell my house, my car, all of my possessions, and live under a tree. Books are so expensive, they cannot be bought anymore.

Note that I am exaggerating, but the point remains. Besides, I like reading in a bookstore than at home anyway.

Shop at Circuit City, where service is state of the art!

Blockbuster: Go Home Happy.

No it isn't! Junes shut down almost all of the stores in the shopping district. Tell those people that "Everyday's great at your Junes!"

This. The showroom effect has been getting worse over the years and is coming to a head. This is why many big box stores are closing and being replaced with smaller kiosks, which are much more profitable. However, as for the previous poster who said they are having massive layoffs...lol. They are laying off a measly 2 percent off their workforce from what I read. That's nothing more than an adjustment to market forces. When it's 25% let me know. In tourist areas of the country(like where I live), its not uncommon to lose 50% of the workforce in winter(happens in KMart by me every year) so the latest layoff announcement was a joke. Anyway, I love the store and will keep getting great game deals there to the exclusion of all their competitors whenever I can. I don't invest in BB directly so don't care about their "net" proceeds and neither should anyone else here. I'll keep shopping there.

if tera is a deal of the day, and the coupon in the magazine is for tera... maybe we can get it free... if they aren't on the same day then maybe the game isn't doing so well.
if tera is a deal of the day, and the coupon in the magazine is for tera... maybe we can get it free... if they aren't on the same day then maybe the game isn't doing so well.
According to some people, TERA's DOTD is before the coupon goes into effect.
That isn't the point; the point is NOT being a douche. There is a HUGE difference between using something to your advantage and taking advantage of something.
Potato, potato. To me, using something to my advantage and taking advantage of something means the same thing.
Since you are banned from trading at Gamestop AND Best Buy and rumor has it you pulled a bitch move and wrote a letter to BB because they wouldn't let you buy penny guides I don't expect you to understand.
In case you haven't read the trade thread in a while I have done several game trades to BB recently. As for the penny guide thing, what I have or haven't done doesn't matter anymore as BB themselves have instituted a system that blocks the sale of them 90-95% of the time as of now.
I am more worried about people ruining the good deals at Best Buy them I am about them hoarding games. People can hoard all they want but inevitably something has to give If everyone abuses the low sale prices combined with high TIV something is going to disappear--whether that be the sale prices or high TIV
Normally they lower the tiv's to below the sale price, thus making them unprofitable. While it may not be 100% kosher to exploit it when they forget to, many of us see no issue with it, especially if it lowers our cost out of pocket for the copy we intend to keep down to nearly nil.
WTF does that have to do with anything? Of course they are your games but you don't legally have the right to trade them back into best buy.... and you of all people should now know that.
We don't legally have the right to trade them back into BB if we bought them using legit coupons from copies of the magazine? How so? There are no restrictions on consumers as far as their trade program is concerned when it comes to trading in games aside from the 1 to 3 per title per year and even that's murky at best due to the reports of people being told it's 1 per year(like me) and the BB forum people themselves saying it's still 3 per year.

Now on the other hand, I have heard from numerous employees at BB who have told me that they aren't allowed to resell anything bought with their employee discount.

Because you wrote a letter to the publishers and they gave BB hell, you self-centered delusional twit!

Went in to pick up 2 of my b2g2 games (the others are shipped to store), and found out they were still sealed with the Microsoft security slip still on it :D. Someone must not have known the difference.
I sure hopes its the tera collectors edition.
Seems there's a storm brewing in the TERA community at the moment. Very interesting read and not surprising something like this happens when you give the players of the game too much power:

Maybe it Wasn’t a Good Idea to Let Players Fight Each Other to Run a Video Game
by Luke Plunkett

"New MMO Tera isn't just notable for its lavish visuals, it's also trying something new with its endgame. Those getting to the pointy end of the game can be elected as a member of the "Vanarch", Tera's in-game parliament.

Players are elected to the office, and once there can mess with all kinds of in-game variables like toggling player-vs-player combat and imposing taxes.

A recent change to Tera meant that a Vanarch could be elevated to the position via faction combat. In other words, the game's sides could duke it out and the winning side gets to promote someone to Vanarch.

Which sounds wonderful in theory, but of course once it hit the real world it all falls apart. Factions have begun creating what are essentially dummy groups that do nothing but get killed, creating duplicitous cannon fodder in the name of easy kills, and thus an easy road to power.

See, humanity, this is why your MMOs can't have nice things."
Does BB price match their DOTD prices? I bought the Zach Brown Band CD a few weeks ago and now I see it is half off.
Take your old receipt with you. If they deny you a price adjustment, buy it at the DOTD price, then return it with the old receipt.

Sounds like a very cool idea, it's a shame that some ruin it by exploiting the system.

my favorite example of this (most notably in MMOs) is how a game that's difficult is unpopular but mindless games are all the rage.

Not saying this is the reason why most people do this but I do cancer research as a career...sometimes turning my brain off is exactly what I want.

I have no problem with this... but to be expected to pay $60 for the same feeling I get staring at walls seems a bit extreme. In fact, if the wallpaper is that trippy pattern kind I get more enjoyment out of that than a lot of retail games.

Agreed. I like games that require you to think also but sometimes I just want to run around killing stuff. :)
Blah blah blah, how about that deal of the day?
I don't think we're getting one today... I'm actually surprised by the tera dotd because it's in the mag. Maybe they didn't want their dotd to be too good since they have a b2g1 going on too.

Perfect example... Diablo 3. It's a cakewalk for the first 2/3 of the game but then you have to think and prepare for fights and people get pissed off. I enjoy mindlessly killing stuff too. That's why I own Dead Rising ($10) still throw that in after a rough day of work.

For anyone who didn't like NG3 after they picked it up, looks like it's trading in for $24 at best buy with the current 50% promo. It's like they're paying you to try it!

It's more like you have to drive around just to realize that you shouldn't have bought the game in the first place.

Thanks.
Random Observation: How is some eBay sellers able to sell at $28 suddenly after the BBY DotD is beyond me.
I guess it could be alright if you're into the xbox stick placement.
talking about lag and things like that...bought a madcatz controller and it is very very laggy
wasnt interested before, but since it has the 360 analog stick placement im in for 1. now i won't feel like such a retard when i play shooters on ps3. wish it was wireless tho.
Exactly what I was thinking. I blow at shooters on the ps3 for that reason. I'll be grabbing one of these.

EDIT-price is live.

Is it really that much of an improvement? I kick ass at FPS games on the PS3, but I've been using the PS controller since PS1 and I've never played with an Xbox controller so that might explain it.

. Something about the sticks not being off center really hurts my playing. I do just fine playing COD/BF on my xbox but get slaughtered when playing on rhe ps3 Guess its because I played nothing but my Xbox for 3 years. For $10 I'll give this a try.

i've been using the ps controller since ps1 as well and i love it for every kind of game except shooters. my ps controller analog sticks feel alot looser -most likely from being used so much for other games-, so when i play shooters the looseness translates to reticules flying all over the place and me dying. the 360 analog stick -to me- feels like it has alot more resistance which makes using the analog sticks easier to control in accuracy dependent situations. also, the ps controller's small size makes the controller layout feel kind of claustrophobic for my hands and my thumbs keep hitting each other when i try to move/aim. the spreadout analog sticks on the 360 controller alleviate this problem. ha, just bought one after all.
