I figured the warehouse was just hiding them until the sale was over. another Best Buy conspiracy.
any scoop on the 8/5 - 8/11 deal of the days?
Dragon Quest IX for $9.99 Tuesday, and Star Wars: The Old Republic for $14.99 Friday.

Other geek things that may be of interest:

Wednesday: Thundercats: Season 1, Volume 1 (DVD) - $27 off
Thursday: Supernatural: The Anime Series (DVD) - $36 off

I didn't see if anyone had shared the gaming DOTDs yet since I don't particularly enjoy going through page after page, but apparently the beans were spilled to employee news sources Wednesday, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't already here somewhere. By that logic, maybe someone can fill us in this Wednesday on the next gaming blowout from Aug. 12-18 - which my body is not ready for. I'd love to help but yesterday was my final shift with the company.

Thats sucks bro. Good luck with your future endeavors. Looks like nothing for me. That Thundercats set looks great, but its mainly for die-hard fans (which im not). Guess my wallet's safe from bb until the 12th.

Don't cry for me, I'm moving on to FT with benefits and pay that actually puts me just above poverty level!

Too bad about the timing, I would've loved the ego-padding of being the one to leak the blowout deals. Ah well.

I know you or whoever made that poster is trying to be clever but... FAIL.

It's not a deal to us CAGs but it's also not exactly the same thing as paying for it all at once. But I think we've gone down this road before.

I'd also tell folks here to check Hot Topic for the old Thundercats sets, since they were going down on price there every time I checked. I originally bought them at $15 for each of the first two seasons or so, if I remember correctly.

It's still cheaper than Rent-a-Center.
It's still cheaper than Rent-a-Center.
About $400 cheaper... Seriously, that deal is not too bad for someone who cannot afford the full price up-front. Nothing wrong with more purchasing options in my opinion. This is just a test run for what might be the perfect business model to sell next-gen systems. I worked at a Rent-A-Center for a brief time and can attest to how bad people get ripped off with everything, not just electronics. But the console deals are ridiculous at those rental places. If Microsoft can get even a sliver of that market then thats all extra customers that they might not have had otherwise. I know quite a few people that are going to jump on the $99 deal as it is. Im pretty sure that the only way a lot of consumers are going to upgrade next-gen is if this sort of deal is in place. It works like a charm for cell phone companies, so why not attempt it for game consoles?! Eliminating any possible barrier of entry should be a top agenda for all game hardware companies, especially in the face of increased mobile-game competition.

And just to stay on-topic, whats the game deal of the day today? I feel like there hasnt been a really good one for awhile now.

A dollar today isn't worth the same as a dollar 2 years from now.

That really isn't a bad deal at all for someone who wants a 360, but doesn't have the extra $$$ to make the purchase at once.

If a next gen console package like that 360 deal popped up for Sony's next machine and they were able to negotiate a decent internet speed and bundle it in with the console package for $X amount per month then I might just bite sooner than 3-4 years into the next gen.

But I have a feeling we're going to see Sony and MS trying to copycat Nintendo with the touch screen controller/tablet deal this next gen AND charge at or near $500-600 for their next consoles AGAIN. In which case, they can kiss my ass till their consoles reach $300 apiece MAX.

You may be on to something. Xbox may be testing the $99 360 to see if they can sell their next console the same way. If they sold it for say $299 with a 2 year LIVE contract they would move a ton of units and make all of their money off LIVE rather than the hardware. Interesting...

Interesting. I took this opportunity to look into it and apparently what I had linked before has 33 episodes, or about half of season 1. What you linked has 12 episodes. FWIW.

edit: But apparently that first release/bigger release/what's being marked down that day has pretty poor video quality, according to Amazon reviews. Looking at the page for the newer S1 release features the samn damn reviews, annoyingly. I'll look more into that later; I'm interested in picking up the set if it's worth picking up.

I'm sure they are considering it (if the Wii U is a success) but there is practically no real buzz about the Wii and it launches in a matter of months. We'll only see touch screen controllers with the 720 and PS4 as the norm if the Wii U takes off as a hit. Otherwise, I bet they are going to focus on working with pre-existing tech (cell phones, tablets, etc.) saving them tons of money in terms of hardware production but allowing them to still expand beyond just the console (Glass seems to be the foundation of just that).

Have to say, the PS4 may end up being make or break for Sony. The PS3 kind of caught up, but was clearly in third this generation and the Vita is starting to be called a flop not just by fanboys (I can tell you that as someone who runs a game site there isn't nearly as much interest in the PS Vita reviews as there is for most other systems).

Obviously, that's true whether you save or borrow but inflation is hardly a good reason to be in debt especially when it hasn't affected prices. But yeah 4.8% APR wouldn't be bad if you like loans.

Are you talking about interest in reviews of the Vita itself, or Vita games? The installed base for Vita isn't nearly as large as most other systems, so I wouldn't expect much interest in Vita game reviews relative to games on other systems.

Personally, I haven't read a Vita game review and probably won't until word of mouth (and probably a price drop) convince me to get a Vita.

Since everyone says the Vita flopped, I'm personally waiting for a great Black Friday Vita bundle. 100 or bust. No way am I spending 200 for a portable when I could grab a pretty nice bundle (judging from past Black Friday deals) on a current gen game system.

That's kind of the point though. I had the fortune of having a new author with a vita join just as the Vita launched too, when hype would of been highest and they generate interest (don't get me wrong) but compared to even our reviews of android and iPhone games they are often behind (he has really liked a few of the games he has reviewed, if that matters to anyone). Just a result of a small user base, but the small user base is the result of a lack of sales. For the record, 3DS game reviews don't fare as well either. Though we are kind of an indie gaming site at the core, so that plays into it as well (our built in audience and such).

Let me tell you right now that you absolutely will not own a vita in the next 12 months if you are waiting for a $100 price point (new).

Good grief people are so unrealistic.

Oh and good comparison about the price points being the same on a console that is nearly 7 years old and a handheld that hasn't even been out 6 months

Just thinking about a $100 vita (bundle) makes my mouth water.

Or I could buy the knock-off vita for $100 that emulates PS2 and N64 games

People that expect $100 Black Friday deal on a Vita needs to put the pipe down.

What are they smoking?

The Vita is a great handheld and I see the future only getting better. The system isn't even a year old and people expect it to have 100+ games (excludes psp/mini).

Most the Vita owners I know love the system and have zero regrets on picking it up on launch.

Well then, great call my friend. I could care less if they release a 100 dollar vita bundle. The only reason I would want it would be a quick pick up and forget about toy. And get the sand out of your vag, what's so bad about dreaming :D

It's only been a little under half a year, the 3DS has stronger IP's to fall back on and that's what saved it after the initial slump last year (that and the price drop of course).

Summer has been a drought for Vita more than any other system, but the horizon looks pretty good; on the way is a healthy mix of enhanced re-releases, cross compatible retail and PSN games, and a few exclusives. I think the 1-2-3 Madden, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty combo will help move a decent amount of systems the rest of the year.

I own a Vita and I share a different opinion. I think the Vita is following the same failed recipe of the original PSP. Games on the Vita are typically a copy and paste of the PS3 version with touch controls slapped on.

Madden 13 is a scaled down version of the PS3 game. Sony needs to come out with games that are designed around the Vita's strength. Games on tablets and smartphones take advantage of the device.

Sony needs to follow this formula. We'll see if they can pull it off but so far this device is headed the way of the PSP Go.
I own a Vita and I share a different opinion. I think the Vita is following the same failed recipe of the original PSP. Games on the Vita are typically a copy and paste of the PS3 version with touch controls slapped on.

The PSP failed?
It made Sony millions. It didn't sell as well as the DS but it was profitable and still sold over 70 million unit. The XBOX 360 has only sold about 67 million.

Is the BMW M3 a failure because it didn't sell as many as a Toyota Camry??
Is Skyward Sword a failure because it didn't sell as many as MW3??

I think the 3DS is following the same failed recipe of the original DS among hardcore gamers. Games on the 3DS are typically a copy and paste of old franchise with 3D slapped on.

The PSP hardware numbers were artificial. They were superficially padded due to high piracy. Third party developers bailed on the platform because of it. Only a handful stayed.

I was comparing the Vita to the PSP Go more than the original PSP. :bouncy:

I'm a Vita owner too and so far I've really enjoyed it. I love having a portable version of some of my PS3 titles since the game saves sync for many dual platform titles allowing me to take it wit me in a trip and pick up right where I left off. I think Sony should promote this better with discounted PS3/Vita combo packs (much like the BluRay/DVD movie combo packs).

That said, I agree that Sony needs to learn from their PSP experience and give more support to niche developers. The PSP was little more than a portable emulator device for me for the first several years. Then it became a haven for niche developers and retro style JRPGs.

My biggest complaint for the system is its lack of UMD backward compatibility for your existing PSP physical collection.

lol, sure.

The M3 is a complete failure because it is too expensive and can't match the Camry in sales because of it!

Come on BMW. Lower the price already. I'll buy when it reaches $11,000. New of course. And don't sell me a GS "newsed" one either!

Man, at people thinking PSP was successful for Sony. It sold well in one region, Japan. Any money Sony made off of it Japan they lost several times over due it being a massive failure for the rest of the world. PSP was a failure for them.

Considering Sony lost billions last year and has so far lost over 300 million this year the the PSP profits, which don't even exist, doesn't help them at all.

$100 is unrealistic, but there probably will be deep cuts soon. Quality is, unfortunately, the least important metric in determining the long term pricing of a product. Most people I know who have a Windows Phone love it, but the platform was still more or less a failure in terms of market penetration and sales. Two of my favorite games this generation where failures (Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Vanquish), people need to understand that success does not necessarily determine quality or vice versa. And yes, the 3DS is more aimed at casual gamers, which is undoubtedly why it has sold better (but the 3DS hasn't even really been amazingly successful; dedicated mobile consoles are a dieing platform thanks to smartphones, whether we want to admit it or not).

A little overly pessimistic, but a more realistic view of Sony's current situation as it pertains to gaming than the "but all my friends who have a Vita (all 2 of them) love it! It must be a success!" attitude. In no way am I saying the Vita is bad, but that simply put; Sony can't afford to keep making and shipping a product not selling well and developers can't afford to sink production time into a platform without a strong user base. Which is almost identical the problems facing Windows Phone.

Sony biggest problem is they won't adapt when things don't go their way. Look at what Nintendo did. 3DS was doing poorly so they dropped the price and a steady supply of first party games since has turned it around for them. Meanwhile Sony just shrugged their shoulders, showed a CoD banner at E3, and called it a year.

I would also like to apologize for the way I acted in the Best Buy towards you Budz.

I think Sony leads in giving love to niche developers, for example the upcoming game soundshapes which includes both versions for vita and ps3. The others being journey, flower, pixel junk, etc. I'm also looking forward to ragnarok odyssey on the vita, looks great.
