Once again I must reiterate my hatred of Best Buy. No, this is no longer a hatred of Best Buy. I loath Best Buy. I despise Best Buy. I've had it up to here with them. fuck BEST BUY! fuck YOU BEST BUY! fuck you Best Buy. There is not one corporation in this world more than Best Buy that I hate and would love fucking die and rot in eternal damnation. I hope that they go bankrupt with a fury.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

So this is how my story goes. So today I remember that my one lady friend is supposed to be having her birthday this weekend. So not really knowing what to get her I decide I'll get her a box set of her favorite show since she really likes it and talks about it quite often. So I get in there and don't find the season of it that I'm looking for. Oh well, I still have a few days I'll look else where I think to myself. But like any good CAG and gamer, I head over to the game section just to peruse it. Low and behold I find a Tomb Raider that I've trying to find ever since these markdowns. Also, I find a SW: Republic Commando guide, which I know is .01, and a PoP: WW guide which I've been trying to find for a long time and which I know has been pennied out since a few weeks back or so. I also find some of those X-Arcade MechAssault 2 discs that turn out to be free. So I grab a couple (one for me and one for my friend). Instantly like a flash of lightning, some fucking employee (seemed like a manager trainee) comes out and says that it can only be one per customer. Not really feeling in the mood to argue with him I just take one and think that my friend will just have to go by himself to get one. I head up to check out where I stand in line for what seems like an eternity for the cashier to ring up the 3 people ahead of me, when I finally make it up to her. Then, again as though lightning had struck, these two fucking employees/managers come upto me and start BS to me how they've talked to me in the past before and that they won't sell the guides to me and will only do them at 7.99. I said to the "what the hell! Have I done something wrong, I'm just getting rung up here". They keep on harrassing me even though I haven't done anything to the point where I'm just fed up with it. At this point I've taken enough of their bullshit and just dropped all the items I was holding and just told to their faces that Best Buy and them could all go fuck themselves and that I hope they fucking rot in hell and stormed out. Great night, have always been wanting to say that to Best Buy and was finally pushed to the point of doing it.

To all Vegas CAGs out there, and I know there are a lot of you on this board, stay away from the Stephanie Best Buy. They are just not worth it. That store in particular is the worst store i have ever been to. just thinking about what happened there makes me want yell out. fucking assholes. I have never been treated at a store like they have treated me. And all of this is after I had complained to BBB and BB Corporate. I had thought that something had been done with that store. The time earlier in the week that I had gone had the fat bastard of manager there that I complained about to BB Corporate, but today there was a different manger so I guess my bitching to them wasn't widespread at that store. Should have gotten that manager's name and bitched and complained again to them.

Anyway, I will still do my civil CAG duty and say that if there are any Vegas CAGs out there that are wanting some guides, then that store seems to have gotten more Need for Speed: Underground 2 guides. They also have a couple PoP: WW and one Republic Commando if that hasn't been taken to the garbage or to the back and destroyed.

End of rant.
So they wanted to charge you $7.99 for guides that ring up as 1 cent? I would have made a big stink about it. I can't believe you left without getting your way.
So the $5 off PSP/PS2 coupon doesn't work on the $4.99 games (like Psi-Ops, etc)? I thought some CAG were able to get these games for free.
It's worked the times I've tried it.

you are an idiot. Best buy has a legal obligation NOT to sell those guides for a penny. if you get them somewhere, count yourself lucky. if a store will not sell them, don't complain, just go somewhere else. your outburst makes you look like 100X the moron of the employees doing their jobs.

I got it to work this week for Psi-Ops. The cashier didn't think it would work (because the coupon amount was greater than the price of the game), but when he scanned the coupon, the system deducted the current price ($4.99) and a receipt was generated. Just don't expect a penny in change. ;)

call up the 888 best buy line and get these people in trouble or even fired. im sick of best buy as well. I went into one best buy store and the %#$# manager came up and outright said "the will refuse to honor any price matches that i bring in" Probally due to the fact they got Chew out back in Jan when they said Meijers didnt have a game in stock to do a price check when in fact then had over 30 copies in stock.

i found 3 demo disc penny each and 2 Tekken 5 guides if anyone needs them. Hate to see how much it cost to ship something this heavy
Best buy has a legal obligation NOT to sell those guides for a penny. .
Actually, they do.

If it's ringing up for a penny, that is the price. It is at this time that a manager could say "I'm sorry, we aren't able to sell these to you, they were supposed to be thrown out". That would be at least halfway decent.

But trying to tell him they are 7.99, and manually over-riding the price to charge the customer more? I don't think this is right. I know at one Best Buy a friend was told that "You have to buy the game with the guide to get the guide for a penny, it's a special sale!".

I went in the next morning and the cashier working there let me buy all the guides I wanted, and said "They must have gone clearance.. I guess we're getting rid of them. This is a good way to do it!". I wish all employees were as cool as her.

It seems that instead of a Best Buy manager or employee just saying "Well... they are .01 cent, that's a good deal" they have to get all retarded about it, and then pull any sort of excuse out of their ass to rip you off.

I think what Hiccupleftovers is so angry about is not that they denied him, it's that they were treating him as an idiot customer and extorting a higher price out of him. It's like if you went to buy a new game, and the manager came over and said "49.99? No, for you, this game will be 69.99"

I don't think they will be missing the .23 cents in business you brought to the store. :)

Just shop at another store and avoid BB if you do not like the way they do business.

It blows that some employees and managers have to act this way, but your experience really does depend on the people you're dealing with there. You might want to try going back at different times on different days when these jerkoffs aren't working, or you could always try a different store location altogether.

I know that if I got talked down to like this I'd be pretty upset about it, but this should also give you further incentive to find a way to beat the system there. Maybe if these jokers didn't recognize you they'd leave you alone. Dress or comb your hair differently next time and see if it makes a difference.

The same thing happened to me at another store with the Rebel Strike demos for a penny. I grabbed 3 of them (1 for me, 1 for a cousin, 1 for a friend). I go to the register and the cashier decides to be a jerk and not want me to get more than 1 so she calls over the manager. The manager comes over and says something about store policy says all penny items are 1 per customer. Then the cashier has the nerve to say to me after the manager leaves that Best Buy is a retail store, not a place for wholesalers. That comment really pissed me off because if I had 20 of the discs, yeah I could understand why she would say it (but still shouldn't have been said), but I only had 3 and she made the assumption I was going to resell them just because I had more than 1.

While I sympathize to an extent, let's keep things in perspective here. These are penny guides we're talking about; probably for games you don't even own. I don't think it's worth the effort and negative attention to put up a big stink about it since now those workers will remember you and probably share stories about you amongst themselves. I would have just simply would have let the matter drop quietly and try again later with a different crew. Also if you're patient, these guides will start to penny out at other stores too. No reason to get bent out of shape about it.

As an aside, still looking for a KOTOR II guide; I have most of the other guides including Jak 3 and RE 4 available to trade. Check my list.

But it still dosen't give managers the right to treat us like trash, try to change prices on us or make up stuff to trick us.

Looking at this thread and some of these stories (and from my own personal experience), Best Buy seems to treat the majority of their customers like garbage - I know I'm not renewing my Reward Zone card, and will take my business elsewhere instead.

It is apparent that you succeeded at BB in getting some of the guides but others were given a difficult time.
You should go pick KOTR II (at another BB) up yourself and maybe get put through the situation that some others have experienced. Don't get bent out of shape if it happens.

I went to the Pasadena BB last night and all the pennied out guides I wanted were gone (no surprise) except for Xenosaga II - 2 copies left, I picked up the one in better condition.

When I checked out, the cashier told me that some other lady came in earlier and took a STACK of those pennied out guides.

If anyone managed to pick up a copy of the Devil May Cry 3 guide book and would like to trade with my copy of Xeno 2 guide, please PM me.

That's right, I won't get bent out of shape. That's the whole point. I have been denied guides many, many times, that's why I speak from personal experience. Causing a scene never helps, I guarantee they are not losing any sleep over losing a few cents of business. I was trying to give some friendly advice but I can see how it could have been miscontrued so to the original person who had the bad experience, just to show I didn't mean to minimize what you went through, if you're willing to cover shipping, I'm willing to send you a spare Tekken 5 guide. PM me if interested.

Anyone in los angeles or the beach area (possibly near NORCO too, since I work out there but live near manhattan/redondo beach) have an extra copy of DMC3 or RE4 that they want to trade with another CAG. I am in redondo beach but would be willing to drive to you if you are within a reasonable distance and just want to trade guides. I have extras of the following guides: metroid prime 2, kotor 2, tekken 5, nfsu 2, lotr tta, a couple more. PM me and I can get back to you with a complete list of guides I am done with or that I may have extras of to trade.

If I got a couple of PS2 $5 games, and gave them the $5 coupon, which game would it deduct from, or would it deduct from all of them. I know that BB coupons work weird, and that sometimes if you give them a coupon, it deducts from everything.

I might pick up some games cheap for my little cousins, or some to donate.

The coupon will only knock down a single item. Multiple coupon use is at your peril.

I'm looking for the KOTORII guide... if anyone can help out, I'd be very grateful. I have most of the other guides that I would trade for them, plus some from the last round... a list would be nice but I am too lazy right now - if interested, PM me.

I went back to the middletown, NY BB tonight and picked up:

BG&E (PS2) - $4.99 after $5.00 off coupon
JamPack 10
2 Xenosaga II guides
1 Kingdom Hearts guide
1 Mortal Combat: Deception Guide
1 Shark Tale guide

all for a grand total of $6.52....I definitelty feel like a "devil customer" lately  !

They still had one copy of Astroboy and 2 copies of Breakdown when I left, but the only penny guides I still noticed were a bunch of NFL Street 2, a FN:R2, some Shark Tales, and a Xenosaga II.

So I guess Shark Tale is a penny guide? I don't remember that from the list but I did see one tonight - would have picked that up as I plan to get that game for the kids when I can find it for less than $10. Darn, I probably won't be able to make it back to the same store again.

If anyone lives near Germantown, MD I think this is where I saw it. Plus, this store has the most newer guides of any of the 5 Best Buy's in the DC area that I've gone to (going to one more tomorrow). As of just before closing, they still had Tekken 5, RE4, Republic Commando, (NFSU2 maybe?), and several of the older ones like Spyro, Mechassault 2, Men of Valor, etc... They had one last Xenosaga 2 but I snagged it. STILL haven't found the 2 I REALLY want - Jak III and KOTOR II. No problem bringing 7 up front and paying 7 cents. Unfortunately, they DON'T have any good cheap games there, though there was one copy of XIII sitting in the Greatest Hits display. I didn't have it in me to try to get that for free with coupon AND get the 7 guides - so it's still there if any of you want it - you can thank me later :D.

The Gaithersburg store didn't have any good guides, but I was able to snag a Crash and Burn and pair it with a Tomb Raider to get both for about $5.25 total. The cashier informed me that since Tomb Raider was so cheap I actually got it for free! I acted sufficiently surprised :D.

I checked the Best Buy near me and they were cleaned out of guides and $5 games. So I went to another one that I saw while out of town with a friend, and found Psi-Ops (last copy), NCAA Football 2005, March Madness 2005, and Breakdown.

Then I went to TRU and found an Ace Combat 5 guide, and a MGS 3 guide, along with a RE Outbreak guide.

So it was a good day :)

Both Best Buys were cleaned out of guides though :(

Hit up 2 more DC area Best Buy's today. Rockville had almost nothing - 2 copies of Tomb Raider (with the Red Baron pizza coupons!), and a few of the guides like NFSU2 and some of the older ones (Spyro, Mechassault 2, etc). I was denied on getting just Tomb Raider for free with the coupon (there was nothing else there that I wanted so I figured I'd give it a shot). Cashier said "I can't use this coupon because the game is only $4". I didn't bother arguing, just said thanks and left.

The one in Tyson's Corner has at least 5 Xbox Crash & Burn, about 2-3 GBA THUG, and some XIII's. I picked up one of each, used the coupon, and got them all for $10 + tax. So that is definitely the way to do it - pair up your $5 PS2 game with a $5 Xbox/GC/GBA game or two. I suppose you could just get 2 $5 PS2 games and use only one coupon, but that's not maximizing your cheapness :D.

Have yet to see ANY Astro Boy or March Madness 2005 (which I actually would like to play). I did manage to pick up a GC NCAA Football 2005. I had traded my 2004 in a few weeks ago to preorder 2006 at GR. I might switch that preorder to something else and just play 2005 (if I ever get around to it).

I just came back from Best Buy and picked up some older guides. It's all that they had, sadly. I got:

Call of Duty: Finest Hour
Driv3r
Mechassault 2: Lone Wolf
Goldeneye: Rogue Agent

I'm looking for SW:RC or NFSU2. If you want to trade either of those for any of these guides, please PM me.

On another note, LOTR: TTA rang up as 14.99, not .01. Weird, but o well.

The Buckland Hills Best Buy (the one right across from Circuit City) had 2 other PoP: WW guides I didn't get, 2 copies of Breakdown, 2 copies of DBGT, and like 5 copies of that ps1 NFL game. The games were marked 4.99 though.

I have an extra copy of Breakdown that I'd trade for Astroboy, Crash N' Burn or I'd sell. PM me if you're interested.

I actually just tried doing this and was prepared to pay $5 for my Astroboy and Psu-Ops but to my (pleasant) surprise, the cashier on her own scanned the barcode twice on my coupon so I got both games for free. So it might not hurt to at least suggest to the cashier to try to scan it twice.

Hmm nobody's listed Call of Duty as a BB penny guide before. Can anyone confirm this? I know it was a penny at TRU but I couldn't find any there.

Marin City, California.

Got the last copies of the DMC 3 and RE 4 guides. They had plenty of copies of Castlevania GBA and Psi-Ops for PS2 left. This particular Best Buy even had their Metal Gear Solid 3 guide price tagged 1 penny. The girl at the register thought it was cool that they were so cheap, so I am glad I didn't run into any problems that other CAGers had.

also found a copy of Beyond Good and Evil (PS2) for 10 bones for a friend of mine.

I got
THUG - GBA
Tomb Raider - PS2
March Madness 2005 - PS2
Astro Boy - PS2
NCAA Football - GCN
Breakdown - Xbox

all for $14.97 plus 8.502% tax

They gave me all the PS2 games for free since I had the coupons w/ me. Also Madden and Live for PS2 were still $29.99.

I went to the Poughkeepsie, NY BB today and they had 1 copy of NCAA Football left, 2 Breakdowns, and a few NFL Street 2 guides, but nothing else. I didn't end up picking anything up, but I thought I'd post to save someone the trip if they were thinking about heading to that BB (Unless you're looking for any of the above items of course ;) )

I have been doing the mall tour while I have been here on vacation in NY. I hit the Palisades Center BB in West Nyack, NY Today. I picked up the last Copy of Crash N' Burn and the Last Copy of THUG (GBA). I also Picked up the following Penny guides: Psi-Ops, NCAA Football 2005, DOA: Ultimate, and ESPN Basketball 2k5. They still had some copies of Breakdown when I left, and the following penny guides: Star Wars: Republic Commando, DOA: Ultimate, Def Jam: FFNY, KillZone, MA2: Lone Wolf, LOTR: TTA, NCAA Football 2005, Shark Tales, and a couple of more. I would have picked up a few more penny guides, but I didn't have my list with me.
