Just got this email:

The game is changing. New benefits. New rewards.
It's a whole new way to play the game.

Reward Zone® Gamers Club is leveling up. On September 12, 2011,
you will begin earning double points on new game software, including
digital content and accessories purchases. Plus, for $14.99 per year,
you can join the optional paid level—Gamers Club Unlocked—where
you'll enjoy access to even greater benefits: REWARD ZONE GAMERS CLUB
• A free subscription to @Gamer, the exclusive gaming magazine

• 10% off all pre-owned software purchases

• 10% bonus credit on trade-in software

• Reward Zone Gamers Club exclusive offers
Between now and September 11, 2011, you will continue to earn 500 bonus points for every $150 you spend on video games, PC games and video game accessories at Best Buy® stores or BestBuy.com®.

Then on September 12, 2011, you'll automatically be part of the new Reward Zone Gamers Club. And you'll have the opportunity to visit a Best Buy store and 'level up' to Reward Zone Gamers Club Unlocked. And because you’ve been a loyal Gamers Club member, we want to give you a preview of the new club. So going back to June 1, 2011, you'll also earn double points on all new software and accessories purchases.

All this plus the Reward Zone points you earn every day for nearly all your Best Buy purchases, including gaming hardware. For the latest Reward Zone Gamers Club information, visit MyRZ.com.

I'm not sure if the doubling points thing actually benefits us. The way it's worded, it sounds like they'll be getting rid of the 500 bonus points for every $150 in game purchases. Which means double point purchases is actually a downgrade since we'll get 300 points instead of 500 points for every $150 spent.

The $15 a year thing is the same price as a @Gamer magazine subscription right now. Not sure if the 10% saved on trade ins and preowned games would be worth it enough.
I like the new chart that tracks your $100 preorder promo progress at myrz.com.

One thing that it reminds you is:
Please set a higher certificate preference level so that you receive fewer certificates in higher denominations (five $20 reward certificates instead of twenty $5 reward certificates, for example).

I am going to miss my silver membership...the banking feature is so nice. Being able to get a RZ cert in whatever amount whenever you want make the program much more friendly. I wish they did this for all the accounts.

Edit: Just saw the chart. THIS will hopefully get people to sign aboard who had worries. It is obvious BB is serious about making this promo work.

anyone who subscribed close (within a month) to the change on Sep. 12 WILL get a coupon, just in a letter mailed to them. if you got your Sept issue in store instead of mailed relax, you will get it. still pisses me off, because i wanted to stack Unlocked with the extra 50% Gears 3 promo which ends Saturday, but who knows when i will get the coupon in the mail. found this out searching the BB forums.

FAQs for existing @Gamer Subscribers:

What if I already paid for an @Gamer subscription?
All current @Gamer subscribers will be mailed a coupon to join Reward Zone Gamers Club Unlocked for free! @Gamer subscribers will also receive a coupon within their September issue to redeem within any Best Buy store allowing them to get the Reward Zone Gamers Club membership for free.

If I am already subscribed and chose to join in Gamers Club Unlocked, how many issues will I have coming when the changes happen in September?
@Gamer Subscriptions will restart upon enrollment of Reward Zone Gamers Club Unlocked. Meaning, if you have four issues left in your current subscription, upon enrollment you will receive 10 issues; not 14. If you have purchased the two year @Gamer subscription online, you will get the balance of what you have not received. For example, if you had 18 issues left to receive, you will still receive 18 issues; not 28.

What if I subscribed to @Gamer after the news about Gamers Club Unlocked went out?
If you signed up for @Gamer between Aug. 12 and Sept. 11, you will receive your coupon with a letter that will arrive in September.

As a current @Gamer subscriber, how long will I have to sign up for Gamers Club Unlocked for free?
You will have between Sept. 12 and Oct. 26 to redeem your offer.

Allow me to offer the other side of this. Two days ago I received the email telling me that I was 1 game closer to the 100 RC thanks to my Madden 12 preorder and pick up. Unfortunately when I log into my account, it only has me with 1 game to my credit - NCAA 12. Madden was not one of the original games I selected when I signed up, so it appears that even though I preordered Madden and picked it up on release day, and received that email, the system is not counting it for my 5 game preorder promo.

Same here with Madden. I even posted on the BB forums so Kyle can verify because I'm also mad they wiped out most of my transactions dating back to June for the double points.

Yeah I am starting to see people are still having issues. I guess my best response is at least they have a system in place that allows us to visualize potentially what they have on their end so when we call them we won't be completely in the dark about what is missing.

Hmm, something seems a little off there lol.
Mine says valid through 10/7/2009.

ok I think I figured it out. for the people who got a free membership coupon with their existing magazine subscription:

-they are suppose to scan your RZ card
-then scan the "unlocked" membership barcode in that new brochure to buy the "unlocked" membership for $14.95
-then scan the barcode in the free coupon to take $14.95

so the total is zero but you are now "unlocked" I just did that and its showing up in the trade in process and in myrz.com

on monday they didnt scan the barcode to buy the "unlocked" membership so they didnt enroll me.
I think this is a new brochure, when you open it up there is a spot to scan for the normal gamers club and another page that has the upgraded plan for $14.99. I will take a picture of it and post it here in a few.

EDIT- oh ok, I'll still post the picture of it for everyone

So how would I fix this now :( I don't have the coupon anymore, but on the RZ site it shows that a membership coupon was on the receipt.

Just take your receipt in and talk to one of the gaming reps. That's what I did. He rescanned and did an override.

Sweet. Great to know that.
I also tried calling BB earlier today. Ohhhhhh man that was such a hassle. No one knew what this -unlocked- club was and I was getting disconnected and/or transferred left and right.

My BB needs the sticker to get the extra 10% bonus. When can I expect to receive it in the mail? anyone received theirs yet?

Since the coupon is good until the end of October, I am going to wait until I receive my October magazine before I redeem it ... get one extra month out of it all since I am already subscribed to the magazine.

woah wait, they can't just scan the rz card and the unlock bar code? that's what they did at my best buy. i don't have the bar code anymore.

If you do a lot of trading, then it might be worth it to get it now. It would only take $50 base to pay for an extra single issue.
Same here with Madden. I even posted on the BB forums so Kyle can verify because I'm also mad they wiped out most of my transactions dating back to June for the double points.
You think this could be because Madden could still be returned right now? Like they send the email letting us know we got it, but they don't make it official on the page until the game can't be returned any more? That's my guess, but who knows.

I picked up Resistance 3 on Saturday, 9/19 and it shows 1/5 for me, so I don't think the return period is the issue.

I had this exact experience. I had to call because my store did not have the brochures (although they did not tell me this) at the time I signed up and when I went back yesterday they explained that they did not have them before and still have not received them. Anyone else run into this?

Ultimately, the fifth person I spoke to on the phone decided that the easiest thing to do was issue me a $20 gift card and asked me to go to another store and buy a subscription.

I never got an email saying I'm one closer, but when I check my account it says I am 4 away and Madden is the only game I bought. It doesn't matter to me though since I returned Madden yesterday and am not going to buy 5.

I received a confirmation email this morning. here it is:
So if I sign up in store will I be getting the 10% bonus on that visit? It seems like a lot of you are having to wait.
No, you need to wait until you get your welcome packet. it'll have a sticker included that'll allow us to get a extra 10% on trades and 10% off of used game prices. I guess we just put that sticker on our rewards cards

So is Best Buy going to be really stepping up their used game sales at some point? The stores that I've been to recently here still just have their small shelves of overpriced old crap games shrink-wrapped in ugly yellow plastic. Granted, I don't even bother looking often anymore, but I've never actually found a game that I've wanted in their used selection. Also, even if I did find a used game that I was interested in, I would absolutely insist upon removing the shrink-wrap and inspecting the contents before I'd purchase it, which I'm sure they'd frown upon. I don't see a value in getting 10% off used game prices when they don't even have anything that I'd want to buy.

I've noticed the stores around me have expanded their used game area. I few months ago they really didnt have shit to buy but when I was in there yesterday I was surprised to see how big they had expanded it. I really think they're serious about getting into the used game market.

That's good and all as I've noticed that in stores in my area as well but they need to start dropping prices on the used games if their new counterpart goes on sale. It only makes sense.

Yeah that was one thing I noticed, they're used prices are fucking high! They really need to work on that.
Well, you can't have it both ways guys.

Either high trade prices or low used prices.

I pick high trade prices.
They've got to strike a balance. High trade prices aren't going to last if they mean that the price they have to charge for the used games is so high that no one buys them.

The company that processed the trade-ins and used the yellow shrink wrap/yellow case is no longer. The new company does it the same way as AWD. Normal shrink wrap and a sticker on the back over the UPC.

The store I work at was only receiving about 10-15 games (alot of doubles) every 3-4 weeks but the downtime was because the older company couldn't handle the volume. We got a shipment a couple of days ago with about 100 used games......more used games in that one shipment than we've received total to date.

Something to also note is that the amount of trade-ins a store gets determines the amount of used games they receive. Not idea if its determined on the amount of units or the dollar amount or what.

I totally understand the reasoning behind this but with the amount of flipping that has occurred there are going to be stores left out in the cold and some with too many games. Lets face it...CAGs will trade hi buy low so those games could be sitting for a very long time. They need to get their online portion up and running.

You're forgetting the other side of the coin and the reason flipping doesn't 'break the system'. The people who buy these preowned games. To some people price, TIV, age of the game, quality of the game and things like that don't matter. It's pretty much 'wait I can save $5 by buying this game used instead of new?" They don't do any research and have somehow ended up in a bestbuy and want a to buy a game before they leave.

Far as stores being left out in the cold I'm still unsure if they look at the dollar amount or amount of units. So if someone flipped 50 $1 PS2 games but at another store someone flipped 2 copies of Black Ops for $50 (TIV is lower but for the sake of an example) total if its dollar amount they look at those would be equal. My store has alot of LA Noire and Black Ops trade-ins but there must not be any CAGs in the area since only one person that has dumped a bunch of old PS2 sports game (and he was also a CAG, I asked :p).

There are also send backs that occur so if a store is sitting on 10 copies of a game and they aren't selling 3-4 might be send back to a district warehouse to distribute out to other stores. It's a work in progress and although it is nice that a 3rd party handles the shrink wrapping, pricing and such it does create a longer lapse of time.

Also I love CAG but I think it represents a small percentage of people who buy games at GS, BB, NE, AMZ, etc.

Actually, I just signed up in store today, and was given my extra 10% and a copy of the magazine. The guy offered it to me before I even asked about the program.

Interesting, I was just repeating what I was told in store.

Well I looked into my missing game on the preorder deal and it wasn't Madden that was missing afterall, but NCAA. Which is weird since I bought NCAA first. I have another message into Best Buy so we'll see what happens.

For people who signed up for Unlocked earlier this week, how long did it take for your subscription to show up on the rewards zone site?

Mine took literally a minute or two. I know because I signed up, then the guy helping me couldn't find my reward zone number. (there was confusion because I use my phone number normally, but they have 2 numbers listed for me...long story). Anyway, I used my iphone and logged onto the Reward Zone site and right below my name it said "RZ Gamers Club Unlocked through..." and whatever date it is.

But now that i checked it's interesting. My Rewards Zone site says "RZ Gamers Club Unlocked through 7/22/201", but I signed up for Unlocked on the 12th on this month. I looked at the Reward Zone Gamers Club Unlocked email and it says "RZ Gamers Club Unlocked through 9/12/2012". Conflicting info. I signed up for the old Gamers Club back in July so that's probably why it's showing that date. I just don't want to be shorted almost 2 months. I've sent in a support email to BB, let's see what happens.

Damn it, my account still showing free, I went in last night with my receipt and the guy was ready to redo it, and then got confused and said it should fix itself in a day or two. Right !!
So if I sign up in store will I be getting the 10% bonus on that visit? It seems like a lot of you are having to wait.
They can give you bonus right away and sign you up afterwards. There is an option for this on the computer screen.

They have to scan the code from the Unlocked brochure too or it doesn't work. The coupon left that part out in the instructions. If they do it correctly, it should appear on the RZ website within the hour.

I'm wondering if that's what happened to me. Any one mind scanning their receipt where it worked so we have idea of what it should look like? I know it sounds dumb, but we're dealing with some people who are merely drones. None of the gaming section guys were there tonight so I didn't bother with trying to fix it or do any trades.

On the receipt you need the coupon code that you received with your mag, the code from the Unlocked card and your Rz card. If you don't have all of those, it didn't go through.
