Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Does it matter if I bring the case / manual with the game? I'm going to trade in Uncharted 3 but I want to keep the case and manual to add to my Collector's Edition of the game.
Passports? That's a new. I thought since they take your fingerprint it doesn't matter if you are using another form of ID?
The fingerprint is just for crime fighting purposes and local laws. They're not gonna bother with a fingerprint match for bans.

The banned database searches on ID number so that's why people who are banned can trade in again. (Until they get their passport banned as well.)

I haven't traded a game into BBY in over a year, and was thinking about getting back into it when I saw that 100% bonus. But then I opened this thread and saw talks of passports and joining the military.

I think I'll just stick to Gamestop.

The devil you know...

I really wish companies would only take games that are complete. Games without cases need to be left to pawnshops/fleamarkets/etc #rant

Read the motherfucking OP.
Yes, because passports are all about value.

You're like a caricature of a xenophobic American.
That's how I weigh whether or not I "need" something is by the value I will get out of it. HDtv for my games bought with gaming credit=good value.

Piece of paper that says I'm from such and such country that I even need now if I wanna go up to Canada thanks to motherfuckin' George W. Bush=shitty value.

This needs to be the response to EVERY post that is covered by either the OP of a thread or that was already answered for the millionth time just a lil bit earlier in the thread.:applause:
I really wish companies would only take games that are complete. Games without cases need to be left to pawnshops/fleamarkets/etc #rant
You can repeat this till you're blue in the face, but for the average game buyer(meaning NOT people from CAG) they just want something that works. They don't care if it's complete or not.
the only advice i can give you is if you do not want to get a ban, then never trade in duplicates. once you trade in duplicates, you run the risk of getting ban.

Has anyone been banned for trading in two copies of a game though and different transactions?
To only add to the confusion, I've traded in duplicates of games, same system, in a single transaction on at least two occasions and so far I'm okay. If they ever ask, I just say I'm trading in a friend's copy. And these are trades that are >35 days ago since I've gotten the points. I most recently traded in on Sunday so no ban at this point in time. I've also strictly adhered to the 3 per title rule (including across portable) not 3 per title per system. This is what I believe is in the online FAQ and what has been quoted to me by BBY employees. As long as I stay within those boundaries, I figure I'll be safe. So YMMV but still use common sense and try not to draw unnecessary amounts of scrutiny toward yourself. Also splitting stuff up between two stores can't hurt.

About 2 months ago I traded in 3 copies of Transformers: DOTM for Xbox 360 all to the same Best Buy store in the same month.I traded two in one trip and one in another trip.I did trade other games with each trade.I have traded since and everything seems to be fine.
If anyone is wondering why I had 3 of them, I bought them last December for $4.99 a piece when Best Buy was having that big sale with guaranteed Christmas day delivery and I was going to give them out as presents but the crappy shipping Best Buy uses didn't get them to me until Jan.2

I really don't care if my passport gets banned. I just need to get rid of all these B2G1 wii games from gamestop before then LOL. Best Buy should be like Gamestop and "take on all comers". If they just fixed their TIVs during promos flipping would not be an issue. Then again this is the company that just sent me almost 20 $5 codes for items backordered. Quite a few of my b2g1 orders got me 2 of those codes.

I'm not sure what's more wtf to me...this post or you saying Borderlands sucks.

i really wish i would of gotten in on that lol though that is awesome customer service....but i do have to wonder why they havent fixed their inventory system.
Is the TIV down to 50% now? OP has a headline of 100%, but underneath, the subtext says 50%.
No its still 100%, if you click on the link in the OP its states it at the bottom of the page. I always go by that.

Ah. Thanks a lot bro.
Passports? That's a new. I thought since they take your fingerprint it doesn't matter if you are using another form of ID?
Not every BB does that. Mine doesn't. They just wanted to see my license.

Sorry for typo, don't know how it took this long for someone to spot it/mention it, but fixed now. Unfortunately I update the OP from my phone a lot.

Sweet. It looks like I can trade in some games today and get about $72 for 5 for them, including two that I got from either DOTD's or that gaming blowout for less or just about break even.:D

After the 100% bonus & GCU, I should be getting the following:

All :ps3:

Neverdead-$10.50($.09 to 'rent' it for a month from the gaming blowout:D)
Disney Universe-$10.50(paid $8 from a DOTD)
Dead Rising 2-$12.60(paid $8 on clearance @ Target with a pp Visa converted from BB credit;))
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record-$12.60(had BB PM it to I think $20 before that was the MSRP, losing on this one:bomb:)

And the biggun:

Saint's Row The Third-$25.20(paid $40 in cred from Amazon, played the hell outta it though;))
The gaming specialist at my store said that the 100% thing was running until Oct 6th.
Same here.

That's what I was told as well, which gives me about a month to blow through the three games I picked up earlier(Prototype 2, Sleeping Dogs & Darksiders II) and maybe even give my one buddy at least P2 and DS2 to try finishing as well. Although knowing my luck he'll procrastinate like the last time I told him to do a speed run through a game he wanted to play that I picked up.:bomb:

Hopefully their tiv's remain the same as they are now, since then I can make a whopping $1 something in profit for playing all three within that time frame.

Does anyone else's stores have them trade their games in at the Geek Squad counter? This seems weird to me, when they have a Gaming Counter with a sign that says Game Trade-in as well.

I especially enjoyed being sent there with a trade in and then having to go to a separate kiosk to preorder something. Well I would have had I had more time, since the Geek Squad guy was taking a while (understandably so) helping a man with his broken laptop and after 10-15 minutes I really needed to get going to work.

This is becoming more common. I think that Best Buy is phasing out the independent gaming counters (about a year after they went out of their way to incorporate them). I've seen two stores getting a new remodel, which seems to be taking a sort of Mac store vibe to it, and in both of them the gaming counter appears to be getting the axe. Least that's what it looked like/I remember.

Before they started hiring the gaming reps to specifically do trade-ins you used to always have to go to customer service/Geek Squad at my closest two stores. Since then I've only had to do a single trade up at customer service and that only when they couldn't find the gaming rep to do them. One of the managers' I interviewed with last year for a job with them did my trade in last time.

At my closest store, the security guy standing/sitting by the front doors got the axe or at least his desk did. According to one of the managers the LP people are milling about the store now instead of just slapping hot pink BB stickers on your trades when you bring them in the door or checking receipts if your item wasn't properly deactivated before trying to exit the store.

I just came back from BB doing my first trade-in since half a year ago. I traded in 17 games and got a $392 gift card. One of the employees told me that I didn't get the highest; someone else traded in 40 games that totaled out to be $600. Time to start my preorders with these BB credit.

The Store in El Centro, California currently does not accept trade-ins because there's a problem with the signature capturing device. It's been like that for almost a week and i doubt they'll have it ready before saturday.
Just traded in Witcher 2 for $25.20. Not too shabby when it only cost me $10 + tax a few days ago.
How did you get it for $10? The coupon was $30 and the game was $50.
Was $50.
Crap. Looks like I need to get a PM hopefully. I bought this on Sunday WTF?

Is this a price drop. Not sure when I will be getting there.

Thanks also!

better do it quick, sometimes bestbuy rises / lower their prices randomly, lol

Traded in Modern Warefare 1 2 and 3 for $50 total... Wow.

Going back later this week to return Mortal Kombat and Resistance 1 2 and 3 for $38.

Before anyone says anything, I really didn't enjoy the Resistance games enough to beat them again (never played multi) and was too annoyed by the Modern Warfare multi, though that was fun for a few years.
For whatever reason, that isn't reflecting the current in-store price of $39.99 for The Witcher 2, since I checked the online page as soon as the new drop was mentioned and still saw $49.99, so it must be an in-store-only drop.
Odd. Maybe refresh... login.... or enter zip? idk, shows 39.99 for me :whistle2:s

I'll be honest...I'm surprised I'm not banned from trading cause I just realized I traded in Mass Effect 3 for Xbox 5 times...I've only started trading to Best Buy since April.

I didn't really keep track of what I was trading >_>

Man I just saw that I did not get my 10% from the trades I did today. It was only $3.20 but now it most likely won't post to my RZ account so I won't get the points either. The girl was new and I got distracted talking to another gaming rep about price matching TRU's 2 for $60. I even said to her to add the unlocked bonus and she said she would. Can't let your guard down one second with new people I guess. :)

I always check the paper with all the trade in values in case if anything dropped right at that moment or if the 10% got applied before I sign it.

I need to find my print out for my last trade in and make sure I got the 10%. I think I did looking at the total.

Nevermind, it has to be since it had change on it. And not ending in 0.25, 0.50 or 0.75.

So I guess to make sure you get the 10%, check the total. Even #= likely you didn't get it.

I see several stores are moving their door security people since all 4 stores I went to since sat. had the monitors removed altogether.

If you have any of the Naruto or Cars 2 games you should check the values
$14 Cars 2 PSP probably the highest PSP title
$12 for all other cars 2 versions
$10 Cars Race o Roma all versions(except PSP/PS2)

$24 Naruto UNSG
4 other Naruto titles net $12
2 other Naruto titles net $10
found several more gems but I'm too tired will post later

Thanks for this post, I just imagined a very angry Jason Statham trading in games he hated to a Best Buy employee who was less than willing to help.

This is likely a website glitch. All psp games should be showing 0.25
