Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
I saw those NBA Baller sets today at BB. Could you imagine living upstairs from someone trying to play that at 2am if you have to actually dribble the ball or how many tv's are going to get smashed by people losing control of the ball.:whistle2:#
Or trying to bounce the ball on carpet lol

Might flip one of those baller beats if I find out at Target, have to go in to trade in Starhawk, and all my 360 games anyways assuming the 360 TIV holds at Gamestop
sorry i was not more clear, it is sort of like the price mistake of the resident evil: operation raccon city special edition xbox 360 deal, a while back. it is not necessary in the clearance section.
So are you saying this is still YMMV, or this is an error within Target's system and every copy of Baller beats should ring up for $18?

I was at Target earlier today and browsed the clearance section but saw nothing but a bunch of crap PC games, ripped open iPhone cases and a bunch of DVD-R junk...

I'll def go back tomorrow morn at opening to snag the NBA game is I can get it for $18, then head right over to BBY and trade it in before I pick up my RE6 preorder. Wouldn't mind the extra $19.80 off ;)

I just tried to use a gift card I received from BB after trading in a bunch of games over a month ago. The card had over 80$ on it and had never been used but it registered as an invalid card. So after talking to numerous CSReps I was told that my card had been used to buy an IPhone, 4 hours after I traded in the games. I explained that that was impossible for numerous reasons such as I don't have an Iphone, but the CSR didn't seem to believe me and said there was nothing he could do. I asked if they could see who bought the cell phone or any info surrounding its purchase but they refused to give it to me. So it looks like I've been ripped off, probably by a BB employee and there is nothing I can do about it. I hope this info can help someone, I feel like someone punched me in the stomach.

I will post this on all BB threads just to give people a heads up

That really sucks. Post it in the BB Support Forums. They have pretty good reps that do quite a bit to make things right by the customers. It shouldn't be hard for them to find the fraudulent activity.

iPhone registered to XYZ person living at 123 Address...

Your RZ Acct info shows ABC person living at 890 Address...

Should be easy for them to verify whether or not it was fraudulent, especially if the iPhone was purchased by a BB employee.

Kinds happen to me. When to trade in 2 games and got $27 for them. Went a couple of days later and tried to use the gift card and they guy said there were 50 cents in it. I was like wtf. I told him that the card had not been used and luckily had my receipt paper they printout. Showed him and quickly corrected the problem an apologize.

Sounds like a freak occurrence. Contact Best Buy corporate and see what they can do for you.
Can anyone confirm that the 100% is definitely still on for today?
Well, I went yesterday and it was still on. They don't change mid-week so I'd be shocked if they didn't go through Saturday like the OP/title mention plus it was in this week's ad. I don't think the title was updated to remove the question mark.
Can anyone confirm that the 100% is definitely still on for today?
Yes I just traded in NCAA 13 for $39

Why does the 10% GCU not come up automatically anymore? I had to get a manager override...

because of the new system some workers don't know how to ring it up right to check off the added 10% before they complete the transaction

Any correct way to tell them to ring it up?

I'd like to know this too since I haven't done a trade-in in the last couple of months and was going to go today and do some while I picked up RE6.

Then again, it was always a pain the nuts getting that 10%, at least at my BBs.

Just have to tell them you're GCU and it should be a box at the bottom of the screen to give you an extra 10%.I can't exactly remember if it's a box that needs to be checked off or if they have to click on your GCU account and click the 10% bonus from there

Just had my Best Buy game manager pricematch Gamestop's $140 TIV for the wifi Vita.
Also traded in:

Rayman Origins (Vita) $21 (after bonuses, base TIV $10)

Thanks guys, reason I ask is because I do what you do Vigilante, except with me they nod, add the last game. Give me the total and receipt, I do a quick glance check, then BAM no 10% added.

I also just wanted to recheck with you guys since seems they did a few "upgrades" to their system or whatever. Someone a few pages back mentioned how they now have to add the 10% GCU before they do any transaction, otherwise the person doing the trade gets kicked out and has to restart all over again.

Guy does my trade ins never adds 10% which I remind him I'm GCU member which he asks for my phone number then does something. Guy mentioned they changed system so it took extra five minutes, but it was on my printout. Just have to remind them before sign any paper.

One quick question, BB bans via DL and not RZ # right? Reason I ask is because I traded in Mass Effect 3 a few months back and from what others have said in the past seems it's now 1 title per platform per year and no longer 3.

So figured I could just have my friend trade my copy of Mass Effect 3 since I already have the CE, but figured I'd ask if anyone knows if that could work.

Took me ~40 minutes to trade in 2 games at lunchtime because of the new system. Two employees couldn't figure out how to get the 10% GCU bonus active, and then it seems my GCU account was actually on someone else's Reward Zone!? Pulled up totally different information than mine, repeatedly. Took them a while to figure that one out.

Again she blamed the new POS system where the game trades go through the same trade system as everything else. Rolled out Sept16th apparently.

Got my 100% + 10%GCU eventually.

Yup, they updated the system again just a couple weeks ago. Some of the employees still have not figured it out.

I think that makes at least the fourth or fifth update to the system I have seen since they started taking trades. No worries though, just when all the employees do figure it out, they will probably "update" it yet again.

Wait. Your BB takes hardware trade-ins? I didn't think ANY BB stores took hardware trades at this point.

EDIT: Shit. I just checked mine and they only do laptop, mobile phone and iPod trades here.:bomb:

Alot of them do, but I've never heard of them PM'ing a TiV, I tried to get them to do it when the 3dsXL came out, but I was told they can't adjust it, just like the game TIV's

Now they might offer the best condition, becuase they can only downgrade the quality AFAIK

The PM guarantee states you can't PM TiV values. So Sharkey probably just got lucky (lol didn't mean to rhyme)

Here's the quote:

Does Best Buy match competitors' trade-in value and offers on trade-in products?

No. Best Buy does not match our competitors' trade-in value and offers on trade-in products.

Interesting. That's like when I've PM'd Amazon's prices at my local BB stores. Meanwhile others on here repeatedly say they've been told that their stores WON'T PM Amazon.

Did anyone get asked to actually log in to their best buy account on the screen? I told the guy I don't know it. He pointed the screen at me and it did have a prompt for me to enter my info.

I think the official policy is:

1) bestbuy.ca PMs amazon
2) US Stores are at their own discretion
3) bestbuy.com does not pm amazon.

Oh and I already tried to call the bestbuy.ca customer service (accidentally ;)) to see if they could pm one of my orders. Unfortunately they have an entirely different system and can't pull up US order numbers.

The problem with the 10% GCU bonus is that it is now located at the bottom of the "cart" screen under the list of games. An uninformed rep will usually click on the big green button (forget what it says) after adding all the games and will not scroll down to see the GCU lookup. If he/she does scroll down and selects it, it will give the option to find your GCU info by phone #, email address or RZ member #. A box will pop up with your info. He/she clicks that and it will give you the 10% bonus AND populate the customer information (sans DL# info) If the rep doesn't scroll down to GCU section in the cart and hits the big green button, the next screen is "Customer Look Up", or something like that, which again has options to lookup info by either phone #, email address or RZ member id. THIS DOES NOT GIVE THE 10% GCU BONUS. I'm not sure if the rep has an option to go back to the cart after this point.

Long story short, have the rep scroll down after entering the last game and before clicking past the cart. Hope this help.

Excellent information kilmb! Thanks, I'll keep a note of that on my next trade-in. Granted, until they update their system again. :p

No problem. After hearing on here that they had a new system and bans were lifted I was in there every day for a weak and a half. Most times I could see the screen and a few times I taught untrained reps how to move through the process.

:applause:The reps I usually bs with at BB are always like 'you really should get a job here cuz you know more than we do at times'.:whistle2:# That alone is scary(but hilarious at the same time) to me, that a regular customer could know more than someone who is paid to work for them.

It was even funnier when Circuit City was still around and I'd go in and pull some games marked $20 off the shelf and whip out a $10 bill to pay for them. Then watch them come up $3-4 each and the employees jaws just drop.;)

Yeah, I'm just lucky to have a game manager who will do anything to get my business, so he'll pricematch just about anything I bring in, especially trade-ins, lol. Best Buy is my gaming store this year for sure, especially this holiday!

Got the Banhammer from BB today. I was a very sad panda. Then I remember I'm married and all I gotta do is bring my wife next time I want to do a trade in.

Have any inclination why?

The question mark is there because there have been some claims it goes longer. 10/6 is the minimum confirmation.

Not too sure if that will help. I went to trade in a game yesterday and found out I was banned again. Note that I was banned before but then reinstated. After upgrading their systems I'm banned again? This time I adhered to all the rules so not sure what's up.

So back to my story. After finding out I was banned I took my wife to a different Best Buy closer to home and had my wife do the trade in. System said she was banned too! The weird thing is that she's only done one other trade in for a handful of games and this was months ago! Either the new system tracks addresses too cuz that's the only way we were linked. She didn't use her Reward Zone or anything.
Why isn't Tales of Abyss (3DS) listed on their site? Anyone trade one in lately?
I didn't see it listed on the site either but I scanned my copy on my iPhone app and it showed a $7 base. Oddly enough the title is "no sign" but it does show the cover art of the game.

This does not bode well...
50% confirmed starting on Sunday.
Depending on the base values of the new games, this isn't necessarily bad. At 50% bonus, NCAA had a base of 27, which is 43.20 after all bonuses compared to 42 now with 100% bonus. You'll also get an extra negligible amount of rz points. Interested to see what new releases are priced at.
