Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
I was given word by my local BB gaming rep who is never wrong gave me heads up for B2G1 sale this weekend if anyone is looking to buy some preowned games and potential flips :p
Just a FYI though, I don't think the B2G1 sale will stack with preowned @Gamer coupons. For example, you can't use two $10 off $19.99 coupons when you buy three $19.99 games and expect to get the B2G1 as well.
I was given word by my local BB gaming rep who is never wrong gave me heads up for B2G1 sale this weekend if anyone is looking to buy some preowned games and potential flips :p
BB employee told me the same thing today. He just said there will be a b2g1 on preowned games next week.

I guess this means starting sunday if that's when their new sales start.

FYI, Dead Island's TIV dropped to $6 for each platform. I now deeply regret not finding out about that flip earlier and looking for a copy or two on Sunday when I had access to several BBYs.

At least I locked in an online trade-in for two 360 copies at $16 each. That's something. :D
Phew, MW3 is still at $25. Waiting for my B2G1 coupon from renewing PUR. :bouncy:
Just got mine and I have a pretty good idea what I'm gonna use it on, also I just noticed the dead island TIV tanking I'm glad I got rid of my copies when I did
Phew, MW3 is still at $25. Waiting for my B2G1 coupon from renewing PUR. :bouncy:
So am I. I feel like I'm playing a dangerous game the longer it takes to get the coupon, since I think the MW3 sale price ends on Thursday.

By the way, does anyone know how one would go about cancelling a trade-in made online? Would you just wait and they'll eventually forget about the trade, or is there a button you have to click somewhere ala Amazon?

I'm not saying I'll nix my DI x2 for $32.00 trade-in--I'm just curious.
MK is $24 after bonus. Going to wait for the $34.99 preowned MK:Komplete and hopefully use a $10 off coupon. Free upgrade!!!

Interestingly enough MK:Komplete is not listed for TIV.
Neither is the Red Dead Redemption GOTY edition.
FWIW I was just talking to a best buy employee today and he told me that they're only taking one title per platform (for example only one copy of MW3 on PS3 and one 360 and one Wii). He also said that each person is limited to 50 games traded in per year now. This might be this store only or could be nationwide. It would be great if other people could find more information about this from their local employees.
If this is true, then I just went over the limit by two yesterday on copies of :360:Dead Island. The fact that the trade in estimator site doesn't really mention limits anymore at the top of the page is a bit disconcerting.

But I did find THIS page: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/null/pcmcat257100050022.c?id=pcmcat257100050022&h=488

Under part 12 of that FAQ, this is stated:
For Video Games, you are limited to no more than three copies of the same title and platform within a year (e.g., three copies of Madden 2011 for XBOX 360).
I was hoping they would have a b2g1 free on used games again. My Best Buys selection always gets better and I can try to order some ME2s while I'm there

Haven't trade since Nov and just recently found out I got banned. Gaming guy tried to open a new account for me but same message showed up. Seem like it tied to my DOB and DL. Pain in the ass asking my friends to do it for me now. Damn you penny games. Although he did it for me before the 50% bump, was too busy to do DI for me b4 it tank. Had a feeling that it would tank w/ all the chatter. Suck too that I was able to get 2, 1 SE, for 6 each w/ the same coupon. Heard coupons will be digital soon so Spam spam spam. Dude also told me he did 10 BAC flip to WM, pretty proud of himself too, and I thought I'm bad with all my flip to BB.

coopscohen- What clearance games at Target you flipping?

Cheapest- Below what you quoted in 12 FAQ interest me :)

Vigilante-amz giving 16 for it, don't know what i'm going to do w/ my 1 SE since they don't take it. BB cancel Trade would automatically drop after a while.

Yeah. I noticed the thing about bulk trades myself. I did a mass trade to a site affiliated with FYE/Transworld stores and I had duplicates of 2-3 games. So I sent them an email asking if they would accept a bulk trade. They replied that they would and off they went. It was how I converted some of my remaining GS credit into cash. Only bad part was that the company sent me individual checks for each game.

Even better was that the games I shipped them were getting the same values at FYE stores. So I converted more GS cred into cash by buying at their store and going right next door to FYE n trading them in.:D
FYI, Dead Island's TIV dropped to $6 for each platform. I now deeply regret not finding out about that flip earlier and looking for a copy or two on Sunday when I had access to several BBYs.

At least I locked in an online trade-in for two 360 copies at $16 each. That's something. :D
I said that this would happen quickly but i didnt think it would be the next day lol. This is why i rushed to trade in those mw3 copys

They apparently took Dead Island off sale too besides nuking the trade value.:whistle2:s Way to overreact there, Best Buy.:booty: I wonder if the glitch giving the GCU 10% discount on both the normal pre-owned price and the sale price is still active for the remaining games on sale still.

What do you expect? There was more talk on this website about flipping that game than actually about being happy to get it cheap for playing. The BBY rep near me said they are aware of CAG and the company is going to be quicker to respond to this stuff.

I know they've nuked tiv's before on games on sale without actually eliminating the sale on said games. But I guess this was their only option to make it unprofitable in a hurry. Even without the possible GCU double discount, the game is still $12.50 a copy and a halfway decent price for someone if they just wanted it to play since MSRP is $29.99 now.

Yeah with the price is still good considering it was $34.99 last week used. I was really surprised talking with this BBY manager a few weeks ago. Nice guy though. Told him I knew about some sale through a website and his response was slickdeals or cheapass gamer? I really felt bad CAG was in the same sentence with SD but we really have abused BBY the last 8 months or so (myself included). Partly our doing and partly their desire to take losses to gain some market.

Looks like it's time for me to check all my trade-ins I was going to take today to see if talk of flipping ruined those too.

Yeah. They definitely have attempted to clone Gamestop's model to the point where if not for the @Gamer coupons they would be 100% identical.

The only thing that's really crappy still is the one gripe I have with their used games(besides the incomplete crap they now take in:whistle2:#). That being the weird way they ship out blocks of games to the stores, where stores end up with multiples of certain games and only handfuls of unique titles.

But just like the Amazon trade program(which dropped it's per year limit to two a while ago), I imagine that the BB program will probably limit it to 1-2 instead of the three it's at right now according to their FAQ. We've already heard rumors from some CAG members that it might indeed be dropping to 1 per title per year.

As for SD and CAG being used in the same sentence, many users here are cross registered here and there, as I've seen some familiar names in threads there before. But to hold CAG above SD as some holier than thou community is chuckle worthy at best. There's likely a similar number of people here who exploit and abuse deals just like there is on SD. It's just that some of the ones abusing the deals here don't openly admit it.

Yeah the block shipping of used games to the stores is bad. I think they have gotten better but the BBY closest to me still has like 15 copies of Lost Odyssey from when they first started. Great game but not that one store needed more than a dozen copies.

Since Target Clearance is YMMV, not sure if it can be duplicated but:

PS3 MLB2K11 $4.98 @ Target B2G1 TIV BB $8.00

360 Rayman $8.98 @ Target B2G1 TIV BB $13.00

Turned just a little over $30 into $100 @ BB with that portion of my trade-in.

Finally tried to trade in a game after a 3 month or so hiatus and found out that I am banned...not suprised though. I do find it funny how BB banned me from trading and gave me Silver status at the same time. So is it even worth calling the BB Asset number about my ban?

I attempted to trade in multiple copies of the same game today at my local bb, but got shot down. They would only take one copy per system...(the guy acted like the system would not accept more than one copy), so I guess its not based on their discretion. However, he said it should allow me to trade it in tomorrow...anyone confirm this, or is it now abiding by the one copy per game per year?

That clerk was full of crap. I traded in 3 mw3 yesturday and would have traded in a fourth one but i want to playthrough the campaign first. The 3 copys were taken yesturday night with no problem

Idk...I even brought up the fact that it even stated so on their website that they accepted 3 copies per system. Not really a huge deal, but if the trade in value drops tomorrow for the game I wont be very happy.

How close are the online trade in quotes to the in store trade in values? I'm thinking of trading in MW3 and ME3 (both 360), but dont want to go down there and find out the online quotes of $25 (before the 50%) were really off.

yeah, the only discrepancy i've had is when the clerk scanned the upc of child of eden and it was a different tiv than when he manually typed child of eden into the computer. other than that, online tiv matches the store's tiv.
Sorry for being so delayed on updating the OP guys.
It's all good Budz, you've done more than enough for this thread already.

Just got back from doing 2x mw3 on xbox and 2x on ps3 (used my b2g1, and a 20% from GS). The free $$ just keeps adding up, 101 after tax of gs cred to 160 of BB. Now I just need to find out what I want to buy with it.
Why does it say ends 3/30 in the bb trade in app?
Because you touch yourself at night.

Seriously though, not sure. It could be an odd promotion that ends on Friday, but that seems doubtful. A typo on the app seems more likely.

so they officially change the limits or is it still rumors?

doesn't really affect me now since I saw SFxT is $20 or $32 after bonuses.
also I already traded in 6 mw3's (3 ps3, 3 360) back in Feb.

not sure if I should trade in the CE version of ME3 (360) for only $40.

Bummer for me, bought three copies of MW3 @ GS with a B2G1 coupon. Took it to best buy and they said they have a new rule that I can only trade one copy per console. They said I could try waiting another 24 hours to trade in my last copy. If that doesn't work what to do with my last copy? :/

why not just go to a different store?

can't, whatever trade-ins I made will be shown in every best buy comp.

So I went to trade in MW3 today and was told their new instore tradein policy is 1 same game per platform per year now. So I guess what everyone is saying has to be true must be something really recently. Guess it had to happen eventually with all the abuse they been getting heh.

Appears it was a good thing I did my huge trade in yesterday but that will suck going forward.

Yup, that's very disappointing. It was bound to happen eventually, but that'll definitely kill my trade-ins. I honestly can't remember the last time I traded in a game from my personal collection ;p

Made about $66 on this in profit, plus a bunch of other great trades from other games I've had.

It's been a fun run

As far as the trade limit goes...

I traded in two MW3 copies yesterday (360) at the same store, and another 360 copy today at another store

anyone know how the trade in with receipt works? do they just look at the receipt or they take it away? can u just go in and tell them to look up at ur reward zone account?

A limit of 1 game is pretty drastic though, no other trade-in service goes that far. The only honest people who are going to be screwed though are people who buy new, trade it in and then pick it back up for cheap later down the line and hope to trade it back in again within the year, or of course people who legit buy two copies of games (like say parents who have two kids with two 3DS systems who are going to both want to play Mario Kart 7 at the same time.

yeah the multiple copy trade ins might work now, but later on that's basically grounds for banning.

Honestly not too upset at being banned. I only really did alot of flips from BBV when the sale was going on but I havent traded into Best Buy in forever. If I really have to, ill just get my dad to trade them in. Hes unlocked as well.

I have 2 mw3 to trade in tomorrow. I guess I'll do 1 tomorrow and 1 the next day. Hopefully that doesn't get me banned since I traded one in yesterday. It pretty much is bullshit that they don't force the 3 per title per year like they should have to begin with. Instead they have to go all drastic and pretty much fuck the trade in program.
