Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Someone pointed it out in the other thread, but if you bought Pilot Wings for $5 back when it was a DOTD a few months ago you can turn around and get $12.60 for it with maximum promotion bumps. If you haven't played it yet, you can go through the main challenges in like 2 hours.
Should have just pointed at their own website.

100% Bonus Trade-in Credit on Hot Titles

the 10% should stack regardless of whatever trade-in promo is going on.
There is always that one worker who insists that doesn't stack for some reason...and that's mostly a worker who hasn't covered the gaming section for long.
The Ad states 100% trade in credit on any game lol..... Bestbuy is always a mess

I had that worker today who finalize the trade-in without my 10% GCU so they had to manually discount the product I was buying with amount of the 10%. He keeps insisting that you don't get extra 10% because there is already a promotion running.

Will I be able to call RZ and add the trade in pts since he never input my RZ #?
The Ad states 100% trade in credit on any game lol..... Bestbuy is always a mess
Yeah the 100% on any game doesn't click to a new page and the hot titles actually states PLUS 10% for GCU members. That's why I linked it instead.

Some BB workers might be an ass and point out technically that might only be for hot titles but just tell them that if there is an option to add the 10% and it does then that means it's stackable. Otherwise BB would have programmed their system to void out the extra 10%.

But since their 10% trade-in is also their incentive for GCU members to join their membership, I don't see why they would.

@jr1016
You can try?
If not you might be able to go back to where you traded it in and make them redo your transaction and get your extra 10%.
Extra work for them but oh well.
Does anyone know if something can be done about the following?

I went in and traded in 3 games today. I noticed after I left the store (and was at home) that I didn't receive my 10% bump in TIV because I'm "unlocked." I've never had an issue getting the extra 10% in the past, and got it at another store earlier in the day...
This has happened a couple of times for me now and I've only found one solution: Have the 10% difference manually deducted from the price of something else purchased in the BBY store where you didn't receive the GCU bonus. If you have your trade-in receipt and explain why you should have received the 10% extra, and you're speaking with a sympathetic and understanding employee, you should be fine.

yeah. didn't get my 10% either. girl had no idea. ugh. only $5 and like 2.50 in rz points. oh wellz. tell me if a way to fix, but i think it's lost lost lost.

so i was just looking for things to flip from gamestop to bestbuy found a good one id say thinksmart for ds

it's 4.99 at gamestop and bestbuy will give you 5 bucks for it so double makes it 10 not too bad

Traded 9 games for $108, great promo glad I hung onto Batman: AC. I traded Condemned 2 and it rang up as F.E.A.R. 2 which gave me an extra $4 which was a nice bonus.
yeah. didn't get my 10% either. girl had no idea. ugh. only $5 and like 2.50 in rz points. oh wellz. tell me if a way to fix, but i think it's lost lost lost.
Are you guys using your phone number instead of your RZ cards? I found this solves the issue in my area.

Have any of you people trading in loads of games parted with Max Payne 3 yet?

I'm really hoping this promo brings out some copies of that to my local store...with my GCU and $10 off used coupon, I can get it for $30...c'mon people!

there is a good rule to live by when it comes to used games.

virtually every game(ESPECIALLY BIG TITLES) will have a used copy within in 5 hours out there for sale.

heck even niche titles are subject to this rule there are just fewer of them out there so odds are lower of getting one.

Traded in 12 games yesterday for $216. Wish I hadn't done so many trades during the 60% promo and had more to to dump. Was able to avoid parting with anything I want to play so very good trip overall
Anyone here trade in Uncharted 3 and get them to use $14 base? Search the website and it says $10 but on this hot titles section( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Games-P...ns/pcmcat272800050038.c?id=pcmcat272800050038 ) it gives $14. Would it be worth it to try to fight them and get the extra $4 bucks?(more if you count the 110% with GCU)
I went to trade in Lumines (Vita) a few weeks ago and it was $14 in the store's system instead of the $18 that was showing up on the TIV checker. The gaming associate and store manager didn't think it was possible to override a TIV. They poked at the computer for about 10 minutes and gave up. Store manager was cool about it and overrode the price on something I was purchasing to make up the difference, but YMMV.

My inventory of games to trade in are dwindling... I'm rushing through BF3 campaign to trade it in. Got it during the DoTD sale, so I won't miss it too much.

I'll get into the multiplayer at a later time. Would much rather have credit for upcoming purchases.

sometimes the tiv shows up different if they scan the ups compared to if they manually type the name of the game in. happened to me when i traded in child of eden last year- usually the lesser value shows up when they scan it; so if they give you a lower value than shown on the tiv site, ask them to manually enter the title.

damn it....to trade BF3 in or not?

I see it's TIV jumped, so i could get close to $30 for it... I honestly only paid $17 for my copy, but it is the only game i'm getting my multiplayer fix from right now.

I COULD nab a new MW3 for $19.99 (after coupons and promos)...or just use the credit and my RZ cert for Max Payne 3. ugh, decisions...

The guy at my local Best Buy (LIC, NY) told me the bonus 100% promo is running all month. Don't know if it's true or not, but we'll find out in a week.

IMO I wouldn't trade BF3 for MW3 as the CQC pack is coming this month and more maps to steal Black ops 2 thunder at the end of the year. Max Payne 3 multiplayer has potential but needs to be worked on and the single player campaign is short so maybe you would hold off on a sale for it.
I'm hearing the 100% trade in offer is good for the entire month of June ;)
I traded in games over lunch and the gaming rep said the same thing. Good till June 30th!!

Traded In Madden 12, Nascar 2011, Kinect Adventures, NBA2k11 and got 42.00!!

Looks like my unopened BF3 is going in if I can get nearly $30 for it. I bought it during the DotD sale as well, so I'm making money...

I showed the clerk at the gaming kiosk the website and he called a manager over. The manager said that I could have $8 off an item to compensate. I had it applied to Saints Row the Third, making it $26.99.

Long long story, so skip this part if you'd like

-----

So I just lost out of $10, I derped during the trade-in. Went in with 14 games, gave the guy my GCU card and told me I was looking at a total of $218 after promotion.

He was ready to finish the deal, gave me the pen and paper to sign. But I asked "Hey how come? I checked the TiV an hour before coming in here and it totaled up to $118 + 110%.

So he's like "Yeah but they haven't updated the TiV's on the website, we've had problems with that, it's probably what happened". So I asked him if I could see the papers with all the TiV's just to mark them off.

Well, there was a line behind me with people wanting to pay for a few things, + I wanted to just get out of there already since I had waited 20 minutes before being able to trade. So I did a quick skim through, saw all the TiV's were correct, so I told him if he'd re-do the 10% GCU since that's probably what was throwing it off.

So at that moment he's like "I'll get the manager, that way you can figure it out faster cause I already did the 10% GCU + 100% and thats what I got".

So another 5 minutes, no manager, he comes back from Customer Service and he's like "My bad man, I'll credit you $21.43 for the GCU" so I was like, oh no prob that makes more sense.

Total came out to $237.xx, by that point I was happy enough with that since I had originally totaled it up and it came out to $247.xx. So I signed and when I got home, figured I'd sit down and see which game was the one that's TiV dropped..

Hmm, all seem to be giving me the same TiV as online so what happened I wondered? So I counted them up, turned out on the paper they didn't count Uncharted 3. So I had 13 games traded in instead of 14, lets just say I had a mega facepalm moment.

-----

Atleast on the bright side I only lost $10 (because oddly enough I should've gotten $10 less than I got, so I'm not sure what the hell they did). Plus got rid of tons of games I had in my backlog that I know I'll never get around to playing.

Well, seems like I've finished the initiation ritual to become a real CAG, never though I'd ever see myself trading 14 games, let alone 1 or 2. I've learned my lesson though, won't be derping next time! :p

If they didn't give you credit for UC3, then you could just go back and talk to the guy because they'll be missing a packing slip for UC3. So they'll just create a trade in for that game by itself.

waves bye bye for trade prices going up

do you need the box and manual to get the 100% up

thinking of trading in

mario 3 on 3 ds
and
Super mario bros ds

Ah crap, problem is I have to head to work in less than 20 minutes. :wall:.

Yeah, I just checked again..

Seems they did $108 (Base) + $108 + 10% = $237.60

I thought they did (Base + 10%) and NOT (Base+Promo) and then add the 10% from that.

So they definitely didn't credit me that game.. fuck

Do you know if I could call or something? I didn't even know I could still fix this, since I figured once you signed you pretty much confirmed everything was done and correct.

just call and try to talk to the guy. Unless they are complete douches, they'll hold the game for you at customer service or something.

If it was a case of the TIV being lower or they didn't give you the GCU and you signed, then you're screwed.

But like I said, they now have an extra game unaccounted for. Unless the dude keeps it for himself, they can't send it in or anything so it's sitting there.

I've had an experience where I traded in 6 games, but one of them was unaccounted for.

I went back the following day and luckily, those games were still in their drawer and not packed up ready for sale.

They went over the order, and also confirmed that there was a game not accounted for in the total. They simply did another transaction and apologized.

I don't know if it is YMMV, since I did indeed sign off on it. It doesn't hurt to be cool with the gaming department at the store. That is probably why I've gotten exceptional service since BB went full steam ahead into the used game business.

Thanks so much man! I really appreciate it! Called before going to work, and told one of guys about it, so he called up the guy on the Video Game section, and he was cool about it, he immediately apologized and told me that he found out Uncharted 3 was unaccounted for & told me I could come back tomorrow and he'd credit me, so hopefully all goes as planned tomorrow.

For everyone posting about it and the person who PM'd me about it, I'll change the date for the 100% bonus when it is confirmed by something other than what some blue shirts have said their computer says. Considering how many people have also reported blue shirts saying the 10% doesn't stack, we will take them with a grain of salt. 2nd, the computer could simply be in error or Best Buy could decide to cancel it after this week or next, etc. So when it is official, it will be updated.

I traded my bf3 even though I didnt really want to, but I think it'll go on sale for less than $30 in the future. I still got MW3 though.

Someone already mentioned this but if you're trading in Little Big planet 2 make sure the cashier types LBP as one word and then add the 2. If they just scan the UPC, by default you'll get $6.00 which is for LBP2 Special edition.

Does anyone know if they will accept a trade if I were to send my wife to trade in some games for me during the day tomorrow? I was going to send her with my reward zone card, of course she knows all my other info.. but I wasn't sure if the drivers license needed to match the reward zone card or if they will take hers. Has anyone done this before?

just depends on how much of a dick the employee is.

Traded in 3 games last night. I have to say, the trade in method takes way too much time compared to Gamestop. First, there is never anyone around the video game area. Then, when I got someone they take forever to input all your information. And they have no idea with the 100% trade in bonus until they scan the games and rung up the total. I couldn't imagine how long it takes for some people who have over 10 games, they will probably take forever as they look through each disc to make sure they don't have any severe scratches. Anyway, I traded Batman AC, Assassins Creed Relevations and another old game. Then went to get a copy of MW3 for 24.99 with my coupon. :D

You must have shitty stores or shitty employees tbh. I've been in 4 Best Buys this week, and every single one of them processed my trades in under 5-10 minutes.

I've done this twice with no issue. I did get a funny look the first time cause I was actually there with my friend who was doing the trade for me cause I was banned, I just said to the cashier, "He gets 10% more on his trade, I get the RZ Points. Pretty good deal." He laughed and said, "Smart thinking."

I didn't even go with on Sunday, no issue at all.

Really? So it's not tied to rewards zone cards/ID's, just driver's licenses? I had no idea. So I can have the wife use my Rewards zone card and her license without any issues?

Yeah, you'll be fine. It's definitely not tied in with Driver Licenses, since I've done the same exact thing that you are about to do.
