Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

I was a regular at my Best Buy, first name basis and everything so I highly doubt I was "reported." Best Buy simply decided I was trading in far too many games in a short time frame. And boy was I trading in a lot of games. Now I'm just clearing shelf space via friends and family.
For those of you lucky enough to be unbanned, how long did it take for you to go from banned to unbanned?
I think the bigger question is how do you know if you have been off the blacklist?

Is it just trial and error?

I guess so. Even if you call the 'trade-in' department or whatever at BB, they don't have any information. So the only way to know if are off the list is to try a trade in and see if it goes through.
I didn't mean the boisterous thing as an insult. I gloat at GS all the time, and one kid always contacts the gm/rm to try and get me price matching to keep my business there (I'm sure they love having their weekend golf interrupted lol)...
It takes quite a bit to 'insult' me usually. But believe me, the DM around here likely would NOT have bent over backwards to help keep my business, especially since we already had run-ins over pennied guides and me hitting up his stores a LOT for them.
Anyways, I don't feel bulletproof, but I have done a couple buy/trade ins with the same chick, 3 days in a row. I always come in and she's like "oh there's mr regular"
I think that was part of my problem, in that I was there almost as much as the employees at one point at both GS and BB. It's actually kinda scary when you start to be able to determine the schedule each employee is on because you're there that damn much.:whistle2:#
I hate the hadley, ma store tho, their staff take 20-30 mins to do a trade in... and I've had to correct them multiple times (gotta love umass/amherst kids, future of america and dumb as fucking bricks)
The people at the BB stores didn't have to pressure me to do the pre-orders, but during my time trading to GS I would just glare at them whenever they tried that 'you'll never find this if you don't pre-order' bs line.

The absolute best had to be the one time when I was walking into the store with NOTHING in my hands and the clerk STILL asked me if I had anything to trade.:roll: I reached alongside myself and said 'yeah lemme just pull these games I have sitting in the Nth dimension through this here wormhole and I'll bring em up'. The guy turned beet red and NEVER asked me for trades again when I came in empty handed.

Well, I thought I was unbanned for about two weeks. Then my ban came back and I'm pretty sure I wasn't re-banned because I only traded in about 5 games before my ban came back. So I believe it was a glitch in the system, this was around the time that they were updating all their systems.

Can anyone please answer this?
Those that were banned last year (Oct/Nov), are you guys still banned or has the ban been lifted since it's the start of a new year or does it take a full year?
Thanks
What are some good cheap flips right now.

Maybe like a total of $20 investment and come out with like $50 at BB.
Yeah guys. I'd like someone to do all the work looking for these things so I can cash in a year later than everyone else.

You're a big meanie for not giving him all the answers without him having to do any of the work. But if you look at his posting history, that's ALL he does pretty much is ask questions and beg for free shit.

He even asked just about the same question as his post above in NEXT week's BB ad thread. So he's already begged for the same shit for next week.

Hey ? For any1 who knows, I looked thru best buy threads and didn't see an answer. Basically was wondering if u do the gamer unlocked subscription with a trade in same transaction if you get the extra 10% with it. Employee at best buy told me u had u buy the subscription first in order to get extra10% in future trades.

I found out about my initial ban the Monday before Black Friday. In early March, I decided to call Best Buy's 800 number to see if I could get an answer if the ban was permanent or not. Was told I was no longer banned. Still unbanned. Good for me because spending any real money on Skylanders for my spoiled kid would've been expensive.

I didn't have trouble doing it in the same transac when I signed up. If employee didn't let you, try signed up 1st then trade in games right after

I didn't have any money on me so I was trying to using my trade credit from trade to pay 4 the subscription. Which I was able to do, buy guy said I had to do subscription in a seperate transaction first to get the 10%

Alright. According to Mariel at the BB forums, the trade limit IS three per title per year on the same platform. But as Jimmienomam had said prior on there, they may also leave it up to the individual stores to set their own limits.

So unfortunately best advice I can give my fellow CAG's is to ask your gaming reps what the limit is for your store BEFORE doing the 3 limit on anything.

Here's a link to the thread:

http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-B...r-title-per-year-for-the-Best-Buy/td-p/527468

And the response quoted:
Hi CheapestGamer,

Great question. There seems to be a lot of talk around the water cooler about this one lately, particularly with the promotion going on. It's my understanding that you can trade in up to three copies of the same title on the same platform, per year. (For example, three copies of Battlefield 3 on Xbox.)

However, some stores, based on the level of fraud risk, may choose to limit customers to one or two titles. In these situations, discretion is exercised on a case-by-case basis. The store, as Jimmie stated, does have the ability to deny a trade in for any reason. A trade in may be denied if the trade in value exceeds the current selling price of that preowned title.

I hope that helps answer your question and let me know if you have any others!
You're quite welcome. If the OP was a Wiki, I'd have added that official response to it to save Budz some work. But hopefully he'll add it if he feels it's worthwhile information.

Right. So when your gaming rep tells you 3 is the limit and you still get banned???

No talk of the 50 per year total anymore?

You could have done it all in 1 transaction. The computer would have used part of your credit towards the $14.99 subscription and given you the 10%, all at once.

I asked Mariel from the BB forums about the alleged 50 per year limit in a message on their forums. I'm waiting for a response on that. I also asked why their system doesn't automatically detect when someone has reached or exceeded the limit per title and stop the transaction. Hopefully I can get a response on at least those few questions.

As for your question, I would say to just go to the BB forums and ask about the banning.

That was sort of a rhetorical question I already knew the answer to. There's nothing any one at the store level can do to reverse (or even override now) the ban. Why, after all these months, can no one (corporate) give us something concrete in writing regarding the in-store limits?

Because they don't want to. Nor is it smart to.

Nobody is going to tell you what #s are too much and leads to a ban because they don't people to get to the brink of it and back off. They would rather you go over the limit and then decide whether to ban.

IMO, it's not a concrete number anyway. It's a combination of red flags and then a case review. So maybe 300 games traded in with no duplicates won't get you banned but 50 games of the same 5x10 games will.

I tried trading in uncharted 3 about a month ago and I was banned.. I admit I deserved it for flipping from bbv to bb late last year.. but today I was able to trade in a game successfully and I am going to try to trade again tomorrow.. I don't think trades are tracked by just your name and birthdate, I think they also use some other information you give them..
Like if they just used your name and birthday, there are a lot of joe smiths in the world with the same birthday

I know they would never reveal what they look at for bans, but they could at least have a policy in writing for per game, per platform, per year, etc. Just to end all the confusion (for BB employees and consumers) and guess work. We all thought the "new" policy of 1 per platform, 50 per year was definitive, but now you have a BB corp employee backtracking to the "original" 3 per.

Apologies if anyone else has noted this already, for I unabashedly did not run a search, but with the present promotion you can get $26 (total) for trading in the copy of :wii: New Super Mario Bros. Wii that's being bundled with the console.

I'm sure there are ways to get more out of the game (Amazon?), but this is a relatively painless one since BBY doesn't care that you're giving it to them in the lame paper sleeve you got it in. Assuming this value doesn't tank as the promotion goes on this means you can probably get a brand new :wii: for

I think its your Drivers License. It was for me anyway. I went thru the whole process then he entered it and the "banned" screen appeared.

Does the 100% Bonus Trade-In Credit W/any trade in: work on systems and does the extra 10% stack with this
lol like someone has mentioned, there are gonna be more people banned soon or Bestbuy will stop doing game trading.
Not going to happen, BB is very happy with the progress of used games which is why we keep seeing the trade in deals getting better & better like the 100% offer. Notice that they keep the used game coupons in the @gamer mag & how fast/often used game offers find there way in the weekly ad? Also, used games have a major direct effect on NEW game sales which is why GS can survive on full MSRP. A person(generally not a CAG) will be ok with using $40 of GS credit on a new $60 game since it's "only $20 OOP".
traded in 5 games today for $52

2 brinks for $16
2 bulletstorms for $24
and 1 final fantasy XIII for $12

not bad i guess
I'd sas so since 4 for them could've been had for $5 each & FF can be found for $10.
Anyone tried to trade in discs that have stickers on them (like Blockbuster used to do)?
I had a GS Wii game with a Redbox barcode circle sticker in the middle. Traded it in today.

The full disk Blockbuster stickers may be a different story, they're really bad. Don't try and take it off to, it will ruin the disk.

I traded 149 games all in one sitting this past Sunday, I'll find out if I'm banned next time I go in!

That's not how it works. There's no hard-limit. You'll only find out if you went over their magic total number limit (whatever that may be) when/if you're banned in the next wave of bans (whenever they happen to process those)...

I'm positive this has been asked countless times, but what's worth more, the 10% trade in, or the Reward Points? I find it odd that it's either or, but the calculations are completely different.

Traded in all the games that just went free for PS+ (except they didnt have R+C in their system, and a couple others I had dupes of. Expected to get around 80$, and ended up with 140$. Wife then bought a digital cam for 180$, so I still came out behind..

I was surprised at the TIV and that they even would take the games that just went free.. I got 20$ for my LB2 that was included in my 200$ holiday PS3 bundle, making that an even better deal.

Thanks OP for the info, this was a great time for this deal.

Ratchet & Clank All 4 One is in the system but doesn't show up when they search for Ratchet & Clank it seems. Have them look for "All 4 One" and it'll show up.

Best Buy instore doesn't take systems excluding some locations that will only take DSlites (I hear) and these promos only work on games. Sorry dude.
