Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Found a couple of trades that work out either to be about the same or better than Amazon, all of which I'm looking to trade in soon so probably jump on that (assuming I'm not banned).

A good sign, a few TIV's I've been watching went up a little bit yesterday/today. Perhaps this means that Best Buy is starting to actively update them rather than just react to a possible fip by sinking TIV's and then leaving them there.

Got to trade some stuff today. Sadly one of the games the girl wouldn't take and gave me two reasons why which I feel is kinda like lying to me cause there should only be one reason. And she also went back on a lot of the things you said previously. Not my first time trading. She was probably having a bad day and I just made it worse by asking questions. Probably call like customer service and complain.

also they are giving e-gift cards for online tradeins instead of mailing out gift cards... hmm

also picked up a few dead space 2's instore to flip (b2g2 online a few days ago, got 4 perfect copies for under $20)
but i opened them all up in the parking lots and one was dead space 1, lol, went in and exchanged it, but glad i was waiting for wife in grocery store or i would have waited til i got home and hopefully noticed then.

I was going to take advantage of teh extra 50%, but I'm pretty disappointed with their trade-in values. Even with the 10% bonus for GCU I still get slightly more from Amazon.

I haven't traded a BBY in a while. Even GS beats them for the most part in TIV these days.
I wass going to trade Dragon age Origins for PS3 the other day and it was $1. Really? At least GS keeps most everything over $2 and let's you unload your old games with a trade 3 get 10 extra deal every so often.

Best Buy sells Dragon Age: Origins (PS3) for $4.99 used ($4.49 with Gamer Unlocked discount)... of course they are only give $1 for it.

Of course it really all depends. Yeah those trade 3 get 10 extra is always nice, but there's always a minimum limit (think like 2-3 bucks) and I always happen to pick the games that don't cost enough to apply haha. I trade at both depending on where I can get more. All this week though, Best Buy has done well with my crappy games. Than again, got rid of a good amount of PS2 games that GS wasn't gonna give me nearly enough.
Anyone know if it's instant like last weeks or do you really have to preorder this time around?
It was instant yesterday for me

I don't know all of the details, but the normally well informed gamer guy told me that they are going to start giving Reward Zone points for trade ins.

His exact words were, "Don't quote me (although I am lol), but I beleive it is going to be 1 point per base dollar for free gamer's club and 2 dollars for unlocked gamer's card."

I haven't seen it posted anywhere, but he was under the impression that I would get points for the transaction I completed today. I'll update if I actually get any points.

I was actually thinking about that since they say you cant get points for gift cards and thats all you get for trade ins
I don't know all of the details, but the normally well informed gamer guy told me that they are going to start giving Reward Zone points for trade ins.

If they added old transactions to that I'd get around 3000 rewards points lol

I'll confirm this is going on, but they've been having some problems implementing the system into gaming transactions. I'm not sure where it stands right now, but it's definitely coming.

Very cool. More incentive to do more trade :) :applause: If anyone recieve those points please update us here. Thanks.

Double confirmed at my store today. They're apparently still figuring out if they'll go back 30 days for people or just give points starting day one (or at least that was my store's understanding of what they've heard/read). Cool added incentive for sure.

Also managed to get better tivs across the board for what I was trading than amazon for the first time in a while, even with the preorder tax.

If they give points starting from day one of the program, then I imagine a lot of the banned traders are gonna end up with $100 in RZ certificates or more sitting in their accounts.

sorry, bad wording. to clarify day one = day one of giving rz points for trades, not day one of the trade-in program (i.e. either go back 30 days and credit people who traded in or don't and pick a random day in the future to start giving rz points for trades). didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up.

Was going to post about the RZ thing that I was told today, but was beat to it.

Well, add me the ban hammer list. Going to try and call to get it lifted, but hopes aren't high. I'll update the thread come tomorrow, but I'll probably be looking for a volunteer to start a new thread and manage the OP in the near future.

Anyone know if I could have someone else trade but still use my RZ card for the 10% bonus? The ban is attached to my ID not my RZ account right? Might be able to talk my sister or a friend into doing it for me occasionally and would obviously like to keep getting the extra 10% (plus RZ points now...)

Aw man, sorry to hear dude. Do you know when you got banned? Maybe there was another wave.

Sorry to hear Budz. I imagine you didn't do a lot of trades in the last month. If you didn't then I'm guessing LP periodically looks up accounts and sorts them by total trades. Which would mean most everybody will get the banhammer at some point.

Haven't done a trade in for roughly a month and a half.

So does anyone know the deal on the whole using my RZ account with someone else doing the trade in?

Also, has anyone successfully done an online trade-in after being banned? It'd be a nice outlet to still get rid of games that don't have the complete artwork/manual.

Oh, and when you call the number they give you they aren't even looking at your account anymore. They just said, "You must of violated the policies, you account can be reconsidered in a year."

FYI: You can trade in store without artwork/manuals as well. They just have to manually look them up then, but they can and have done trades like that for me.
If you were responding to me, I'll well aware of that. Was asking about online trade after having been banned.
I believe a few people mentioned being able to do online trades after having been notified in store that they were banned.

I have been able to trade using my husband's ID and my Reward Zone Unlocked account.

One time was the day I was banned. The second time was with the guy I normally trade with. He had no idea about the bans and said next time he will look at the ban message and see if he can do anything.

Has anyone who had them override it been able to trade again after that?
I'm trying to figure out if I just get 1 override, if I can go back to using my ID? It is a hassle to have to make my hubby do it.

my store said they just put the letter s at the end of my last name so it looks like a new account and i can still trade through it and use my gamers club thing...

idk if this is the supervisor's way to get around me getting banned or not, but he said i was good to go. he is upset i stopped bringing my piles of games in and i told him amazon and gamestop and other places are better, and i just go where the best tiv's are.

Wait....you got banned finally?

That means I'm most definitely fucked now as well, since I think we were some of the last people left who hadn't received the ban notice popup.

Then again, I don't think I've done an actual trade(did a test trade of Bulletstorm a month ago) in about 2 months(aka since their values went down the shitter). Although when I did the test trade I was still good to go, but I had them back out of the transaction just before the gift card step and didn't actually do the trade.

i was banned after trading in as well, the next time i went in a manager overrode it after finding out i was banned and them running about 100 games in and mentioned to me when i came back that i was banned for 3 months but she overrode, havent been trading in on my acct since, ill flip with 2 other people instead of bothering with the hastle

I'm going to trade in today, my first time in a while, I hope I'm not banned. I think the reason I haven't been banned yet is because my trades are split between my parents ID's (you have to be 18 to trade, I'm 16) so my trade ins didn't look as bad as they would if they were all on one account.

Sorry for the ban hammer :( I haven't traded in at bestbuy in over a month myself so I don't know if I have been banned. I've been doing bestbuy to gamestop flips to get the vita

Not sure if this is the right thread to ask this but has anyone bought used games from Best Buy online? The website says the games are guaranteed to come with their original boxes, but I saw that they apparently accept disc only trade ins, so I don't see how they can guarantee that, unless they think original boxes means it just comes in a random case.

Perhaps they'll actually have complete copies for their online stock. I've seen disk only in store before.

Question, i already have Soul Calibur 5 CE pre-ordered, if i trade in games can i show them my receipt to get the bonus?

I have heard other people getting it done properly, but last time i tried here the guy made me pre-order again. (Not sure if its a policy or something). Hate cancelling pre-orders because it always seems shady

Well if you're canceling and preordering at the same time its not shady, especially if the service rep told you that's how you can get your bonus.

Very YMMV at my store they hooked me up cuz I had already preordered ffxiii-2 from the last 50% bonus and they let me use the same preorder for last weeks +50% trade in. GL with you buddy

It's a 50/50 shot, since they don't really require everything when you send in games to the online trade site anymore either. Your best bet is to likely go in store and determine which games they have you want for the current B2G1 and then do an order while in store for them once you've determined that they're complete.

One time they just gave me the 50% more without preordering (I did afterwards). The worker told me they can add it in without you actually preordering it. You can ask them since you already have it preorder it if they could just give you the boost. Of course if they don't want to, just preorder another copy of the regular edition that you can cancel later. Don't cancel/reorder your CE just in case it's like cut off and won't count if you try it again.

I can confirm that you can use the RZ card of a gamer's club unlocked member who has been banned with someone else s ID. The guy even figured out it was my RZ card eventually as we progressed and didn't seem to care. Just figured I was hooking a buddy up or something.

So at least I was able to get this trade (which was about $50 more at BB than Amazon) in.

For anyone who picked up Marvel vs Capcom 3 back with Gamefly, it may interest you that the game is back up to $7 TIV at BB. With the 60% bonus that's just shy of $12, which isn't too bad.

I'd say it's a little better than 50/50. I ordered 20 games during the B2G2 and I got 3 disc only, generic cases. Another 2 were missing manuals. But the likes of TNA Impact and NFL Head Coach 09 being incomplete doesn't really bother me too much. My 2x NBA 2K12/Gears 3 order came complete.

I never saw that original box guarantee though. Interesting.

When I did the B2G2 I got 3 complete games and 1 incomplete. Luckily I was able to trade the incomplete back in to BB after I played it.
I just went to make a trade after not doing one in about a month. Turns out I am banned. Sad face panda bear.
damn, sorry to hear. another best buy victim. hows you story go, did you break any of the rules?
damn, sorry to hear. another best buy victim. hows you story go, did you break any of the rules?
I did not. I haven't made a game trade since before Christmas. I would consider myself a moderate trader but not a high one. I even keep a spread sheet of what games I traded in per system to make sure I dont go over the 3 game per system limit. The girl working at best buy said she had never seen the message before.

As a side note earlier in the month I traded games in through the mail to best buy and that did work. So maybe banned people can still trade game in that way.

No
Does anyone else feel that they should get their Gamer Club Unlock $14.95 fee returned if they are banned?
If that subscription fee hadn't gotten me hundreds of extra dollars I would consider it, but since it did I'm calling that a cost of doing business. Especially since I found out I can still get that bonus when having others do the trade.

I doubt it will go anywhere, but I've had a pretty interesting/good conversation with a rep on the BB forums that primarily handles gaming concerns through private messages about the whole thing. She couldn't really get me any more info on the subject of my ban, but admitted that she was unaware so many people had been banned or that corporate was taking a policy of keeping banned customers in the dark as to the nature of their banning. Again, I doubt it'll go anywhere, but at least (we can hope) someone actually involved with gaming at Best Buy will be given a little incentive to look into how they are doing things. It helped that I was very straightforward with her, told her that my ban probably stems from the sheer number of games I've traded in (which is a lot) but hardly all of them were flips and to help highlight that point, and to highlight how many games I actually purchase, I shared a photo of the stacks of 360 games sitting on my dresser waiting to be played. A stack all the more impressive when you consider I've been banned for trading in too many games.

I'm banned and I don't feel I deserve a refund haha. At least we still get 10% off and the magazine.
