Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Some kind of pro rata share returned is probably the right thing to do, but Best Buy is not exactly known for doing the "right thing."

haha yeah. it was pretty nice they sent out all those gift cards for the fcked up orders over the holiday season.
"Hi, I'm banned for abusing your system. But I'd like to get my $15 back for the GCU please."

*Gets laughed out of the store.
Oh confoosious, you're so funny.

But we don't really know why people have been banned, do we? People have followed the rules set forth by Best Buy (at least to our knowledge, because there are no comprehensive rules posted for the in-store Trade-in program) and were still banned. I know the main reason I purchased the GCU was for the 10% extra Trade-in credit. If I was banned, I would no longer be benefiting from that feature and therefore, would feel that I would be entitled to a refund.

Note: As of my last trade on 1/5/12, I had not been banned.

dont know if Im banned yet, havent tried to trade in over 2 months. But, I can say pretty confidently that anyone that has been banned, definitely reaped in way more than $15 in bonus credit. Not to mention, the year long magazine, coupons, and discount off used games. Not really sure, how anyone thats been banned could feel they didnt get their $15 worth.

If you feel youre entitled to a refund, you have a messed up sense of entitlement or you really suffer from greed.

haven't traded for a long ole time, don't know if I'm banned or not.. haha. I did sell about 60 PS3 games out of my collection off craigslist. Sad to see them go, but they're just sitting there losing values and I don't play them.

I don't trade, I just like the thread.

If you pay for a service and abide by the rules, you should get a prorated amount for the time left in your membership -assuming they also cease the mag subscription.

I think that's what Gamestop did with my PUR sub to the Game Informer magazine, since I've been going in store for the last 6 months to get the current month's issue. I know it probably would've been easier just to call GI as they told me to do multiple times, but I never found the time for some reason.

As of next month my subscription woulda ended anyway, so at most I missed out on this month's and next month's issues. Not like that mag reads as anything more than a Gamestop shill to try to prompt people to buy/pre-order the upcoming 'hot' games(according to them) anyway.

your membership is still active, even if you get banned from trading.
I did not. I haven't made a game trade since before Christmas. I would consider myself a moderate trader but not a high one. I even keep a spread sheet of what games I traded in per system to make sure I dont go over the 3 game per system limit. The girl working at best buy said she had never seen the message before.
.
I think if you need to keep a spreadshhet to monitor your trades, you are probably banned by now or will be soon. lol

I went in a few weeks ago to pick up some online orders and on the way out the door, chatted with the security guy and one of the regular gaming workers. He asked where I've been recently. I told him about the banning and we all had a laugh about it. :)

Best Buy is so funny! I ordered a bunch of different $5 games almost a month ago. Of course inventory was wrong and they all were cancelled, but they gave me a $5 e coupon for every game cancelled! Another free 100+ bucks from BB. Crazy company...always plugging leaks in the wall as others pop up. The need to rebuild a new wall!

Its more a OCD thing then a excessive trading thing.
Has anyone who's banned received their copy of magazine? I still haven't received mine.
Damn good point. I was banned and still haven't received the newest magazine.
Has anyone who's banned received their copy of magazine? I still haven't received mine.
I dont know when I was banned but I received this months magazine.
Has anyone who's banned received their copy of magazine? I still haven't received mine.
The last issue that came out was for January AND February of 2012(says so right near the top of the cover:razz:), so that may be why you're not getting a magazine, since I believe this month's issue is supposed to cover NEXT month too.

Anyone check out their reward zone lately? I have points pending for a trade in I did on 1/21/2012. It appears that they have begun to give points for trade in as others mentioned would happened.

They are officially tired of getting PS2 games it looks like... almost every single PS2 title (including better titles such as .hack) are $0.50 trade in now :(
Has anyone who's banned received their copy of magazine? I still haven't received mine.
I have received the last 2 months mags and have been banned for about 3.

BTW it would be illegal for them not to send you what you paid for.
I just got back from bestbuy and the Trade-in cashier also printed out the pop up for me as well. It was fun while it lasted. I guess I canceled too many pre-orders and I did break the 3 limit game once so I got what was coming to me. So beware of the policy guys. Don't break any of rules.

Here's what the sheet stated:
"Cannot proceed with this transaction"
"Best Buy Asset Protection for violation of Best Buy Policies has placed a person with this name and DOB on a list of persons prohibited from conducting secondhand transactions. If the customer believes this is an error, they can contact customer service at 877-210-4227 or email [email protected]."
Here's that number you're looking for.

Same here for a trade-in on 1/20/12. It shows the base value of my trade-in, without any promo/bonus.

I have $92 in pending points from a trade I had someone else do with my RZ card as well. What's interesting is it also has the line underneath for the GC promo/bump so perhaps we will be getting the extra GC points as well?

I've noticed! Luckily the PS2 games I traded in little over a week ago were 3-6 dollar range before now becoming .50 cent.

The 50% hard;y matter now that most value is tank worse than amazon or gamestop. I know it is easy to hate on gamestop but find a place that offer $30+ on mw3 last week...

Haven't done a bestbuy trade in for a while. For one the values suck for the most part (especially the ps2 games, i miss those flips) and I also haven't been able to find any flippables latley :(

Reward zone has been funky for the last few days. It shows "point adjustment" and is parting out GC points separately. I am not in Unlocked or traded any games and my account is like this.

Yep. It's been acting up. Maybe the conversion to getting points for trade ins is causing problems.

I believe the ps2 trade in drop to .50 happened in december not recently, because i traded in some games right after and its been awhile since ive traded in games.
Just got back from BB. Eleven games for ~$291. Luckily I wasn't banned yet for trading :D
Nice trade, just got back as well. I got $29 for AC:R (still 29.99 new at GS) and $13 for Rage with the 50% extra for Soul Calibar. Wanted to do FF 13-2 Collectors Edition but their sku and kiosks show sold out, so I went online and just pre-ordered it there full price with like 3 giftcards lol
I have received the last 2 months mags and have been banned for about 3.

You also paid to get a 10% bonus on trade ins and they banned you from getting that, so uh....?

Maybe I happen to not see any of those 50 cent games? I traded in PS2 games recently and none were .50 cent. Everything I saw or looked at were at least a dollar or more. It wasn't till a few days ago when I was looking up values for more games that I planned on selling that I start seeing .50 cent games.

Updated the OP. As for TIV's, obviously it varies but there is definitely a sweet spot where you will get a good value for game's of a certain age, especially with the bonus bumps. I mean, I was quite happy to get over $22 for Goldeneye Reloaded and $12 something for Marvel Vs Capcom 3 vanilla last week.

FYI: There still are some decent flips to BB with the current promo assuming you can find a Blockbuster Video that's staying open(good luck) and/or one that hasn't been completely stripped bare of anything decent from the current 3/$15 5/$25 sale(again, good luck cuz you'll need it).

I'm not gonna say what they are, but if you're willing to do enough cut and pasting from the qualifying game list in the OP of the BBV thread you should be able to find them with no trouble whatsoever.;)

Do the deals stack? Such as if you pre-order a game, plus trade in 3 games, plus put the money towards a game, do you get a 100% trade in bonus?

Ah okay. I just wasn't sure because I ended up getting like...a 50-60% trade in bonus altogether when doing something similar to this for Gears 3

Yeah, 60 is the highest I've seen it go with the 50 + unlocked bonus, wish they did stack, the way the tivs have been dropping.
I know you guys don't like to read fine print but they can modify or change the program at any time. So can we stop this silly debate. You get banned and you'll get nothing and like it. IF you want to complain, go ahead. Maybe they'll give you back $15 to shut you up. But your $15 doesn't mean they can't ban you.

That T&C says nothing about forfeiting any program benefits if the program is abused. Nor does it specify anything about what constitutes "abuse". It states that they can change the program universally for everyone. And I would assume that they can't change it drastically without some issues (notifications, on renewal, etc). For instance if they said you no longer get a 10% discount on pre-owned games but a 5% discount on diapers.

Don't be so condescending. It's amazing that you can read that T&C and find justification for your argument.

Some values for older games arent bad. Got 8$ for BlazBlue Continuum Shift and 7$ for Super Street Fighter 4 on PS3 yesterday. (Before the 50%).

Though, most of my stuff is gonna go to gamestop.

Ok, you should sue them then if you get banned and see how far the T&Cs take you.

I can't believe you are actually arguing that people who abused the hell out of the system deserve some sort of compensation for getting kicked out of the club. Law and fine print aside, doesn't that seem a little silly to you. (I know there are people who are sticking to the story that they did nothing wrong which I find highly doubtful. I appreciate the people who are just saying "yep, they got me. I had it coming." and just move on with their lives.)

If you aren't familiar already, you'll learn pretty quick that confoosious more or less is very pro-business in much of the way he interprets or thinks of things . Sometimes, he's right on the money (with so many people on here expecting free stuff I can understand why he often takes that approach), other times he does seem to forget that there are a lot of consumer protection laws and rights, and there certainly would be some gray areas if BB suddenly, and drastically changed the terms of the RZGCU membership, since it is a paid membership. Not sure how this conversation came up per-say, but typically in situations like this they would have to inform their members (to the best of their ability) of the change in terms and if they devalue the membership they may be required to offer current members some form of compensation (or in the case of annual memberships allow them to receive the same level of membership through the terms of their payment); but I imagine this would vary greatly from state to state. It can also be hard to prove that a membership has been "devalued" if it isn't something incredibly obvious like going from 10% to 5% trade-in bonus. For example, if they changed it from 10% off used games to 10% off gaming hardware... the value to the individual consumer may have decreased but BB could easily argue that the actual value of the membership is relative or even increased.

Note though, I'm not talking about being banned from trading, just the RZGCU membership itself. You can technically still get that bonus even after being banned, you just can't use your ID.

Most of the time though a business does this just to placate the customers (offending paid members is very bad for business). I work for a company that has been dealing with this exact issue basically for the last 3 months as we have been consolidating several individual reward/loyalty/member programs into one, company wide program.

You're right. I am somewhat pro-business. But I really am just anti-dumbass. Let me explain. I'm fully for consumer protection laws. They are designed to help everyone. What I can't stand are people who think that just because a business does something for goodwill, that it's THE LAW.

It seems to me the dumbest consumers are the ones who think they have a right to everything because it's THE LAW. (when it's not really the law.) You know the types. They usually self-identify by squawking "bait and switch" all the time.

We expect and want businesses not to rip us off. On the flip side, we shouldn't try to rip businesses off. In a different thread, someone tried to argue that it was ok to try to use a canadian best buy coupon because best buy failed to state that it was Canada only on that coupons and that it was their fault. I didn't even bother to argue that.

And if you don't know the type just head over to the BBY forums and go to Customer service boards.

"I spend $1,000s at BBY a year and have been a loyal customer for many years, but I went to return a Blu ray I accidently bought instead of a DVD and they denied me. It was only 3 days past the 30 days. There was no reason why they should have denied me as it was still sealed. I am no longer going to shop at Best Buy again"

Straight from their boards. Along with countless other sheeples that believe that they should always get what they want as the "customer is always right" and that "it is cheaper to keep a customer then bring in new ones"

Well thats just bad customer service on the retailer's part. Sure the receipt states 30 days, but any manager who gives a damn should bend the rules on such a small ticket item. Thats partly how you build customer loyalty. Whether extending the return by a few of days, or even giving the customer store credit, as a mediation. Granted they dont have to, and who knows how the customer acted in store, but upsetting a customer over something so small is not a good way to do business.
