Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Don't kick yourself. The membership wasn't going anywhere. Not like passing on a game (or other) deal then going back to find out someone else bought it.
I hate it when that happens!! But then I thank myself for waiting when the price drops like a brick weeks later. (Of course, I still kick myself for buying Game A at full retail just to find the price dropping a week later, while Game A lies comfortably behind its warm shrinkwrap coat while I'm still playing Game B.)
Back to topic: realistically, I will probably not buy Diablo 3 at Best Buy; I will give my business to the retailer with the best preorder/launch incentives.

I went in today and traded in 14 games and pre-ordered Diablo III. After pre-order snagged $134.20 in credit. Used that to buy some Amazon gift cards to put on the Vita First Edition Bundle.

This is the third time I've traded in games and walked out with well over $100 in credit. Hopefully Best Buy doesn't stop any of these deals any time soon.

It's probably mentioned somewhere in the thread, but I traded in a disc only copy of Batman: Arkham City that I snagged when they were selling the CE for $35 and I already had a copy. They gave me $20 for it, but said to trade-in the whole CE would only be $14. The guy at the counter and I both chuckled at that.

That's weird cause Standard and CE games (from what I've seen) are always the same price regardless since you can't really trade in the extra. Doesn't matter. You made out well so that's good.

I'm going to trade in batman ac when I beat it by Saturday to get the 60% bonus. With the 32$ ill get from the game combined with the ass creed and gears coupons ill be able to get both games for a combined total of less than 2 bucks. Now that's epic

good thing I decided to print out the preorder ticket since the employees usual take too long. I spent about 3 minutes looking for Diablo III but couldn't find it so just printed out a UFC which will be returned.

I then saw a list at a GS showing Diablo III with a May release date...

Uggg, I really dont understand why Best Buy expires its RZ points every year. I just see it as plain greed, stripping 50 or 100 points from each member so they'll have to spend more just to get to the next cert.

It says with pre-order OR purchase of Diablo 3 or UFC Undisputed 3, so I'm gonna go with a pre-order of Diablo 3 for five bones n cash out my entire PS3 backlog(50+ games). I have it figured out down to the nickel just about. I should net almost $600 from all the trades today.;)

Except that the promotion is over. 40% is the best you can get + 10% GCU
Except that the promotion is over. 40% is the best you can get + 10% GCU
I thought of that. My total before promo + 10% GCU bonus is $385 and it's $577.50 after those. But that's not factoring in the $37.50 from the Arkham City/Arkham Asylum GOTY two pack for 360 I just remembered I still have from BF that I paid $28 for.:whistle2:#

So actually around $615 after adding those in.

Like I said, I have this shit figured out down to the nickel.;) That's one thing that the folks at GS always found amusing about when I did trades there. I knew when they socked me for a refurb fee or a value had dropped instantly just by the total at the end.

Well I scanned through the last 80-100 post and most likely missed it but has it been mentioned that trade in value is now added to your RZ account? I had not done a trade in months but today I went in with 9 games and the rep said the trade value now counts towards your RZ points. I was pretty happy since I got $187 plus it should put me over the top for a $5 RZ cert.

Only base value of the games goes into your rz account I I'm not mistaken.

40% was a nice bonus. I walked in today with WWE 12, Transfomers DotM and 007 Bloodstone. I had bought them during the Holiday DOTDs BBY was doing for $30, $5 and $5 respectively. I asked the kid working the games department if they had any kind of trade in bonus going while he was ringing in my trades. He told me I could get a 40% bonus if I bought Twisted Metal today. I told him no thanks and he was like "aw just have it anyway man" and gave the 40% bump with no Preorder or purchase. SO I got $48 for 3 games I paid $44 for 2 months ago. Kind of like a super long rental. Not bad.

I did a huge trade yesterday(50+ games, aka most of my gaming backlog) and ended up with $376 before bonuses and $564 after the 40% Twisted Metal and GCU 10%. I ended up grabbing some pre-paid Visas with about $400 of the credit(and a $5.95 activation fee for each:bomb:) as I told the gaming rep I wanted to be able to get RZ points on my purchases made with the credit and they don't apply when using the credit as is.

They went through fine after I had em double check to make sure it's ok first and I still have about $150 in credit left on the gc they gave me.

Now to decide if I wanna 'upgrade' my upstairs tv to an HDtv or not with the $400 in pp Visa debit cards.;)

Hate to break it to you but many CAGs (including myself) did not/do not receive RZ points when making purchases at BB with the PP Visas.

Surely, the world is coming to an end now. ;) Will that make 2 HD-capable TV/Monitors for you Cheapest?

Also, 50+ backlog games traded in, WOW! Knowing you, at least a good bit of them had to be sealed; was it not worth it to take the time to sell them online, or did you just want to be done with it in one fell swoop? Sounds like you averaged around $10/ea; not bad for what I imagine was in large part cheap clearance games, but I was just wondering if you did the math vice-versa, and what made you decide to go with BB.

Pro-tip: Always go for the bonus, even if you have no intention of buying. Most of the time BB bonuses are linked to pre orders, and when trading in high value games or high quantity games, the $5 fee is well worth the 40%-50% bonus.

That kinda sucks then. Oh well. If I do, then great. If not, then at least I'll receive pounts for my $376 in base trade value I did today since they started giving points for the trades now.;)

Most of them were stuff I got from Sears or with one of the @Gamer coupons, so dividing the total I got by the number of games I traded I broke even or profited on many of them.

Some of the tiv's really sucked for some of them, but that'll teach me to trade them sooner. Although if I had done that then some of the major games I traded(Battlefield 3, Arkham City, etc) had absolutely abysmal values a month or two ago. It was only recently that the values of some of the newer titles rebounded enough for this mass trade of mine to be worth it.

If anything though, I'm still pissed at myself for not waiting on the other mass trade of my backlog I did soon after they started the program. That was another 30-45 games and right before they started doing the Gamer's Club Unlocked and promos.

But yeah, I'm debating grabbing another tv, so the world is definitely gonna end now.;)

Although I will say that I did keep the DLC codes and/or online passes from anything that had them before trading them in just about and some of them I had already sold(BF3 online pass/Karkand code). I think the only one I let slip was the export code from Green Day Rock Band.

Nope. Neither of my local BB stores have the signs up for the B2G1, plus I'm trying to hold onto my remaining credit from my game trades for as long as possible. Although that's been kinda difficult so far, since I already bought Rayman Origins and Dead Rising 2: Off The Record via PM of Amazon's prices in the last 2-4 days alone.
Has anyone tested the infamous B2G1 glitch at Best Buy for their used game sale this week?
I bought 3 games but no glitch for me.
Best Buy now has 40% Extra trade in credit when you preorder Mass Effect 3 or MLB 12 The Show
I don't really like to trade in games from my personal collection; but I'm thinking I might now that there's a 50% bonus toward ME3 (with GZU) + you get a $20 gift card when you buy the game.

Hmm... I could probably trade in BF3 and MW3 since I have them both on the PC, too... I dunno.

Also... man, it's been a long time since I've posted in this thread. I miss it :whistle2:(

How accurate is the trade in estimator?

Battlefield 3 and Batman Arkham City are both were $20 trade in but their limited edition/collectors edition versions are worth only $14 a piece.

I've never had it be wrong, but I've also never seen CEs going for a different value than their regular counterparts.

Updated the OP with the 4 new promos.

Trade in estimator is what you will get (although there have been a few titles that the accurate price doesn't show up till you go through the process of adding the game to your cart (Web of Shadows for 360 is the only one I know off hand though).

They've only recently starting separating the collectors editions from the standard editions. Since BBY accepts disk only trades, the obvious solution would be to keep all of your CE stuff and just trade in the disc by itself.

I'm glad BBY is back to some strong trade in bonuses. When they do these 50% (with Gamer's club) it's almost better (and tons easier) than messing with Craigslist or Ebay for most games.

I've never used these promos to move credit but I've got about $150 in Gamestop credit I'm going to try to move over. Tired of just sitting on it. Now if I can just a couple Games where the math works.......

Yeah, think I'm gonna trade in my copy of Saints Row the Third + Batman: AC from Black Friday towards Mass Effect 3. Been waiting for this deal since they announced the $20 gc when you're an unlocked member. Figured they wouldn't do it this week though due to the Vita trade-ins, wonder what they'll offer next week.

Your best bet there would've been to hope for a GS B2G1 and buy 3 of the newer titles like Battlefield 3, Saint's Row 3 and so on that gets $20-25 before promo at BB and then immediately trade them to BB using the promo. At least that way it's just about break even and possibly a slight profit if you have the PowerUp card at GS, since it's take another $4-5 off each of the two you're buying.

If your PUR card is set to expire soon(like mine is finally), then you could always use $15 of the credit to extend your card, then you'll get a coupon for a B2G1 for renewing if you don't wanna try waiting for GS to do one on their own.;)

But there are probably some good credit transfer games.....if you look hard enough. Just bring up the BB trade value estimator page and keep searching the mid range($15-20) games at GS.com.

I've got a B2G1 from when I renewed awhile back. I think I have a couple more weeks before it expires so I guess I'll break down and use it. Like you said it looks like the "high end" games with the B2G1 is the way to go. I'm still running through the Estimator for a another trade or 2 to finish off my credit. Surprised with 50% it's so hard to find a good one but I'm sure if I keep at it I can dig one up.

Which is the better tiv page, the one on bb.com or the link on the first page? Im going to trade in dead island but one says that the tiv is 14 while the other is 16.

Yea, I traded in Skyrim towards Mass Effect 3.

I received Skyrim as a gift (told my brother to get it when Toys R Us had it for $40 before Christmas). So $40 + tax, and with the promotion eneded up getting $37.50 credit. For as many hours as I put into that game, definitely a good deal.

Argh, I see there's a ME3 bonus this week, but I also see the OP indicates trying to get the bonus on an item you've already pre-ordered is very YMMV.

If I could save some money on my Collector's Edition that would be fantastic.

Just pre order another and cancel one later
Does this promo apply to trade in of a Wii? Amyone know the in store trade in value?
You mean like a Wii system? No. Best Buy doesn't take consoles as of now. Only DSs and (according to the current promo) PSP. Not sure if they will start taking PSP after the promo is over.

Yeah I meant the actual Wii console.

Hmm have some older games that show up for ok values on the estimator.

FF13, SSFIV, Alpha Protocol, Eternal Sonata comes out to $33.60 after 40% bonus for MLB 12. OP faq seems to suggest it usually spot on, is this actually the case from experience? $33.60 aint bad for for those games considering GS tiv and shit prices on glyde. Dont want to deal with CL either but I really want MLB 12, already preordered it at TRU with a $20 GC, might do this instead and save that GC.

Now to see if I can do better selling them elsewhere. Most likely not with these games, surprised AP gets anything considering a lot of the old games I put in give $1 :(

My Best Buy takes consoles. The website quoted me at $115 for my PS3. They only offered me $30 in the store though. F that. I sold it for $150.
