Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Really? Guy asked me to choose, perhaps it just adds auto. If so cool beans. I've traded in like $300 worth of games the last week. Wonder what that equates out to.
I wish there was some way to take 10% of $300 and come up with an answer.

So, I am guessing that if I use the online calculator, it is not calculating in the extra 100%? Sorry if it's been asked already.

No, that's base value.

I’m not sure if its been mentioned here, and I don’t want to dig through the whole thread, but the BBY trade-in app on Android says that the 100% bonus lasts until 6/29.

Anyone know how long it takes BBY to get all these games back into their used stock in store? Getting impatient on that $30 used MP3 I want...ready to see some copies (not to mention sniper elite 2, SH collection, silent hill downpour, etc...) seems my store only gets stuck with a bajillion copies of the same ol shit

Straight from the OP.

FYI: If the post by kangchousa turns out to be legit, Silent Hill Downpour is gonna be $19.99 NEW next week sometime at BB.

Hmm, traded in some games today, left one in the car, went back later and they said I was banned. Not sure what that was about. They just said there was a red flag. Gotta figure out what the deal is. I've basically been trading in old games I never touched or was keeping around for no real reason. Nothing I've traded in has been flipped or even duplicated. Perhaps they only allow you to trade in 1 time a day or something.

anyone been able to figure out any other flips other than that first list with pop, front mission and etc.? i still have around $30 credit at gamestop id like to move.

I know everybody is going crazy over this promo, but I'm taking mine to gamestop. The extra $5 per game for trading in 7 actually puts GS TIV a buck or two higher on many "older " games

Got 148 for 9 games.

Noteworthy:
Paid 6.50 for majin and got 11. Sadly I would have gotten a few bucks more this morning. Price just dropped

Paid $8 for toy story 3 and got 10

Paid 10 for child of Eden and got 16

Paid 26 for ace combat during the target b1g1 snafu and got 21 for it. So 5 bucks for 25 hours of play, win in my book.
Alright. According to Mariel at the BB forums, the trade limit IS three per title per year on the same platform. But as Jimmienomam had said prior on there, they may also leave it up to the individual stores to set their own limits.

So unfortunately best advice I can give my fellow CAG's is to ask your gaming reps what the limit is for your store BEFORE doing the 3 limit on anything.

Here's a link to the thread:

http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-B...r-title-per-year-for-the-Best-Buy/td-p/527468

And the response quoted:
if this is the case there's no reason for me being banned.

Officially give up on Best Buy game trade ins took in a game but only had the disc the guy working the trade ins counter looked at me like I was stupid and said you need the case artwork and manual and even tried to tell me the online code had to be unused. Then today attempted to go trade a game in should of got me $20 after the 100% trade in credit they said they can only offer $1 I just turned around and left.
Traded in a game today.
The BB employee told me that this trade in deal will last the rest of June.
"All games, all month."
The employee I talked to said it was extended til next Saturday. Let's hope you're right :)
I’m not sure if its been mentioned here, and I don’t want to dig through the whole thread, but the BBY trade-in app on Android says that the 100% bonus lasts until 6/29.
An employee at mine said the same.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

I had an unrelated bad experience (the registers weren't counting my 10% bonus) so I made a small purchase, filled out the online survey with all negative scores, and immediately got an email from the store manager. Through emailing with him, I was able to get the situation resolved. If you were to do the same, it would be an easy way to make that employee have consequences.

You could've always just pointed out the extra 10% not being added and had them correct the situation right then and there instead of going through all the hassle you did.;)

I picked up MW3 w/ coupon, Dragon Age 2 w/ coupon, and Resistance 3 w/ coupon the other day. It was the first time this "gaming specialist" had seen someone use a coupon from the @Gamer mag. Needless to say, he messed up the transaction somehow but 10 minutes later and after having a manager over to assist, the guy got it right and I walked out with all of my games at the correct discounted prices.

He better get used to seeing those coupons because I plan on using them every month, regardless of what game it is cuz I'll just sell it online if the price is right.
Does Best Buy still sell Visa Gift Cards? I can't find them anywhere unless they were moved to a different section of a store.
YMMV, not every store stocks them.

So many of my games are worth less than $4 that it doesn't even seen worth it. May as well hold onto 'em.

The handful of games that are worth anything I'd like to keep. In fact, Alice: Madness Returns is worth $16 with the 100% promo. Considering I paid $12 for it form Gamefly I'd actually be making money on that deal.

Alas, I really liked the game and I was planning on keeping it.

Ugh. I'm torn between butchering my beloved collection and getting a nice chunk of BB credit. I never trade in games.

I've got PS+, and Ratchet: A4O and LBP2 are worth $10. A combined $42 after the extra 110% is just too damn good to pass up when I still have digital copies. Hell, that alone almost covers my next PS+ renewal.

I'm getting rid of a few old stinkers for $10.50 each. Plus a few games I haven't bought, never touched and won't be taking a loss on.

It's driving me nuts trying to decide what to keep and what to sell when it comes to games I actually like. LBP1, Infamous 1 + 2, and Just Cause 2. That's $44 for games I'll never touch again and have digital copies of. Damn you BB and your amazing deal!

EDIT

I think I'm going to take the plunge. Eleven games, seven of which I have digital copies off, and four I don't want. $149.10 after bonus and Unlocked.

I hate giving them up, but that practically pays for ten new games from GameFly to replace them. Can't really say no to that.

For anyone that picked up Gamer's Club Unlocked, does it take effect immediately when getting it in-store or does it take 24 hours to activate?

Ours was immediate - the guy unlocked my account and applied the 10%. After it was all done, he gave me a gift card. He then had me use the gift card to purchase the membership. The nice thing about that is I didn't pay any money out of pocket, and I was trading in about $180 in games, so I actually earned $3 more dollars by getting Unlocked.

The guy was also nice enough to give us two older @gamer magazines that they had laying around. He scanned them and then zero'd out the prices so they were free.

Good to know. Guess I'll get the GCU at the register, pay for it separately and then trade in the couple of games that I was trading in (LBP2, Infamous 2) right afterwards. Seems easier to do it two transactions.

I'll also grab a copy of the @Gamer mag that's in-store and see if the cashier will do the same for me.

^^ I did this yesterday when trading in some games. I bought the GCU first ten did my trade which netted me the extra 10% right then. The employee did also give me a current magazine which me scanned an the register automatically zeroed the cost of the mag. Hope that helps.
After my trades I got $193 in BB credit which is pretty sweet. Just need to figure what to do with it. Guess it will sit until a good deal passes.

Depends on how you look at it. Sometimes I check the TIV and think it's not worth the trouble. Honestly though, if I don't plan to play the game again, I think it's worth trading in, even if I'm getting $1 or $2 back. It's better than getting nothing and having something take up space/collect dust.

I brought a few $1 and $2 game to take advantage of the 100%. Lol.

I just remember they were having problems when it first started because they weren't clicking some box at the final checkout screen. It's all tied to your RZ account so once it's in, it will update on your account as well.

so can i let someone else use my gamers unlocked card? want trade in a couple of the same titles and get 10% but dont want 2 get banned. would they system know u traded in the same titles with one membership card with different ids?

Yeah its been easier for me to trade in my games, knowing i got them relatively cheap from Blockbuster,Target etc. Whats frustrating,i only have PS3 games, example Vanquish 360 value is $5.00 but for PS3 is only 50 cents, damnit lol.

Once you start trading you never go back. I started by needing to get rid of some games on my shelf so I did an Amazon trade of a bunch of games. Then I started trading to Best Buy, often at a profit. Then I turned into a flipper for a while and amassed a huge collection of games. Now I'm just trying to get rid of the games. I don't even honestly have time to go back and play the old games and probably never will anyway.

I'm shocked that haven't already signed up for a GCU account.

That's how it started for me too, I always came up with the idea that people were trading in games at a loss and that there was really no point in doing trade ins. I always never had problems selling my games on Craigslist when I was done and I always received a better price than what I would get at Gamestop.

But these promos that have been going on, especially with BB are really killing it lately. I never thought I'd trade in 14 games, let alone two or three.

I do want to keep it classy though, don't think I'm going the flipper route since $4 extra for a game really isn't much to waste my time on doing it. Just figure I'll buy games on sale, amass a nice collection and actually play the games this time. Once I'm done, wait for a good TiV promo and dump them all back in.

I only trade in for a profit, and for old ass games worth more then $5.

I have too big of a backlog as it is. I'm thinking of selling my old school collection unless it's something I REALLY want. I just cant keep up with everything coming out, and still play older games. I have PS1/2 rpgs just laying around.

I traded in about 40 old games that I will never play again, or got on PS+ for free, and ended up with enough money to buy a new camera, a nice tv stand, and a stereo dock for my Ipod. I was very happy with the sale :)

*creepy voice* Jooooooin Uuuuuus!!!!!!

I managed to pull my self from my Ratchet & Clank:A Crack In Time because I saw what it was worth at BB and saw the Kmart price drop thread.

Wish I'd checked BEFORE taking my Greatest Hits copy to BB, but $4.50(bought today at KM) for this version will do.

Just don't think about it! You might get them for $5 later!:applause:

Right now you can get a $5 copy of Dragon Age II for PS3 or 360, a $10 copy of Resistance 3 and numerous other deals with the coupons in the magazine.

Yeah. They forgot to scan the lil brochure thing that adds the subscription to your RZ account in conjunction with the coupon they needed to scan to unlock it.

I eventually had to have someone on the BB forums unlock it from the corporate end of things, since they tried it 2-3x or more using just the SKU from the unlocking coupon they sent me along with my RZ card and that brochure thing. But from what I'm hearing now that unlocking coupon is no longer a required step in the process.

That was me to a tee. I started out trading my own collections of games, but by the time it reached a crescendo I was always doing 3x everything I was trading in. I figured why go for small peanuts when I could spend a lil and make 2-3x what I was gonna make with just my own collection. That was my biggest mistake.:whistle2:#

Usually most people do it the other way around, where they're trying to get rid of the red case GH versions since it fucks up the feng shui of their gaming collection or whatever. But some of the GH versions have patches and other stuff right on the disc and/or glitches fixed, so sometimes it's better to get that 'ugly' GH version versus having to put up with possible issues with the earlier versions.

I never understand the hate on gh version cases, if they hate the red cases, just take out the slip coverart of the game, and put it in a regular case. that is what i do

Lol. I like the red color. Hmm.. Ultra-Noob question... Do you think the copy I had installed the additional info on my PS3?

Not everybody has extra cases lying around though.

I don't know. I just know that some games provide extra content or bug fixes in the GH versions. Mafia II was one of the ones that provided extra content for the GH version versus the normal version.

LOl, i got a few from gamestop, when i bought some of their used games without cover art or manual. and some from bestbuy pre-owned games i bought now thinking about it, i probably have about almost 20 extra ps3 cases,Lmao

I bought like 400-500+ from Hollywood Video when they went out of biz around here. I cleaned out the one store of them. I figured I could sell em to folks who didn't get the original cases from GS when they buy games. But I think if I've sold about 20-30 out of that lot it's a miracle.

Then I got a free rolling rack/gondola from the one yard down the line that originally would cost $400-500. It was sitting in knee high weeds in someone's side yard. The family used to use it when they'd have a yard sale they said, but hadn't used it in years. So at least I have somewhere to store all the cases that's nice and organized as opposed to having to dig through the HWV bags to find cases.;)
