Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

You should play some Just Cause 2 and start uploading videos to YouTube from in game.;) Some CAG's who bought it during the sale a week or two ago and my friends on PSN have been having a blast making videos in the game.

Most of mine are only 30 seconds in length usually. I've had some nutty stuff occur in game since I started making videos.

I love just cause 2, and grabbed it a month or so after release. Last year I got back into it and my buddy and I were making some funny ass stunt videos. I remember this one where I had like a garbage truck thing and tethered a crotch rocket to it, then went to town on the high rise highways. The bike was bouncing off everything and did some crazy physics breaking crap. Never had more fun in a video game... Beer+goofing off in JC2 with a good buddy = the best

is just cause 2 like a sand box style game like gta? cuz that is how it looks like to me from the youtube videos i seen

I tethered the one sports car from the one airport to a jetliner last night with disastrous results. About 20 seconds after taking off the car slammed into the body of the plane causing it to blow up midair.

The body of the plane kept aloft though and was dragging the car with it. it finally came down on an island about 2-3 miles from where we took off from. I was about to upload a video of it to YouTube, but that portion of the game messed up(never brought up the YT sign in page and got stuck on the screen saying 'uploading to YouTube').

But I did make a video about a week or two ago of me jumping from scooter to scooter on one of the raised highways. I had three of them rolling along on their own at one point.

Yeah. It a sandbox style game. There's a ton of little settlements that you can take over by finding hidden packages(which aren't so hidden, they kinda have a sheen to them that you can see from a decent distance away) and eliminating enemy items like gas pumps, propaganda trailers and water towers from them.

Or you could just roam around the countryside just carjacking people and never do a single mission.;)

Best part is if you run across some really nutty stuff in the game, you can make a video of it and upload it to YouTube.;)

great success trading at BB today! Got $88 for 4 games, walked out with the Skyrim CE, Halo 3, and the Halo 4 preorder litho for nothing out of pocket with another $13 in BB credit left. The guy taking my trade was a fellow Skyrim fan so just talked Dawnguard with him during the whole trade process and he said he had done the same thing I had with upgrading to the CE.

Traded in:

-Skyrim ($17, $34 after bonus). Upgraded to CE
-NHL 12 ($14, $28 after bonus). Considering how sports games tank in value and the fact that I got this for $40 last October, $28 was a great deal for a game I wasnt intending to play much.
-NHL 11 ($7, $14 after bonus). This one was scratched up but the guy took it anyway so win there.
-NFS Hot Pursuit ($6, $12 after bonus). I waited for a long time to get this game and finally did during an EA daily deal last year for $9.99, but I just couldnt enjoy this as much as I loved Hot Pursuit 2 on Gamecube. I'll probably rebuy at somepoint but $12 was a better deal than having it gather dust for months.

Couldnt get rid of anything else since my collection is pretty small and I wanted to keep my games (I only have 20ish 360 games). The other games I thought about getting rid of had pretty low TIV's compared to what it would cost to rebuy them down the road when I get the itch to play them again (GTA IV, MW1, MW2). All in all though, a great day!

Traded in a bunch of games. Unlocked didn't apply, so had him ring me up again and apply it then. Went from $98 to $111.....10% definitely isn't $13. Looked at receipt and it was right, so appararently he didn't even scan a game the first time around.

Didn't know Just Cause 2 had that feature. Very cool. More games need to start incorporating stuff like that.

Did any of you guys notice the Vault cases they had for $25? They had the MLG and BF3 for xbox only. They were located by the gaming counter at the store I go to.

I noticed, they were at the far back near the PS Vita for me. I thought they were pretty slick, but I honestly had no idea what it was for and didn't need an extra box taking up space.

The one I found resembled this one: http://www.evilcontrollers.com/catalog/product/gallery/id/515/image/30/

Now that you mentioned it though, going to YouTube it and see what it's all about :)

Edit: Damn, I just noticed this one. Looks absolutely sick. Kinda wish I had a GoW 360 right about now.

Yeah. I'm kinda hoping that GTA V has something like that as well.
Some of them look pretty sweet. I just don't care for the bulky look you get from the cases.
I agree, I also found them pretty bulky and honestly ugly. But after seeing that GoW one, I kinda want one haha. Looks pretty cool, just wonder how it handles heat.
I forgot about those vaults. I had been thinking about getting the PS3 BF3 vault if I can find 1.

So is this a price cut for all the vaults, or just specific ones? The only ones I found were those Helghast looking helmets. Didn't see any others around, going to ask tomorrow and see what's up.

Honestly after seeing that Gears vault, I kinda want one. Would look absolutely sick on my future 360 lol.

How often do Best Buy prices change? I just went through and jotted down values on everything, and I plan on popping in Thursday or Friday to make my trades--wanna make one last play of each title for old time's sake.

Saw MLG Vault at two different BB and one was priced $24.99 and its in the clearance section(same store has the BF3 vault for $24.99), while the other store only had MLG and was priced $69.99 so I guess its YMMV.

Pretty often, I know people regret waiting even 1 day to make trades..

Anyway my latest trade to BBY last Saturday was a very pleasant one getting someone who was good at their job, 11 games turned into $180 credit. Bought Gamer Club unlocked in the same transaction and pretty much paid for itself and I just checked my RZ account and Gamer Club unlocked was applied today, my trades also showed up today in there which is a surprise since I didn't know you get RZ points for them.

Oh, well, damn. Now I'll wonder for the rest of the day how much they've changed in the last week.
Oh, well, damn. Now I'll wonder for the rest of the day how much they've changed in the last week.
Many of the middle tier games have not changed much. Even Max Payne 3 is still $16 base for the entire week. I am trading 6 today that never changed since the 100% bonus started. All are between $3-7 base. I would not worry too much.
MW3 is $17 base today. Is that up or down? I'm pretty sure that's changed, but I can't remember if it was higher or lower recently.
higher. I think it dropped to $14 with the sale last week.

Well, left my games home this morning by mistake. Meant to grab 'em on the way out of the door. Guess I'll be trading them in tomorrow. Here's hoping prices don't drop in the next 30 hours.

I don't know if this has been answered before but I have two questions.

1. We can trade in games that we didn't buy from Bestbuy , correct?

2. Does the online estimate include the normal value + 100% trade in or just the normal value ( e.g. $5 for one case)?

Thanks in advance.

2. Just the normal value--e.g., Max Payne 3 is listed as trading in for $16 online, and you would get $32 total when you trade in-store.

oh damn..i know i'm probably late, but i see the base TIV of MW3 went up to $17 instead of $14 :O

netting $35.70 after promos and GCU!

i just rebought this game last week for $20 after sale, GCU coupon and RZ cert...looks like im going to trade it right back in haha

Does bestbuy still take DSi's for tradein? How much do they give us now? Their console tradein thing on their site is glitchy as all hell and rarely works, it lists zero for 95% of the consoles even though they still take them.

Dang. I thought I deleted that link fast enough after seeing 1 store close has it!

Not sure about all the vaults. I saw the deal on SD some weeks back.

I see there's an ME3 vault, as well. Don't remember if BB has that 1 or not.

$35.70 MW3, glad I had to finish well start single player so I kept it another week. I'm off next couple days and it's raining so I guess i'll beat SP so I can trade it in. HAHA MP time 10 DAYS 13 hours, hmm wonder why I got burned out in late Feb/early March and never came back. ;)

Ok so my trip to Best Buy went well. Traded in 6 games for $62. The guy up front told me about the 100% bonus and I said I already traded 37 games last week and he responds "you're that guy". Not that it was a lot but I think I was the 1st big trade for them Sunday so I must have made the rounds.

Yeah, I bought this last week with the GCU online coupon for $24.99. Gonna do a run through the campaign this week and give it right back to BB.

Yeah it is cases like this where I end up getting rid of a game because the TIV is just too good to pass up. I am never actively looking to flip but in cases like this I just trade for the added value. Same thing happened with BF3. It was DOTD for $19.99 a few weeks ago so I bought it. Well, the TIV last Sunday with bonus was $29.40 so I just had to trade it. The great thing about most video games is the price continues to drop over time so take you credit when it works in your favor, even if your backlog is not very deep. The game will come back eventually to a price worth buying again.
I can't figure out the TIV for Mario Kart Wii using the trade in estimator. Does anyone know the value?
The estimator says Mario Kart Wii is $10 base, so it would be $20 with the 100% promo, $21 if you have GC Unlocked

Ok! Traded in $533 worth of games today and turned around and got a wifi Vita and ANOTHER $50 gift card. Was pleasantly surprised at the total. :)

Well done. What games did you get for the Vita?
Well done. What games did you get for the Vita?
Well I already had Hot Shots and Wipeout from the $20 Walmart sale and also got Modnation Racers the other day from Best Buy for $12...bought Lumines today along with a memory card and case....even got my wife a $25 iTunes card and still have around $200 left.

If I pick up a Vita, I'd probably get Modnation and Mortal Kombat first. Sucks the reviews for Resistance aren't that great, I'd love a good FPS on it. I have about $1,000 credit to Gamestop I was saving for a Wii U splurge but I'm pretty sour on it after E3. I might just pick up a Vita in the next few months. Still hoping to see a bundle by the end of the summer.
So without scouring the thread, are we allowed to post a list of the prices we got for the games we traded in?
Not sure, but it's not really necessary. You could just list the games and if someone is interested they can just look up the base value on the Best TIV estimator and figure it out from there.
Oh, and Jaylisjay, I'm going to get Gravity Rush tomorrow.....it's supposed to be the best Vita game to date
Forgive my ignorance but is that a racing game?

Traded in 26 old games and got $236 after the promotion. The newest game I traded in was Bulletsorm. Most of the games were like Soul Calibur IV and Stranglehold - games I had no intention of ever playing again and were just taking up shelf space. Happy with my decision :)

No it's a lot more rewarding than that.

Ugh, they are doing updates to BB.com again at the moment. Hoping nothing drops (like MW3).

Anyone know the TIV of Red Dead Redemption?
