Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Honestly,I think that would suck. This promo blows for newer released games. Hopefully he's wrong.

You trade in newer releases?:shame: Hopefully you didn't pay MSRP for those games or if you did you got them at BB so you could PM lower prices for 60 days now.;) Never trade in newer releases during bigger promos like this, since they will always lower the values to shit levels.

Then again, I think the reason we're seeing so many newer games getting crap values now is because they're also getting MSRP price drops quicker than usual nowadays.:whistle2:#

yeah just traded 6 games in yesterday that got a $1 boost today. only would have made 12 extra dollars but still. who knew tivs would go back up a lil, lol. peace all
The trade-in system is down right now, supposedly.
Yeah, at a BB right now. They can't seem to pull it up.
Yeah, at a BB right now. They can't seem to pull it up.
Sucks too, cause the closest ones to me that do trades are 15 minutes away.

Hmmm was going to bring in some games from gamestop to get some credit for SSX/SCV in a few hours, hopefully it's back up by then.

i went in my store to pick up a bunch of games and they were shocked that i didnt have any to trade in. i traded skyrim/mw3/ghost recon yesterday and then they go up today! im out $12 but oh wells. usually you don't expect tiv's to go up. lol

Traded in a set of Gamestop flips today. $56 -> $90 isn't bad at all. Their system was still down when I went there, but he set it up manually.
Lots of games went down by $1 or 2.
I looked right now for Lollipop Chainsaw cause I was scared that it probably dropped even more. It's 1 dollar higher. So weird. Hope it stays that much till Tuesday. Also, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is still 11 bucks based. I traded in yesterday assuming it would of tanked on Sunday. Not yet.

Huh, looks like I very narrowly avoided the trade-in blackout (went at ~3:25pm EST). :\ I traded in a bunch of DS games from GS for flipping purposes and used the gift card (along with six @Gamer coupons) to get two copies of SSX and SCV, Deadliest Warrior, and Resistance 3 that I later traded in to GS for major profit. :D
Still waiting on Assassins Creed Revelations to stop being 1$.
Considering it went down to $10 w/ coupon, then free with purchase of Ghost Recon, I doubt it will.

Nah I never pay full price unless I either get a gift card, or I have a reward certificate to cut the price down. Oh,and yes,I did get it at best buy.

Same here. I wasn't going to trade Lollipop Chainsaw to BB because the TIV started at $10 last week and has managed to get up to $16 since then. I just need it to hold out til Wednesday when I can go to a different BB store to trade since mine has no idea how to include my GCU membership to get my extra 10% boost.

Is there anything I can do to ensure that I get my extra 10%? The last few times they've scanned my card and looked up my phone number yet the computer doesn't seem to register my membership. The only time I got the 10% bonus was when I did a trade at the video game department but since then my store has relegated trades to customer service and those cashiers seem to have no clue what to do or what the promos are.

This trade in deal was so good to me. Aside from all the games in my collection I traded to afford four Fall releases without paying extra, I bought Inversion for $21.19 with a gift card for the DOTD last week, played it with a friend, then traded it back on Saturday for $21 gift card. So $.19 to "rent" the game. What I didn't know is that the BB gaming manager said if you buy the game there, then trade it back, to bring your receipt and the process is way faster: no customer lookup, no thumbprint, etc.
Same here. I wasn't going to trade Lollipop Chainsaw to BB because the TIV started at $10 last week and has managed to get up to $16 since then. Try having them enter the email associated with your GCU account

I had a similar problem when I signed up for my membership. The only thing that worked was my e-mail address.

I love my Best Buy. They're not douches like Gamestop in my town. In my town you have to be 18 to trade in games to gamestop, but in the next town over (10 minutes away) you don't have to be. So, I go there. BUT, i can only get store credit because I'm 17 but the neighboring town doesn't let me trade in at all.

Best Buy's great because mine doesn't fingerprint and they blatantly lets me use my dad's license in order to trade in since we share the same name. The 2 trade in employees don't give a crap for one of them goes to my school and the other is a cool dude.

I have $120 in giftcards over 7 games. (My friend game me Black Ops 360 for the hell of it, he just had a copy despite owning no Xbox) With this PS Vita deal with the $60, I'm considering it. But, I barely play any games besides CoD anymore (I know...I Know) because I just don't have it in me anymore to sit through games anymore (I used to play for hours) but games like Uncharted 3 and Darkness 2 kept me busy, few gems. So, I don't know about the Vita because I don't know If I want it just to have it and will make use of it....
did anyone get points for trading in after the fact? i had already traded in the games before learning about this.
Trades (just like buying items) take 5 days to show up on your RZ account. If it doesn't show up, you can contact a MOD over on the BBy forums. You will have to supply proof of trades (the paper contract form) in order for you to be credited. From when I dealt with them, they have no way to add your trade in games to your RZ account so it will never show. What they did was credit me the amount of points I should of been rewarded with. If you don't have your contract to show them, then there's nothing they can do.

Heads up, it may take some time for them to get back to you. They seem very busy and it sounds like the way they work is they fix the issue of the first people in line before moving onto the next. They will help though. Just it may take time.

Yeah, I just need it till Tuesday. I already beat the game. I loved it and Platinum it. I have no job or money so I'm pretty much been trading in every game I buy quickly so I still get money (since I always PM these games I buy). I'm not really losing out in money which makes me happy. BBy is pretty far so I usually walk there, but don't want to cause of this heat. I'll do it when I'm also gonna buy something. Dedication.
why can't we just have a full on flipping subforum?

That'd solve a lot of the issues on the board I think.
We'll get to that eventually. It's just a matter of time.

Finished up Lollipop Chainsaw so I'm going to trade it in today. Also going to trade in FF XIII-2 because I can't get into that game for the life of me. Not sure what I will pick up next. Thinking about Batman Lego 2.

Gotta love that the "Top Video Game Trade-Ins" consist of SSX, Soul Calibur 5, and Resistance 3. And thanks to the flippers, anyone who legitimately wanted to trade any of those in will now be offered a whopping $4.

Those likely dropped due to the sale
There's a 100% bonus going on right now - they'll be offered $8.
Gamers unlocked makes it $8.40. Pull out the online pass to resell for 3-5 and after fees, cost of the games etc you can make a solid 1.50. Do that 3 times and you buy a value meal. :)

Anyone who wanted to trade them in could go to Gamestop just like the flippers.

Lol, they would have dropped anyway. They arent gonna give more for the TIV than what you paid for the game.

They've been dropping the trade values of games that were on sale either due to the @Gamer coupons or their Deal Of The Day offerings and have been doing so for a while. So if you want to trade in your copy of SSX or SC V, just wait till next week once they're off sale and the value should go back up. They did it with Batman: Arkham City and many other games that they had on sale. So it's really nothing new.

As for the 'omg flippers' thing, there are places besides BB to trade into. You have TRU, GS and even Amazon. Although last time I checked the values for those two games tanked on there due to people 'locking them in'. Moreover, if you have an FYE or other Transworld Entertainment store near you you could also check there as you can get cash for trades or an automatic 20% bump if you choose credit. Albeit their prices on merchandise suck 90% of the time, but if you look hard enough you CAN find a deal.;)

Having worked at an FYE, always ask them to check the price, I've worked at several different stores and I can tell you we suck at updating sticker prices.

This. My phone number only brings up someone else's account that's not me. Perhaps that's what you have going on. Ever since I started giving them my email address, no problems.

Oh I know. The guys at the closest one would never update anything. I snagged some WWE set that had a DVD and some bust of the Undertaker a year or two ago for like $10 because I saw it mentioned online somewhere. But lately they've been pretty good about marking stuff right. Unfortunately their quality on used items has gone in the crapper. I think they must have ex GS employees working there now who don't give a shit, since the cases and even discs look like crap sometimes.:whistle2:#

I still remember trading in Skyrim (disc only cause they wouldn't accept my CE contents) and getting $34 while it was on sale for $34.99.

If only they would accept my Mass Effect 3 game, too bad it's the "N7 Collectors Edition"..

But why would you want to trade in the CE contents? They don't give you anything extra for it, so why bother giving them everything when they more than likely won't sell those extra items with the game once it's processed and shipped back to stores?

But the only reason you really got the $34 was because of the 100% promo, which is the only one on the system right now. So the original tiv for Skyrim was $17. I know because I traded mine in a few weeks ago in order to upgrade to the CE.;) I got $35.70 though cuz of the 10% GCU bump.:D
