Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

If only they would accept my Mass Effect 3 game, too bad it's the "N7 Collectors Edition"..
Are you trying to trade in your ME3 game? They should take it. I've traded collector edition games. There isn't anything extra on the disc dispite saying collector on it so it's why they could take it in.

Debating on trading Max Payne 3 for $28. The multiplayer's okay, and I've got all of the golden gun pieces and clues. I'm going to get a new PC eventually and will no doubt get it for that.
Didn't get my 10% extra credit and RZ points -.- . Never gonna get help from a woman again
hah, the one time I didnt get my bonus it was chick too. She spent like literally 3 minutes per disc too, what was worse is all my games are PS3.

I live in IL, just started trading some stuff, and noticed that I couldn't find any Kindle gift cards. Well, at least in the store I went to. I really wanna convert my BB GCs to Amazon's-- is there no other way?

Not that I'm aware of. Are you sure you checked really good around the kindle/tablet area? The BB I go to has them hanging on a display across from the tablet section. It's hanging with iPad covers and accessories and some other random shit.

If you live anywhere near Bloomington/Normal, they have them. They're in a really random spot though. They're not near any other gift cards. I found them way back in the computer section next to the Amazon Kindle and eReader accessories.

IL is one of few states that Amazon/Kindle GCs are not sold locally..

I too live in IL. It's due to IL wanting to tax amazon customers some stores don't carry Amazon GCs. But Amazon was bascially promoting tax evasion by not paying tax on online purchases from them. That's what the clerk told me when I asked if they carry them. Luckily My local branch at least had Kindle ones. I suggest you call and ask. If not see if BB website has them.

How is that random? They're kindle gift cards after all

Now it's random stores in IL that can carry them. I do see them in BB and Target around me.

That's awesome! Do you live in the area? I actually live about an hour away and that's the closest Best Buy to me. My girlfriend goes to ISU and lives there, so I was staying with her this weekend.

Ya I'm in the blo-no area. There's a cool mom n pop place called Mega Replay by there you should check out too if you haven't. It's not super super cheap but they have movies and retro stuff too.

I guess maybe the system is still down for trading? I just got back from there. I couldn't trade so I couldn't buy either since it's the only form of money I have to spend. They told me to come back later. I assume it was working since others have mentioned it's working now.

It's up and down. It was down for 20 minutes yesterday while I was trying to trade, and it finally went back up.

That's pretty cool. I'll check it out next time I'm in the area. It sucks having your closest BB be over an hour away, so I definitely had to take advantage of this trade-in promo while I was there.

So is the estimator online pretty accurate? I've never traded in a game to BB yet, and I have a copy of Brave for the DS that shows $8. Can anyone confirm if that's still the TIV in store (before bonus)?

I traded in 7 games yesterday and all were dead on. The trade in value they have shown online is pre-bonus value.

I got GS used game prices for 4 of the 7 games I traded in. I'll take that all day long.

Ive flipped to bestbuy a ton and the estimator has always been 100% accurate for me :)

both :ps3: and :360: TIVs for Modern Warfare 3 jumped back up $1 (now $16 or $32 after promo applied) since the last time I checked about a week ago. I actually pulled the boneheaded move of bringing in the case and manual with a few other games and had forgotten to take it out of my console.

*palm to face*

i gave my brother like 20 games to trade in for me on fri night. i noticed the tiv's for a few (mw3, skyrim, ghost recon) all jumped up a dollar so 31.50->33.60 so i thought i was out like $12. i went by my mom's house today (my bro lives at home still) and he's like yeah the pile is right there. lol. so i guess im not out yet. im gonna hassle him to do it tomorrow. i told him ill give him the 10% bonus in cash, so it benefits both of us ;)

I called into the Trading Center to see if I could get my ban lifted. They told me a supervisor would call me. Missed the call, then got this note:

***

I attempted to reach you by phone, but you were unavailable.

We previously spoke on January 3, 2012 regarding your ban from participating in the Best Buy Trade-In Program. I would like to outline a few key points we discussed at that time:

1. You were banned on 12/8/11 because you exceeded the 3 same-title games per platform limit that had been imposed, at that time, when you traded in 7 copies of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood for Xbox360 and 6 copies of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.
2. In addition to exceeding the 3 same-title games per platform limit, you were also trading in up to 3 games of the same title and platform, in a volume consistent with that of a dealer. It is clear from your history, you were not using the games you were trading in, for personal use, when this program is intended to give customers a way to get money for games they are finished playing, so that they may purchase new ones (or anything else of interest at Best Buy).
3. I informed you that your account would be reviewed for possible reinstatement in 1 year from the date you were banned, which would be 12/8/12. This does not mean your account will surely be reinstated. I’d like to be honest with you and note that it is highly unlikely your account will be reinstated due to the nature of your being banned. You traded in a very high volume of games for a large sum in a short period of time.
4. Best Buy reserves the right to refuse business for any reason we deem necessary.

Your ban will not be lifted and this matter is non-negotiable. No further action will be taken in regards to this matter, therefore I recommend you find another means of sale for your products.

Glad to see they take action against people like you, that in the end, ruin deals for those of us that actually want to buy a game and play it. :applause::applause::applause::applause::applause::applause::applause::applause::applause: Bestbuy

I love this looking at this thread and retards trying to find new ways to trade in games after being banned lol. Was it worth it at the end to trade all those games and get an extra 20$ credit and never ever take advantage of these awesome promos? I think im going to continue doing my system of trading in a couple of games some to flip and fly under radar and profit in the long over the years then go apeshit and trade in games like my life depended on it. Continue the good work banning bestbuy!

I agree with you btw

manager wouldn't let me stack my unlocked gamer 10% bonus to my 100% trade ins, said you can't double dip...even though he said, yeah it makes sense that you should but the cpu won't let me.

...so he took 10% off my purchase which amounted to the same that I would have gotten in bonus TIV. I don't care how I saved, I just know that I did and I left with basically the same deal.

he tried, maybe not hard enough but in the end I still saved about the same amount if not a $1 or $2 more from the price reduction on my purchase that day.

In all honesty, I did binge at the end because the writing was on the wall that I would be banned at some point based on what others were reporting (had maxed out a lot of games at 3x copies per console and had gone over to 4x on several games by accident). All I called into to ask was that now that they have strict rules if they would allow me to begin trading again under those rules, but I really think this particular supervisor does not like me lol.

It's so much easier to do it all myself, but if I have to bring in the wife to complete new trades so be it. What still irks me is that if they have rules in place, why not create a trade-in system that would reject at the register? As it stands now, someone could still accidently go over a limit and then be blindly banned. Crazy system.

I'm glad that there is some concrete evidence of what gets the ban. I guess that was during the BBV 5 for 20 sales... Glad I stuck with the 3 per title per platform then... mostly.

I don't have anything left to trade, anyway. I traded the last of my games that I am not keeping or playing when they started the 100% bonus. I only own about 15 games total now.

That's the thing. They won't accidentally go over the limit and be banned because it seems like there is a human at the other end looking at the whole of your trading history.

So if some soccer mom accidentally trades in 4 copies of Nintendogs but mostly 1 of everything else, they will just let it slide.

every time I trade in, i tell them that I'm unlocked first thing. One time I didn't and they had to start over. I wonder if you have to type in the phone number first before you start the trade for the unlocked 10% to take effect. I dunno. Just guessin.

Yeah I regret getting banned I would have done a lot less if I knew how it would turn out. I even made sure I was within the rule by never trading in more than 3 a year by keeping a log of my trade ins but that letter only confirms my belief that I was banned on the ”dealer activity” which I understand from their POV.

Even though it comes across as douchebaggery some of us were just trying to be efficient with our trips to Best Buy. I'd go to BB weekly to pick up whatever promo they had at the moment so I figured I might as well buy and bring multiple copies from all of the Gamefly sales (since online flips are convenient). I'm sure for all the other banned folks that followed the same process as me had the same line of thinking.

Like it or not there's a difference between a guy doing 15 copies of one game than the others that made an effort to stay within the stated rules.

Do you really think getting banned from trade-ins at Best Buy is going to stop the flippers? HAHAHA, it's not like they are the only person that trade's in games there. They shall always find a way. Plus if you really want to get back into the Gamer's Club all you need to do is pay another $15 on another persons identity and voila, back in. After all, what is a couple Gamers Club subscription's when you're getting $500 Best Buy Giftcards LOL.

It was cases like yours where I just threw my hands in the air and said screw it. I followed the "letter of the law" as well, then others were getting banned for following the 3x rule. It does appear others came out unscathed while following the 3x rule, so maybe I would have been ok and not been banned. I guess I'll never know now :).

 this is the type of "gamer' I'm tired of seeing on CAG. LOL LOL LOL!

Most people don't want to bother their friends or SOs to go trade in games and waste their time. It's not the $15, it's the hassle.

Don't really give a damn if you don't like that type of "gamer", go press your ignore button. If I can find a way to turn 5 dollars into 10, then I'm going to do it. Sorry not everyone was hand fed by their parents. I never said I was banned nor if I would buy multiple copies just to profit AKA flipper. Don't get mad at the people taking advantage just because you can't.

I'm not sure what your logic is here. It's not that hard to buy a game and then trade in back in.

hand fed by my parents? No, I got an education and then got a job. Try it.

lololol apparently its okay for poor people to excessively flip games. u should stop eating doritos; junk food is making you dumb.
