How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

You can buy BF3 first and played it for about 10 days to decide if you want to keep it. If you really like it, then keep playing it and wait around Black Friday to buy MW3 when there is a good deal. If you don't like it, you can just trade it in with 60% bonus to get MW3.
 
So when I traded in my crysis 2s, I didn't get my 10% unlocked bonus. Realized it while grocery shopping and went back for my $8. The girl working the game counter had to call in a manager, but she had the most epic quote, "I hate whenever we change anything with game trade ins! The new promos never work!" and I lol'd because this is so true. Also, I'm definitely a super secret flipper, I'm just too cool for the dumb club.

Its good if you're looking to make a small flip profit (and its pretty small) - TRU JD3 360 - $34.99...trade for $46 (60% Unlocked) or $43 (50% no unlocked).

There were some games you could flip from the TRU B1G1 sale but I think it ended and half that stuff was already OOS anyway.

It's a hit or miss. Some BB have issues, but I've found one BB I frequently go to are always on top of those things.
 
Also I just wanted to say I marked out when I saw some guy buy the Dark Souls CE edition at my Best Buy tonight. Not only did they fill their pre orders, but they had leftover CEs. Sadly he got the last ps3 one and their weren't any 360 copies left either.

I went to a GameStop I knew that had some Dark Souls CE, but I was too late. Someone bought the 2 PS3 and 1 Xbox they had earlier that day. I might call some of the ones in the boonies to see if they have some left. I wouldn't mind driving 30 min if they have at least 2.

the 4/$20 was only good for 4 days, it stopped working at most stores late afternoon of the last day....

although some stores left up the marketing signage and some reported such stores honoring it after Wed.

Sir. There's something wrong here. I followed your instructions and I did not receive an invite to this super secret yummy flip group. I was briefly relieved to find there was text there. But under closer examination it was just an invite to a Halo group. Please help resolve this issue as soon as reasonably possible.

a few random notes:

at my BB there are these new BB GCs. They are GCs bundled with a free USB xmas light thing. You plug it into your USB port and the string of about 20 color-changing LEDs lights up. not bad for a free trinket and you know we go thru tons of GCs

FYE is having a 20% trade in bonus

all the visa cards disappeared from one of my local BBs. kinda weird and I hope its not a trend.

It was getting very random with e-mails in the past like those who picked up the game never got the e-mail and those who never picked up the preorder received the code before the game was released.

A new system is being used though with the release of Forza. Basically you do your normal exchange at CS, a special UPC for said game is scanned/activated then the game is scanned. Once the receipt prints out the code is right on the receipt and supposed to be e-mailed to you as well.

Basically it's to prevent them tossing out all the codes to all the preorders so they actually have enough codes for those who pick it up. Only foreseeable problem is if the Gaming dept doesn't relay the message to CS then you may not get your code at all. Gaming dept is supposed to be doing the preorder/exchange stuff in their dept some time in the near future.

Sometimes I just put one word and then chose from the list of games showed up. For example, I can't find Halo Reach in the value estimator. But I can find it when only typing "reach".

I was told the same thing tonight when I did the 50% preorder deal. This was the gaming sup who said she had played the DLC levels at a conference recently and was really impressed by them. She said the DLC should come on a receipt at time of pickup.

I had no intention of getting Batman this soon as I have yet to play the first one. But the 50% deal in combination with this being one of the 5 for the $100 deal just made me do it. Now I'm committed to getting 3 more games there that I probably would have waited on or that I will have to cancel Amazon preorders for. I guess now I'll have to get Uncharted 3 and maybe Revelations... Then I could cancel either Skyward Sword or Skyrim at Amazon. I guess it will all depend on what preorder deals they have for those (eg, 50%, and, more importantly, if I can find games worth trading in for them). I had to use a couple of Fred Meyer B1G1 3DS games for today's trades - wasn't really up to par with previous trades I did but I did OK I guess.

Well, I assume you are trying different ways to look as it often throws it off if you include too many of the actual words from a given title ;). Usually you have to dumb it down to allow it to find something. But then you probably already know that.

Best Buy is one up on Amazon though: they have Star Fox 3DS listed (for $16) while Amazon does not.

Well, I assume you are trying different ways to look as it often throws it off if you include too many of the actual words from a given title ;). Usually you have to dumb it down to allow it to find something. But then you probably already know that.

I just wanted to thank the OP for this thread. I didn't know BB did trade ins till this thread now they are getting all my trade ins since they beat Amazon 9 times out of 10 on trade in price. Pre ordered Batman AC today. Anyway thanks, anyone heard of any trade in promos for uncharted 3 yet?

Punctuation screws the estimator up. Halo Reach is listed as Halo: Reach, and you have to include the : if you're searching the whole title. Also, the estimator apparently doesn't know what to do with apostrophes. Searching for "Cabela's" won't find anything, while searching for "Cabela" will.

Depending on the store the non-clearance games are typically over-priced. Each store can set their own prices though, and if you have an employee or two that actually knows a thing or two about games some of the prices will be solid. The store near me is usually like this, but the store I stopped by today which used to be my store when I still lived in Milwaukee had games that retail new for $10 listed at $19.99 cause clearly the people pricing them have no idea at all what they are doing. Clearance can be a gold mine though.

It's horrible. From what I can tell it isn't a trade-in program like Walmart, BB, Gamestop, Amazon, etc. where they intend to resell the games for a profit. It looks like more of a recycling deal, where they properly dispose of electronics. TIV's are pathetically low. Without a major change that program will bomb within the year.

As some others have pointed out there were some huge issues with Amazon GC's lately, with entire batches being invalid. They likely just recalled them all and some stores just haven't gotten the replacements yet.

As some others have mentioned you often have to dumby down your search. Things like "Halo" or "reach" instead of "Halo Reach" because the latter will never show up. The other odd thing is that it won't just display all search results, you have to look towards the top of the game's listed and check to see if there are any letters listed; these are links for games found that start with the corresponding letters. I.e. type in "Star Wars" and you'll likely end up on "L" first, for Lego Star Wars, with Star Wars The Force Unleashed being under "S". When did those ever leave? I've always seen those bins full of the same 5 wii and DS games whenever I go.
 
Target was nice to flip Dungeon Siege 3 and a Marvel Vs Capcom I had for a nice 60 but since then they have been pretty lame.

Yeah maybe it's kind of like Amazon where it takes new releases a few days to be added. Still odd Forza is in there but Just Dance 3 came out on Friday so that's more understandable.
 
i have a copy of everybody dance for ps3. it isn't to be released til next tuesday, i was gonna bring it by just to mess with them, but that is a dumb idea ;)

Does anyone know if you can use the BB 10% off "cell phone" code more than once? I used it when I bought Rage, can I use it again since its valid until 10/16?
 
Dammit i just bought two Forza LCE without using the 10%. I don't recall getting one that is valid until the 16th. Is there a code i can text to get this sent to me?

I'm not sure if you can use it more than once cheapfrag. I would like to know as well.

My bestbuys have always had it too. They acually have some good games in it but they need to be droped to 9.99 or less imo

Yep he just grabbed a gift card from underneath after doing it on the computer in the mobile phones section. Loaded the GC and handed to me.

In short no.

Once in a while there is a game that they don't update after a price drop (think BBY and FNV TiV) where you can take advantage of it for a few days. But besides that they suck.
