In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
Anyone with a sears nearby, you might want to check some of the DS clearanced games...picked up a few that we're $1.97 and traded in for $5-6 plus the unlocked and 50% bonus, not much of a flip but quick and easy way to make a few extra bucks/credit...skate it, monster jam: urban assault, and bratz party rock were a few titles I found
I have to get off my ass at some point today and I should be passing 2 sears on the way, might have to swing by and take a look (although neither of them ever seem to drop their game prices this low). Thanks for the tip either way.

Glad to see that a moderator is monitoring this thread and can keep things on track.

On a related note, I still have not received my @gamer Mag for this month, so I talked to a manager and was able to use the coupons from a store copy. And I earned enough RZW points that I just got an email for a $5 RZW card, which I have not spent real money (only giftcards) in store for the last few months.

give this number a call(800-678-3643), its the customer service number for @GAMER magazine. They looked up my info and sent me out a magazine.

Hi, when it says a promotion ends on a certain date, like 10/15, does that mean you can take advantage of the promotion on that date or does it have to be before? Thanks.

Ah, thanks. Didn't know if I'd have time to go to a Best Buy tomorrow.

I have not gotten my mag either. And I also got a $5 RZ cert issued yesterday and yet my points total has not changed at all on RZ. I've been stuck on 226 for a long time. More recently I've made a few game purchases with credit cards (and used the Visa gift cards to buy other things - sort of an exchange there) but those points are still pending. So I have no idea why I got the "free" $5 cert, but it sounds like we got the same thing there. Are you really earning points or did you just get a random cert like I did?

Edit - Never mind, they did deduct the 250 points. It is just more bad IT coding at Best Buy - last night when it showed the cert issued it still showed my old balance. Now I only have 10 points. You know what it was that put me over, interestingly enough? My $14.99 Games Club Unlocked payment. That just hit 30 days so that $14.99 posted. I had paid that with a credit card since I needed to get it first before doing a trade and I hadn't brought any previous gift cards with me. So, yeah, still haven't gotten a magazine and it has been a month.

When I preordered Batman the other day I used a credit card too. The gaming supervisor was doing my trades and she didn't understand why I did that. I told her about the gift card credit not getting RZ points and she had never heard of such a thing. She said I should call RZ to get that straightened out (like it was juat a problem for me ).
io - i think they're sending out free holiday spending certs.
Yeah, but it turned out mine wasn't free - they did deduct 250 points. Now, if I get a second one here that would be great. I guess it wouldn't surprise me with how screwed up their systems are.

Thanks to this thread I traded in some old stuff and got $90 in credit after the 50% bonus for pre-ordering BF3. I did lose a few dollars waiting a couple days but oh well, it's $90 more than I had when I started. I'm actually finishing up games I'll never play again now so I can trade them in.

Thanks, been meaning to look that up since I haven't gotten mine yet either.

Success! Received my Crysis 2 and Red Faction Armageddon from Gamefly today and promptly traded them into Best Buy. Values are still good today. $17 for Armageddon & $16 for Crysis 2. Got the +50% preorder deal and the +10% unlocked gamer bonus netting about $46 for the two.
Free Rental: Lego Pirates is on gamefly for $15 and trades in for $15. (or maybe it's $16).
I'm sure that free rental is awesome for the wii version :).
$13 -> $16 (base) -> $25.6 (current promos)
oh i didn't even look at the wii version. I just ordered the 360 for myself knowing I could trade it in for at least what I paid if not more.

Wow got a cool 300$ today after trading in recent gamefly flips and Two Worlds and Mx vs ATV Alive's. Discovered that the 10% off text only coupon doesn't stack with the Forza 4 DLC WTF. How fucking stupid. But my BB is cool, the guy just printed the DLC on a separate transaction.

Do NOT do this if you don't have a store around you.

I ordered about 9 Games from them on October 4th, and ive received 7 of them.
The individual stores seem to ship them out in pairs of two's. The actual date you receive the item is varies as they give no tracking information just, "Wait for 15 days before contacting them to request they send more out"

The games also have these annoying stickers on them that WILL leave residue on the disk.

Just making sure you guys know what you're getting into if you buy online.

Well, with the GameStop.com Wii B2G1 Free sale, you can buy some cheap Wii games for around $26 after PRO card and they would trade in for $49. You would have to wait for shipping and hope Best Buy keep the 50% bonus for Pre-ordering (plus 10% unlock). Not worth it for me but maybe others want to transfer credit from GS to BB.

GameStop free shipping is pretty slow but you might get the games in time for the next preorder promo to kick in.

Dumb question, why would there be a pre-order bonus until 11/20? The game releases 11/8.

A strategy to avoid the price drops is to buy the games instore and online, and then return the online games instore once they arrive.

Nope, I meant $49 after bonus.

I know this question has probably already been asked, but if I trade in games and combine it with the 50% extra toward MW3, can I cancel the preorder at any time and still keep the 50% bonus? Thanks in advance...

It expires on 11/12 or whenever best buy decides to end it.

Ive traded in not for resale games disc only, but has anyone ever traded in a game with with not for resale printed directly on the disc? Guitar hero van halen gets $5 before bonuses, not too bad. Would love to get rid of it if I can.

Coughin up $30 for $50 credit may not be worth it for some people. I think that's what he means, seeing how he talks about if someone has GS credit. For me personally to pay cash, I'd prefer the pay out to be higher considering that I have so much credits in other places.
Huh. Then if you don't mind my asking, why did you say it wouldn't be worth it for you? The potentially long wait for shipping? :???:
Basically, it's the wait for the shipping and the potential that the TIVs fall in the meantime. I just prefer to do my flipping in store, then I know I can get it done before the TIV drops. And I have a feeling that there will be a B2G1 Free in store at GS soon.

I'm going to try and run by and trade in a few games for Battlefield. I didn't even realize the promotion started for that yet...

Great Friday for me. First after getting 20+ wallpapers from the GS MW3 contest i finally got 160 points. Then I go to GS to pick up MX and as soon as you enter BAM! 50% trade in (nice):D. Trade in my games and ask for MX and he gives me 2 copies. Leave the store and go to BB. Trade in the games takes about 10 minutes would of been less time but dumbass me forgot to take off the GS stickers and put the discs in the right spots rather than leave them in the yellow GS holder:dunce:. Go and preorder MW3 and while I wait in line to pay to my right I see 1 $25 amazon kindle card. I wasn't planning on getting one but said fuck it why not. So thats my day so far, how's your's?:D

Anyone know if there is anything you can do if you lost your trade in gift card? I can't find mine with $20 on it, it has been over a week and I think I am SOL.

This happened to me recently with a gift card. I called Best Buy and they were able to issue me a new gift card. Before you scammers run wild with ideas, they drain all credit from the lost gift card first.

BTW, I had a receipt with a purchase made using my lost gift card, so Best Buy was able to look up the gift card number with that information.

Thanks for the info guys, will call them after I deal with a Staples issue (my $40 in ink recycling rewards is missing now!).

Added this to the FAQ. It is actually included in the written policy...

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store.
Does the tiv go up more if its sealed ? If not than its pointless
NO the TIV doesn't go up. It's not pointless if you picked up your games NEW from TRU, GS, etc and the TIV drops by the time you get to BB. Since they're still sealed you have the option to return them.

That's exactly why I always have them confirm the TIV right before I trade-in my higher value new games.
