How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

Yes. BBY has an all or nothing policy. No refurb fees or hidden costs. If they accept your game then you get the full value, if they reject it... well you get nothing obviously.

The Disc only trading in is still live as I know it. There have been various postings about seeing online that it no longer says disc only being accepted where it used to. My store still has signs up all over saying "No case, no problem. We now accept disc only trade-ins". So has never been a problem for me.
 
Amazon is offering $18 for :ps3: Lords of Shadow as the trade of the day; Best Buy is at $13 but even with the 40% boost for any pre-order (not getting Skyrim myself), it's basically a wash. Oh well, off to the mail you go, Gabriel!

We've recently had B2G1 from amazon, target, and toysrus during the traditionally busiest release months of the year. Pretty sure TRU and AMZ has been doing this for a few years consecutively. BBY is fail though so it wouldn't surprise me nor bother me if it never comes :)

Ok, more news on this front. On another thread, user "themightypencil" posted he just got confirmation from the Best Buy forum mods on the upcoming B2G1 deal. They also said this promo won't conflict with the 5/100 promo or with the 10% off coupon so apparently, good news. I'd still love to see an ad scan or a mention on their website thou.

I didn't see themightypencil's post but i think GAYmer is trolling. Does anyone have a link to the BBY forums that confirms it? I don't think it's true.

Well I've got a butt-load of older (mostly shitty) games I've been thinking of trading in and since it seems BestBuy hardly gives anything less than $5 for a game, I've got $80 worth of trade-in
So if I've read and understood the OP correctly I cannot get the pre-order bonus of 50% & the 3 Games or More bonus of 30%? So only $120 in credit, instead of $160ish

And if BestBuy is going to be doing this Buy2Get1 promo next week I should be able to trade-in today, pre-order Skyrim to lock in my extra savings, and then just use all my credit to pick that up when it comes out along with two other games?

The last 2 I can believe will definitely work. The B2G1 sale seems too good to be true. I hope I'm proved wrong, but I won't get my hopes up.

Maybe the BB strategy is to get people coming in to buy Call of Duty to spend more money buying 2 additional games that they weren't planning to buy.

I don't know about you guys, but once I get started on a new Call of Duty game, I'm not buying any other $60 new releases until I've at least prestiged a couple times. A B2G1 would get me to spend money I wouldn't otherwise spend.

On the other hand BB would lose some money on those people who were already going to buy 3 games. Maybe not a lot, but some.

You could go to the estimator page bestbuytradein.com and left side locate videogames, to get TIV for your games (TIV valid that day subject to change whenever BB feels like it). You will have a good estimate of what your games are worth. If you do the Skyrim 50% bonus deal, then take your total from the estimator and multiply by 1.5, and then you have exactly what to expect on a giftcard after the trades are accepted. Then pay the $5 reserve fee with your new giftcard.

If the B2G1 free happens, you should not have a problem when you go to purchase your preorder and buy 2 other games, it should ring up as cheapest one free. Pay with your giftcard, or cash or credit card.

I've already looked through best buys ad for next week and it says nothing about buy 2 get 1 free,so unless its online only its not going to happen.

Ended up picking up 3 PS3 copies of GTA IV complete with the B2G1 at Target (had a $10 gift card and some left over money on a visa gift card from BB so it was only about $13 out of my own pocket) and did a trade in tonight. Including a few games I picked up as a result of that two pre-owned games with a $10 giftcard loophole earlier this week.

also got 3 gta 4's to trade in along with one for myself and thor and lego star wars 3 for my little bro.

As I write this, I am calling CS to see how a return to do a buy two get one will affect my buy 5 for 100. I will still have my games they will just be rerung at a lower price. My Buy 5 counter is already scewed up so I might as well risk mine some more to bring everyone this information. I will report as soon as I have info.

Kinda hoping the B2G1 is legit. I've got Mw3 paid, and I'm about to move my GS credit to BB credit. Would love to snag a third game. Has anyone who's preordered Skyrim in the past few days been told that they would receive the premium map?

actually dude, my store in tallahassee, fl just started being able to accept systems. They have to go through a completely different process than when trading in games but they can now as there was someone trading an xbox in when I was there the other day. They are one of the stores with the most trade-ins in the nation, most in region for trades and preorders, so they become testers for a lot of stuff apparently. I would say it's gonna be march or april before most stores start getting this ability though. it's definately super ymmv but I only post this to say that the ability is coming.

still trying to get that info about the b2g1 and the 5 for $100 deal. my cell service sucks in my apartment and I keep getting diconnected.
 
Was told that my store in the Columbus area would be able to take consoles/hardware other than DS starting around 11/6.

the map comes inside the sealed game case so for sure you will receive it. unfortunately its not a cloth map, but rather a paper map with burlap texture. same map for both vanilla and ce versions.
 
I preordered skyrim on BB.com, guess Ill bring that slip in to trade in tiger woods 11. Has TIV of 8 +60% is like 13 bucks, just bought Tiger 12 for 16 shipped

Last time Tiger got such a great value for 3 bucks it was in the backseat of his car
 
Traded in Batman AC along with some other games and Zhu Zhu Pets for Wii that I picked up for 9.98 at Toys R Us with a $10 gift card I had. The BBY rep told me my trade in total before promos was $120 which I knew was right, but after I signed and got the print out I noticed that Zhu Zhu pets wasn't on there and Tom Clancy Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was in its place for half the TIV. After I pointed it out, the rep brought the manager over who had no idea, and said they couldn't do anything. The rep called someone at Best Buy corporate? who said eventually said they weren't sure how it happened and will pass it on to 'Level 2' and get back to him. I waited patiently, and the rep took down my phone number to call me once he heard back from 'Level 2'. Never heard back from him tonight, but figured I should warn anyone from trading in Zhu Zhu Pets for Wii ;)
 
So is it possible Best Buy has a B2G1 soon?? Say, next week?! I basically have Skyrim paid off, and with the RZ 10% off coupon on that and MW3, I would love to snag a freebie game..say, Dark Souls! or Uncharted 3 as a christmas gift for bro!
 
have you guys ever had trouble with your purchases not posting on your account. i bought some tritton 720s last week but lost the receipt. now im trying to get a price match because they're on sale for 30 bucks less. but for some reason the purchase isn't showing up on my reward zone account, while my more recent ones are.

If you bought it at BB and paid by credit card they may be able to look it up with that.

I would suggest calling the help desk for RZ and see if there are any transactions that are needing to be forced through manually. This happened with my child of eden purchases a while back.
 
Thanks guys for the responses. Probably give them a call tomorrow. Yeah looking up by card would have worked, but paid with best buy credit haha.
 
anyone have any experience getting a bonus with just a receipt?

what i mean is i did the call of duty MW3 pre order bonus on monday and want to get more games to take advantage of that great deal, do i just need to take my receipt to get the extra 50%?, i didn't cancel my pre order yet, its still good.

Its ymmv on that.
My store requires me to preorder a new game everytime I want trade in bonuses.
Some people have reported being able to use receipts from previous preorders over and over.

Captain save-a-CAG to the rescue haha. Uhh it depends on your store some will let you get the bonus if you show them your receipt, some will make you do another pre-order.

Also, you can just ask them to do the bonus without pre-ordering since they can just apply it. I always get the extra bonus without pre-ordering at my store. It's awesome and it doesn't hurt to ask.

I traded Batman AC (360) that I got from Amazon, and the UPC scan didn't come up in the trade system. If someone else is planning to trade that or Zhu Zhu Pets (Wii), I'd recommend going disc-only.

It's always a good idea to watch the screen as they scan each game to confirm that it's the right game and the right TIV.
 
I was able to trade in Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Zumba Fitness (similar games, right?) for $40 towards Skyrim. So, after I traded it in and he gave me the gift card, I still had to go to a register and have them scan in the receipt for the pre-order... what's to stop me from just walking out with the gift card? Like let's say I just want the bonus, can I just say I'll pre-order MW3, do the trade in, then walk out with the gift card and throw away the pre-order receipt? A little unethical, and I probably won't even do it, but just wondered...
 
one thing i could nitpick about my trade in experience so far at best buy is; they never seem to tell me my trade in values for games as they do the trade in. usually at the end, they'll tell me what i received in total but usually not the TIV game by game. i guess its a good thing they have the trade in estimator, so at least i know my totals i should get pre-bonus and post-bonus. so if the numbers dont match, then i'll say something.

anyone else have similar experiences?
