There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.
I traded a bunch of Target clearance today, no big profits, back to 1$-3$ profit per title, but while I was trading the guy was telling me about his best trader who had just come in with 2 MW3's and 2 Skyrim's, which he claimed he had paid 10$ each for. Apparently they we're from Redbox as they all had a small ring stickers on them. This was the westminister mall BBY. So my hypothesis is, moron is removing sticker from new game and placing it on any old crap and returning the game. Most likely using credit cards with no value on them to secure rental ?? I wonder if I call redbox and report my hypothesis identifying the BBY will net me a reward. Redbox rentals for life would be nice... I hate thieves.
Most likely with stolen credit cards/cloned cards.

Do folks think it's likely that a 50% bonus trade in with preorder will come back any time soon?
I'm sitting on Gears of War 3, Dungeon Siege 3 (PS3), Captain America (xbox 360), and Dead Island (PS3). I may trade it in for the 40% bonus, or wait for a 50% bonus. My only concern is that the TIV may drop, and I'd get more for them now with a lower %, but higher base value.
Any thoughts?

my crystal ball predicts that gears of war 3 TIV will drop

Pretty modest drop considering they had it on sale for $35 yesterday.
three copies @ 25 with 40% and 10% Unlocked nets $112

three copies @ 20 with 40% and 10% unlocked nets $90
And 30 copies @ $25 with 40% and 10% Unlocked nets $1,125.

With 30 copies @ $20 with 40% and 10% Unlocked nets only $900!

We get that it is lower, and of course the disparity between old TIV and new grows with the more copies you trade, but the price of the game has also dropped. Consider that the TIV was $25 when the game was $60, the game was recently available for $35 (difference of $25) and the TIV only dropped $5 from $25 to $20.

Again, hardly a nuke. Crysis 2, for example, went from $10 to $2 overnight. That's an 80% drop vs. the 20% drop on Gears 3 (which experienced a roughly 41% price drop).

Relax dude.
Force Unleased 2 is down to $2.00.
Finally. They have to have 10s Of thousands of that game by now. All to keep FO NV company.

If they were smart they should bundle those 2 used games together for Christmas. Thinking a pricetag of $10-$15 would be right.

If not they are just going to eat the cost of all those games. At best they can hope for is that if they bundle them and sell them cheap enough it will bring in the customers and they purchase something else with it.

Or even offer them their choice of FO:NV or SWFU2 with subscription to RZGC unlocked

Traded a few games in today and apparently their system still had "Pre-order Saints Row/Assassin Revelation for extra 40%" I said sure, knowing that they are already released. She paged someone to get the SKU and then they told her the games are already released. She then asked me if I wanted to buy the game, and I said no thanks. So basically, I got the boost without having to shell out $5. Haha

It verys every time so there's no way to tell. As with everything at best buy, it makes no logical sense and is a Total crapshoot. Sometimes a game's trade in value will be posted before its even released, other times it'll take a couple weeks or even a month for the value to be posted.

We should probably put in the OP that there's no ryhme or reason to when a games trade in value will be posted.

Is there something preventing you from trading in more than 3 copies of a game per day? Or is it simply up to the employee to stop it? I'm asking cause I did a trade in today (3 of the same on one title) and he told me that I had reached my limit and that the computer would prevent me from trading in any more of that game from now on. Is this bs? Just curious really, I'm out of games to trade...

I should ask my bestbuy manager about that. If its 3 per day at mine i would have abused that poor once upon a monster game today lol

Careful about PM'ing too many games. Each PM is tracked, and if a store is doing too many they'll be getting a call from the DM and you might be denied on future PMs.

For the DotD stuff... they aren't that price in-store, so each copy would require an override.

With the B2G1 coupon it was like $40 profit/3 copies, but I decided against it. Way too much hassle for me and the employees.
Oh yea, I know that...I was just wondering if there was actually something that popped up on the computer preventing it or if that employee was just talking crap.
Nothing in the system stops you. I've traded in 4 copies of a game in two separate trades in the same day before.

Not true as the sonic generations dotd was 39.99 without an overide. Oh and thanks for telling me about the pm thing, i didnt know those were tracked

Yeah... Not sure why none of this week's DotD's have been working though. I only know about the PM tracking because of all the Rise of Nightmares I PM'ed to TRU >.<

Nothing wrong with the actual PMing because conditions were within their policy, but it was the number of times (copies) I PM'ed it... And after that the store gets put under watch for this kinda stuff.

There are a few flips from the Blockbuster sale that were worth it for me. I took advantage of the 5 for $30 deal. I picked up:
Cars 2 DS-11
Harry Potter and the deathly hallows part 2-11
WWE Smackdown 2011-9
LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars-8

There were also quite a few that trade for $6 if you need a filler for the deal.

They aren't huge flips, but I used credit.

Usually my local stores LOVE to deny PM's, but the managers know me as someone who's bought into the Gamer's Club Unlocked, does a lot of trades and as such has a lot of credit they've spent in store recently. So lately I've been getting everything PM'd without a hassle.

How can they deny PMs? Isn't it part of their Price Match Guarantee?!?

What I really love about Best Buy, is that the last time I asked for a PM, I actually saw the list of competitors that the CSR has to choose from ... and I swear it's a huge list and lists a few online retailers, definitely Amazon for one. So I love the whole "oh, we never PM online retailers" BS line that most Best Buy employees give.

I'm the same way, but again it's not the employees at my store who care, it's the DM.

I've still PM'ed my Batman: ACs down 3 times for each of the 4 copies I bought and stuff like that but... For stuff like Sesame Street I'd use caution (not for my sake, but the employees' who keep hooking me up).

I still PM if it's just one copy for myself, but buying 12 copies of Sesame Street each of which needs a $24.99 override... that's pretty idiotic.

Do you guys know if I can PM Batman down to $45 if I bought the game with the batarang controller when it came out? They took $20 off when I bought it, so my receipt says I paid $49.99 for Batman and $39.99 for the controller.

Where are you PMing it for $45?
I like how the current promos in the op are in white font so I can't read them on the cag mobile site.

Sent from my apparently useless iPhone.
There have a been a couple of complaints about this, I never use CAG's mobile site so I haven't seen it myself but I'll try and see if there is something I can do to keep it nice and readable on the main site and easier to read on mobile.
I was not asking when it would be posted. I asked how long it takes normally for them to be added. reading comprehension not your strong point.
Obviously it isn't your strong point either. The topic is covered in the OP. Go practice those comprehension skills.

We should probably put in the OP that there's no ryhme or reason to when a games trade in value will be posted.
From the OP:

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

Corporate doesn't.
This. Despite what your store may say, the corporate people watching have already banned a couple of (extremely excessive) traders for going over the limit. Not to go all "big brother" but that is how it typically starts, they crack down on the big offenders and see if the information spreads and abuses of the system go down. If it doesn't, they keep going down the list. Eventually people get the picture.

Traded in Battlefield 3 and only got $23 base rather than the $25 that shows online (even as of right now.) Possibly bestbuy updating their prices w/o updating the online TIV database.

someone told me you have to click on the game and not just go by what's in the search results. It's the same 99% of the time but I've gotten burned by this too.

If you click, it'll show $23.
