BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
I realize the TIV's change daily, but anyone know when the current "2 For $60" campaign is ending? I am trying to get through Bulletstorm and NFS: Hot Pursuit single player campaigns (got em used from BB for $17.50 each after 50% off "Gamer" mag coupon). I setup the trades online just in case they fall off the list, but would certainly prefer to trade them in in-store.

Thanks.
It doesnt really end. just changes the games that will be given said value
Package received June 10th. No response yet.
Yeah, considering 6/10 is a Friday...
You need to give them a few work days. Dealtree is closed on weekends.

give them a week to receive it from when you sent it, then give them like a week to verify, and then a week to process, then a few days to get the card to ya.
real quicklike ;)

I'd be ecstatic if they messed up the gift cards again. I'm only due a $7 card since I traded just one game. I like to think my chances are at least decent to get something above $7 if there is a mistake. :D

woo they finally verified my game that was accidentally dropped off at USPS. anyone know how long it usually take to receive in mail? or better yet, how long does it take for you guys to get yours?

From whenever you send it off, give yourself a month for you to actually get the gift card.

Hmm, really torn on whether I should trade in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 ... I have the SE ... since the disc is the same as the standard version, I could just take the disc by itself into the store in a generic PS3 case and keep the other stuff right?

You could take it in disc only and be fine Broseph.

so you don't need a upc then right? I got the fable 3 CE and sold off all the extras, but the case doesn't have a upc on it. so i should be alright correct?

$30 for MvC3... Not bad I suppose. Amazon was offering $38.75 a few weeks ago though. I'm glad I jumped on that. I still have a sealed copy for myself which I think I'll just keep it.

Out of curiosity, was my store wrong or right? They told me I could only trade in 3 games for any system at once. They said it didn't matter if they were different games, just any three games at once. I was told they can just do separate transactions to "override it" so it doesn't matter much. I had a two PSP games and four XBox games so they did one GC with the PSP games and a XBox game and then another with three XBox games.

they're wrong.

When I traded in my games, the person asked for my name, email address, and phone number...will the gift card I received be associated with my info? because I want to sell my gift card
Can anyone help?

Off Topic but a really important question. My mom justed flipped the fuck out and grabbed my MK copy and SNAPPED in half. Luckily somehow thanks to cashier I got a warrant on it the day I bought it. That BB was located somewhere kinda far from me. My question is can I get a new copy at my local BB or do I have to go all the way back to that one in order to get my new copy?
It's a regular gift card not attached to anything/anyone
so I can sell it right? thanks
and do they expire?

Yeah, you can sell gift cards.

They (should) expire, but I think it takes like a year or two.

Man i got one of those latina moms. You can't reason with them. What I did is kinda wrong but I can make up for it, but she doesn't care. But seriously can I get an answer so I can play my MK and finish the tower.

Wish it was that easy, but they will go to a sorting factory and sent either to another store or kept at the warehouse for online.

Yes, you can get a new copy of the game. You just have to request a sleeve to ship it to them and they will send you a new copy.

Was trying to transfer some GS over to BB so I could buy some Amazon GC's and ended up making about $4 on Crysis 2! To top it off I grabbed the last Dead Space 2 for PS3 at Sears for $20 and took it with me over to BB and traded that in for $30 too (was hitting up both stores anyway)! Not bad, made $14 today doing nothing.

I notice a lot of these games listed on the BB website have duplicate UPC's. Even though they don't require cases, you guys might as well be sure to double check you have the right UPC locked in for the BB online trade-in. DealTree was UPC specific at times before.

I don't even bother sending in the cover art anymore. Does that mean you can send in more than 3 per title if you use different UPCs? Anybody have experience doing this.

I try to include everything just cause some of these used BB deals end up going to Amazon. If we keep feeding the supply of used games without cases/manual, we'll be shorting the supply of used games down the line. I'd be super disappointed if I found a disc of LBP2 at BB with it only coming with a generic cover case ala Gamestop.

I think we're all better off trading in cover art/cases alongside the disc even though it's not required.
I second that donut
thanks. the whole BB trade-in is somewhat kind of new for most us what with all these promos coming up. so i just caution EVERYONE that we should think it through and consider trading in complete copies because i doubt BB will just purchase or acquire new case covers/artbooks/manuals to include in our incomplete game trade-ins. you can believe we'll end up getting the ones we trade back in at some point to trade back in again. we'll only limit our options for trade-ins down the line by trading in incomplete copies now.

Good foresight Donut, and very true. I have traded almost all of my stuff into BB totally mint and complete, save for a few games that were missing manuals (it's not like I decided to keep them, just didn't have 'em!).

We're gonna need to most likely re-buy these games to flip somewhere else for some other deal in the future, and if it's someplace like Amazon, we're gonna need those complete copies!

Does any Best Buy take trade-ins or do I have to go find one that does? (Since not every best buy carries used games?)

Also, does the whole 'buy kindle gift cards using trade-in credit' thing still work with best buy?

I plan to trade in games that I know for sure would be rejected from Amazon to Best Buy. I get rejected for games that have a tiny mark on the artwork.

Check the op for your first question as for the second, you receive a best buy gift card for your trades which be used on anything in the store, it is not a special type of credit, just a normal gift card

Seriously??? I would assume BB would have a clause against intentional damage, which obviously is the case if the disc is snapped in half.

GoHastings is having a buy 2, get 1 for $1 sale right now which is primed for selling back to bestbuy for flips. Hopefully you get the games in complete to make the trade... although I have not yet had a problem with games received incomplete *crosses fingers*.

$10 RDR and $10 GT5 after trade-ins sound nice!

i thought bestbuy started accepting discs only (i know in stores for sure)

im on the best buy trade in page right now and all it asks is if the game is playable-

edit-i know in the op its advised to send everything to assure the full tiv--
but i just found it weird that all it asks is if the game is playable ..nothing about a case or manual so how would they deny you the full trade in.

That would be even sweeter. :D

It's not like Best Buy has to know she grabbed the disc and snapped it in half. If you bought the warranty, you tell them you stepped on it and it broke. They'll give you a new one. Good stuff if you tend to go crazy on your controllers.

So wait your saying go in there with the broken disc and tell them that it "accidently" got stepped on or something, show them the warranty and they'll give me a new copy?

You have to contact the company in which the warranty is for. They send you a sleeve to send out your game, and they send you another used copy of the game once they receive it. (disc only)

And for anyone wondering, Best Buy should have started taking trade ins as disc only as of last month
