BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
How exactly does a manager do this? Is it the same as a Pricematch, where they issue you a gift card but manually adjust the price on it down to like 1 cent or something?
No it wasn't anything like that. The CSR first tried several registers to process the GC without success. He then spoke to the manager who told him to issue a GC for me. I don't recall the manager actually doing anything at the register. The CSR spent about 5 minutes processing the GC for me at the geek squad counter and then gave it to me along with the paper to sign.
Just got back from BB and the trade-in is not working. They went through till the last step. Might check it tomorrow.
thanks. saved me a trip. Locked everything in online just to be sure.

Yeah as much as I wanna rage out on Best Buy for this, ill just have to send them in and wait for the gift card. Ive made enough Amazon credit off them anyway, I guess I can look past this.

Try calling up your local BB and see if they'll honor today's TIV when the system is up again.
The floor manager was really pushing that I do not give it to GS or amazon.

Hell, he even offered to take $5 off any used game for the inconvenience.

I figure even if the manager agrees to it, it'll be too much of a hassle and instantly regretted when the employee the next day gives me a blank stare as I tell him about the manager's guarantee. Then of course the manager will be on his lunch break.

I don't mind sending it in. Takes 3 weeks to get a GC but I'm in no hurry.

wow so bestbuy trade in system is still dead from evening of last night until this afternoon. imagine if this was their actual register system and losing all those sales. i bet if it was their actual registers malfunctioning, corporate would get off their ass and look into it right away.

3 Weeks if your lucky.

I know everyone likes to bitch about them but I track every single trade i've made with them:

date received, date verified, date paid, date in my hand.

The outside is 3 weeks. I've gotten it in 2 before. As long as you don't expect it to be turned around in a week and can be patient, it's no big deal.

To be honest, the patience isn't what bothers me, it's the fact that people are reporting inaccurate GC amounts and even reports that dealtree hasn't marked their trade-in's as "received" even though it's been a month that the item was delivered for some people tracking the package on UPS

Dealtree shorted me on a GC recently. But they overnighted me the difference. I can't complain.

OK I have two things to say.

#1 - just got back from trading in Dead Space 2 at Best Buy, worked no problems. Got $30 which is cool because I only paid I think $23 for the game off Ebay. Now that's cheap!

#2- Previously I sent Homefront to Best Buy via the mail in Dealtree page. Won't ever be doing that again. I mailed it May 18 and it took almost three weeks to get there and was just approved TODAY. A full month. Now thankfully the email I just got said they are paying me the full $30 on that one too. But I still don't have the GC obviously, and that could be another week or so the email said. Really can't believe how slow the turnaround is on those considering I can take the games to a store and have a giftcard in minutes.

Okay so I decided to just go to BB at west Covina, CA to get this over with. I had TW2 and it took freaking an hour to get everything done because at the step where the worker puts the value to a gift card it automatically go backs to beginning. A couple of high end employees came and they were trying to figure this thing out and finally in the end it worked! Everything from personal info had to be reinserted from the start. Im just happy I now have 180 from all the flipping the past few days. Got myself $175 in amazon kindle gc!

hopefully we can get someone else to confirm the trade in is working, because I don't really want to drive another 25 minutes for nothing like last night

my store supposedly said its working today, but has no way of testing it.

Brink is $20 and Two Worlds 2 is $15 according to the estimator now so I hope yall who had got bestbuys with the system down dont get screwed after they told they would give you the original amount.

The email actually says they're gonna ship it to you within 7-14 days. not you'll get it within 7 days.
Called a CS rep and thats what she told me.
all they did was approve you getting a gift-card.

How does doing it online work exactly? Like if I choose to trade in games, I know I can do it online and I have 14 days to trade it in via the mail or in-store. So will I be locked into those prices for those 14 days (so if I trade it in a week from now I still get that price even if something drops?)

And what if I decide after a week I don't wanto trade it in, is there a penalty or anything? Or can I even cancel a trade in? Thanks guys.

Online you lock in a price for 14 days, so as long as it arrives in MN by the 14th day you will get that price. There's no penalty for creating a trade in, and yes you can cancel a trade in by contacting customer service.

Also, not sure if youre implying this, but no you cant lock in a price online and then fulfill the trade in instore, all online trade-ins have to be mailed in.

If I get an estimate and don't send it in, nothing really happens right? I didn't know we had to send it in if we got an estimate online. I just want to go in store to trade in my halo reach..

So how much did you get for TW2 today in store? I assume it's $15, but with the system acting so strange it might be something else.

Unless you got them to honor yesterday's values or something.

alright thanks! I thought I read somewhere on their site that you could take it to bestbuy physical store. Not sure why, but thanks! Helps a lot!

The FAQ says you get 50% of the locked TIV if you trade disc only online. If I only have the disc, and send it online will I only get 50% or was that just a mistake on BB's end?
I just got home from a similar, but better experience. The first cashier had the issue. Tried it twice, and then went to get the floor manager. The Floor Manager tried it on a different register ending up with the same issue. I offered the suggestion that I could come back tomorrow "but what if the values change?". They both told me they would not. I asked if the floor manager could write the values down for me. She did. I asked then if they would honor those TIV's even if the values changed, and she said to come in after 7:30pm tomorrow - she would be working and would take care of it.
Went back tonight and the floor manager fulfilled her promise. I got the current web values and the balance in a separate gift card that she had to create.

Thanks BB.
Also, could I trade under different UPCs, but the same game and send it disc only to bypass the limit or not?
I wouldn't take the chance. Technically, you'd be trading in the same game.

I got them to honor yesterday's values :)

Update: they were able to use my transaction number from yesterday. Required a manager to know how to do it since that other guy wasn't there this time, but they did look it up and gave me yesterday's trade-in. It is a shame they didn't give this option out to everybody while the system was down.
blah blah blah wrote down the transaction number blah blah wait until the system is back up to finish.

So I made a online trade in of 6 Brinks(3 360 vers and 3 PS3 vers) and 3 Two Worlds 2. If I can't obtain that many from GameStop tomorrow, can I cancel some of the games, but not all of them?

yes.

although you're just asking for your account to be flagged with that trade in order.

Just an fyi for everyone I just chekced the trade in values as of Sunday and they have soared down across the board.. literally a major drop in just about every game I can remember seeing. Reach was 30 now 21, crysis 2 was 30 now 23, fifa 11 was 20 now 15, etc

A lot of games have dropped in price from looking at the Trade-In estimator online, but on this page http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Video-G...00050010.c?id=pcmcat232900050010&DCMP=rdr3821 they have some new promo (instead of a 2 for $60 trade-in).

"30% More Trade-In

Trade in two or more select video games to get 30% more trade-in value for a Best Buy gift card.
In store only. Limited time only."

But there's no list yet but maybe they will have one later on or a list In-Store.
But there's no list yet but maybe they will have one later on or a list In-Store.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12, L.A. Noire, Mortal Kombat? Just kidding.

Think about this though, almost all the price drops I see are essentially to cover the 30%. So in your example, Crysis 2 will get a 6.90 bump which is essentially 30, the same as it was yesterday. Fiffa 11 will get a 4.50 bump, which is .50 short of yesterday. Reach doesn't work that way, but another one I found that I was going to trade in and went off and forgot it Friday was inFamous 2. It was $35, now $27, but with the 30% it would be $35.10, which is essentially the same.

So yeah, to me, it looks like they just dropped enough to cover the promo. Anyone know what Red Dead Redemption on PS3 was bringing pre-promo? It's showing $17 now.

As said though, I don't see a list so who knows what qualifies yet. Also, since when did they start taking DS handheld trade-ins in-store? The weekly ad mentions both promos, and the fine print lists the tiered value of each DS and says see customer specialist for details.

Edit: Just to cover my arse, if my math is wrong, then just ignore it/correct it in your head. I'm pretty sure it's right, but it's past 2am so I have that excuse.

I was bummed at first about the drops but if Dead Rising 2 and Bulletstorm are on the list I am trading those even though I have not played them. Dead rising was $22, now $20 but this deal makes it $26. Bulletstorm was $30, now $25 but would be $32.5 with this deal. I cannot pass up $58.50 in trade for games I can get cheaper down the road (thanks backlog for making this an easy decision).

It does say select games but it continues to bring up the estimator. Can one hope it is on ALL trades. If so my Fall gaming will be paid for:)

RDR was $20 so this deal makes it $22.10...a small increase.

From the GameStop buy 2 used sale I sold..
6 Two Worlds II $30 each
3 Fable III $30 each
SWTFU2 for $20
RDR for $20
TDU2 for $20

Traded in today at one of my local best buys:
Tiger Woods 12 $30
NFS: Hot Pursuit $30
Bulletstorm $30
Portal 2 $30
total of $120 :) WOOO promptly used that to help pay for my new Nikon DSLR camera. :)

Thanks, if it's on the list I might trade it if I need a second. Since there's still no list, I'm about to assume it's all games or maybe there's one in store. Maybe someone can clarify later today.
damn! WTF is BB doing?! everything is lowered down
