BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
On topic: I'm actually kinda annoyed that Best Buy is now doing like GS and allowing the trade-in of incomplete garbage. But I guess they gotta appeal to the lowest common denominator of the gaming population in order to survive n thrive like their big corporate brother GS has, eh?
This disappoints me too. I would totally buy used from Best Buy if everything they got was in the same quality as the games I traded in (and it would help if they lowered their used prices). But now that people are able to trade in incomplete games, I'll probably have to stay away.

yep. in trying to compete with GS, they're shooting themselves in the foot. I'd be more likely to buy used from BB if I knew all current gen games were complete.

Or it's possible that nobody else gives a crap so they don't give a crap.

The used game I bought tonight from them:)ps3:Two Worlds II) had a Gamefly/whatever rental ring sticker in the middle of it with a sticker over the top of that.:bomb: Being the nitpicky person I am I meticulously removed both stickers, even though it took me over an hour to sit there and pick at the barcode sticker under the one to cover it.

Now I just have to find a replacement PS3 game case for it in my menagerie of ones I have in the other room cuz the one they traded it in in has a wavy plastic cover.

Their used prices are so so, but since they're taking on the GS model for trade promos and the crappy trade values now, then maybe that means they'll start doing B2G1 sales and such sooner rather than later.
I've cost them MORE money by taking part in a couple of really good glitches since I was banned, including one where they sent me about 20 games for free
How you manage to get 20 games for free? is that your best loot? and what can you do with so many penny mag beside being cheaper to wipe your ass with?
How you manage to get 20 games for free? is that your best loot? and what can you do with so many penny mag beside being cheaper to wipe your ass with?
There's trading the guides on CAG, selling them on eBay or Amazon(mainly Amazon for me) or giving them to friends if they can use them.

And recently the 20 games for free was my best glitched deal, aside from this week's 2/$50 TRU game deal.;) I think the 20 games for free was a double code stacking glitch at Gamestop's website. Before that one was the double code stacking at EA's website(Recyclebank $15 off $20 code + PAXEAST code), where some of us got 10-12 games for $7 shipped.

The problem is also that (as I discovered last night) that often times the less you give the person doing the trade in, the faster the process goes. To the point that I think a disc in a ziploc bag would go the fastest, because they always want to look at the manuals if they are there and always want to mess with the UPC codes if their scanner doesn't work. So if you pulled the manuals out, they wouldn't look at them, and if they didn't have UPC codes, they would just pick one and move on. So now current gen games being flipped from other stores (that would otherwise be perfect) are going to start being totally parted out.

I love this one! I've traded almost 200 hundred of those things in and never see any there. I think they sell well. It's stupid Iatcg got banned for that when they make a profit on each one and they sell well on top of it.

The lame part about buying from them is that you can't see the disc before buying it cause it's sealed. I bought a blops ps3 with the coupon and the one i chose out of 8 or 9 copies had a red box circular sticker with the bar code thing on it (or another similar service). The disc was buffed cause the printing on the disc was all smeared and there was a lot of that buffing compoud residue on the disc and sticker. I will open them in the car before I go home next time. Luckily a razor and goo gone fixed it all up.

I traded in over 200 hdmi cables at the three gamestops here last fall and never had anything said to me, I traded in 2 at a time. Was making about 5 bucks off each cable myself. I'm always flipping games there, as well as at bestbuy now and they dont say shit to me. Sucks you had that happen to you.

The ban also likely had to do with me not exactly being discreet(5 cables at a clip, 35 within a week or so)about trading them in so quickly. I was just afraid I was gonna get stuck with a boxload of them and end up watching em collect dust, so I panicked and tried to unload them as fast I could.
Didn't know you could trade in HDMI cables
At gs? Apparently you cant. According to the gm at my local store there is a chainwide moratorium on accepting them currently.

So, do I have this right?

Show up to Best Buy with Portal 2 (ps3) and Fallout New Vegas (ps3). Customer service scans the games, gives them the once over, and I'll get the following values?

Portal 2: 23+30% = $29.9.
New Vegas: 13+30% = $16.9.

And that's it? No magic song and dance to get the 30% bump?

Bulletstorm dropped to 18, but considering I got a second copy absolutely free, 24 in BB credit is good deal.

Also still have a sealed copy of dead rising 2: bought it for 20, and BB TIV is 20. debating whether its even worth keeping haha
Yes, as long as the values hold you should get those amounts, its automatically adjusted
When I traded in my 2 coppies of Two worlds 2, they started to only give me a $60 giftcard instead of a $78 one, so YMMV and you may have to ask them if they don't add it.

Why would you have ever gotten $78 for TWII? The TIV wasn't $30 after the 30% bonus offer started.

he shouldn't have. just swindled the manager to override it.
he shouldn't have. just swindled the manager to override it.
I didn't swindle anyone lol. I simply said "is there a 30% trade in bonus on this?" and he said "I believe there is." and gave me the $78 gift card. I didn't know that I wasn't suppose to get it.

i revise my statement to "dumb manager gave it to him by mistake".

is Dealtree still doing BB's trade in? Why is it going to MN (home of BB) now? odd. Maybe BB wanted them to open up a closer office?

Anybody here have experience trading in 360s to BB? I want to get rid of my spare white PRO that has no HDD, but the estimator only includes one with a HDD. Would they subtract a certain amount or just not take it?

Also, I would also consider trading in my 250GB Slim, but keeping the HDD, and getting the matte 4GB Kinect bundle this weekend. I'm assuming they wouldn't even take it without a HDD? I'm wondering if most employees would even know to check to see if it's actually in there once the barcode has been scanned...

That still doesn't make sense. How did you get $30 base TIV? The TIV dropped 2-3 day after GS's B2G1 started, and the 30% extra TIV offer didn't start until the weekend after... -.-

Got $59 for MvC3 & Halo Reach; GREAT deal. I will def take advantage of that "preorder 5 games, get $100" deal as soon as I cancel my ones @ Gamestop.
It sure as hell beats trading online though. 15-30 minutes sounds better than 15-30 days to me. I just traded in-store for the first time a few days ago and while it definitely needs to be streamlined, it's not quite as bad as some people are making it out to be. Give them a couple more months and I'm sure it'll be just as quick as GameStops system, who they are obviously trying to compete with.
Dunno, it seemed fairly streamlined when it was at Customer Service. And atleast the employee's up there were nice and attentive.

Hunting down a Best Buy employee out on the store floor is like a giant game of Where's Waldo. (Especially considering they tend to be huddled up in little groups gossiping with each other, as if that was thier job)

On a side note, i miss that topic

Yeah in-store can be a bit and it has in my experience. But it does beat waiting 30 days, and you can get Amazon credit out of it which beats waiting for Amazon as well. If you couldnt get Amazon credit so easily then I probably wouldnt trade as much.
Yeah, that topic was pretty great. Time Paradox! I thought my computer was gonna blue screen on me after that happened.
Lol, screenshotted that for the memory. Then forgot to back it up during a system restore

I was so gonna try to make a Sig or something out of it xD

They're converting every store to a separate video game section. So theoretically it will become uber smooth.

I know i'm sick of deal with the customer service people where it's their first time doing a trade in.

Your store must be doing it wrong. I never check the manuals or cases b/c they are not needed for the trade in. The only time it takes me more than a few minutes to do a multi game trade is when there is no case w/ upc b/c then I have to search for "halo reach" and have it pull up about 10 different upcs for that game. Ugh.

Also, as of this time the only systems that can be taken in store is the Nintendo DS. So if you are asking if they'll take your Xbox and not check for the harddrive, the answer is no.

Has anyone had a problem with using a prepaid label with the items weighing more than the weight posted? I just went to print out a label and it is only for 1 pound. 6 games weigh more than 1 pound without any packaging.

UPs is never a problem. They'll just settle up later with BB.

So has anyone tried trading in multiple copies lately? I asked a few pages back, but no one answered me. I know the OP says you can trade up to three copies, but I remember reading someone say that they weren't letting you do that anymore.

I traded in 2 ps3 Black Ops and 1 xbox 360 Black Ops on wednesday. I didn't get any flak from the guy doing the trade in but the guy at the entrance who put the stickers on them was a smartass though.
(Which the guy had the nerve to ask me was mine fake)
I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but maybe not. Anyway, Missouri licenses don't have "issue dates" just expiration dates. Apparently the system asks for an issue date. The 2nd time I was doing a trade in the girl accused me of having a fake license because it didn't have an issue date. Yes, lady, I went and got a fake ID so I can trade in stolen games at BB for store credit 3 games at a time...

On topic, it seems strange that you are having the problem. The kiosk seems to make it take about half the time, especially because there is never anyone in the gaming sections I go to, whereas there are 100 mouth-breathers trying to return their 17 year old canon camera because they can't find kodak film for it anymore over at the customer service desk (not to mention that half the time you get the 50-year old lady that presumes all video games are stolen at the cust serv desk). Just varies place-to-place I guess.

Good to know. Much appreciated.

I'm on my way to BB with 2 ps3 DR2 and 2 xbox DR2. If I decide to do both at one BB, you can be sure I'll post about it if it fails (I'm complainy like that). So presume it's working if you don't hear from me.

This 30% bonus deal is going to be nice for some of my older games. I know getting $6.80 isn't much better than $5.00, but why not take advantage and it has gotten me to knock out some of my backlog this week. One more game to play through, than trade it all in tomorrow. And hopefully correct an error they made on something else last time as well. At first I was thinking of just using it all to finally pick up a Kinect next week, but between the descent trade in prices and the ability to swap it for Amazon cred if need be I'm thinking long term, new laptop instead...

Did my first game trades in today at BB... their TIV seemed to be a bit better than GS and Amazon. Also the 30% extra was a nice bonus....

Process for trade in was pretty slow but I think this was due to it being a very new process fro the employees. ALso their system didnt seem too user freindsly.

Associate didnt really do a hard check to see if the games did have a manual ( but the games i traded in were all complete) so yMMV on this part.

Once completed issued me a CG.. funny thing about the process, they asked me my nationality, asked for a drivers license and took a fingerprint scan.... alot of work just to do a trade in but the values were better so I didnt mind.

Probably going to try to trade nore gamnes whuile the 30% extra is still good.. Saw the Kindle amazon cards in the store so probably pick some up and get me some amazon credits which I know I will use...

Once again what they have you do is up to the Pawn Laws in your area.

All I had to do was show my ID and sign a paper that said I was relinquishing the rights to the games I was trading. This was back when Two Worlds II was a good flip from Gamestop with B2G1. Traded 3 copies of TWII and 3 Fable III's

I wish I could do in store trade ins but my BB only do trade ins with receipt D:
Just shipped off my BO copies (no cover art due to UPC locked in being the wrong one) so time to wait a month for my GC...
Hoping my other games from hastings show up tomorrow so I can trade them in quick. BB has to receive everything by next Saturday :|

You think they'll give you the GC if you have no cover art? They can be fussy about the GC's

Sent my GF to trade in Fear 3 & Dragon Aged 2 for me, i couldn't make it because of work. I was suppose to get $47 plus 40 percent bonus for pre-ordering rage, but when i looked at the receipt i only got $37.60 put toward the game. Sigh, hopefully i can go tomorrow and fix this.

I see that you are a 57 year old best buy manager. Please go work in a retirement home or something.

The process for those went ridiculously fast actually. I'm in love with the girl that did that trade in now.
